I second this strongly. Sitting at the bar is fun, sometimes you sushi chef will throw in some freebies from the other things they're making. The house sake is also a good price for the quality, in my opinion
I've been to Sakura once about 6 months after they opened. It had great reviews and was close to my house, so I was excited to try it. I decided to start with teriyaki. I ordered it online and went to pick it up. When I arrived there were a few cats by the front door, but the place was packed. I went in and got my food immediately and headed home. After a few bites I noticed something in my food...CAT HAIR! Needless to say, I didn't give it another try, but many others have said it was great. My go to for sushi is also Sushi Sumo!
My wife is Japanese, Here is our short list for northern DE.
**All you can eat:** Sakura Midway Shopping Center
**Casual Sit Down**
Sakura in Elsmere
Kyoto in Pike Creek
**Upscale**
Mikimotos - Wilmington
Takumi - North Wilmington
**High end**
Morimoto in Phily
Takumi for me is some of the most unimpressive sushi I’ve had. It’s not cheap at all and doesn’t taste fresh or flavorful. Have tried it multiple times and it’s never been good. I’d rather eat the stuff from Sprouts.
Wife and I are eating a lot of sushi and we frequently go to Kyoto. Could I ask you two to try Ichiban on kirkwood highway and report back? … it’s half price on Sundays and we love it there. We will be trying Sakura in elsmere since you mentioned it.
We go at least 1-2 Sundays a month it’s like 35$ for 6 rolls which would normally be like 60-70 And the last two times we went I tipped the sushi bar guys as soon as we sat down and they hooked us up with some free sushi and or sashimi

People sleep on this place but dude was legit a top sushi chef for 10 years before he opened that place. Super nice too. My go to is the Frank's roll. Absolutely nothing like it.
Masamoto, just over the PA line on 202. He used to be the sushi chef at Jasmine when it opened many years ago. Excellent food, my favorite item is the Hamachi kama app. Broiled yellowtail shoulder; crispy salty skin, deliciously rich dark meat with perfectly cooked light meat, extra flavorful due to the bone-in preparation. Order it as soon as you get there, it is worth the 30 minute prep time.
Sushi prices have stayed the same. Maybe a dollar or two higher. But the all you can eat has gone up about $10. It’s closer to $37 now per person however as always you still get to order from the whole menu. It is still my top pick for sushi.
I used to be all about Sushi Sumo too, but just further down the road in the shopping center next to the car wash is a Sakura Sushi. It's all you can eat that they make by the order, and you can get speciality rolls there for $15 total that at Sushi Sumo would cost $80 total.
The new Ichiban farther down Kirkwood is really good. Sushi always tastes really good, and the rice isn't overpacked. Probably only 5ish minutes from Sushi Sumo, but better in my opinion.
Omka is also good, for an option closer to Wilmington. It's in spitting distance of Charter/Cab
Yukon in Dover is one of the hidden gems. Genuinely have been to sushi places all over the place, and it’s in my top 3 sushi places ever. It’s that good. Supremely overlooked. Edit: just realized you said Wilmington area sorry. My comment still stands though. Yukon is top notch.
My wife and I had our first date at Sushi Sumo on Kirkwood Highway 8 years ago, they're still in business, and the quality has been consistent throughout the years.
Second to Asian house! I left delaware a while ago so I wasn’t sure if that place still existed… but that place is incredible. The owner lady is so sweet 🥺
Lived in Japan for 10 years - I know it's a hike but Cocolo in Bethany is some of the most authentic sushi I've had in DE. Run by an adorable Japanese couple, too.
Our favorite is Sakura in Elsmere.
Yes this is the answer, not the place with the same name near Crossroads.
The lunch specials are outstanding.

This is the correct answer
Their bento boxes are a great lunch option.
They have a roll that they light on fire upon delivering it to you. It's amazing.
Sushi Xtreme in Pike Creek is sooo good.
I too like to eat my body weight in sushi.
Dude when they first opened and it was like $22.50 all-you-can-eat... I thought I injured my stomach I ate so much
I really recommend this place! We like it so much we drive over an hour to get there!
They have really good sushi too. A lot of ayce don't, but they have 3 rolls that are just my favorite.
I haven't been in a while because of poor service the last time we went. However, really like that they offer hand rolls, like a sushi cone.
Sushi yama in middletown is awesome but it may be a drive from wilm
Nasi in Bear.
I second this Nasi Malay on route 40!!!!

