No, I don't think that Sukuna will begin the merger. I think he loses in shinjuku.
The merger might happen regardless, rules will be bypassed. And I think if it does, it won't be what everyone is expecting. Not a final boss battle. But think something would happen to the world and cursed energy in general. So it might be something that effects jujutsu long term

I think he's letting everybody show their abilities and look good because something really terrible is about to happen to them.
I've had the theory that the merger can be forced to start by breaking the binding vow, Kenjaku himself said that the culling games do not have a real "master" so giving Megumi "the authority to start the merger" seems weird, it should happen regardless when the culling game ends, and the culling games ends when all the players are killed.
And why is that not possible?
You forgetting Rules can be added to the CG? Make one to TP all the players to X location and he can open a domain and be done with it.
Or we just have a chapter montage of him tracking them down and killing them like ants.
The point above anything else is that Sukuna wants a fight. Maki and Yuji, the objects of his desire, just showed up on the battlefield. He's going to handle that first. Yuji has to die to start the merger....

My suspicion is that Sukuna has accrued enough points to add a rle himself, so he'll remove the requirement to kill all players - but that Megumi will start the merger though twisting it instead of forcing all of Japan to merge with Tengen, Tengen will be merged with just Yuji (basically an inverted Plasma Star Vessel where Yuji contains Tengen much the same way he contained Sukuna).
MHA was one too, but it never got a formal announcement either. Series tends to get something less formal when there’s a couple chapters left these days

I really, really think this is the penultimate arc. I think the Sukuna fight is gojng to end, and then the Merger will be the final arc.
The Sukuna fight would be difficult to end in a way that feels like the end of the series. It’s not impossible, just tricky at this point.
My prediction is that Shinjuku Showdown ends with Sukuna triggering the Merger but Megumi fucking it up, overriding the Merger's parameters (as sole authority) and forcing Tengen into Yuji.
Then the final fight will be Yuji+ fighting with Tengen's power at his full disposal to go all out against Sukuna.
I want sukuna to win, the merger to happen and the jujutsu sorcerer forced to hide then reveal that Gojo has been reincarnated as baby. Jujutsu Kaisen part 1 ended, part 2 focused on Yuji and Kusakabe raising child Gojo to face Sukuna in the one last final fight in the future.
Jujutsu no ko, it’s a sequel series that flashes forward a few years, Yuji and nobara (she’s back with no explanation whatsoever) have twins while living in the new heian era ruled by Sukuna, the children are reincarnations of Gojo and Geto (who are aware they’ve been reincarnated some how) and they have to raise both of them to save the world, one day when the twins are 5 nobara disappears, and Yuji is killed, not by Sukuna but just a random fan of his (maybe urame, it’s not really important) this kickstarts the twins lust for vengeance, and at some point they may or may not become some what romantically invested in one another.

For the moment shinjuku is 26-27 chapters, but CG and shibuya are 50+ chapters, it’s not really the same amount of chapter

100%. Its going to end before chapter 300. I honestly dont think there is going to even be a merger and this is the final battle. We still probably have 6-8 months left tho
Hmm I think the goal of this arc is to separate Megumi and Sukuna. That will definitely happen. I'm not sure though if Sukuna dies here. I have full faith on Megumi and Yuji VS Sukuna happening so I can see if they kill him later since Megumi won't be in a position to battle after separation.
I saw a response from Gege about this earlier this week but I don't know if it's real, but allegedly Gege said that it's possible he will finish the story before the end of 2024.
