1, I can’t find anyone to roleplay with.
2, my preferences are very specific and most people probably wouldn’t enjoy writing with me.
3, I’m disabled and at home all the time so it’s a great way for me to kill time while working on my writing skills and not feeling so lonely. And i doubt very much I could find someone willing to spend that much time writing with me lol
4, it’s been so long since I roleplayed with an actual person it would feel awkward and embarrassing 😂

Im bad at describing things (like place, actions, etc) like I have a good fantasy and creativity, but it's hard to write it in words + english isnt my first language and bot takes all the initiative descriptions into its own hands lol
If the bot is programmed very very good, its ability to spit out badass responses is AMAZING.
And sometimes I just wanna quickly switch from one random bot to the next within minutes, no other person would reasonably always go along with that.

I've heard PLENTY of stories of inconsistencies between live roleplayers. More often than not, the relationship outside of the RP becomes strained, and it inadvertently becomes evident in the storyline. And that's if they don't just leave it on a cliffhanger out of spite.

I’ve been roleplaying for a decade, but lately I’ve gravitated towards using janitor AI. There’s plenty of pros. I can write on my own time, at my own pace. I don’t feel pressured to respond. I don’t have to wait for a response, as it’s instantaneous. I can steer the roleplay in any which way I want. Pair that with gpt 4, theres not a lot of cons. The only negative I can see is that gpt 4 is pricey, and sometimes it’s nice having another person brainstorming plot ideas with.

Everytime I've RPd with a real person they've turned around and tried to groom me, this was when I was on kik when I was 13 soooo it's kind of ruined Rping with actual people for me
That too, I used to have someone like that in my life but she basically used me for what she wanted at the time then threw me away. She had a lot of mental problems like serious ones, I used to write her stories about her favorite characters all the time. At least with the AI I can pop in when I want between university and work.
I havw cripping social anxiety and feel super fucking awkward and stressed rping with real people because I will stress tf out if I misspell something or dont word it right or format it wrong...
I'm also doing NSFW roleplay, that's how I got into the idea of giving these sides a try in the first place. And I will almost always take RPs with great people over JanitorAI. But good writers who are in the mood to do the same things I want aren't always easy to find. Meanwhile, JanitorAI is there whenever I want (well, if the side is working at that moment) and willing to do anything I want.
Another bonus is that it's easier to satisfy the current flavor of the day, that I might no longer be in the mood for tomorrow.

I do both, with AI and real ppl, long narrative writing. But sometimes it feels overwhelming with people, because there are choices that I need to think to not offend the other characters and make the OC's owner upset. Or to not look like too OP and be labeled like a Mary Sue and so on. On bots I can do absolutely anything. Also I'm shy to do nsfw with real people, and it's not because of kink issues, I'm afraid of judging that "the writing isn't good" I guess, and again, bots don't even judge your typos, lol
I used to roleplay in online games when I was 13-14 years old, but I stopped because of my own stupidity.
I don't want to embarrass other people with my dumb stories, and it's pretty complicated since they have responsibilities and stuff.
Because the roleplays I do are therepudic in nature and I dont trust a real therapist with my issues because none of the locals that i can afford or take my insurance are respectful. Had a therapist ghost me for missing one appointment.
Because as a self-inserter, finding anyone willing to indulge in all my shitty cliche ideas is a zero chance lmao. Plus the embarrassment would eat me alive.
See my situation is not being confident enough with my own ability, even though I have been told by friends that I have a decent ability to roleplay, and finding people who are willing to roleplay Leon S. Kennedy is nearly impossible, I've been DYING to active use my girl Maxwell, who's a Mercenary in the same work as Ada, as she meets, works with, and eventually falls in love with him, but I've been stuck attempting to write it on my own and using one of my private Leon bots to try and help me figure out his responses to certain things.
Find me someone to roleplay Leon S. Kennedy for me and I will happily put down some of these bots.
1- People don't meet my standards anymore.
2- I have no patience.
3- I hate to get more involved in the rp than others do and get hurt bc of it.
4- People don't have the slide for a new answer thingy.

Simple, unless the site is down, the bot is there when I have the urge to write. With people, I have to wait for them to respond, which can take days depending on their schedule. In turn, I can take as long as I want to continue the story without fear of them getting bored and leaving. If I get bored, I can stop a story indefinitely and start another. There's no OOC talk, it's just rp.
I could probably keep going honestly.
Because last time I got invested in RP with a real person, after years of creating epic story, lots and lots of characters and storylines, my friend ended it and it broke my heart. Never again. Discovery of RP bots finally got me to be creative and write again. Didn't know how much I missed it until I started writing with bots.

