Some people will cut a new square out of one of the machine air filters and push that in there

HaasonHeist

That's what I do But my leak rate started getting much higher when I started making my own and it's a lot louder now too. We shouldn't have to do this lol. Hoping maybe there's a better mask for me out there somewhere

soupquarter

I don't know if there is a way to tell if it is mold or not just from looking at it... If you are getting that in the filter that could be a good thing since it is filtering it out from you breathing it in. Is there anything in your environment that could be creating more dust or mold recently?

HaasonHeist

It's ok the inside of the mask so definitely breathing it in, not sure if it's from the air or growing in the mask Apartment has dust but nothing crazy. Pretty clean space as far as I know. I do smell the attic some hot days (I'm in a finished attic apartment) so I'm not sure if maybe I have bad air quality in here maybe

soupquarter

Huh... is there a way to get an inspection for mold just to rule it out? That can be really dangerous in some cases so it might be good to check...

NativTexan

Mine does this, it’s a thing that happens. I don’t believe it’s mold as mold is not perfectly round. I always take that part out before I wash so it’s not because I got it wet. I don’t think it’s from the machine either as my filter stays clean and is replaced regularly no matter how it looks. It’s coming from us but what it is exactly damn if I know. Maybe dead skin cells?

mec915

I take the filter piece out before washing the nasal piece. Just use a CPAP wipe on the filter piece. Wet=mold

HaasonHeist

I do always take it out in the morning to dry, I think it must be happening while I'm sleeping. I'm picking up an air purifier put near my bed hoping that it helps. It's possible my air quality isn't very good

macallister10poot

Mine always looks like this and I constantly have to cut little filter pieces from the filter for the CPAP like every 2 weeks, it’s so annoying

bananaonacamera

I use the official ResMed cpap filters. Those seem to have almost identical fibers to the one in that piece. The off brand filters look different

Ill-Bicycle701

Use a new mask?

Ill-Bicycle701

Or just replace the cushion. That should be swapped every 2-4 weeks. Replace the mask frame every few months. But the cushions are absolutely a consumable.

HaasonHeist

Any recommendations? I had to replace my filter within a couple months and the performance has suffered ever since. Is there a mask you'd recommend that doesn't have one of these filters?

Ill-Bicycle701

Keep the same model, just use a new mask. The lifespan on them isn’t meant to be indefinite.

HaasonHeist

Although true, I was expecting more than a month or twoout of it before I got black dots. Especially for the price. Will be buying from online from now on due to lower cost but still, disappointed in that little filter

Legalshot

The mask cushion itself is only designed for two weeks of use. At a month you’ve already doubled the recommended usage.

Relative_Humor_8889

Are they really meant to be replaced every two weeks? That seems excessive.

Legalshot

According to the Resmed support page for the P30i... yeah. [https://www.resmed.com/en-us/sleep-apnea/cpap-parts-support/sleep-apnea-full-products-list/cpap-masks/airfit-p30i/#support](https://www.resmed.com/en-us/sleep-apnea/cpap-parts-support/sleep-apnea-full-products-list/cpap-masks/airfit-p30i/#support)

Relative_Humor_8889

Hmmmm I wonder if that’s based on anything other than financial reasons.

aircooledJenkins

It's not. Replace when they are too dirty to clean, break/tear, or fail to seal well. Anything sooner than that and you're throwing money away.

Affectionate_Bid5042

I wear a DreamWear under the nose mask with a nasal cushion- it doesn't have anything like this.

HaasonHeist

Interesting, I'll look into it
