To me, it makes sense that they wouldn't be doing a local advertising push right now since grandstand tickets have been sold out since November. Why advertise something that you don't have available to sell?

Vulptereen327

Daytona needs to add some more stands on the backstretch again is what this is telling me

Helpful_Passenger_80

No. Let the demand for tickets be greater than than supply. Let people be bummed that they missed out. That will make them buy tickets even faster next year and ensure another sellout. When you oversupply, you lose demand.

YankeeBarbary

One new set of stands on the backstretch should be able to still fill seats without overloading demand.

Helpful_Passenger_80

We've been through that mindset before and it worked for awhile. Then it got real awkward when demand fell. I'd rather they just stick with what they have. The harder a ticket is to get, the more exciting it is when people acquire them. And Daytona tickets really aren't that hard to get as it is.

YankeeBarbary

Didn't they sell out like, within a month?

SpenceSmithback

With all the events that sell out in a few hours, that's not that hard to get

Nothxm8

Quite a few more tickets at Daytona to sell lol.

FLRet8

Actually was about 9 months...

_hhhhh_____-_____

Another problem with that is that taxes for venues are partially determined by seat capacity. Not that I think more stands shouldn’t happen, I think it should!

jcbshortfilms

Which is the entire basis of inflation. Gotta make the seats valuable!

njdgaming

I had an internship at DIS last fall so I have some insight on this. The former Backstretch grandstands area (lot 6) is far more valuable to the track as an event space. They host things like Subiefest there and local police commonly use it for various training events. Sometimes a drivers ed place rents it out far an afternoon, and the space is used on the NASCAR/IMSA events for the TV production tents and employee/volunteer parking. The grandstands would only fill for the 500 if they were still there, as for the 400 they get a large crowd but not a sell out or one close enough to a sell out warrant additional seating. As for Rolex it would be a longer drive for trams and a really long walk for fans to get over there from the frontstretch grandstands, so they would likely have it closed for that event as well.

my_bandit

While I miss the backstretch seats and wish they would bring them back, they would have to invest quite a bit to make it equal to the experience you get from the front grandstands. Which is a ridiculous amount of stuff. It just doesn't make financial sense. A hotel with track facing balconies/window seating and a rooftop bar does, almost like the Charlotte condos. And Daytona has a ton of events that would help fill it.

Vulptereen327

They could do that and rebuild the Budweiser Party Porch

Hawkfan15

They have a bunch of RV spots they can sell for a ridiculous amount of money there now. Don't think they want to give that up.

YankeeBarbary

I've been seeing ads on FOX nonstop.

SQRTLURFACE

It’s Super Bowl week, not going to see a lot of advertising for Daytona yet.

epzik8

This is one reason I wish there were still 2-3 weeks between the Super Bowl and the 500.

SQRTLURFACE

Its honestly not going to make a difference in viewership. The people that are interested in watching the 500 already have it circled on the calendar, and the people who watch sports no matter what aren't really going to have an alternative that day. Leagues do a pretty solid job of trying to not overlap sports on big events as much as they can. Can't really avoid College Basketball because its the prime of their season, but even they have a limited schedule on that Sunday, with the bulk majority of their games being played the Saturday Night before. There's something crazy like 60+ division 1 games played on Saturday night before the 500. The other end of this is that commercial spots this time of year are generally very expensive with the super bowl ads ramping up as well as this being prime-commercial-launch season for streaming shows and whatnot, especially on mothership channels like CBS with their Paramount+ coverage of Halo just launching season 2. After the Super Bowl ad spending will drop considerably after 48 hours, and I suspect that's when we'll see the bulk majority of the daytona ads off-network.

Malt1720

Happy Daytona day

Specialist-Two2068

\*shudders\* please, let us never speak of that again...

Grand_Travel2890

Lol I’ve ads nonstop. What you talking about ?

JCTaylor46

Not really surprising when your biggest race (3-4 other crown jewel races too) start to be treated as just necessary stepping-stones under playoff driven seasons/storylines being the primary focal point. individual spectacle of big races are slowly losing their luster each year now.

JesusSandals73

It's because the race is sold out. Why advertise something you can't sell? Trust me, everyone around the track knows there is a race going on.

Quanmoodge62

I've been doing a 500 countdown of vintage racecars on my Facebook stories. Guess you missed those.

redditorus99

It's not really a big deal anymore. They don't do the Busch Clash at Daytona, speed weeks, real practice sessions, or any major build up to the event. It's just a few minutes (literally minutes) of practice, a qualifying session, a couple duels, and a race. There's more build up for your average local dirt track A main or any F1 race all year. Last year Connor Daly made the field with a car that was bouncing like a Pogo stick. This isn't a premier sporting event like it was in the 2010s, 2000s, 1990s, or 1980s where you had speed weeks, a clash, normal race practice, qualifying, happy hour, the duels, and then finally the race. It's no Indy 500 where it's literally called "The Month of May". Daytona even had to tear down most of the seats in a "renovation" project because they couldn't sell the tickets and needed to pretend they have a "sellout" crowd for the 500.

johko814

Tell us how the Daytona 500 has hurt you.

DWS44

Ya know...I'm as die-hard of a NASCAR fan as there is, but what he says really isn't wrong, unfortunately.

redditorus99

The same way every NASCAR event has hurt. Just a few years ago you'd go to a race at Michigan or literally any track on the cup schedule with two practice sessions, single one shot qualifying like it should be, a happy hour, then a race. The Daytona 500 being the premier event had all that plus speed weeks, the clash, and the duels. Now, NASCAR has removed 50% of the on track car time and wants to charge 100% of the price for 50% of the experience. Then, you get to the end of the so called "biggest race" and the broadcast will say "and X has punched his ticket to the playoffs". It's a dang shame when you win a race and all we can talk about is the playoffs not the win you just accomplished. NASCAR, do one event this year where you advertise you're gonna do it traditional style with full practice, full one shot single car qualifying, and you're gonna be amazed at the attendance figures because fans are gonna show up outta the woodwork. Do it for the Bristol day race, since your attendance there always sucks.

Grand_Travel2890

lol whatever dude. All I hear is bitching and whining. Why are you even on NASCAR reddit if you hate it so much?

NovaIsntDad

Sadly it's true, the broadcast will spend the entire race talking about playoff implications with each pass for the lead.

FreddieKraftsBackFat

Who cares the event of the century is happening this Sunday

jackg4343

I'll admit that Arsenal v. West Ham is big but I wouldn't say it's the event of the century. Weekend maybe.

AnotherRyRy

Bold of you to assume they didn't mean United v. Villa.

eestionreddit

arca is next saturday, silly

Eticket9

I have actually seen a bunch locally in Orlando and on Youtube as well..

PancakesandV8s

For real, the only mentions I've noticed have been here or racing media sites. No ads, no promotions, no hype. Weird.

sportscribe81

Fox has hammered it during other sports broadcasts. Awareness has to be ok for your average fan. I do feel the lack of "hype," though. But that's what happens when there's no on-track activity at Daytona until right before the race weekend.
