This reminds me of movies where the main character gets fucked up, and then goes on stage to do karaoke and is absolutely killing it. But then the movie pans out to real life and they're just screeching incoherently
I smoke everyday so playing guitar is just another daily thing I do stoned lol
Drinking is another story tho… anytime I have a few beers then pickup my guitar I’m just not in the zone at all. I have no clue how bands like Metallica could chug beers and kill it on stage like that back in the day lol
Because they chugged beers all day...that was their baseline.
Think about how hammered Dime was with Pantera, but he killed it night after night.
I smoke every day as well, so it's my baseline. But after too many dad sodas, I start dropping my pick and getting too sloppy.
Eh, it's a little of both. Being under an influence can influence your own experience, which comes through in your confidence and playing. I mean, you're hard pressed to find a musician who wasn't on some sort of substance at one point. However, that does not automatically mean being under an influence= good playing. It's a fine line
Ever wondered what "Kraut" they put in Krautrock? (edit: Kraut is also german for herb)
Enjoy your voyages and consume responsibly.
Drugs won't get you anywhere, but they certainly are the more scenic route.
When I play high I feel like the freaking Wizard of Fripp. When I listen back to what I did, it very rarely makes the cut.
Doesn’t mean I don’t do it though! Once or twice it’s been a genuine spiritual experience.
Next time record and find out. Like nuking aliens from space, it's the only way to be sure. Not a good crutch to have though, I've been in a band where practice could only begin after the weed situation was sorted, good band I thought, we never got anywhere, hmm. YMMV.
Great for getting into a flow state(writing/creating/soloing). Won’t make you a better player though. Only practice and playing around people better than you will do that.
Me + acoustic guitar (or my new revststar played and recorded sans amplifier) + any narcotic = musical heaven.
Me + things I recorded while high + sober clarity = second hand embarrassment (and the occasional breakthrough)
Since it appears that several people didn't bother to read the actual question. I will clarify that I am asking about your experiences with THC and guitar playing. Thanks to all of you who were actually trying to be helpful!
Someone tell this kid about the 60s. Yes, it's a thing.
They don’t call it jazz cabbage for no reason.

That’s what alcohol does to you. Weed absolutely does not an if you think it does then you weren’t smoking the Devils Lettuce.
I only smoke the Devils PCP
For another perspective, record in that situation. Listen back when unaffected.
Write stoned, record sober
No, no one has ever smoked pot and played guitar.
Music + THC is a well-documented symbiotic relationship
Parasitic
Parasitic would imply that one couldn't survive without the other - hardly the case
No. You've discovered a brand new thing here.
No one has ever done drugs and played music before, no.

Drugs and rock n roll? Never heard of such a thing
Do you think the beatles went from simple pop songs to.. what they did after without THC?
Next time record yourself. Play it back sober. That's the reality

THC and any kind of activity is a thing. Jiu jitsu, running, guitar, checkers, grilling, you name it!
It’s certainly a thing. For another perspective, record in that situation. Listen back when unaffected.
Where does one even begin.....
So... record what you're doing, then listen to it when sober and find out how good it really was......
In the history of music at no time has anyone been under the effects of drugs
Just wait till you try LSD and play
Everytime its like "I HAVE IT, I FINALLY UNDERSTAND MUSIC AND LIFE" \*Playing scales to a backing track\*
I got high and recorded the most amazing sounding shit I've ever played...then listened to it sober. Yikes.

Doesn't work for me. I just want to lay on the bed or on the grass when I smoke.
This is my usual experience, but was a bit more motivated today...
Yes.
Please google “the Grateful Dead”
More like playing guitar makes my Mary Jane extra stoney! Someone should get Sleep to give their opinion on this question.
I suspect it's an illusion, but next time you do it, get your phone out and record it. Watch it back when you're sober and you'll know for sure.
You can still get high and play the guitar like a motherfucking riot.

Thought this was r/nostupidquestions for a second

Lol, this is a joke right?
Wait until he finds a copy of JJ Cale's Troubadour OR Clapton's Slowhand
