I kinda hope to see the resurgence of adventure maps, redstone minigames (missile wars my beloved), one command blocks (although data packs are objectively better).
I would think super smash mobs would have been still popular, but ive heard nothing of it since I played it way back in 2018(?) and even then it was treated like an obscure game tucked away in mineplex.

No. The creators initially started porting it to Bedrock, realised they were making more than twice there than in Java, and then decided to cancel Java for the money.
While that phrasing makes it sound terrible, that's pretty much the truth. Unsupervised, irresponsible children make up a significantly large amount of Bedrock's playerbase, because Minecraft is considered a "kids game" and Bedrock is available on pretty much everything.
As a Hive player, I can confirm 80% of the users on Hive are children, who will basically immediately go buy the Hive+ rank because cool.
At the same time, is a server that is still decently guarded and moderation jumps pretty fast to help you.
Which is true bedrock is just better optimised than Java due to the coding language it’s made in so it would be cheaper to maintain the same amount of players on bedrock than Java and they can monetise the shit out of bedrock legally and according to the eula

Unfortunately it's all but been lost to The Hive Java edition, as Bedrock edition is full of children that don't know how to play Trouble in Terrorist Town. Considering the gamemode has a karma system that bans you for random killing, this would basically make it impossible to get a lobby in.

I know that small servers exist everywhere. I'm saying no BIG servers exist as competition anymore. For example this server you mentioned has 4 players online right now.
Very fun server, still its biggest issue imo is player retention, high level gameplay gets boring really fast. And not even sweating it you can get to lvl 105 in 2-3 months
Not really. There are still popular smps like hermitcraft, lifesteal smp, dream smp. There are also many other kinds. Its just that hypixel is the most popular mini games server.

Ironically enough by enforcing rules to make the game more child friendly, even children stopped playing. Do these people not know kids play FPS and fighting games? They're the ones who break the rules the most.
I personally like Hypixel more than others, but it doesn't have very interesting Hide and Seek. Both MinePlex and HiveMC had great implementations of it, also - Splegg, Cake Wars, The Bridges...
Honestly hypixel has done really well with maintaining a wide variety of games, and while some games dont get many updates anymore, they still sometimes do such as the recent mega walls update.
I am still forever gonna be coping with KOTH not making it out of the prototype lobby, it was such a fantastic game
I'm cryin in the club. It's MCSG (Minecraft Survival Games). It was the biggest and original Hunger Games server. BajanCanadian and most of the big Hunger Games channels played exclusively on that until Badlion came out.
I for sure miss it as well, personally starting it back in 2012 it was so hard closing it based on the situations at the time out of our control. We had over 4.2 million users enjoyed MCSG played our servers! Glad it was the "first" memories for many thus spawning other multiplayer servers. Cheers.
Yesterday mineplex completely shut down. Both the java and bedrock servers and even their website shut down with no warning. It was confirmed by one of the discord server's mods that the server is truly gone for good.
Most of these servers started and were most active when I was in High School. I'm now out of college and all of them are gone (from Java Edition at least).
The Hive died? Guess I really have been out of the loop. I never played on those sorts of servers much, sometimes tho. I have one nostalgic memory of Bedwars.

Yeah it was the best! P sure it was only on mineplex. I saw some ppl try to replicate it but it wasn’t anywhere near as good

Unsure when you last played but the 2.0 with talent tree and archetype etc released like a good year ago, it's awesome imo.

Pvp.sc closed down a while ago. There's been a revival effort but not enough people know about it so the player count is low to nonexistent.
Cubrcraft is the last surviving good large java server that isn't hypixel, minehut is full of 8 year old lifesteal nerds.
