Based on the build I've got there isn't a whole lot to go off of, however I can tell you a few pointers that leads us to believe it COULD be open world:
\- Project Rene utilizes asset streaming and LODs to keep everything running smoothly. Seriously, this thing runs at \~30fps on my galaxy s9. This tells us at the very least performance is rock solid even when fully zoomed out.
\- There is no "travel" UI icon anywhere in the game files (or anything like it).
\- No string references found for "travelling" to other lots or locations.
Do keep in mind that this build is over a year old and things could have changed from then and now, however we strongly believe this will be an open world game much like TS3 was.
The playtest build is SUPER early in development and contains only the build/buy modes. You can pick from 4 different apartments. 3 of them are fully furnished and one of them is empty. The playtest focuses on the extensive customization system. You are able to freely build whatever you want but there’s no live mode. You can’t really “play it” but it’s just more of a tech demo of the building functionality. I could upload a video if you’d be interested in that?

it seems like Sims 4 mods *just* started reaching new levels of complexity, it might not be worth it to switch the Sims 5 for a while (unless the base game is super good which i highly doubt)
Modding is everything. I've played since Sims 1. I will not play Sims 5 if modding isn't an option, it's such a hugely important part of the game.
You are spot-on, they'd be very dumb not to include it. I've known people who bought gaming pc's just because they couldn't use mods in the Sims on console.

They’re completely revamping building and pathing. So sims can maneuver around like people so everything doesn’t have to be grid like. Also co op building which is really neat.
I just hope it's playable solo. I can't imagine a Sims game being good being only online and having to be connected constantly. That's what killed SimCity
I don't think they've made a distinction yet if it'll be only multiplayer only or solo. I'd hope they'd not abandon their single player fan base but it's EA, you can never be too sure. I'm fairly confident single player will still be there but there's always the off chance that they see a live service as only multiplayer and ruin it for those of us who just want to play by ourselves

Why do people think Paralives will have a chance against AAA Sims? Inzoi and Life by You have a much higher chance because they actually are showing more progress than Paralives have in the past 3 years.
I think the people who bring up paralives just don't know about Life by You or InZoi. I think what usually is the case is that they heard about paralives and didn't look into any other upcoming life sim competitors.
Since I don't think this was posted here before, there is some semblance of a chance that Project Rene is a spin-off and not The Sims 5. Maxis also has something called Project Dolores in the works right now, which was first mentioned in [a February job listing](https://ea.gr8people.com/jobs/182699/technical-director?locale=en).
Granted, that ad also lists cross-platform and mobile development experience as a plus, so maybe whatever Dolores is also ends up being available on everything from mobile and PC to consoles like Rene is confirmed to be.
I've been a fan of the series since the launch of TS1 and I completely gave up on the franchise once it became obvious that EA was just leaning into the growing demographic of whales that will spend $40 on literally every piece of DLC as long as it gives them one or two extra additions to Create-A-Sim mode
The amount of consistent Sims players who don't even play the actual game is staggering

Yeah it's a bit insane to me how some people are excited to see that it's a permanent map. That's old tech. There's really nothing exciting there. At best, it's just reasons to not completely lose interest yet...
If I'll start playing The Sims 5 they'll end up pushing me somehow to spend 20,000$ on it (their greediness has no limits, you can see it from one game to the next), and on top of that, everything I'll buy that will be working OK in the beginning will stop working after a few months due to an update that brakes it and they'll never fix it be ause they made the initial sales, so it's not worth their trouble, but of course they won't refund me.
I'm waiting for the competitors this time, and thankfully it looks like there will be a few competitors.
The photos look pretty similar to sims 4 so I’m definitely not going to get my hopes up lol Unless they have a different team working on this than sims 4 I’m really not interested in what they have to offer haha

multiplayer on console was one of the best features and its a travesty it never came to pc, so i would love if this had it.

As of right now, we don't even know if there will *be* lots. All we've seen so far is apartment interiors.
tbf, most of the previous entries had apartments, albeit through expacs. could just be a base game house type now.
keep in mind it also coming to mobile and will be crossplay with PC. so don't expect much lol
