We’re at DFW waiting to fly out. Gonna make a trip to the Petersen museum and whatever else we find. Sucks that we’re gonna miss the race but oh well. Life goes on
If you have kids, the California Science Center is fantastic — shame you just missed out on seeing the space shuttle. Also recommend checking out the Griffith Observatory
Endeavour was taken off display at the end of December. They’re building a new exhibit hall for her that will allow her to be displayed upright in the launch-ready configuration; mounted to the external tank and SRBs. Technically you can still see her, she’s parked outside the back of the building, there’s just a heavy duty wrap covering the shuttle. Probs won’t be officially back on display for a couple years.
I’m a huge space nerd and was planning on flying down for a joint NASCAR/Endeavour weekend, but when I found out she wouldn’t be on display in 2024, I made a panic trip to LA in early December. Glad I did, I would’ve missed both the shuttle *and* the Clash if I had flown in tonight as originally planned.
We were there, there were tons more! I’m thinking 4k-5k or more… there were students on one side and reg. Fans on the other. I was down by the track but there were plenty of ppl in the 2nd floor seats and 3rd floor too.
After I posted that they showed another view of the stands that looked like more people were on the one side than the earlier scenes I saw when the race started which probably wasn't the entire seating area. So I could accept you saying you were there and think it was 4k to 5k - it might have been. But still a sparse crowd. But with the schedule change and the weather I'm not that surprised. I just remember the first two years they had decent crowds (at least on TV looked that way) - maybe 50,000 or more. I know that place holds a lot more than that for football but I don;t recall what the attendance was previously for the Clash just that it looked like a lot more people.
I really enjoyed watching it two years ago; because it was new and different. I don't think it's worth doing five years in a row there. But that's just one opinion.
Luckily we’re staying with a friend so don’t have to worry about the cost of a hotel. Was easier just to take the flight and go do something rather than trying to cancel
There isn't any other choice. NASCAR made the right call. You weren't getting the race in otherwise.
I live in Santa Barbara County and Sun-Tues is rain, rain and more rain. LA has the same forecast. This is a big storm for SoCal. It's not a thunderstorm at Daytona and you have potential for clear skies the next day.
My local schools are closed on Monday. Certain areas in my county are under evacuation orders and warnings for 2-3 days starting tonight.
Also, you can be disappointed and frustrated with the decision and still recognize it was the right decision considering the incoming storm.
Stay safe everyone.
I am in Ventura county and I can tell you there is no way they were going to run the race tomorrow. It is better to run it tonight than wait till middle of next week sometime.
I'm not a fan but a local who wanted to go and just found out today because I was waiting until the last minute to get tickets due to the weather. Guess I should have paid more attention.
I’d be very pissed. But if the decision wasn’t made to race tonight there would’ve been no race due to impending weather. NASCAR got it right Luckily they are offering refunds!!
It honestly was great! Lots of fans that might not have otherwise been able to go. :)
We got our tickets on seat geek so they said they are working on it. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼
I totally see your point, but you can’t plan for weather that far in advance. Maybe it was due to TV time that Fox had allotted for the Clash at the time of scheduling. There are so many components you have to factor in. The logistics for teams aren’t any easier.
The problem is that NASCAR doesn't have a lot of authority to extend the race weekend. Trucks are probably booked to start clearing the track around Tuesday or Wednesday, and their contract is a lot tighter than it is with a permanent track
Not everyone has the means to spend several hundred dollars to stay longer, adjust your return flight, extra (overpriced) food, etc.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t be upset or maybe even mad but this is the hand that was dealt in order to get the race in at all.
It’s a lose-lose for NASCAR and Fox. No matter what they do, move it to tonight or wait for the rain to break on Tuesday or Wednesday - they lose.
I think we got the best of the bad options.
No but you can plan to get there earlier a day or two. Surely there would be other activities in the area that you could do on the days prior to the supposed schedule.
Maybe but again what does that have to do with anything. Very few people are going to plan to fly in early and do other activities just in case an event is run sooner than expected. Stop trying to fault the consumer for missing a scheduled event.
If I'm not supposed to be to work until 9:00 I'm not just going to turn up at 6:00 with other plans just in case my boss changes his mind.
I get all that. Just saying how it’s it actually different than the scenario you gave. One you have a choice to see the race if you wish to. The other you have no chance.
This is the storm that caused the change in plans. This is zoomed out. For perspective its around 100 miles from the blue dot to the race track (near the LA Dot). All this is coming in and more is off screen.
This is the radar as of 7:40pm CA time.