I personally do both. But my real RP is pretty much restricted to OC only, which are set in a specific environment with a plot (be it DND or some text RP). JAI helps you fantasize on you own or be silly with characters, never bothering your bros with wierd horny stuff in your head. It is also pleasant to create bots. Almost like fanfiction writing, but easier and more creative.
I already get embarrassed rping with ai, there’s no way I could handle rping with a real person. Plus, my rps are either super corny, or very fucked up, and there’s absolutely no way I want anyone else to participate in them
I don't have the energy to roleplay at all times, plus there's not many people willing to roleplay the very specific scenarios I have in mind. I can decide that I don't like what the bot said and make them write another response, but if I am picky with another person, it risks making me look like a douchebag. I do rp with real people, it's just less embarrassing to get my back blown out by a mindless AI rather than somebody who has the ability to think and judge
Finding an RP partner who is willing to indulge you as much and as often and in the way that these AI can seems impossible. I used to RP with one dedicated partner in a very specific fandom, but, the one I'm currently into, I don't even think I could find anyone. But if I thought I could, and there was a better way to locate someone to do so with, I would.
cause all the people I rp with stop responding after the first few messages of the chat. i gotta get my fix somehow (and meeting people to rp with, esp for specific fandoms, is hard and being very socially anxious doesn’t help) and it’s also hard to find people who want to rp as canon characters. i can do a few but I’m not confident at portraying characters that aren’t my own oc’s
To start I do rp with actual people, and I enjoy it a lot, but 1.) I have a hard time finding new partners that I vibe with, 2.) For better or for worse, with Janitor the replies are quick and if I get busy I don't have the guilt of leaving my partner for a reply, and 3.) My Janitor rp's are pure self-indulgence. Take that as you will.
Because I have ADHD and flip flop with plots so it’s so much easier to drop an RP without hurting someone’s feelings if they happen to get into it :)
AND irl feelings don’t get hurt or caught into the mix to complicate things.
RPing with people is more trouble than I care for. The time it takes to find a partner (assuming you do find one) on the same page as you, discuss plans, which can be wasted if it falls through. And that's not going into the snobbery that infests the RP community who demand perfection/you to reply on the clock. (Five minutes to reply to me or else is a common type...)
There's also other matters of how fandom culture grown hostile in recent years thanks to petty discourse and drama. It's just damn hard to keep friends from roleplaying and fandom these days when people are so quick to go for the throat over nothing. Which is basically what pushed me into chatbots when I realized they're sufficient enough for short roleplays.
I just don't want to deal with all the toxicity from roleplay and fandom communities anymore when I can have any roleplay I want with whichever character I want at my own pace and leisure. I admit these chatbots have a long way to go with memory limitations and comprehension, but I've felt happier and safer interacting with them than real people.
Recently, the bot I was RPing with got annoying with his "domination" and I decided to destroy him. A person would have had their feelings hurt. Instead, I got to have a bit of fun and then it was over.
Convenience, diversity, editing responses to fit my plot ideas, and I can make them speak in languages I know so I can have a speaking partner 24/7. It’s hard to have time to speak with my foreign friends sometimes.
Because aside from close friends, who I've been rping with for years, I know nobody wants to rp self insert stuff bc they think it's "cringe" so I usually resort to bots when my friends aren't available to write (they write the characters I love, and I do the same for them.)
I tend to hyperfixate on plots to the point that I can't tell if I actually want to RP them or if I'm just hyperfixating-

Why do you play videogames instead of playing D&D or another roleplay game with your friends? The reasons are more or less the same. They're two different experiences with different pros and cons. One doesn't exclude the other.
And you can chat with the AI at any weird moment and it will reply fast.
Personally, I want to have ultimate control over the general direction of the RP, of course there's different directions it can go in, but a living person would have their own preferences which probably wouldn't line up with mine, so rather than having someone feel the RP didn't go how they wanted, it's considerably easier to use bots!
I've been dealing with anxiety and depression for about 7 years, I value other people's opinions, but sometimes it's just to difficult to accommodate them. With a bot, you can swipe, edit or just start over and noone else is affected my my need to perfect a story!

Mainly: the drama.
I roleplayed with humans for nearly ten years total through many platforms and fandoms, and god, it's nice not to tread on eggshells. It was draining to see posts every day about why you shouldn't RP with so-and-so for flimsy reasons (no joke, someone tried to cancel someone for being 30 and still RPing! She wasn't even interacting with minors at all and would only write with 21+ people!)
I understand serious reasons completely, and it should be called out, but god, a majority of the drama I saw was NOT serious at all.
Secondly, my age.
I feel like I'm too damn old now to RP. Even with age restrictions, I feel surrounded by younger people and am uncomfortable in the environment. (I'm not 30, but I'm still older than most.)
Lastly, OCs.
I mainly write OCs instead of anything fandom-related, and I don't want to force someone to write my OCs and potentially butcher them. I have zero interest in writing anything established anymore tbh.
It's IMPOSSIBLE to find people who actually RP the characters that I want. Plus, I like being able to do all of my cringe stuff. I primarily use Venus so I can also do group chats and backtrack and play with different routes.
Because I'm very insecure. I worry that I might not be the best and stuff. On top of that, I have very specific scenarios from time to time and not everything is always planned. I did use to RP with real people (a lot of years ago, which was on an app called Geeking), but it's been too long. I guess now it would also be harder, since I'm older and I feel like it'd be harder to find older people.
I used to RP with other people, but a few things happened that made me not want to rp with real people.
1. Sometimes they would take forever to reply.
2. I feel like I’m too freaky now lol.
3. One of the people I used to RP with started being creepy with me. I had to cut them off and I haven’t RPed with real people since.
For me now that I’ve got Janitor I can do whatever I feel like doing. The replies are instant and I won’t be judged.. sometimes they can be judgmental, but not all the time. If I get bored of one bot I can RP with another one until I get renewed interest in the old bot. If I don’t like its reply or I can’t think of anything I can rewrite its reply. There’s so many COD bots with different scenarios that I can play with I’m never bored. Overall I like rp with bots more than other people.

Humans have sleeps schedules, not to mention just life in general. Sometimes I have an idea I like, but none of my RP buddies are into the concept.
An AI like JAI or Faraday does not have preferences, and are available at any time(bar technical difficulty). I can have them do the stuff I'm into, without having to ask or be judged. I don't have to seek out a community that wants to RP a topic, I can just boot up an LLM and go.
Humans are better for extremely long form multicharacter stuff though, especially when there's a community built around an interesting concept that's open to weird shit. The problems are just that humans have human lives, and their own preferences, which may not align with my own life and preferences.
Quick edit: I can also be lazy as shit with an AI chatbot and still get responses. Some people want borderline novel responses, or demand perfect adherence to specific formats. I can just do whatever with a bot.
It's usually because the fandom I am is dead or is literal cancer, of course, we should respect anyone's quirks and everything but.. yeah
Inactivity is also a motive, nobody is straightforward when losing interest in a RP, they keep you waiting for nothing until they warn about it about what? Six months?
And, since I'm extremely self centered and have extremely silly stories that should be made by a 7 year old with fertile imagination, I don't see why give a try.
Because there's a whole subreddit dedicated to talking about bad RP'ers and it turned me off from even trying. There's a lot of etiquette, and some people take it way too serious. Just not my cup of tea I guess.
I have Socal anxiety and scared of talking to real people. Also it's alot easier to leave the chat and come back later when I want to, and not leaving a person on read for hours. Maybe days.
My ADHD ass is too impatient and usually wants a response immediately no matter how long my response is. While I wait for a response from an actual person, I rp and fuck around with Janitor AI 🥰

