Oh dear… an intact male is going to inevitably spray, I’m sorry you didn’t realize that when you adopted him. Part of good pet ownership is being in a financial position to care for them. Get him neutered ASAP and invest in a good enzyme cleaner. Because of the spraying, he will continue to pee inappropriately if he can smell it.

VeilSanctum

It will help but he will not stop until HE can no longer smell his own urine - they like to re-cover old spots they've peed on or sprayed. Even if you can't smell it, he probably still can. Walk around in the dark with a UV flashlight (cheap on Amazon). Where he sprayed will light up green. Scrub those spots with an enzyme cleaner. I have gotten some at Walmart before for about $5. Good luck.

thank you, I'll try that!

I got my cat spayed, vaccinated, dewormed all for 75$. Just a spay would have been 50$. Call around for local shelters/humane society services

Snip the boy dude

It is said to stop that issue. And I have seen many shelters all over the US that offer very deeply discounted spaying and neutering. It really helps them immensely when, later, they do not have to deal with the larger wave of discarded kittens. I know you might not be in the States so I guess you could ask the local animal shelters or a local vet who might be willing to offer you a deal on neutering him. Good luck, OP.

Look into low cost neutering in your area. In the US there are many places that make this affordable. Call the local animal shelter and inquire about programs.

I know there is an organization in my area that does deeply reduced spay/neuter. For getting my male kitten neutered, optional pain meds, and a microchip, it's only 70 bucks. That's a pretty good bargain since i live in Dallas. I'd look into something like this in your own area. Male cats when they aren't neutered generally cause more havoc, are more aggressive, pee and spray everywhere, and if they smell even a whiff of a female cat in heat they will wander around caterwauling because they're horny, and let me tell you it's seriously annoying. Neutered/spayed cats also live longer and have less health issues.

Additional_Button582

It'll definitely help! Although fair warning, it will take a few months for his pee to stop smelling so strong. The strong smell is caused by his hormones and that takes a long time to settle out, even after the snip

Bunny7781mom

Ask animal shelters in the area if they know where you can get low cost spay/neutering done. I bet they have suggestions.

Resident_Bitch

There's a good chance neutering will stop the spraying, but there's no guarantee especially now that it's become an established behavior for him. Plenty of neutered male cats still spray. That said, you absolutely need to get it done.
