If y’all ever wanted to know why our furniture is like this, it comes from a style called Louis Farouk. A play on the names of the French kings and our last one. The upper classes of Egypt were obsessed with emulating the furniture style of French nobility especially of Versailles.
Up to very recently this type of furnishing style was considered of “making it” in our society. And I ain’t going to lie, but my house is fashioned in a “modern” way but I couldn’t help myself for having a salon in the classical way lol
I feel like my generation (millennials and gen Z) want to stay far away from that because it seems old! But maybe that’s just my experience in Tagamma/Heliopolis 🤷🏽
Can you blame them? They're extremely uncomfortable, sometimes they can be tacky looking if painted with gold to show off your status, and some items are completely pointless such as the dining closet/neesh. And woe unto you if you spilled something onto it and got an ass beating for it. Lol
Honestly I am as anti established Egyptian opinion as it gets, but a lot of our traditions are in fact very classy. These wood furnishings are incredible, we took mobilia from the best (Italians) and I am sad that I sold out abroad and can only afford IKEA.
Yes! It just feels like it’s built sturdier! But no worries, it’s not cheap and most of mine was just handed down. IKEA is great to get started or on a budget!
Honestly if our ports and military were not corrupt thieves there would be huge money exporting these things to Europe. Fill me a warehouse here in England and I can treble your money and keep extra profit for myself. Every tradesman in Damietta has a workshop covered in gold dust!
Unfortunately, this type of furniture has gone out of style in the west. The trendsetter designers in Europe right now are on their nth iteration of neo-postmodern architecture and avant-garde anti-furniture decor and this type of stuff will feel foreign to them now.

seems pretty neat to me, only thing i would change is the chair because after a while not only will it hurt your ass and give you back pain, the chair itself will start having issues.

Wait when did this stop being the case? Alexandrians love furnishing their home with the stuff.

There is a market for it, the fact you can't find it is good because it shows the demand is unmet.
Looks like a joke to me