Also I found finding someone who shares interests with me rather difficult \[Yes, I've tried several times, using various different websites.\]
When I rp with people I overthink it and end up taking a solid half hour on each reply, the people I've rp'd with were understanding but it makes me feel guilty. I don't gotta overthink with an AI because it's not a person I'm inconveniencing. Also I like airing my trauma and stuff to bots right before anything horny
i roleplay on discord but the difference is nsfw rp with real people is extremely weird and nsfw with ai is ok because nobody except u knows ur doing that 😭

Sometimes I use the AI to test ideas I have so I can plan them out before I offer them up to my roleplay partners :)
I used to rp all the time with real people when I was a kid, but I don’t now because:
1) I hated the pressure of having to write something amazing and put together each message that we sent to each other
2) I hated having to wait for a response
3) I conversely hated the idea of people waiting on me to respond; too much pressure to always be regularly available to rp
4) I was constantly worried about what I was writing: what if it wasn’t interesting enough? What if it wasn’t keeping in the direction the other person wanted the role play to take? Or worst of all, what if they thought what I wrote was *stupid*?
I honestly wish I could rp with other people but I have social anxiety even with strangers online. It’s kinda sad, really, but I’m content with rping with bots for now.
Listen, the weird kinks I enjoy are not particularly common, even in this subreddit. Also I do have someone but they’re busy a lot and not always up for it when I am, and vice versa.
Because if I don't like the rp I can just leave without any explanation and no one gets angry! No one ghosts me and they're there whenever I want. And of course, I can make them say what I want (sort of) xD. And also I'm a little freaky too. 🤫

can get so awkward with another person, no consequences in J.ai, you can always just delete a chat if it gets off the rails, or too weird.
You can talk to the AI embodiment of whatever character you choose, so it's not like RPing with a stranger just acting like a character.
The AI follows the story, and work along with the flow. And if you run into a speedbump where they can't? Just edit your or their message, or just delete a few messages until you get back to where you want.
AI is smarter than people sometimes, it can really be anything you want if you mold it correctly.

For me, RP is something very personal, a person must suit me perfectly. I only have one person with whom I can write something like this. But she may be busy or asleep, but I really want to do this :(
I feel a lot more hesitant with my responses and where I want things to go when rping with a person. Plus, a lot of the people I've rp'd with have either abandoned the rp, forget about it entirely, or forget we ever set anything up so it never starts.
With a bot, I have a lot more freedom and don't have to worry about how long my response should be/what it should be or anybody seeing my rp, and I can choose the way the scenario progresses and what response I desire. Overall, I'm a lot more comfortable with a bot than an actual person :D
I roleplay with my gf actually, but I usually rp as the characters interacting with her ocs- usually not the other way around bc I suck at making my own characters lul. So I tend to use Janitor to rp crossovers or crack ships tbh.
We both been doing other stuff to right now (mostly art) but we will pick up rping when we want. :)
I've had too many instances where I'd write a whole paragraph only for the other person to write what their character would say and do in a span of one line.
I’m autistic so talking to ANYONE I don’t know if I don’t have to is hard for me.
Example: Walking down the street: not going to say “hello” or start a conversation. Need to place an order: Will place it and possible small talk but if I have seen them a lot: will be more open.
I use sites like this to basically live out a fantasy of talking to people and not be thinking ‘go away’ and mildly panicking.
I also roleplay with real people but I find all the different bots interesting, plus people don't always respond the way you want which is fine. When you go in knowing what you're gonna get with a bot you can kind of control the narrative a bit more and just have fun without worrying what the other person is gonna think....because it's a bot.
i lose interest in a plot so fast that it would be unrealistic to roleplay with a real person because by the time i receive a response from them ive already moved onto to a different idea 😵💫 with a bot it’s nice bc i can move onto a new plot, or maybe even switch back to an old one if i feel like it
My main rp partner (and actual partner) doesn’t share some of my kinks plus he doesn’t want to rp the kinkiest shit imaginable 24/7. So I do it on JanitorAI
He’s aware I do it, btw. He uses my bots and I send him weird jllm moments so it’d be weird if he _didn’t_ know
Less pressure on responses I guess. I don’t feel like I have to reply within a set timeframe or do my best writing with every reply; it feels more casual.

