A gorilla painted red would probably be the most accurate at this point.
(Ron Perlman had the advantage of looking like a gorilla painted human. So did David Harbour, imo, but the makeup design ruined his beautiful ugly face.)
His yellow eyes (ideally without pupils) are such an essential part of HB’s look; I’m pretty disappointed they didn’t include that detail here.
That said, I like this much better than David Harbour’s look; as much as I enjoyed that performance, I couldn’t get over how unpleasant he was to look at in every frame.
Looking different is fine by me but leaving the eyes like that?! Pretty huge miss.
His performance will just need to be that much better to make it feel like its not just some dude in cosplay lol
David's way of trying to get Hellboys personality down wasn't even close to what it's like in the comics. The way this movie doesn't try to be too flashy and how Hellboy isn't much for words at times feels like it's more like him. I'm hoping this turns out fairly decent.
Someone needs to give the rights to Hellboy to an actual fan of the comics. None of them are accurate enough, none of the looks are close enough. I’d MUCH rather an animated film series.
yeah, it’s obviously a low budget movie, but the filmmaking shown looks extremely amateurish and uninteresting. Maybe they will go with a different color grade at least after seeing the backlash
Fr, I like that the makeup is more subdued. Even from the one trailer this world feels more like the paranormal stuff is actually threatening and a bit less cartoonish.
Honestly not a fan of this look, when I saw jack Kesy had been cast along with a picture of him I thought "great, he already has very hellboy like features, don't need too much prosthetics that will obstruct his expressions and facial movement. But he looks pretty covered here, don't think they needed to fuck with his mouth so much. These pictures aren't a lot to go on, but it honestly looks kinda like amateur cosplay. Hoping they can pull it off and that it works in the setting that they've created. It's a bit unfair to judge the whole character design from just two pictures. That being said, I find this lacking.
You’re right just saw it. Wow first of all they suck at marketing this movie. Can’t even find it on YouTube, had to search for it on entertainment weekly. Secondly…looks pretty terrible.
Nailed the shoulders though. Ideally, Hellboy cannot carry a shoulder bag. 😬
Seriously, if he acts the part and the story’s good, I can forgive any shortcomings of the look. I have issues with the existing Hellboys too..
Ech. He's got a big beak and a round face. Honestly I expected better based on how Jack Kesy looks in real life.
Unsurprisingly, he looks best when they recreate the classic mignola shadows
https://preview.redd.it/mwr49b4ogx9d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e9d9f31ced6bf4fc2acf32d7984b168a7a4254af
Certainly feels more like Hellboy this time around, not as perfect as Ron Perlman but not a million miles off either, David Harbour’s was way too overdone and looked ridiculous, glad they’ve not done that again. Trailer doesn’t fill me with confidence though, I want paranormal mysteries not cheap horror.
I'm surprised that so many people are saying this looks cheap because to my eyes, this one looks the closest to Mignola's art that we've gotten to date. When you compare it to [drawings like this](https://hellboy.fandom.com/wiki/Hellboy_(character)), it feels like this is about as close as we can reasonably get with prosthetics.
I do agree that the eyes should be yellow, though.
It's probably the lack of color grading. When filming with digital cameras, the footage is inherently grey/milky because it's meant to be color graded. A lot of indie or cheap films don't hire a color grader, leaving their film with those flat, milky colors.
Can't believe people think this looks better than Harbours Hellboy lol thr film was shit but he looked and acted the part very well
This is a big no from me
I don't get all the hate. Just for the trailer, the feeling I have is that this might be the most faithful thing we had so far (Apart from the animation movies). It looks good, and it seems they picked a creepy story that fits perfectly for a one-shot.
I'm sorry but this looks like cheap trash. I was worried enough from the photos, but the actual trailer makes it even worse.
It looks like a fan edit where someone's stitched a few clips of their cosplay into some random footage from a direct-to-streaming horror movie. Particularly because they don't seem to have any footage of him actually doing anything - in the trailer for his own movie, all you see is a couple of shots of him by himself doing nothing. Judging by the rest of what's shown I'm guessing there was no room in the budget for any actual Hellboy action.