What you or anyone else upset about travel plans is missing, is that it will be impossible to run a race tomorrow, or Monday
The storm that is forecast there is going to cause life-threatening flooding. 100% chance of heavy rain
I'm not upset, I'm curious.
Also as someone from Michigan who regularly deala with forecasts of worst blizzard ever from weather people that have fizzled out a lot, I can only imagine how pissed everyone will be.
They can predict these type of rain events fairly well. They see the storm out there and the jet stream is currently sitting on Southern Central Coast and LA County right now. The jet stream is the storm's freeway. I am not saying they are perfect, but they are close enough it isn't going to be dry Sunday afternoon.
And what makes this storm unique - its a traditional winter pacific storm that picked up some rain friends from Hawaii (I am not joking the storm is sucking tropical moisture from near Hawaii) So the rainfall is double-triple what is should be. Growing up, we called this storm the "Pineapple Express". We could be seeing half a year's worth of rain in 2 days.
In 1998, one of these storms caused major problems. Its the only weather related school closed day I ever had. And school was closed for 2 consecutive days. Because the power lines were down and mudslides blocked many roads.
> Pineapple express is exactly what they are calling this. Dude is going on about snow storms, but there is a huge difference in 6" of snow in a day and 6" of rain on a day.
they dont fizzle out, they move more north or south which changes the flow of air over the surrounding lakes. They're telling you the worse it could be, not exactly what it will be.
Chalk up another man yells at clouds post to ol NASCAR subreddit. A person just asking how mad people would be in a situation that they're not going through, but just trying to start a complaining session about......weather we can't control?
A friend of mine was flying in tonight, luckily he heard the news prior to getting on it so decided to cancel his plans. Still out the air fare and hotels but looks like he might get tickets refunded.
Once missed the Gatorade twin 125’s with my dad. Our initial flight got a 30 minute delay on take off. We were running to the gate and watched the pilot walk the catwalk to our layover flight and then they shut the door on us. Stuck in AZ for the night with no love from any one. That was a rough one. Still have yet to make it to Daytona for a race.
After going to Chicago and flying from Europe, I can assure you that I’d be more pissed getting there and soaked to maybe or maybe not see a race. Yeah it sucks losing money on flight/hotel but being at a race in the rain is miserable
TBF Anyone who plans to spend money to go to an auto-race does so knowing that weather is a risk. Finding out that a race is moved up a day to avoid the weather IS unusual, though, but NASCAR did the right thing to get the event in, especially considering that weather forecast for the week.
Hopefully those who missed out on the live event were able to make other plans.
I not pretentious nor an F1 fan. But I’m not spending money to watch a practice session halfway across the country. I WILL pay to go to my local track to watch the weekend racers. Check YOUR pretentiousness.
Judging by Gibbs and Lagano's post race argument, it wasn't just a practice session to the driver's even if it was a no points race. They still drive hard and care about winning, it's the way racers race. Even if you don't care about the event, they did.
But complaining about a track because it isn't your style and saying it shouldn't be there is sort of a gatekeeping type of opinion and the things pretentious F1 fans do in my opinion.
Just saying, we should all like good racing. And just because you won't give the track a chance doesn't mean it was bad racing or racers don't care.
Also, throwing someone's argument back in their face doesn't always work. It's the equivalent of saying "no u" and coming up with no good response.
OK so you don’t think it’s irresponsible of a sport with thousands of fans who have to travel to see an event and they’re missing it because it’s earlier than scheduled
No. Would you rather we wait until Thursday or Friday to race while people are at work? Those people wouldn't have stayed if they had to spend an extra 6 days there either. This was the only available option
Yeah, when you move an event up the crowd diminishes, especially with 6 hour notice. But we weren't going to race this if we didn't move it up. They wouldn't have came back because they need to get the track up quite quickly.
Did you seriously just suggest not running the race would be better than running it early? Some people never fail to suprise me
Everyone who purchased a ticket is getting a refund. How can they be any more fair to the fans?
This is the dumbest comment in this subs history. There is no way you’re being serious right now. All the work that went into putting this together and you would rather they cancel than move it up a day and actually get it in? The cost and time for all the drivers and teams to get there and you would really rather everyone waste their time then run it when they can actually race.
You're throwing around that term "irresponsible" like you know what it means. Clearly you don't.
They had to make a decision of some kind, whether that's:
Cancel it altogether and disappoint just about 100% of people
Postpone it until "some unknown day" and keep people waiting and incurring expenses they didn't anticipate to wait it out, disappointing close to 100% of people
Run it early and disappoint some people who couldn't change their plans in time to be there, but the others who could make it are happy at least.