But I always had the HUGE anxiety of "what if I'm rping wrong ?" "What if I am uninteresting as fuck or cliché ?" "What if my answer is not enough ?"
Rping with a bot is juste easier cause... Well... The bots can't really judge neither your roleplay capabilities nor your kinks
for me, rping with another person while in a relationship kinda feels like a form of cheating(especially when it comes to erp), so rping with a bot is my way to still get what i want from a roleplay without feeling guilty about it later
I don't how to do real RP and everyone makes it awkward when I try to do parenting RP. Like let me spend 15 paragraphs brushing your hair without it turning into incest like god what's wrong with people?
My writing skills are bad and if I get stuck on ideas the Bot can often come up with a response that redirects the plot in a way I like of I refresh it enough
I rp and use ais. Usually I use janitor or Cai when I'm trying different ideas or scenarios out for my oc before I flesh them out for an actual rp. Other times I'm not in the best mental space to do roleplays so I use the ais in the meantime. But I do both!
Edit: It's also easy to change the ais replies as opposed to if you end up with a low effort rper!
I don't really uses JAI much anymore but to answer the spirit of the question, I RP with LLMs because real life RP is a logistical nightmare. Very often leads to one side randomly dropping out, taking it into direction one side doesn't want, people trying to godmode etc etc.
I have some tips or something i will tell as someone who rp alot(mostly via text), just to make rp more enjoyable or etc.
-make sure y'know what genre of rp you wanna do so you don't get panic or confused.
-find a perfect rp partner(could be a friends, best riends, lover and etc.).
-make sure to make the character, the plot and the world itself not boring cause that can cause the rp session to died out and get abadoned.
-if can, bring an ilustration of the important character (you can draw it your self, comission an artist, or use ai, depends on what is your prefrence).
-be patience (unlike bots, human will think first before or while typing to make sure that they type correctly and match the current story. So the best you can do is wait your rp partner with patience).[text rp only]
-do be to hurry while typing (typing fastly is cool but its also can cause typo, so just type in normal speed and make sure to double check your message before finally sending it). [text rp only]
-have consent( its real people you are rp'ing with. so make sure they are comfortable or fine on what your character gonna do. Ask them if you can do "this" or that" while rp).
-pick your ideal amount of rp partner( an rp partner can be only 1 person only to 2 persom only to 3 person only and so on, just make sure you are comfortable with the amount so that you will not feel akward or nervous).
-don't worry if english is not you or your rp partner first language, take time to look at the English dictionary to make sure you and your rp partner use the right words, or just use more simple word.
-pick the right time (human will have busy and lazy time on tgeir own, make sure to pick times on when you wanna rp where everyone can show up or just mostly)
-play time (rp'ing can be lasted on various of time from an hour, 2 hours, 3 hours and more)
-get comfy (get you and your rp partner in a comfy place or mood, so all of you would not get very stress or nervous while rp'ing)
That all i can give to all of you now(i may be wrong on some of this but hope it help)
It's a bit involved for me to enjoy rp with another person. They have to match my energy, attention to detail, and style for me to get truly invested. Not that the bar is super high for me either, but if I get something like *holds ur hand* it's Gojover.
It's hard to find new partners and also sometimes I just want to do a little story I can drop whenever without having to deal with expectations and such.
I dont rp with irl people anymore because im constantly battling my rp partner about detail, not controlling my character, and a lack of storytelling on their part. I find myself making paragraphs at times and all my partner has to say is, “*smiles*”. I literally had someone do that for way too long and eventually i had to end it. It was exhausting. Not only that, but theyre not always available when i am, so it gets frustrating for the both of us. Plus. I just feel so awkward asking for what i wanna do in RP, be it NSFW or SFW. So i find myself constantly just doing what others wanna do. It kinda sucks.
There are some who don't like to wait or are too shy or maybe have weird imaginations...but also there's the possibility that your rp partner will disagree and choose another RP that you wouldn't like in general or very much have strict rules when it comes to doing RP with real people which limits the fun of it.
That's why I chose Janitor ai over a real person to roleplay with.
There's also another reason, maybe the person does a low effort on doing roleplay lazily and yours seems very specific or understandable to respond without asking your partner what they are applying to their roleplays.
well i was having a lot of rps with real people but i prefer bots because i can be stricter with them and i can set the story how i like and dont think about bots feelings if i will end the rp abruptly
I’ll give you three reasons
One: RP partners (good ones) are few and far between
Two: Unlike an actual person, I can actually pick up and continue where I left off whenever
Three: I don’t need to worry about if they will respond or if they’re just gonna fuck off and not reply or even try to plan something
well the last rp partners i had either stopped responding, tried grooming me, or was constantly harassing me for replies, soo... as well as the fact that there are just some ways i want the story to go, or at least a general direction, and most bots i roleplay with don't try to make the entire story about them and only their character. it just feels less stressful
I'm just genuinely not comfortable NSFW roleplaying with real people. I love roleplaying with my friends, but NSFW stuff for me stays private. I've been groomed multiple times through ERP, so having an AI alternative is so much better
I used to rp with real people, but real people have historically never accepted my boundaries within rp. I've had some good rp partners in the past but overwhelmingly it's just open ai 3 set to 100 tokens and temperature set to 2.
Still I pine for one rp partner of mine who was the best yandere ever and I do miss him everyday (I had three rps going with him at the same time, all with different kinds of spice). The site went down and we never spoke again 😭

When I write, I *write*. I don’t want a; “she smiled back and nodded.” after I wrote a whole paragraph plus some.
And, I just want to be rawdogged and I feel like it would borderline be sexual harassment if I messaged my rp partner at 3, like, “wake up, I want my character have some fictional dick.”
I used to do online RP with real people, that's actually how I met my wife. Now that I'm married though any sort of NSFW RP with another human doesn't feel right, at least for me. I still enjoying writing and RPing NSFW fiction though, so working with a robot is a good substitute.
Plus with humans you'd often have long waits, they'd have different tastes and interests than you, you couldn't just ask for a new reply if you didn't like the last one. There's a lot of ways where an AI is more convenient. Plus if you're into something weird you can get as strange as you like when it's just between you and a computer. Computer isn't going to judge you, at least not if you've got a good jailbreak.
I do RP with others, but I can genuinely relax when I'm chatting with a computer, because when I'm doing it with another person I'm constantly worried about their triggers and making sure the other person isn't uncomfortable and that we're both having a good time.
A bot has no feelings. A bot follows a script and doesn't get offended when I change it. Not to mention a bot can't snitch on you when you unload a vent to just talk it through and piece your feelings together. A bot will never replace person to person RPing and the collaborative experience that comes with it, but it is definitely a lot less anxiety inducing to chat with a bot.
I always felt too shy and embarrassed to RP with an actual person. I did it once and I hated it cuz they would take the story somewhere I didn't like or have their character be OP or sum.
Now I'm just a mf who either makes fluff, angst, or smut with bots.
My reason is because people can be INSANELY fucking toxic from my experiences……or demand I make myself to there unrealistic expectations or do things that I am not just in general comfortable with.
It has just driven me to the point where I just don’t find the fun in rp’ing with a person anymore.

