Teddy Roosevelt was actually based when it came to Jews. [Several rough riders were Jews](https://www.ifcj.org/news/stand-for-israel-blog/teddy-roosevelt-and-his-jewish-rough-riders), he was a vocal Zionist, and [he had a bunch of Jewish cops, who he appointed in ny, troll a white nationalist.](https://www.theodorerooseveltcenter.org/Research/Digital-Library/Record?libID=o305760)
He explicitly referred to zionism as a colonial project. You don't have to pretend he gave a shit about indigineity. You can call your own zionism whatever you want but you can't deny Herzl's was based on a general colonialist worldview that was common at the time. That's just historical revisionism.
The Zionist Congress specifically rejected becoming colonial when they rejected the Uganda plan and stated that they only wanted to end colonialism in their land reestablish a state. You might want to learn since Zionism has always been an indigenous movement
He gave up all his family, and life and money for this. So you can't say it was just "for his own pleasure". Also he didn't see the country with his own eyes so...
so why was he racist? In his book he didn't even thought there will be a problem with the Arabs living there, he thought they will just live with us peacefully
Roosevelt was a fascinating character. Especially his thoughts on Jews in the early 1900s. Definitely not the worst line of thinking at the time but also, not the best.
He had some fascinating opinions, very rooted to the time he lived in. My main focus is when he became the Police Commissioner of NYC in the 1890s, and he stated that Jews were "of weak physique, and not yet far enough away from their centuries of oppression and degradation to make good policemen". Overall he was a very avid pro-Jewish president, just the concept of the white race and the subgroups of said racial group were prevalent in his thoughts as they were in many white Americans at the time.
I've been meaning to write an article about this, but I feel like this is kind of the story of Hanukkah. Hear me out:
On one side of the story of Hanukkah is the Maccabees, aka the Jews. On the other side is the Hellenizing Greeks, whose classical civilization directly inspired the American founders. The founders outright said when they created American democracy that they were inspired by the democracies of ancient Greece and Rome.
So Jewish Americans are an identity that essentially combines both sides of the Hanukkah story. Idk, I feel like I need to think about it a little more, but I feel like there's an essay in there somewhere.
Named my third child and only son (4yo) Theodor (Theo) after these two. “Man in the Arena” is my favorite speech of all time and then of course Herzl is the man too. Hebrew name is Tzion Gideon. My son is an absolute stud and is living up to both names.
Who out here genuinely describes themselves as a Jewish American over American Jew at this point? Not asking with bite, just genuinely curious as to why statehood outranks personage. A good shabbos to us all.
Theodore was the last great leader we had. As with all president's, he was a complex chap who had to tow the line of his virtues and politics. Overall a fantastic human.
nah both theodores were cringe. one committed genocide (Roosevelt) and the other was Secular and responsible for the backwardsness Israel is in right now (Secularism is cringe and Palestinians are our blood brothers, we shouldnt be fighting them)

Rosevelt and Herz were both pretty based ngl
And both were mad lads.
Theodor Herzl was a racist colonialist.
Herzl supported indigenous rights of Jews and was opposed to racist colonialism. Are you a Jew hating bigot?

I said nothing about any of those things.
so why was he racist? In his book he didn't even thought there will be a problem with the Arabs living there, he thought they will just live with us peacefully
Apart from advocating for manifest destiny 2 against Palestinians like they weren't humans who mattered, you mean?

And now my ass hurts.

Oh I was thinking of the other prominent, Jewish Theodore.
Who out here genuinely describes themselves as a Jewish American over American Jew at this point? Not asking with bite, just genuinely curious as to why statehood outranks personage. A good shabbos to us all.
thats just kind of the term, it doesnt put statehood first, only first.
I think you of it this way. Jewish American, Black American , Arab American. Not for any reason. Just t bgg e way I've always said it.
I've said both, but I don't have a connotation nor preference for either. I say I'm a Southern Jew.
Yeah! Southern Jew Hi-5!!!
One of us, one of us r/SouthernJews
Not sure we need our own sub, but I'm game :)
Nobody says American Jew… that sounds like the title of some lonely islands skit or something
Sung to the tune of American Girl by Tom Petty I can almost hear it now
Yesss
That is a good answer
And Theodore vodka.
Three, with Brother Theodore
Hell yes.
If you will it, Dude, it is no dream
This is genius.
we need to use Jewish magic to make a clone of Teddy to run for president
[there is a third](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Kaczynski)
Theodore was the last great leader we had. As with all president's, he was a complex chap who had to tow the line of his virtues and politics. Overall a fantastic human.