I have no idea why they'd want to try and make an even worse adaptation than the 2019 movie but it looks like they're on track.
There isn't much "action" in the original story until the ending. It's just Hellboy working a normal case he was called out for. I hope this makes enough that they can do more of his episodic stories. I hope the new guy does a good job of portraying him as far as his personality is concerned.
God I love that part and how disturbing it gets when they’re all in the church! I’m so excited to see how they do the crooked man here compared to insidious!
Also to the original comment there’s a good motion comic someone did on YouTube if you want a feel for how this movie is more than likely to play out (based on the title anyways)
Idk if this is sacrilege or not, but IMO if you’re gonna do hellboy in 2024, hellboy should be a performance capture character. I know I know, but like, that’s the only way to really capture his proportions without looking like…well an actor with caked on makeup and prosthetics. We’ve seen enough successful performance capture characters that I think it could be done successfully. Course you need a budget to do that
I kinda dig the look here. I heard Mignola wrote this, so I'll definitely give it a chance. I'm one of the few people I know that really enjoyed the David Harbour version.
Idk everyone in here dooming, but idc how small of a budget they're working with if the writing is on point and with Mignola behind the wheel, I've got high hopes.
he looks more like hellboy without the makeup
https://preview.redd.it/p5am03lbrx9d1.png?width=661&format=png&auto=webp&s=02ac977d2023a2143a77ff420788ac16baf98e90
Well if that's it so be it.
All I ask is for the rest to be good.
Previous tries had all the look but nothing to back it up. So hopefully this time it'll be the other way around
It seems like this is Hellboy's last shot at being a movie IP. It looks super cheap; not that that's a bad thing. Hopefully, the writing will be good enough to make everyone look past it.
I like the tonal direction of the trailer and how it emphasizes the horror element of HB comics over the campy(and kinda generic tbh) heroics of the Del Toro movies, but I can tell the low budget is going to be a detriment to it's visuals and a much harder sell for audiences because of it. It'll probably not review well, and fans of the old movies are already writing it off for not being Hellboy 3. Kinda dead on arival sadly. But maybe it'll be fun for fans who just prefer the comics over the movies.
This ain't it chief
Mad that they're apparently going for a period setting and a younger Hellboy but manage to make him look older than his two contemporary predecessors
It looks so bad. The trailer looks so bad. Why TF did they trust the guy who made the crank films to make this. I'm sorry but Hellboy needs more complexity then Jason staham jerking off to keep his heart working.
Well compared to the [Johann and Hellboy, locker room fight](https://youtu.be/VSDqDOLupNc?si=r1sAobOv4Z1XeA_0)

i think the biggest issue for me and what other people have mentioned, is his lack of jaw. Another issue I have is how little he can actually see of him in the trailer, i don’t think that bodes well for how much screen time he’ll get
Looks like someone's first attempt at sculpting a head in ZBrush (been there, but I'm not gonna make a movie around it). And look at that weird bulge above his Adam's apple xD a full year without a single word about this movie, and when they release and image, it's a close-up of a make-up malfunction? It's literally tearing at the seams
After watching the trailer
They really just need to hand Sam Raimi a check and say “make an Evil Dead movie but with Hellboy characters and imagery.” I don’t see how it would fail. Even the character designs would be great, the man loves practical costumes and prosthetics
He needs a slightly bigger jaw however its pretty good imo (also didint watch the trailer or read the comics so... Is he younger because he kinda looks like it)
Needs more jaw
THATS WHAT IT IS HIS FACE IS ALMOST INVERTED
It’s giving DERP
A gorilla painted red would probably be the most accurate at this point. (Ron Perlman had the advantage of looking like a gorilla painted human. So did David Harbour, imo, but the makeup design ruined his beautiful ugly face.)

That said, I like this much better than David Harbour’s look; as much as I enjoyed that performance, I couldn’t get over how unpleasant he was to look at in every frame.