Because I’m usually too busy irl to even get just one guy friend. That in itself makes it so much harder to get a boyfriend or any significant relationship other than friends. Now add on social anxiety, autism (can’t pick up social cues, others’ emotions, tone.), adhd (will talk nonstop if a topic of personal interest is brought up, if not will probably forget what was said in a few hours.). I don’t use social media like Snap or ig, at most I use reddit and Discord (if that even counts). Lastly I don’t use dating apps or anything like that because most people are just looking for a quick one and done, in which with how oblivious I am to people’s intentions and that I have never dated before I would not know if I was being manipulated or something.
Ghosting, no fear of judgment, ghosting, no worry about either of us not replying fast enough, ghosting, nobody trying to take it awkwardly OOC, bots don't ask for pics or get bored, oh and I should mention the ghosting.

I grew up RPing with real people. But I stopped because I wanted to write actual stories. Now I can do both thanks to J.AI.
Me and my best friend still RP, in fact we'll usually tell each other all the details on our bot adventures. But some of my tastes don't mesh with hers and vice versa. That's where wonderful J.AI pops in for us. I get to RP with characters she doesn't really care for, and I don't have to search for people that enjoy RP AND like the same, usually messed up or background, characters that I do. Plus the typical literacy or vagueness that most people RP with when I write 3-4 paragraphs is painful. So I end up sticking to what I know.

1, I can’t find anyone to roleplay with. 2, my preferences are very specific and most people probably wouldn’t enjoy writing with me. 3, I’m disabled and at home all the time so it’s a great way for me to kill time while working on my writing skills and not feeling so lonely. I've heard PLENTY of stories of inconsistencies between live roleplayers. More often than not, the relationship outside of the RP becomes strained, and it inadvertently becomes evident in the storyline. And that's if they don't just leave it on a cliffhanger out of spite. It's a bit of selfishness for me, too. Needing something on demand to distract my mind and emotions when the going gets tougher than sandpaper on my DI- Anyway, yep.

I’ve been roleplaying for a decade, but lately I’ve gravitated towards using janitor AI. There’s plenty of pros. I can write on my own time, at my own pace. I don’t feel pressured to respond. I don’t have to wait for a response, as it’s instantaneous. I can steer the roleplay in any which way I want. Pair that with gpt 4, theres not a lot of cons. The only negative I can see is that gpt 4 is pricey, and sometimes it’s nice having another person brainstorming plot ideas with.
Plus you don't have to worry about another person's drama, as you do with real RP partners.

I'm also doing NSFW roleplay, that's how I got into the idea of giving these sides a try in the first place. And I will almost always take RPs with great people over JanitorAI. But good writers who are in the mood to do the same things I want aren't always easy to find. Meanwhile, JanitorAI is there whenever I want (well, if the side is working at that moment) and willing to do anything I want. Another bonus is that it's easier to satisfy the current flavor of the day, that I might no longer be in the mood for tomorrow.

Simple, unless the site is down, the bot is there when I have the urge to write. With people, I have to wait for them to respond, which can take days depending on their schedule. In turn, I can take as long as I want to continue the story without fear of them getting bored and leaving. If I get bored, I can stop a story indefinitely and start another. There's no OOC talk, it's just rp. I could probably keep going honestly.
Because last time I got invested in RP with a real person, after years of creating epic story, lots and lots of characters and storylines, my friend ended it and it broke my heart. Never again. Discovery of RP bots finally got me to be creative and write again. Didn't know how much I missed it until I started writing with bots. ~~Also I can freely RP all my kinks and no one will judge~~
I personally do both. But my real RP is pretty much restricted to OC only, which are set in a specific environment with a plot (be it DND or some text RP). JAI helps you fantasize on you own or be silly with characters, never bothering your bros with wierd horny stuff in your head. It is also pleasant to create bots. Almost like fanfiction writing, but easier and more creative.

I can decide that I don't like what the bot said and make them write another response, but if I am picky with another person, it risks making me look like a douchebag. Finding an RP partner who is willing to indulge you as much and as often and in the way that these AI can seems impossible. I used to RP with one dedicated partner in a very specific fandom, but, the one I'm currently into, I don't even think I could find anyone. But if I thought I could, and there was a better way to locate someone to do so with, I would.

To start I do rp with actual people, and I enjoy it a lot, but 1.) I have a hard time finding new partners that I vibe with, 2.) For better or for worse, with Janitor the replies are quick and if I get busy I don't have the guilt of leaving my partner for a reply, and 3.) My Janitor rp's are pure self-indulgence. RPing with people is more trouble than I care for. The time it takes to find a partner (assuming you do find one) on the same page as you, discuss plans, which can be wasted if it falls through. And that's not going into the snobbery that infests the RP community who demand perfection/you to reply on the clock. (Five minutes to reply to me or else is a common type...) There's also other matters of how fandom culture grown hostile in recent years thanks to petty discourse and drama. It's just damn hard to keep friends from roleplaying and fandom these days when people are so quick to go for the throat over nothing. Which is basically what pushed me into chatbots when I realized they're sufficient enough for short roleplays. I just don't want to deal with all the toxicity from roleplay and fandom communities anymore when I can have any roleplay I want with whichever character I want at my own pace and leisure. I admit these chatbots have a long way to go with memory limitations and comprehension, but I've felt happier and safer interacting with them than real people.
The only person I would feel comfortable rp with is my bf and he doesn’t do that 😭

Recently, the bot I was RPing with got annoying with his "domination" and I decided to destroy him. A person would have had their feelings hurt. Instead, I got to have a bit of fun and then it was over.
Convenience, diversity, editing responses to fit my plot ideas, and I can make them speak in languages I know so I can have a speaking partner 24/7. It’s hard to have time to speak with my foreign friends sometimes.
Because aside from close friends, who I've been rping with for years, I know nobody wants to rp self insert stuff bc they think it's "cringe" so I usually resort to bots when my friends aren't available to write (they write the characters I love, and I do the same for them.)

