I’m so sorry you’ve been through so much. Trauma and physical health issues are very very closely linked. The body keeps score is a great book about this. If you have access to it, I’d find a really good trauma informed therapist the help process a lot of this. Our body holds on to trauma and it presents as very real and serious physical issues. I’m dealing with similar things and it feels like a never ending revolving door that you can’t get out of. 😞Along with addressing trauma, I also started doing some brain retraining program to try and rewire some thought patterns (neuroplasticity approach). It seems to help some. If you can, these may be some things to try ❤️

Thank you so much. This comment alone makes me feel like I’m not alone, to the point that it has brought me to tears. I’m so sorry things haven’t been easy for you either. That’s something I think I’ve been slowly realizing. All the pain and hurt I ignored has always been here. And i have finally reached my threshold. I will try the things you’ve suggested (first time hearing another them) and see if they can also help me if even just a little. Thank you so much for your kindness 💕

Just take it one day at a time! It’s a very long and difficult journey, but many have proven to me that healing is possible. You may enjoy Dr. Jessica Taylor. She has some books and is very trauma informed and has been very helpful for me. Be gentle and patient and kind with yourself ❤️

Keep your head up! I pray we all get through this one day.

You are definitely not alone! The gut is very much related to our emotional/mental/brain. I agree with the comment above regarding trauma informed therapist. If it’s outside of your financial means you may be able to find one that accepts payment on a sliding scale via Open Path Collective (that’s what I did and it’s helped me a lot). Additionally there are a lot of books and resources that talk about this, let me know if you want some rec’s. Gastritis can be so stressful and stress mgmt is really important to recovery, but please be so so gentle with yourself. Just one tiny step at a time. Like sometimes when I just need comfort bc I feel like garbage, it’s a warm bath or watching a 90s romcom with a weighted blanket. Have they checked you for h pylori or prescribed any other meds for gastritis?

It sounds like your entire nervous system is dis regulated, both with the initial acute stress and ongoing. Have you tried meditation/breathing? Insight timer app is free and lots of good ones there depending on your preferences, Nerva app is specific to gastro issues and they have a free trial, juliamccabe.com has an online studio with 30min guided pranayama (breathing) that are uploaded daily. You have to pay but it is in CAD so if you are in the US it is relatively inexpensive. Honestly these modalities have the biggest bang for you buck but I understand can be hard to stick to at times (I also have adhd so anything that is the least bit boring is hard for me to do routinely). If you haven’t tried any of these technique seriously commit to just a week and see how you feel!

You are going to get better very soon❤️‍🩹..Just hold on to your medicines prescribed by your Doctor and you’ll surely get better..

I too have been struggling mentally the worse I have in a long time I feel like. It’s like my entire nervous system is very sensitive to stressers like you mentioned. I’ve been wondering what steps do I need to take to get better cause gastritis has caused me so much anxiety/depression it’s crazy. I feel like I’ll never be back to normal at this point. You aren’t alone.

I feel you, you re truly not alone!! Today i had my first panick attack daytime ( it only happened at nighttime-waking up and was afraid of i will die in minutes all the time), i think it really makes me sad and devastated too some time, when you not drinking alchohol any more, barely drink anything else than water and almond milk, sometimes a but matcha, on a very strict diet, meditate daily, when feel anxious do some breathwork and STILL my stomach hurts and feel like shit.. sometimes for some hours or half a day i feel happy and dont really feel the pain and discomfort and it comes back every fckin day for me.  Maybe drink a chamomille tea to calm your mind and try to focus on something else, something positive, a good book maybe if you have a bit of free time,  or something why you should not keep up and be grateful for. I think it would help if we could be more positive and focus on something else rather then our health (anxiety), but its so so hard when you have such pain and feel sick and anxious most of the time. 🤍

Sounds like the Amitriptyline isn't working well enough. You may need to try different meds until you find one that does. Anxiety is a HUGE contributor to gastritis. I would talk to a psychiatrist. You can even find them online these days.

nanoH2O

What was the dose they gave you? The dose that is most often given for Amitriptyline for stomach issues is way lower than what is given for depression. However it isn’t really even used that often for depression anymore as there are better options nowadays. I would act fast and try to talk to someone about getting on a REAL anxiety/depression med like lexapro.

You are not alone. I have chronic gastritis since July 2020 till date. I had 3 endoscopy test of upper GI and one colon endoscopy for the past 3yrs. On the 8th March 2024, I went for an endoscopy test and was diagnosed the same chronic gastritis and acid reflux. In fact, life has been so terrible don't no what to eat my triggers has been severe burning sensations allover my body severe backache and lower back pain. I have lost weight drastically.. I am 40yrs but I look 70yrs with wrinkles, soft skin like an old lady. I look terrible. My Dr has changed different type of ppls from Omeprazole, limzer, nexium 20mg and 40mg all to nothing. My colleagues can't even recognize me. Hmmmm just don't know what do any more. I hate myself especially my skin. Has anyone experience what am going through? Please, say something.
