When did u get better, I have the same problem?

TakeMeToAnotherWorld

I responded to another comment but I pretty much have had to get the top layers of my affected toenails removed. But I have a chunk of nail still left which I need to get taken off.

PerfectConcert6695

I’m confused what freezing is? Numbing?

TakeMeToAnotherWorld

Yes. That's another term for it.

PerfectConcert6695

Recovery can take a long long time (months). Did your doctor prescribe any steroids?

TakeMeToAnotherWorld

No they didn't. Just said to wait it out

Southern-Belle86

Did your retronychia ever grow out and go away?

TakeMeToAnotherWorld

One of my nails has been growing out pretty well and looking more normal since I had the top layers removed but I'll have to go back for my other nail. I was referred to a surgeon who was supposed to remove it fully but because it had come up from the cuticle they decided to just yank it off. But it left a chuck at the top attached. I was told removing the nail was useless because "it will just grow back like that" (bs) and to "file it down" which doesn't work because that part is WAY too hard. That nail literally hasn't grown in 4 months. I'm pretty sure the old chunk still attached is preventing it from growing.

Check out the meticulous manicurist on YouTube. Also look into nail mycosis. ( product) Bleeding daily sounds bad, see another podiatrist, please or go to urgent care

TakeMeToAnotherWorld

Thank you. I've been there a few times and they didn't know what I had. I was told to soak my feet. I don't have any fungus of my nails.

Cfit9090

Well you went to the wrong place. Get another opinion. Or soak em Because your post says they told you not to soak them and your comment says they told you two so come. Lies won't get you anywhere. It's okay if you don't want to go to a podiatrist. Can't get to one but don't lie about it Not sure you even read my comment. Nail mycosis is a topical solution. You can find it online or by searching meticulous manicurist store. Keep it real!

TakeMeToAnotherWorld

I have gone to a podiatrist several times. He's the one that removed the top toenails (yes plural. He told me he had never seen that before) on my other big toe (had to wait over a month to get it done. He's the only podiatrist in an area of almost 100,000 people) and was attempting to remove the top nail on this toe. I'm not sure why I would make up having toenail removed because it really wasn't pleasant. AND he had to attempt (three separate times!) to remove my nail on this toe WITHOUT any numbing... I literally have the medical records showing my podiatrist visits. You said I should go to urgent care. I just said I went there and was told to soak my feet. Sorry if you misunderstood. I didn't know I had retronychia at the time and they clearly didn't either. I went there before my first appointment with my podiatrist (had to wait a while for that too) and when I told him (the podiatrist) what the ER doctor said HE (the podiatrist) said NOT to soak my feet. I also was prescribed antibiotics another time (which did absolutely nothing. Again, I didn't know what I had at this point) by another doctor who also suggested soaking my feet. These were all separate events. Advice from entirely different people. Podiatrist disagreed with doctors' advice, that's all... Podiatrist confirmed I DON'T have nail fungus. I know this because I actually asked him this myself during our first appointment (when, again, I had no idea what I had), as the nails on my big toes were yellow (maybe you googled retronychia and saw yellow toenails...). This is called xanthonychia. It happens when the nail lifts from the nail bed and is exposed to air. My retronychia is due to repetitive trauma over the years (foot and muscular issues causing problems. I just got custom orthotics this year but I should have gotten them a long time ago...). But anyway, I was just asking for advice on what I could do at home. Going to another podiatrist will involve travel time and taking the day off work. But if there's nothing really I can do myself and if it's not getting better soon I'll have to go elsewhere

Cfit9090

Gotcha . I think we both misunderstood. I hope you get relief in a timely manner

Southern-Belle86

Isn’t nail mycosis a condition? Or is there a product that would help with retronychia?

Cfit9090

It's a condition and a there's a product called now mycosis that is unbelievably healing for all nail issues. I promise, you'll love it.

Southern-Belle86

I’m not able to find that product. Is it on Amazon?

Cfit9090

Cfit9090

Sold by Imperial Feet. Also, the meticulous manicurist sells in her shop for a couple bucks cheaper. [link to imperial ](https://imperialfeet.com/en-us/products/nail-mycosis-solution)

Southern-Belle86

Ok thank you. Will that product work thought for retronychia? It talks about clearing fungus but not retronychia

forgotmypassword4714

Yeah I read the same thing, it's just for fungal. I hope no one afflicted with retronychia reads these comments and buys it. It's kinda weird how she was shilling it so hard but then as soon as someone asks if it actually helps for retronychia she backtracks and is all just "You need to see a professional."

Southern-Belle86

Have you suffered from retronychia? If so, have you found anything that has helped? I really truly don’t want my nails removed. I’ve heard so many stories of people having such issues from that

forgotmypassword4714

Yeah my left big toe was hurting for a couple months and then got swollen about two weeks ago, and then out of nowhere my right big toe followed it and got swollen too, but I didn't know what it was until a few days or so ago. I've just been reading all the threads on here and apparently either removal or a prescription steroid cream is needed (Clobetasol Propionate 0.05% cream is a strong one I've seen mentioned a lot, and I've also seen Triamcinolone Acetonide cream mentioned a little). But they all also say that most doctors will mis-diagnose it- "I had to go to five doctors before one of them agreed it was reyronychia" is something I've read on here many times lol, so I think I'm gonna first wait a week or two and see if it improves with the at-home remedies I've read about: Soaking in warm water mixed with epsom salt, and then applying Betadine/iodine. I've also been applying triple antibiotic and wrapping in gauze, but idk if that's helping, I feel like maybe sometimes it's better to have the toe completely bare. Either way though, I make sure to take off my socks now when I get home from work (I used to wear socks 24/7 and apparently that's one of the causes, along with tight shoes). I also read one person saying she used urea cream, and also a mix of tea tree oil and coconut oil. So on Amazon I actually found a cream that has all three of those things in it, it's called ASDToTio 42% Urea Cream. I started using that yesterday. I'm thinking of using hydrocortisone also but idk, I already have so many things I'm putting on my toes lol. *Edit: I've also started experimenting with the taping (putting medical tape on it in a way to where the tape kinda pulls the nail up/forward, to encourage it to grow the correct direction).

Southern-Belle86

Thank you for all the suggestions. I do wear socks 24/7 especially now that my toes are so ugly lol but you’ve read that’s a cause? Or at least something that hinders them getting better? Where did you get iodine? How do you use it, like how often and specifically just in the nail?

TakeMeToAnotherWorld

Yeah I definitely wasn't going to buy something I don't need... And they accuse me of lying (like what? Yes I'm lying about having my toenail removed and going to the podiatrist multiple times. Such a weird take...) and then say we BOTH misunderstood 🤦‍♀️ Nah

giftcard66

Is yours red and swollen and painful? Half my toe is from this

TakeMeToAnotherWorld

They were super swollen and painful before I had them removed (nails not my toes!). Well podiatrist removed a few layers of nail from one big toe but wouldn't touch the other because of a really bad blister. That nail eventually fully detached from the cuticle and a surgeon pulled it off with pliers. A chuck of it stayed attached though and it's preventing my good nail from growing properly.

Cfit9090

You need a medical professional. I wish there was an easy answer or remedy. Don't let it get worse or infected area will get into the blood stream. Seek medical attention asap. Feel better