Why do you play videogames instead of playing D&D or another roleplay game with your friends? The reasons are more or less the same. They're two different experiences with different pros and cons. One doesn't exclude the other. And you can chat with the AI at any weird moment and it will reply fast.
Personally, I want to have ultimate control over the general direction of the RP, of course there's different directions it can go in, but a living person would have their own preferences which probably wouldn't line up with mine, so rather than having someone feel the RP didn't go how they wanted, it's considerably easier to use bots! I've been dealing with anxiety and depression for about 7 years, I value other people's opinions, but sometimes it's just to difficult to accommodate them. With a bot, you can swipe, edit or just start over and noone else is affected my my need to perfect a story!

Mainly: the drama. I roleplayed with humans for nearly ten years total through many platforms and fandoms, and god, it's nice not to tread on eggshells. It was draining to see posts every day about why you shouldn't RP with so-and-so for flimsy reasons (no joke, someone tried to cancel someone for being 30 and still RPing! She wasn't even interacting with minors at all and would only write with 21+ people!) I understand serious reasons completely, and it should be called out, but god, a majority of the drama I saw was NOT serious at all. Secondly, my age. I feel like I'm too damn old now to RP. Even with age restrictions, I feel surrounded by younger people and am uncomfortable in the environment. (I'm not 30, but I'm still older than most.) Lastly, OCs. I mainly write OCs instead of anything fandom-related, and I don't want to force someone to write my OCs and potentially butcher them. I have zero interest in writing anything established anymore tbh.

If I get bored of one bot I can RP with another one until I get renewed interest in the old bot. If I don’t like its reply or I can’t think of anything I can rewrite its reply. There’s so many COD bots with different scenarios that I can play with I’m never bored. Overall I like rp with bots more than other people.

I do both. Humans have sleeps schedules, not to mention just life in general. Sometimes I have an idea I like, but none of my RP buddies are into the concept. An AI like JAI or Faraday does not have preferences, and are available at any time(bar technical difficulty). I can have them do the stuff I'm into, without having to ask or be judged. I don't have to seek out a community that wants to RP a topic, I can just boot up an LLM and go. Humans are better for extremely long form multicharacter stuff though, especially when there's a community built around an interesting concept that's open to weird shit. The problems are just that humans have human lives, and their own preferences, which may not align with my own life and preferences. Quick edit: I can also be lazy as shit with an AI chatbot and still get responses. Some people want borderline novel responses, or demand perfect adherence to specific formats. I can just do whatever with a bot.
It's usually because the fandom I am is dead or is literal cancer, of course, we should respect anyone's quirks and everything but.. yeah Inactivity is also a motive, nobody is straightforward when losing interest in a RP, they keep you waiting for nothing until they warn about it about what? I'm a very selfish roleplayer. I don't want to ask someone to change their reply several times and respond with 2 paragraphs when they responded with 5. Also I found finding someone who shares interests with me rather difficult \[Yes, I've tried several times, using various different websites.\]
When I rp with people I overthink it and end up taking a solid half hour on each reply, the people I've rp'd with were understanding but it makes me feel guilty. I don't gotta overthink with an AI because it's not a person I'm inconveniencing. Also I like airing my trauma and stuff to bots right before anything horny
I've had bad experiences with actual people and do not feel safe and comfortable because of that, with AI I do feel safe. 😔

i roleplay on discord but the difference is nsfw rp with real people is extremely weird and nsfw with ai is ok because nobody except u knows ur doing that 😭
I am waiting for my actual roleplay partners to respond lmfao. Sometimes I use the AI to test ideas I have so I can plan them out before I offer them up to my roleplay partners :)

I used to rp all the time with real people when I was a kid, but I don’t now because: 1) I hated the pressure of having to write something amazing and put together each message that we sent to each other 2) I hated having to wait for a response 3) I conversely hated the idea of people waiting on me to respond; too much pressure to always be regularly available to rp 4) I was constantly worried about what I was writing: what if it wasn’t interesting enough? What if it wasn’t keeping in the direction the other person wanted the role play to take? Or worst of all, what if they thought what I wrote was *stupid*? I honestly wish I could rp with other people but I have social anxiety even with strangers online. It’s kinda sad, really, but I’m content with rping with bots for now.
Listen, the weird kinks I enjoy are not particularly common, even in this subreddit. Also I do have someone but they’re busy a lot and not always up for it when I am, and vice versa.
Because if I don't like the rp I can just leave without any explanation and no one gets angry! No one ghosts me and they're there whenever I want. And of course, I can make them say what I want (sort of) xD. And also I'm a little freaky too. 🤫

can get so awkward with another person, no consequences in J.ai, you can always just delete a chat if it gets off the rails, or too weird. You can talk to the AI embodiment of whatever character you choose, so it's not like RPing with a stranger just acting like a character. The AI follows the story, and work along with the flow. And if you run into a speedbump where they can't? Just edit your or their message, or just delete a few messages until you get back to where you want. AI is smarter than people sometimes, it can really be anything you want if you mold it correctly. Many other reasons, but idk how to explain anymore.

