I refuse to believe that this is even about poverty. Because the cheap safety shoes we use tend to come from these places, surely the B-grade would make circulation locally. Because the thing is that I can only imagine is that it is a cultural thing, there is an attitude where they refuse to wear them.
Because if you ever check something like Indiamart or other Asian international supplier yellow pages site, all the PPE and whatever you need is available.
But what I find bat shit insane is that these videos area always made by someone trying to sell these product they are making. It is absolutely fucking insane that there is demand for this stuff. It ain't even about fucking poverty anymore, it is clear they got the resources to recycle... They could easilly make recycled raw materials for export, in order to get wealth in to the country.
Like every nations economy develops from strong foundations that provide value adding, increased in state or technological level. But somehow these piss poor places seems to circulate around the same scrap yard and at times even medieval level tech (Then again... Lots of the traditional building materials such as decoratice tiles are still made in these places like they were used to. So there is actually valuable conservation of tradition happening - and once again something that is exportable). It has to be corruption or something, because it is clear from all the videos that there are hard working and clever people in these places. And it isn't like the overall quality of the product is any better than in west if you let people work without some quality demands. (I did my engineering grad in correction shitty welding on sites, because I was a welder before my studies... And boy when you don't demand quality and make sure you get that, you get just wild fucking stuff).
Yeah, corruption and profit taking at all levels. Also, yeah, B grade PPE is probably available in these places, but it still costs money. Money that could be lining someone’s pockets instead of protecting workers.
There is so much wealth in this world, I am sure that the degree a people suffer poverty is directly corelated to the degree of corruption that's in their local economy.
There's definitely a correlation, but you're also leaving out the massive resource extraction from the developing world into the developed world, and the wars fought to maintain that extraction.

I am agreeing with you. I know economics are the main driving factor here but culture also has something to do with it. It would be very very hard to find something like this happening in the US, but we see videos of these things all the time from other countries.
I know if proper safety equipment was provided most would utilize it.
Yeah cause in the US most people can look at these hazardous conditions say “Fuck This” and either walk off the job and find a much safer job that pays more than what these guys are being paid OR contact OSHA. The economic situation is always a driving force behind culture.

The injuries that must come out of manufacturing plants like these has to be insane. You gotta admit through, the sheer manufacturing ingenuity found in this part of the world is super impressive…and terrifying. Have you guys seen the one where they’re making commercial drum brake pads, and fucking sanding them to uniformity without any protection. Aerosolized asbestos… Yummy.

But honestly, I just think it's because they're more confortable being bare foot. Because they do wear gloves when needed.
