Ah. For a moment I thought this was an advertisement for the hobby store, and was very confused why it wouldn’t include an address. Cool drone footage.

ghostfaceschiller

No it appears to be an advertisement for parking

BtyMark

Whoa. That’s a lot.

SmoothOperator47

People's Plaza right? I thought it's always been there.

TopDownDrones

Yes, Peoples Plaza.  They moved across the shopping center to a larger space.

methodwriter85

Good ol People's Plaza. Glasgow's unofficial downtown.

chubbubus

RIP Adrenaline skate shop...

MeGussuGeM

People’s Plaza?

TheShittyBeatles

Big space. Used to be Wrangler outlet or something? I haven't been around there for a long while.

Forthfarter

Was rugged warehouse around 2012. Not sure before that.

TheAmFreed

Definitely still rugged warehouse in the early 2000's - would scare my mom by hiding in the clothes racks

Sadelf9

Yea it was rugged warehouse in the late 90s/ early 2000s too, i miss it rugged :(

themilkmanismyfather

Is there a track here also? Is it bigger now?

Ok-Interaction1474

Yes it’s Peoples Plaza. The store is about 3x larger than the original. The track is now 98x50 and it will have a permanent drift track that should be started on soon.

StraightUpB

It would be so cool if this state was like 90% less parking lots

methodwriter85

Oh, that's never going to happen. LOL

norweeg

How would you propose we get anywhere in the state or the country rn? Public transit is not a realistic option

StraightUpB

I think we should do what every other developed country does and shift money away from the money pit that is lane-widening and start truly investing in trains and buses. Most of Delaware is a miserable place to be because it’s just suburban sprawl and decay

norweeg

I have several thoughts: 1. Most of Delaware is, in fact, rural. Only New Castle County is mostly suburban 2. Good luck trying to acquire the land for building railroads and stations anywhere in NCC! You would have to eminent domain literally all of it and no one is going to want the noise of trains in their neighborhood. It would be political suicide to even try it. You would also have to build so much of it to make it worthwhile that damn near every neighborhood in the county would have train tracks running through it. 3. A lot of developed countries have geography that lends itself well to rail lines. They tend to be much smaller than the United States, more centralized in population to a handful of urban areas, that because the country is smaller, are closer together. They also happen to develop around railway that already existed or simply the absence of the automobile (while we were busy becoming more and more car-based, they were busy being destroyed by world wars and communist revolutions or just urbanized much later in the 20th century). They did not have to retrofit it physically or culturally. Trying to retrofit it in the United States is the biggest roadblock to making it happen at all. All these factors are able to help rail travel reach a critical mass where enough people are writing them and the trains are reliable enough, that one can actually get around reasonably well on them. Them. The United States on the other hand, has a lot of empty space to traverse, cities are far apart, population is a little more spread around, and it's harder to get railways close to some of the less centralized population centers to reach a critical mass where people will actually use it and appreciate it. Please note that I absolutely support the idea of it, but I don't think it is a realistic expectation that we will ever see it. I would be thankful if we could just get a national system that linked major cities together as an alternative to air travel. That might actually be feasible, mostly because it would be traversing mostly empty, rural space between cities, but we won't even pay to maintain what we have, so I won't hold my breath. 4. If you're miserable in Delaware, why do you live here? I mostly like living here. Sure, traffic is bad sometimes but I also grew up here. I know when and where to expect traffic and how to avoid it.

MontrealUrbanist

Most of Delaware's *land* is rural, yes, but most of Delaware's *people* live in urban or suburban areas. In fact, Delaware is the 6th most densely populated state. It may not be realistic to provide transit to every corner of Delaware, agreed, but it is possible to make a big impact by starting in the cities, where most people live, and gradually expanding from there.

norweeg

I'm gonna guess you're not from around here and don't realize what passes as a "city" around here i.e. incorporated suburbia except for the downtown Wilmington area

Zescapespj

Isn't that where it was before?

Zescapespj

I guess not now that I look closer, but same shopping center?

TopDownDrones

Same shopping center, but they're on the opposite side.  The new space is bigger.

HueHunna

Got any footage of the worksite for the new Hodgson Vo Tech?

ghostfaceschiller

Look at what we’ve done to our country

pancakefactory9

Kind of reminds me of Mitchells in Wilmington. Bummer that they closed.

may_be_indecisive

Yikes that’s a lot of parking!

ddarko96

absolute waste of land, terrible design

Laxzilla24

Bring back Rugged Warehouse

Truck3R_Dude

Side note, that Safeway is gross

TrinityCindy

I’m new to the area, tell me what’s wrong with the store.

DEDang1234

I'm curious as well... at least the entrance doesn't always stink like the Four Seasons Shoprite.

runitbyrute

Nothing they just moved from the other side of the shopping center. To have more room I believe.

TrinityCindy

I mean Safeway

runitbyrute

Oh I couldn’t tell you. I don’t shop there. I only come here for FSH.