For me, RP is something very personal, a person must suit me perfectly. I only have one person with whom I can write something like this. But she may be busy or asleep, but I really want to do this :(
I feel a lot more hesitant with my responses and where I want things to go when rping with a person. Plus, a lot of the people I've rp'd with have either abandoned the rp, forget about it entirely, or forget we ever set anything up so it never starts. With a bot, I have a lot more freedom and don't have to worry about how long my response should be/what it should be or anybody seeing my rp, and I can choose the way the scenario progresses and what response I desire. Overall, I'm a lot more comfortable with a bot than an actual person :D
I roleplay with my gf actually, but I usually rp as the characters interacting with her ocs- usually not the other way around bc I suck at making my own characters lul. So I tend to use Janitor to rp crossovers or crack ships tbh. We both been doing other stuff to right now (mostly art) but we will pick up rping when we want. :)

I've had too many instances where I'd write a whole paragraph only for the other person to write what their character would say and do in a span of one line.
I’m autistic so talking to ANYONE I don’t know if I don’t have to is hard for me. Example: Walking down the street: not going to say “hello” or start a conversation. Need to place an order: Will place it and possible small talk but if I have seen them a lot: will be more open. I use sites like this to basically live out a fantasy of talking to people and not be thinking ‘go away’ and mildly panicking.
I also roleplay with real people but I find all the different bots interesting, plus people don't always respond the way you want which is fine. When you go in knowing what you're gonna get with a bot you can kind of control the narrative a bit more and just have fun without worrying what the other person is gonna think....because it's a bot.
i lose interest in a plot so fast that it would be unrealistic to roleplay with a real person because by the time i receive a response from them ive already moved onto to a different idea 😵💫 with a bot it’s nice bc i can move onto a new plot, or maybe even switch back to an old one if i feel like it
My main rp partner (and actual partner) doesn’t share some of my kinks plus he doesn’t want to rp the kinkiest shit imaginable 24/7. So I do it on JanitorAI He’s aware I do it, btw. He uses my bots and I send him weird jllm moments so it’d be weird if he _didn’t_ know
Less pressure on responses I guess. I don’t feel like I have to reply within a set timeframe or do my best writing with every reply; it feels more casual.
I always rped with other persons But I always had the HUGE anxiety of "what if I'm rping wrong ?" "What if I am uninteresting as fuck or cliché ?" "What if my answer is not enough ?" Rping with a bot is juste easier cause... Well... The bots can't really judge neither your roleplay capabilities nor your kinks
for me, rping with another person while in a relationship kinda feels like a form of cheating(especially when it comes to erp), so rping with a bot is my way to still get what i want from a roleplay without feeling guilty about it later

I rp and use ais. Usually I use janitor or Cai when I'm trying different ideas or scenarios out for my oc before I flesh them out for an actual rp. Other times I'm not in the best mental space to do roleplays so I use the ais in the meantime. But I do both! Edit: It's also easy to change the ais replies as opposed to if you end up with a low effort rper!
I don't really uses JAI much anymore but to answer the spirit of the question, I RP with LLMs because real life RP is a logistical nightmare. Very often leads to one side randomly dropping out, taking it into direction one side doesn't want, people trying to godmode etc etc.

I have some tips or something i will tell as someone who rp alot(mostly via text), just to make rp more enjoyable or etc. -make sure y'know what genre of rp you wanna do so you don't get panic or confused. -find a perfect rp partner(could be a friends, best riends, lover and etc.). -make sure to make the character, the plot and the world itself not boring cause that can cause the rp session to died out and get abadoned. -if can, bring an ilustration of the important character (you can draw it your self, comission an artist, or use ai, depends on what is your prefrence). -be patience (unlike bots, human will think first before or while typing to make sure that they type correctly and match the current story. So the best you can do is wait your rp partner with patience).[text rp only] -do be to hurry while typing (typing fastly is cool but its also can cause typo, so just type in normal speed and make sure to double check your message before finally sending it). [text rp only] -have consent( its real people you are rp'ing with. so make sure they are comfortable or fine on what your character gonna do. Ask them if you can do "this" or that" while rp). -pick your ideal amount of rp partner( an rp partner can be only 1 person only to 2 persom only to 3 person only and so on, just make sure you are comfortable with the amount so that you will not feel akward or nervous). -don't worry if english is not you or your rp partner first language, take time to look at the English dictionary to make sure you and your rp partner use the right words, or just use more simple word. -pick the right time (human will have busy and lazy time on tgeir own, make sure to pick times on when you wanna rp where everyone can show up or just mostly) -play time (rp'ing can be lasted on various of time from an hour, 2 hours, 3 hours and more) -get comfy (get you and your rp partner in a comfy place or mood, so all of you would not get very stress or nervous while rp'ing) That all i can give to all of you now(i may be wrong on some of this but hope it help)
It's a bit involved for me to enjoy rp with another person. They have to match my energy, attention to detail, and style for me to get truly invested. Not that the bar is super high for me either, but if I get something like *holds ur hand* it's Gojover.
It's hard to find new partners and also sometimes I just want to do a little story I can drop whenever without having to deal with expectations and such.

I dont rp with irl people anymore because im constantly battling my rp partner about detail, not controlling my character, and a lack of storytelling on their part. I find myself making paragraphs at times and all my partner has to say is, “*smiles*”. I literally had someone do that for way too long and eventually i had to end it. It was exhausting. Not only that, but theyre not always available when i am, so it gets frustrating for the both of us. Plus. I just feel so awkward asking for what i wanna do in RP, be it NSFW or SFW. So i find myself constantly just doing what others wanna do. It kinda sucks.

There are some who don't like to wait or are too shy or maybe have weird imaginations...but also there's the possibility that your rp partner will disagree and choose another RP that you wouldn't like in general or very much have strict rules when it comes to doing RP with real people which limits the fun of it. That's why I chose Janitor ai over a real person to roleplay with. There's also another reason, maybe the person does a low effort on doing roleplay lazily and yours seems very specific or understandable to respond without asking your partner what they are applying to their roleplays.