If you're the king of NASCAR, why wouldn't you pick that third option?
So, you completely dodged my response. Great.
I'll ask again: If you're the king of NASCAR this last few days, why wouldn't you do exactly what NASCAR did?
I have been saying that all day. I only even heard they moved the race a few hours ago. And fox isn't playing it. They have some dumb college basketball or something on. Boooooooooo Nascar, booooooooooooo. I'm sure it's not a small amount of people that missed the race by it getting moved up 24hours.
I hear ya. When did they give the word they were going to reschedule? I didn't hear about it until today. Seems like they could have done that a little sooner. Can't recall Nascar doing it this way before. Hope everyone enjoyed the race! Had to catch it late, but I'm just glad they are racing.
I always wondered what people did when the Daytona 500 is postponed to a Monday because of rain, but they already had flights booked for Monday morning or afternoon
If it’s any consolation, you weren’t going to see it anyways. In today’s age of delayed and cancelled flights, I wouldn’t make any plans to fly in so close to an event.
No spoilers please, but what happened? I thought the Clash was Sunday? Haven't been able to keep up with news due to work and was just dvring everything to watch on my next day off
Apparently there's a huge storm coming in so they almost certainly wouldn't be racing Sunday or Monday. So salvaged what they could by racing Saturday night.
I mean it started raining here in LA about 2 hours ago (around 10:30pm) and it’s not supposed to stop until Wednesday at the earliest so they wouldn’t have been able to go to the race anyway
That was me. Not mad, was able to credit the flights and hotel room. I’m not out any money, I’ll just use that for another race this year. Glad they got it in and some people got to go
I might’ve been pissed when I was younger, but you have to roll with things out of your control. Most people probably weren’t flying to LA just for a day, they can still enjoy a vacation weekend in LA. If you’re making a casual day trip, it’s probably not the only trip you’re making soon and probably not a huge deal.
We have a daughter at USC and we we’re walking to the USC - Oregon St basketball game at 3:30. Checked Jayski, saw the Clash was moved up and just kept walking 10 blocks to the Race. They let everyone in free, general seating. Ate the basketball tickets and bought my seats from Vivid seats- so I don’t know about a refund. But I saw the race from some really good seats. So I am happy.
The Colosseum was not prepared for the show to be a day early. Limited gate workers and very limited concessions. (Huge line at the King Taco truck)
There were not “500-to 1500 “ fans. there were several thousand, but that place is huge, so hard to tell . People were swarming the 1 customer service girl about refunds . But most people were just rolling with it.
Rumor had if it was rained out Sunday- the rain date was Wednesday. The teams said “ we aint sticking around for that”
I mean, it is what it is. I was about to leave the house to go to the airport when the news came over. Sucks, but would have been worse to not get the race in.
36 years of watching NASCAR and first time I ever saw a race moved early vs late, lost out on several Monday races because we were there Sunday onsite, and didn't get refunded. Call was for rain thru like Wed, so probably wouldn't have been run(due to track location and stadium), but we also wouldn't have had to listen to the arrogant comments of who happened to cross the finish line first... but as the saying goes, he'll never have a Championship Trophy... there's always that...
We’re at DFW waiting to fly out. Gonna make a trip to the Petersen museum and whatever else we find. Sucks that we’re gonna miss the race but oh well. Life goes on
Did the Petersen Museum today. Incredible!
Gonna be much better now that we don’t have to somewhat rush it
If you have kids, the California Science Center is fantastic — shame you just missed out on seeing the space shuttle. Also recommend checking out the Griffith Observatory
The LA County Natural History Museum is also fantastic, if you're into that sort of thing. Also, hit up an In N Out and order "animal style" :D
Alright as an east coaster what’s animal style
Burger w fried onions
Don’t have kids but that was definitely a possibility. What do you mean by “just missed out”?
Endeavour was taken off display at the end of December. They’re building a new exhibit hall for her that will allow her to be displayed upright in the launch-ready configuration; mounted to the external tank and SRBs. Glad I did, I would’ve missed both the shuttle *and* the Clash if I had flown in tonight as originally planned.
Oh yeah my buddy was telling me they’re building the entire housing around it. We may still go to the museum tomorrow since we have extra time
It was surprising nice considering they don’t charge for admission
Oh I didn’t know that. Might make it a definite visit for us then
Ya'll twos buddies now!
Petersen is great. Pay the extra money for "The Vault". It's the best part if you like race cars.
Definitely going to!
This cannot be emphasized enough, PAY FOR THE VAULT! Every car from every TV show is there
If it is any consolation, you're not the only fans missing the race. It looks like there's maybe 500 to 1500 people in the stands.
We were there, there were tons more! I’m thinking 4k-5k or more… there were students on one side and reg. Fans on the other. I was down by the track but there were plenty of ppl in the 2nd floor seats and 3rd floor too.