"I hate those reboot movies, they never get the eyes right"
Compared to harbour hb this one is way toned down and that might be the reason behind it. Make it distinct and easily discernable from the last one
I’d love a fan edit with white or yellow eyes. It would make this look great
Looks pretty cheap. I’m hoping these are photos that still need to be edited and color graded. I can’t imagine a finished movie looking like this.
These are direct screenshots from the trailer.
Damn.
they're only making these films to keep the rights to Hellboy. It's the same reason we had so many shitty Hellraiser movies throughout the 2000s
Someone needs to give the rights to Hellboy to an actual fan of the comics. None of them are accurate enough, none of the looks are close enough. I’d MUCH rather an animated film series.
Mike Mignola is one of the screenwriters on this one.
It’s by Ketchup Studios so I’m not betting they’ll have a huge budget
yeah, it’s obviously a low budget movie, but the filmmaking shown looks extremely amateurish and uninteresting. Maybe they will go with a different color grade at least after seeing the backlash
Hellboy on the CW
LMFAO deadass
"No, *we're* The Hellboy." https://preview.redd.it/l0you0iakx9d1.png?width=209&format=png&auto=webp&s=b5cc6b8fc65dffaf1ac27fd8eeb8c49fb846711a
I'd watch that.
He looks like a normal man with goggles on his head
Ironic you say that because I used to think that his sawed horns were goggles lol
Guillermo Del Toro thought the same thing.
I used to think they were sticks of salami…
They certainly do look like them in these pictures 🤣
Just picturing a 'Normal Man' comic now.
NormalBoy
I see a painted man
A moor with strange powers? He haunts my dreams...
![gif](giphy|133NdAiutQGUX6)
A painted man, with his painted house, with his painted umbrella, with his painted mouse
Thats some cheap, syfy channel original movie looking stuff, and im in for it
Fr, I like that the makeup is more subdued. Even from the one trailer this world feels more like the paranormal stuff is actually threatening and a bit less cartoonish.

His jaw looks wrong...but maybe they can make it work.
Ah that’s why we haven’t got a trailer yet.
Trailer is out
You’re right just saw it. Wow first of all they suck at marketing this movie. Can’t even find it on YouTube, had to search for it on entertainment weekly. Secondly…looks pretty terrible.
I couldn't find it, do you have a link?
[Yep](https://ew.com/see-first-trailer-hellboy-the-crooked-man-jack-kesy-8671521)
What the hell no Mony Mony song to ruin the trailer like in 2019?
Thanks :)
It’s literally in the article you’re commenting on.
If they added the solid yellow eyes it would've looked more iconic and stylized instead of cheap
Oh no
Looks like a cosplay
That's offensive to cosplayers 😭
Nailed the shoulders though. Ideally, Hellboy cannot carry a shoulder bag. 😬 Seriously, if he acts the part and the story’s good, I can forgive any shortcomings of the look. I have issues with the existing Hellboys too..

Where did you see trailer
It's in the ew article https://ew.com/see-first-trailer-hellboy-the-crooked-man-jack-kesy-8671521
Thanks
Second photo looks so much better. He looks like a goblin in the first one
Agreed! The first one is very off and I can’t figure out why. The second pic is pretty decent imo!
I kinda like it
Bruh 💀 why does this keep happening lmao
I'm surprised that so many people are saying this looks cheap because to my eyes, this one looks the closest to Mignola's art that we've gotten to date. Same, same. Looking forward to it!
This is not looking good.
that trailer... he doesn't even have HB's gruff voice. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggghhhh!
[удалено]
Same thing with cartoons they don't transfer easily to real life.
It looks pretty bad
I'm sorry but this looks like cheap trash. I was worried enough from the photos, but the actual trailer makes it even worse. They had the shovel blessing in the trailer, that shit got me hyped. I really hope they can deliver on that setpiece.
Coshellboy
Yeah the second shot in particular looks like a fan film. This just screams, "trying to hold onto the film rights."
[For anyone wanting to see the trailer](https://youtu.be/hxY5Dp0pBtg?si=-0i6OSr-07Pb2sJX) And yes, that's the highest resolution.
