The Catholic Church has a long history of images, but Protestant religion does not. It, like a lot of black-and-white puritanical setups is fixated on the word, not the image. Fundamentalist protestantism - which I assume this drab is an acolyte of - sees demonic stuff in everything imagistic and artistic - as there's no room in their 'word' for it.

I think that we need to be aware of the variety of people that vote Republican these days in order to understand them and how to communicate with those that still have some sense of decency and sanity within them. The party has been taken over by the crazed, deluded and fascist. But whether people want to acknowledge it or not, there are still people that are closer to center. It behooves all of us to try to maintain connection with others in some of these circumstances. It’s not easy and it’s not always possible but it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try.
And this is not about creating any sorts of equivalence between different political parties. From my perspective there is no equivalence between the Republican party and the Democratic Party these days. And that is because the Republican party doesn’t even really have its own platform and only is an extreme counter response to anything that is Democratic, which is not a platform.
But there can still be a difference between a political party and individuals. and to me that is where we make the connections that have meaning. and that is where we hold each other accountable. It doesn't always work to change someone else's perspective, but it certainly doesn't if we don't even try.
Everyone should care. Normalizing insane language like this has a real effect on these communities. It puts us in the lgbtq community in danger.

This is nothing new. I passed a group in front of a school that was burning books, software games and had a huge cross over the schoolyard and parents were bringing music CD's in boxes. The Catholic Church has a long history of images, but Protestant religion does not. It, like a lot of black-and-white puritanical setups is fixated on the word, not the image. I got to reading some of the other articles on that site... it's absolutely terrifying what's happening in the US. One article about a hate-filled person highlighted that in one social media post, they likened LGBT+ people to pedos, and in another claimed that pedos deserved a bullet. It reminds me of someone a couple weeks ago claiming that there's no threat to LGBT+ people, that "connecting the dots" was silly. This is nothing new. I passed a group in front of a school that was burning books, software games and had a huge cross over the schoolyard and parents were bringing music CD's in boxes.