There was more than that, cmon!
There were tens of thousands at least
As someone there, it was easily 15k. Probably more
Yeah whoever thinks it was under 1000 didn’t stand in line for beer today
Thanks I was there too and I thought way more than 5k, glad you saw what I did.
Sorry you are missing the race. Was curious if people are doing what you are and just going out and spending money even if it isn't at the race
Luckily we’re staying with a friend so don’t have to worry about the cost of a hotel. Was easier just to take the flight and go do something rather than trying to cancel
Are you able to get the tickets refunded or something?
Yeah according to everything I’ve seen, they’ll refund automatically
That's good.
Yes. This is nascar, not F1
I am not the biggest car fan, but I enjoyed this museum. Lots of cars from movies.
Be sure to do the vault tour there!
Ne carddu k the reason why they moved the race up to today is due to the rain flags incoming thay could lead to potential life threatening flooding.
Your frustration is justified, but if they didn't race tonight, they probably weren't going to race at all.
There isn't any other choice. NASCAR made the right call. You weren't getting the race in otherwise. I live in Santa Barbara County and Sun-Tues is rain, rain and more rain. LA has the same forecast. Refreshing to see an emotionally mature adult on the internet. Well-done!
I am in Ventura county and I can tell you there is no way they were going to run the race tomorrow. It is better to run it tonight than wait till middle of next week sometime.
I’m just sad because I didnt know it was being changed to Saturday so I totally missed it. The NASCAR widget on iOS still says the race is the 4th
It's a bug storm for anyone. 6"+ of potential rainfall is really bad anywhere.
Was supposed to fly out yesterday but canceled cuz the weather looked terrible. Glad nascar is refunding the ticket cost
Plus parking for those who reserved through park wiz .
I would bet money there are oblivious fans who were already in LA and had no idea it was moved. Possibly even still have no idea lol
god. couldn’t imagine pulling up and the only people there are tearing things down to return the place to a football field
Bro I didn’t even know it got moved until a league mate in discord told me
I hardly ever watch practice, if I didn’t I may have not know until later on lol
I'm not a fan but a local who wanted to go and just found out today because I was waiting until the last minute to get tickets due to the weather. Guess I should have paid more attention.
You weren't going to see a race anyway at least now you get to see one on TV
I’d be very pissed. But if the decision wasn’t made to race tonight there would’ve been no race due to impending weather. NASCAR got it right Luckily they are offering refunds!!
It honestly was great! Lots of fans that might not have otherwise been able to go. :) We got our tickets on seat geek so they said they are working on it. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼
If they had planned to have fans tonight from the start, more people would probably have got in yesterday and not waited til today.
I totally see your point, but you can’t plan for weather that far in advance. Maybe it was due to TV time that Fox had allotted for the Clash at the time of scheduling. There are so many components you have to factor in. The logistics for teams aren’t any easier.
How would it be any different if you flew out tomorrow and it was postponed to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or cancelled totally?
You can always extend your trip, but you can’t get there earlier lmao
The problem is that NASCAR doesn't have a lot of authority to extend the race weekend. Trucks are probably booked to start clearing the track around Tuesday or Wednesday, and their contract is a lot tighter than it is with a permanent track
Totally get that! I was really just answering the question to say that it is in fact different than a race being postponed to a later date.
Not everyone has the means to spend several hundred dollars to stay longer, adjust your return flight, extra (overpriced) food, etc. I’m not saying I wouldn’t be upset or maybe even mad but this is the hand that was dealt in order to get the race in at all.
His whole point is that at least some people would be able to extend. The problem is that no people have a time machine to be there earlier.
It’s a lose-lose for NASCAR and Fox. No matter what they do, move it to tonight or wait for the rain to break on Tuesday or Wednesday - they lose. I think we got the best of the bad options.
I agree. But I don't watch until they post it to YouTube so it doesn't much matter to me lol.
No but you can plan to get there earlier a day or two. Surely there would be other activities in the area that you could do on the days prior to the supposed schedule.
Maybe but again what does that have to do with anything. Very few people are going to plan to fly in early and do other activities just in case an event is run sooner than expected. Probably be easier to extend and or rebook for a Monday flight than be early.
That’s not possible with the massive storm that’s about to hit LA for the next 5 days
I never would have given myself such a narrow window in the first place, flights get delayed and canceled all the time.
Oh I'd be renting a plane to fly into the storm and fistfight the clouds or something else of equally reasonable nature. It's the weather...
This is the storm that caused the change in plans. This is zoomed out. For perspective its around 100 miles from the blue dot to the race track (near the LA Dot). if you have travel insurance will they give you anything back when you cancel the flights and hotels?
Depends on the policy.

