I think the foreigners make fun of us because they realize that they would get even more money from us if all the businesses wouldn't commit tax fraud and think they get us to pass a law this way, which would force everyone to use credit cards making tax fraud impossible.

oh brother...if only you knew how much money switches hands in this country without Papa Staat noticing. Restaurants, barber shops, construction workers...these guys live off undeclared revenue

hahahha youâre adorable, several of my colleagues created companies just to cheese the tax system a bit. as my grandfather always said one person will get cheated, make sure its not you.
whenever you tell a german i donât like cash they reply but then you canât âjust pay đâ someone.
Yes the state gets around 100 billion euros less do to tax fraud... This would literally fix most of our budget issues, but oh well the politicians don't care, so we cut social spending.
Do you even realize how insanely high the tax burden is in this country? Germany gets enough tax revenue, it just gets wasted by our politicians. We need competent elites and not more tax revenue. Switzerland manages with way lower tax rates and is a functioning country, stop spreading this bullshit of we just need more taxes to fix our problems
The tax for the richest in the country has steadily decreased while the tax burden for lower income families and the middle class has either stayed the same or even increased. It's a redistribution from the bottom to the top. You paying your barber in cash has no impact on the tax income. It's mostly rich people and companies that can even affort to pay experts that discover tax loop holes. Hell most of the time the same companies tasked with fixing loop holes actually work with cooperations to get around said tax rules. Also millionaires in Switzerland pay more taxes than in Germany....
German state wastes 50 billion on fake refugees every year, billions on foreign aid that achieves absolutely nothing, billions on random ngos that do nothing, finance gender studies and other woke bullshit, we have the second largest parliament in the world and pay insane sums for our politicians, we give 20 billion to the EU every year and get nearly nothing in return. BĂŒrgergeld even for people who refuse to work. We do not need more taxes, just stop wasting the money and we could actually lower taxes for the poor. But apparently my ideas are literally fascism and would destroy the democracy or something and therefore cannot be implemented
Wow so much uneducated bullshit in one post impressive.
- Germany spend 27 billion on refugees last year. This year it's 21 billion, next year probably around17 billion.
Where do you get the 50 billion from?
- Ukrainian refugees are fake? Ok is the Russian invasion an illusion or what?
- our foreign aid is mostly credit which we get back + interest (means we gain money from this)
- foreign aid is geopolitics, it it's like a bribe for access that German companies gain in those countries to resources or markets, or to have those countries hold back refugees coming to Europe.
- you complaining about us giving 20bil to the EU and getting nothing from it is the most stupid take you made. Like that is Brexit level of bullshit.
our companies get access to a market of 450million people. Literally 50% of our exports go to other EU countries.
We gain around 68 billion every year just from trade in the EU making, so it raises our per capita income alone by 1000âŹ
Our farmers get subsidies of 156 euros per Hektar
- 2.2million Jobs in Germany depend on EU trade
It is an undisputed fact that we gain the most from the EU even when we pay a big amount into it.
...
I have been in cities where a döner cost 5 euros and it came go ur door in under 30 minutes (ON AVERAGE)
The competitive price SHOULD bee around 10 to 12 Euros and by pure coincidence they never take card.
I'm confused. Why would I keep an expired credit card? And the second picture seems like pretty normal self-checkout except the signs are written in gibberish.
As a German my first reaction was: get a new card, yours is expired. And if you're already on it also check if your IDs are still valid and don't forget to make your taxes.
Come out Luigi, the Carabinieri are standing outside your house for buying the wrong brand of olive oil. You'll be shipped to the penal colony of Naples
Let me guess, it's a disgusting Maestro card? That's not a true debit card, you dumbass. Get a MasterCard or Visa debit card.
Also, a big part of our economy is still cash. Consumers may use cards in stores but ask a contractor if he prefers cash and he'll give you a 20% discount. Heck, I got my car at the Mercedes dealership 10% under the listing price because I paid in cash. Not sure what kind of creative accounting they used but it saved me 6k.
Actually no, if you use it wisely its a great tool. I use mine to get 0% installments. Lets say something costs 2k, if I buy it on credit i can pay in 12 monthly installments, and invest the money that would otherwise spent one off. So in a year I can get a 100 euro back from a 2k investment and minus 30 euro for the card subscription I will make a profit of 70 euro + the monthly payment convenience + credit card bonuses like miles.
This model only works if someone else is too stupid to game the system and pays for your bonuses through crippling debt. I feel like this could be a metaphor for something....
I think its up to the merchant and not depend so much on the bank/issuer. They (the merchant) will still pay a percentage to the bank/issuer, but they do it to boost sales. In some stores they offer a discount OR 0% installments but thats not the case everywhere. Its very common in Greece tho
Ah yes i know what you mean. There always such advertisements at electronics stores. I heard though that having many different credit cards/loans hurts your credit score.
You should pay all big things with your credit card. Most scam free way as it'd all insured.
You don't actually need to go into debt to use a credit card
Self-checkout is another way for the supermarkets to lower wage costs. If an employee there asks you "*Why don't you use self-checkout?*", your answer should be "*Because I don't work here*".
Went to Germany a while ago. Passed by an ATM because I wanted to buy some Kuchen at the Backerei. They asked me whether I could pay by card because they preferred that over cash.
WTF happened to you guys?
Huh? All grocery stores in my city either don't have self checkout or disabled them a few weeks after installation and I just spend a few days in Berlin and constantly had to get cash because places would not take card.
Nicht ĂŒberall - von 25+ Restaurants in der NĂ€he wo ich Wohne akzeptieren nur 2-3 Karten, bei den Rest hĂ€ngen laminierte Schilder "NO EC/NO CARD/CASH ONLY".

I dont know a single shop withlut self-checkout and our EC-Cards usually have an implemented Debitcard (at least where i live its common for every Sparkasse to do so). The only thing im confused about is why i should be confused
Come to Munich. I can only name two or three shops here that have self-checkout that aren't a Kaufland â and one of them I only discovered last week.
The cheaper supermarkets usually donât have self-check out. But the more âexpensiveâ ones like Rewe and Edeka usually have some of them. (But here it always depends on the owner of the store)

So my preconceptions could be out of date â I just think of Germany as decades behind already and I fail to acknowledge that it does move forward.
When I move to a different municipality (within my country), I can register myself there online.

Yes. (And especially for South Prussians, also because it's open past 8pm sometimes.) And it's not a railway station.
Although I guess it is overpriced like one, so that might make you feel at home.
Blow their minds, show them the 24h Tesco and ASDA superstores. Shopping at 3am is simply a must (even though our local Tesco now closes at midnight due to a string of robberies without police response, but that's just Britain in 2024)

Debit card > Credit card
I'm not German, but I'm confused. What's going on?
Germans don't like credit cards and therefore rarely have self-checkouts.
I do it constantly so I donât have to interact with people anymore.
You don't use debit cards either?
We do, but some shops want to avoid the card reader cost and some also avoid taxes by taking cash.
Why would you need a credit card for self checkout? Do you not have regular bank/pin cards?
We do have them and we do have self checkouts but its less common because we don't trust the Je... Banks, I meant banks
We use debit cards, but prefer cash. Well, actually the shops prefer cash because they can avoid fees .... and taxes.
you can also pay with cash at the Rewe near me for self checkout
We have self-checkouts where you can also pay cash.

I donât get it. Because itâs open on Sunday?
Yes. (And especially for South Prussians, also because it's open past 8pm sometimes.) And it's not a railway station. Although I guess it is overpriced like one, so that might make you feel at home.
