Did you take any medication? If so, are you still on it?

Potential-Lie2706

40mg esomeprazol. Been in it for 20 years

lupitagarlands

Hi, can i ask why were you put on esomeprazol in the first place 20 years ago?

Potential-Lie2706

Sure - I was eating steak or chicken - and it got stuck in my throat. I had to go have an emergency endoscopy. My follow up endoscopy indicated GERD and gastritis and actually eosinophillic esophagitis. I only had that show up one. I’m the next several years I would stop taking the ppi. Food would get stuck and I would have to get it removed or it would get stuck at home and I would have to yak it up. The GI doc said I would run a risk of an esophagus rupture if I kept doing that. He said I needed to stay on the meds.

lupitagarlands

Thank you for your reply. It’s interesting to know that someone can get gastritis while already using PPIs long term. Any side effects, deficiencies etc? My GI also said he has been using it for 20 years with no side effects, as a response to my worries.

Sjrla

Don’t get stomach cancer taking it that long. I know someone that did

So your gastritis is gone but you still have symptoms? Are you able to tolerate any types of foods?

Potential-Lie2706

I was eating anything-. Like I said my EGD was clear. Just a little redness. Biopsies all good. My symptoms are -in my mind- something else. The doctor put me on Pamelor after the clear endoscopy. Said I have a sensitive GI system. I think I have something else going on. I have another appointment in June.

I feel like a lot of my symptoms are in my mind too. I hear nerves in your stomach can get damaged or misfire? Idk. But alll that showed up in my gut was a little red spot when I got an endoscopy done. Have you tried any medicine like Amitriptyline or an antidepressants in general?

tinytempo

Same. Supposedly my endoscopy doesn’t show gastritis anymore, yet I still have abdominal pain on a daily basis

Potential-Lie2706

Any idea from you or the docs why ? I’m getting this investigated as we speak

tinytempo

Zero idea. All I know is that there’s some connection to consuming fat. It all began when I was taking NSAIDs but if I’m honest I’d felt some aches even before then. Taking ibuprofen seemed to bring things to ahead. And since then, despite a clean diet, PPIs, I just can’t seem to get back to normal…

Different_Mirror_763

did you have burning im stomach?

Potential-Lie2706

It felt like my inside was sunburned

Different_Mirror_763

for how long?

Potential-Lie2706

Months

Different_Mirror_763

same having this burning pain since june 2023 comes and goes.

Potential-Lie2706

What’s the endoscopy show ?

Different_Mirror_763

never had one that's why I'm scared... could be cancer or something

Potential-Lie2706

I don’t know your age and risk factors - get a scope though. Get to a doc to get you into a GI doc. If you are the US most GI docs have got there procedures down to a well oiled machine. Put you out - awake in 30-45 minutes and they give you the results right then.

Different_Mirror_763

I'm 25m no family history, It's extremely expensive where i live that's why, I'll have one though soon,I need answers.