Not expecting much out of this one. “From the director of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Crank” yeah I’m good
Looks better than 2019, so I'm in.
To be fair, that is one of the lowest bars in cinema history.
Lower than Airbender?
Any hellboy is good for me! I like them all
This looks so off to me
Man. Why can’t we just get a Hellboy animated series
I have one complain about the movie... why the hell are his eyes not YELLOW!
Man, just let Del Toro do his third Hellboy film already. Like what is this shit? Lmao
We’re never gonna get another Del Toro quality Hellboy are we?
Unless Mignola accepts the realization that killing the trilogy idea made it harder for him and all future directors, never
David harbors looked better than this. I will always be a supporter of that movie. Don’t care if I get downvoted to hell or not.

I've been saying something similar. At least maybe CGI the head. He should look more apish.

you know whats crazy about this image? he looks like my uncle
Besides the hellboy look looking a little meh, trailer genuinely looked great.
Strong "We have Hellboy at home" vibes... not sure what to think, but I like the direction the film is taking anyway
Besides the eyes being wrong, a more textured face plus longer muttonchops and we are somewhere decent
Honestly, he looks a bit wonky but ig that's alright. Atleast it's not how Hellboy looked in the 2019 reboot (no shame to the actor)
I kinda dig the look here. I heard Mignola wrote this, so I'll definitely give it a chance. I'm one of the few people I know that really enjoyed the David Harbour version.
Oh crap
i hate being this petty, but the eyes being just "normal human" eyes kills any interest i have in the entire project.
Wtf? His eyes are normal color? Why mess up something so simple? It’s a sign this movie is going to be shit.
At this point I’m considering making a fan film. Anyone want to help???

Didn’t expect this, but honestly don’t have much to comment yet.
Idk everyone in here dooming, but idc how small of a budget they're working with if the writing is on point and with Mignola behind the wheel, I've got high hopes.
Don’t understand the lukewarm reactions to this (and the trailer in general), i love this design. Do agree he could use some yellow contacts though
I feel yellow eyes with no pupils would sell this
This does not look good.
Honestly? My favorite one so far. Pearlman and Harbor always looked too bulky to move convincingly.
Idk it looks better than Harbour's hellboy design for me
he looks more like hellboy without the makeup https://preview.redd.it/p5am03lbrx9d1.png?width=661&format=png&auto=webp&s=02ac977d2023a2143a77ff420788ac16baf98e90
With the makeup, to me, he looks like James Roday.
he looks like hellboy despite the make up looking lazy af
The chin could use some work.
I think it looks pretty good, more natural, other movies i feel like the makeup was overblown
Oh no
The thing that makes it look so cheap is his bright blue eyes. He should have yellow eyes dammit
Well if that's it so be it. All I ask is for the rest to be good. Previous tries had all the look but nothing to back it up. So hopefully this time it'll be the other way around
Looks like Hellboy is sick or on crack!
Looks like someone cosplaying the Ron Perlman hellboy
Uhhh ... Ok..
Hellboy. Wish.com version
OMG! It looks so horrible! What's wrong with his face? who's playing him?
![gif](giphy|Wv6T4OfsGVxtwyHX6g)
Guys did we ever expect this to be good? It’ll be an enjoyable 1:45 and then we’ll all go back to reading the comics or rewatching the del toro films
Terrible cheap looking bloke painted red
Is this a fan film wtf is this shit
It seems like this is Hellboy's last shot at being a movie IP. It looks super cheap; not that that's a bad thing. Hopefully, the writing will be good enough to make everyone look past it.
His eyes aren't supposed to be blue...
Is that Jimmy in the back?
I like the tonal direction of the trailer and how it emphasizes the horror element of HB comics over the campy(and kinda generic tbh) heroics of the Del Toro movies, but I can tell the low budget is going to be a detriment to it's visuals and a much harder sell for audiences because of it. It'll probably not review well, and fans of the old movies are already writing it off for not being Hellboy 3. Kinda dead on arival sadly. But maybe it'll be fun for fans who just prefer the comics over the movies.