It used to be really good. I don't know what happened but I don't eat there anymore. Also Mikimotos has always been way over rated.
Wife and I are eating a lot of sushi and we frequently go to Kyoto. Could I ask you two to try Ichiban on kirkwood highway and report back? … it’s half price on Sundays and we love it there. We will be trying Sakura in elsmere since you mentioned it.
I've been wanting to try Ichiban, saw that they have AYCE Monday-Friday.

Tokyo express in harmony plaza
People sleep on this place but dude was legit a top sushi chef for 10 years before he opened that place. Super nice too. My go to is the Frank's roll. Absolutely nothing like it.
Jasmine's on 202- don't sleep on it.
Our favorite also. The hairy Mexican is delicious

This is our main place as well. Also it's BYOB.
I was so excited thinking about the food that I forgot that important tidbit.
One of my favorites is Le Shio on 202.
I used to work across the street from that place. Their lunch specials are one of the best deals around.
I can get two or three sushi rolls for around $25 and it’s fresh. So good.
Shocked no one has said Asian House in Beaver Brook. That place is incredible!
I scrolled down waaaaaaaay too far for this. It’s amazing and if they have their sit down buffet still: brilliant.
They do! Of course the price has gone way up. However it’s still the same incredible food!
What’s the price these days?
Sushi prices have stayed the same. Maybe a dollar or two higher. But the all you can eat has gone up about $10. It’s closer to $37 now per person however as always you still get to order from the whole menu. It is still my top pick for sushi.
Hidden gem!
We love Okura in Hockessin. The sushi roller is great. Sit at the sushi bar and chat. Always a delight. And the food is delicious!
Cultured pearl in Rehoboth would be worth the drive once it warms up, sit outside
Cultured Pearl is awesome.
I just tried No. 1 Sushi the other day and it was good. I think they just opened, on concord pike in the Giant plaza
Seconding No. 1 sushi on concord pike. It’s in the shopping center with Planet Fitness.
Third(ing?) No. 1 Sushi. I've been there twice since opening, and the sushi chefs waved and said hello as they recognized me on my second visit.
Nasi in fox run shopping center!!
Pinang is my favorite, it’s in Newark on Paper mill Road.
Love Pinang!
I used to be all about Sushi Sumo too, but just further down the road in the shopping center next to the car wash is a Sakura Sushi. It's all you can eat that they make by the order, and you can get speciality rolls there for $15 total that at Sushi Sumo would cost $80 total.
Mikimotos can be on the pricier side but the sushi is good and the place is vibey.
If you’re ever by the Christiana hospital Tokyo Express has the cheapest sushi prices I’ve ever seen and it’s enjoyable

Rice on Limestone road. Maybe a little pricey, but they make consistently good sushi. The people are nice and the restaurant is always clean.
Sake Hana in Avondale, PA. Not far from Hockessin
My wife and I had our first date at Sushi Sumo on Kirkwood Highway 8 years ago, they're still in business, and the quality has been consistent throughout the years.
Okura in Hockessin 1000000%
Johnnys Sushi in Perryville, MD!
Johnny's is good, but it's looking a little ratty these days and no longer has table service.
Mayflower in Newark was my go-to for years
I am in Newark and need a good all you can eat sushi! We have plenty of them in Florida.
Definitely sushi Xtreme in Pike Creek.
I think Ichiban on Kirkwood has an all-you-can-eat
Sushi Yama in Middletown.
Masimotos is really good. It right by Whole Foods, just a couple miles or so into PA.
Second to Asian house! I left delaware a while ago so I wasn’t sure if that place still existed… but that place is incredible. The owner lady is so sweet 🥺
Our favorite is Sushi Sumo on Kirkwood Highway. That's our go to, but we also really like Chiwa Bistro at the Christiana Mall!
Chiwa bistro definitely has some of the best sushi and more, they also have some of the best ramen too!
Lived in Japan for 10 years - I know it's a hike but Cocolo in Bethany is some of the most authentic sushi I've had in DE. Run by an adorable Japanese couple, too.
Kyoto in pike creek is legit
Kiku in Middletown is good, imo