I’ll give you three reasons One: RP partners (good ones) are few and far between Two: Unlike an actual person, I can actually pick up and continue where I left off whenever Three: I don’t need to worry about if they will respond or if they’re just gonna fuck off and not reply or even try to plan something
well the last rp partners i had either stopped responding, tried grooming me, or was constantly harassing me for replies, soo... as well as the fact that there are just some ways i want the story to go, or at least a general direction, and most bots i roleplay with don't try to make the entire story about them and only their character. it just feels less stressful
I'm just genuinely not comfortable NSFW roleplaying with real people. I love roleplaying with my friends, but NSFW stuff for me stays private. I've been groomed multiple times through ERP, so having an AI alternative is so much better

I used to rp with real people, but real people have historically never accepted my boundaries within rp. I've had some good rp partners in the past but overwhelmingly it's just open ai 3 set to 100 tokens and temperature set to 2. Still I pine for one rp partner of mine who was the best yandere ever and I do miss him everyday (I had three rps going with him at the same time, all with different kinds of spice). The site went down and we never spoke again 😭
Because people don’t rp the same and I’m sort of particular about it. When I write, I *write*. I don’t want a; “she smiled back and nodded.” after I wrote a whole paragraph plus some. And, I just want to be rawdogged and I feel like it would borderline be sexual harassment if I messaged my rp partner at 3, like, “wake up, I want my character have some fictional dick.”

I used to do online RP with real people, that's actually how I met my wife. Now that I'm married though any sort of NSFW RP with another human doesn't feel right, at least for me. I still enjoying writing and RPing NSFW fiction though, so working with a robot is a good substitute. Plus with humans you'd often have long waits, they'd have different tastes and interests than you, you couldn't just ask for a new reply if you didn't like the last one. There's a lot of ways where an AI is more convenient. Plus if you're into something weird you can get as strange as you like when it's just between you and a computer. Computer isn't going to judge you, at least not if you've got a good jailbreak.
I do RP with others, but I can genuinely relax when I'm chatting with a computer, because when I'm doing it with another person I'm constantly worried about their triggers and making sure the other person isn't uncomfortable and that we're both having a good time. A bot has no feelings. A bot follows a script and doesn't get offended when I change it. Not to mention a bot can't snitch on you when you unload a vent to just talk it through and piece your feelings together. A bot will never replace person to person RPing and the collaborative experience that comes with it, but it is definitely a lot less anxiety inducing to chat with a bot.

I always felt too shy and embarrassed to RP with an actual person. I did it once and I hated it cuz they would take the story somewhere I didn't like or have their character be OP or sum. Now I'm just a mf who either makes fluff, angst, or smut with bots.

My reason is because people can be INSANELY fucking toxic from my experiences……or demand I make myself to there unrealistic expectations or do things that I am not just in general comfortable with. It has just driven me to the point where I just don’t find the fun in rp’ing with a person anymore.

personally I am extremely afraid of talking to people online because childhood trauma!!! I have no interest in rping with real people or making online friends. it’s terrifying imo.
Because I’m usually too busy irl to even get just one guy friend. That in itself makes it so much harder to get a boyfriend or any significant relationship other than friends. Now add on social anxiety, autism (can’t pick up social cues, others’ emotions, tone.), adhd (will talk nonstop if a topic of personal interest is brought up, if not will probably forget what was said in a few hours.). I don’t use social media like Snap or ig, at most I use reddit and Discord (if that even counts). Lastly I don’t use dating apps or anything like that because most people are just looking for a quick one and done, in which with how oblivious I am to people’s intentions and that I have never dated before I would not know if I was being manipulated or something.
Ghosting, no fear of judgment, ghosting, no worry about either of us not replying fast enough, ghosting, nobody trying to take it awkwardly OOC, bots don't ask for pics or get bored, oh and I should mention the ghosting.
I RP with real people too, plus it's how I started out before going to AI. I like both because of their own unique quirks
I actually used to but I stopped because I tend to go for very dead dove topics that can be touchy with real people. I still do it occasionally though with people I’ve been on and off with for years🤷♀️

No worrying if the bot likes the story or is enjoying itself. I grew up RPing with real people. But I stopped because I wanted to write actual stories. Now I can do both thanks to J.AI.
Me and my best friend still RP, in fact we'll usually tell each other all the details on our bot adventures. But some of my tastes don't mesh with hers and vice versa. That's where wonderful J.AI pops in for us. I get to RP with characters she doesn't really care for, and I don't have to search for people that enjoy RP AND like the same, usually messed up or background, characters that I do. Plus the typical literacy or vagueness that most people RP with when I write 3-4 paragraphs is painful. So I end up sticking to what I know.

1. The wait is agonizing. For me and them both, cause I also sometimes struggle to send a decent response and spend days procrastinating. 2. I dunno many places to go for that, tbh. 3. You can't "swipe to next" in real RP. Both a con and pro, tbh. 4. Things I want are overly specific 5. I have to adjust to their writing style and mimic their replies, in a way. Are they casual, semi-lit, lit, novella? Will they like the way I write? Is it too much, too little? I overthink. 6. Doing NSFW RP with strangers? Yeah, I'll pass. 7. Anxiety.
Because I’m fucking weird to be honest. Not trying to sound like an emo badass but I’m not interested in the erp shit, I like putting bots through horrid and painful scenarios I left [C.AI](https://C.AI) because of their violence block, and the fact that they are treating their community like shit, acting like they are working to fix that while they’re actually just banning violence. I don’t know. It would just feel weird doing it with a real person. I like seeing what the bot decides and how it works in scenarios.
Because the only reason I use this site, is not just because I want to sex with a robot.