There wasn’t going to be a race tomorrow anyway, there’s 5 inches of rain in the forecast over the next 2 days

What happened? I think I missed a lot of news lately Edit: found out it's because of threats of flooding
why was the race moved?
Not just rain, historic rain which will most likely cause a ton of flooding.
Rain in the forecast

Imagine if NASCAR had stayed with their original plan of not having any fans Saturday.
Doesn’t anyone follow sports reporters on Twitter. How did you not know lol. I knew within minutes of it happening.
If it were Daytona…yeah I’d be pissed. But an exhibition race? In L.A.? Who buys tickets and flys across the country for that? 🤷♂️
I actually would have if I didn't have other plans this weekend. No need to be pretentious about racing. We aren't the F1 fandom.
I not pretentious nor an F1 fan. But I’m not spending money to watch a practice session halfway across the country. I WILL pay to go to my local track to watch the weekend racers. Check YOUR pretentiousness.

This is extremely irresponsible of nascar
No it's not
OK so you don’t think it’s irresponsible of a sport with thousands of fans who have to travel to see an event and they’re missing it because it’s earlier than scheduled
Blud this race would’ve been postponed into the week, that is the alternative lol
Probably cancelled all together
No. Would you rather we wait until Thursday or Friday to race while people are at work? Those people wouldn't have stayed if they had to spend an extra 6 days there either. This was the only available option

Of course there are. What are you even trying to say here.
They woulda missed it either way. Dont be a dumbass
It's going to rain for 3 straight days.
Then they should cancel the damn thing instead of run it early if it’s gonna rain it out, then cancel it and line them up a different way
Did you seriously just suggest not running the race would be better than running it early? Some people never fail to suprise me Everyone who purchased a ticket is getting a refund. How can they be any more fair to the fans?
"It's irresponsible of NASCAR to make some fans miss the race, they should have made everybody miss it!"
Are you high?
No she is just dumb ass
No, but you are rude
This is dumbest fucking take I’ve seen in a long time.

You really aren’t smart. This comment makes that abundantly clear.
Honestly public safety comes first.

I know what it means and I'm upset the way nascar keeps changing the rules whenever they want. They have made the sport less entertaining
Race was in FS1.
Right. It still said it was on Fox online. It was nonetheless a poorly rescheduled race.
Everywhere I saw it said FS1. Think they did the best they could given the circumstances. No ideal, but it is what it is. Can’t control the weather.
I hear ya. When did they give the word they were going to reschedule? I didn't hear about it until today. Seems like they could have done that a little sooner. Can't recall Nascar doing it this way before. Hope everyone enjoyed the race! Had to catch it late, but I'm just glad they are racing.
What happened?
My flight was for tomorrow morning, returning tomorrow night (short flight within the state).
Blame the weather. You would be just as mad if it was postponed
Damn, that sucks all around. Thanks tho, gotta go check my recordings now
I mean it started raining here in LA about 2 hours ago (around 10:30pm) and it’s not supposed to stop until Wednesday at the earliest so they wouldn’t have been able to go to the race anyway
How would the be different of they postponed it. You would have flowm out, and then not been able to see the race anyway
Refundable tickets always man. Anyway probably not very cuz the weather is gonna be shitty and it would have saved me the time.
I’m just happy that some of the folks in attendance got to attend their first NASCAR race for free! That’s one way to create a fan for life for sure.
(Huge line at the King Taco truck) There were not “500-to 1500 “ fans. there were several thousand, but that place is huge, so hard to tell . People were swarming the 1 customer service girl about refunds . But most people were just rolling with it. Rumor had if it was rained out Sunday- the rain date was Wednesday. The teams said “ we aint sticking around for that”
Honestly anything like this that can be affected by weather would be a good idea to purchase travel insurance.
I feel like if you missed it maybe they could give discounts to a later race with the refund of corse