I kinda like the look of this film but why couldn't they get the eyes right? They didn't even try
This ain't it chief Mad that they're apparently going for a period setting and a younger Hellboy but manage to make him look older than his two contemporary predecessors
Is this like a fan made indie flick or something? Is someone fucking with me?
Oof. I was half convinced that Mignola was directing this himself ala Frank Miller and The Spirit with how bad this looks.
It looks so bad. The trailer looks so bad. Why TF did they trust the guy who made the crank films to make this. I'm sorry but Hellboy needs more complexity then Jason staham jerking off to keep his heart working.
I can dig this.
Did Mignola make a Syfy Channel original movie?
It's the lack of Yellow eyes that make it so bad
Fuck this
*Processing img iucth4alqy9d1...*
Well compared to the [Johann and Hellboy, locker room fight](https://youtu.be/VSDqDOLupNc?si=r1sAobOv4Z1XeA_0) I guess you cann wonder where the budget went for yellow scleral contact lenses.
i think the biggest issue for me and what other people have mentioned, is his lack of jaw. Another issue I have is how little he can actually see of him in the trailer, i don’t think that bodes well for how much screen time he’ll get
As a casual, this came outta NOWHERE.
I guess it's an unpopular opinion but I think it looks really good. This is as a massive Mignola fan as well.
Yeah this ain’t it. No disrespect to the actor or filmmakers but this looks miles beneath both Pearlman films and the Harbour one.
I feel like this would work better if it wasn't a Hellboy movie.
My biggest issue with this is how toned down the red is, it’s almost gray. He doesn’t feel like “Big Red” he just feels like “Large Clay”
If we can make a studio fix an ugly sonic.. we can make them add some jaw!
Yeah, let's make them reshoot all of his scenes with different prosthetics! /s
They got the vibe right, if only they had the budget 😬
Looks like a fan film.
It's his eyes
Idk I kinda like it. Should've made the eyes yellow/more glowy tho.
Why is everyone so afraid to give him shorts
Looks pretty cheap but I'm going to withhold judgement. Maybe a lower budget and passion was what Hellboy needed in a film. We will see.
Is this why Screw On Head is picking up in the algorithms?
This looks like a Hellboy fan film
Why do filmmakers find it so hard to translate page to screen? Especially when it has been done well before.
From the lawyers who brought you Roger Corman's Fantastic Four...
Yikes.
Kinda looks like a dude cosplaying Hellboy
That’s Hellboy?
I think it looks like if Shudder made a Hellboy movie.
Not even close
So is this official or fanmade? If it’s fanmade it’s not a bad effort. Pretty solid. If it’s official, I could see some areas needing improvement.
Heckboy!
That looks like shit
Harbours looked 10x better
It's Heck-Guy!
This looks like Hellboy: We Have Him At Home.
I don’t think Hellboy works in live action. Reality lacks Mignola lines and shadows. Even though The Crooked Man was Corbin…
Looks like cosplay and a fan-made movie.
This is probably the worst look yet. Alot of people hated the last one but dear god I can't with this one
Looks better than the last Hellboy movie.
There’s going to be another Hellboy movie??
Hold up, is this an actual movie or a fan film?
The Crow: Wicked Prayer of Hellboy movies.
After watching the trailer They really just need to hand Sam Raimi a check and say “make an Evil Dead movie but with Hellboy characters and imagery.” I don’t see how it would fail. Even the character designs would be great, the man loves practical costumes and prosthetics
The trailer looks dope and the creators involved so I think the movie might actually be fire
It’s wierd they didn’t make his eyes yellow.
Not interested without Pearlman.
I hope they can change the eyes in post-production to be yellow. Studios did it for Sonic!!
Gives me "guy cosplaying as Hellboy" vibes
They got him looking more like Heckguy
Porno Parody Hellboy
He needs a slightly bigger jaw however its pretty good imo (also didint watch the trailer or read the comics so... Is he younger because he kinda looks like it)
Looks like a fan film interpretation of Hellboy. Needs yellow eyes and better chin. Perlman design was perfect.
How did I not know they were making another Hellboy film?!?!?!?!
I kinda love it.
