Incompetence like this, blocking an intersection, really needs to be referred to the DMV. That's a sign the motorist needs to study the driving manual and get tested again.
Unfortunately legislators and officials seem to be ok with treating drivers licenses like cereal box prizes.
In all fairness. I’ve had a cop yell at me for not stopping immediately on a 2 lane bridge. What I did was: slowed down, flicked on my hazard lights drove to the nearest safe location so we didn’t block traffic on a bridge, and made it safe for the officer.
Yeah, I have no excuse for it. I was distracted/confused at first because I didn’t realize it was a cop for a second, I thought it was a random car doing a crazy u turn. Still should have stopped. I realized it could have been me getting pulled over if she hadn’t run the stop in front of me… this was a wake up call for me and I’m more careful now
Alright you don't have to beat yourself up, that's just the standard way everyone treats stop signs in southern California, and like a million other places lol. Sure be more careful, but like, ehhh
No, don’t kid yourself. They have to beat themselves up or else the soy pitchforks would be assembled, a riot would form and they would be skinned alive
Just for future reference, in the future you should come to a complete stop with all of your vehicle behind the solid white line, that's the legal intersection boundary. If any part of your car passes that white line before you come to a complete stop then you are considered to have run the stop sign even though you ended up stopping. Best not to give the cops an excuse to pull you over, especially the cops you don't see, lol.
Which is worse? The dumbass who reads the letter of the law and comes to a complete stop behind the line and feels superior, or the person who slows, looks both ways before safely proceeding but never comes to a complete stop?
Letter of the law vs. spirit of the law.
I guess it's pretty simple to me, the person who stops completely at the stop sign is better. Hence the name "Stop" and it's position on a post as a "sign" a "Stop sign"
I do this former when there's more than just me at the stop sign, I do the latter if I'm the only one.
For what it's worth I drive stick so it's a lot easier to keep rolling slightly.
To that I'd say "it depends", but it's clear from the way you describe it you roll stops all the time.
Which is worse? The dumbass who thinks they're above the law, or person who stops and checks before safely proceeding, like every other motorist expects them?
Letter of the law vs. Above the law
So many things. The stop sign running. No lights from the police suv when doing the u-turn from the far lane. Stop sign runner didn't find a safe place to pull over. Camera car does a California stop.
Either still counts as running a stop sign. OP was just lucky the other guy did so at a higher speed, otherwise I wouldn't be surprised if the cop went for him
I didn’t say that or mean that… as I explained in another comment lol. But wow I’m surprised how many people are seemingly implying what I did was as bad as the other person blatantly running the stop sign completely vs my rolling stop. I understand I could have been pulled over as well which is why I stated that this was a wake up call for me, especially since I have still never been pulled over. I understand it’s Reddit and everyone is going to judge but saying that I was trying to imply I did nothing wrong and the other person was the only one at fault isn’t true lol.
Not really a new trend I got pulled over by an unmarked vehicle about 15 years ago. But the newer police vehicles, even the marked ones are having the light bars put inside the body of the car, so it makes them harder to identify from a distance.
No. Cops driving unmarked vehicles to catch traffic offenders doing things they do when they think there are no cops watching is a time-honored tradition.
I made a joke about cops going undercover as cops, for reasons, and you took me seriously. Occupational hazard for the shitposter.
Come on guys the cammer doesn't have to stop at the stop sign. It's called "journalistic immunity". I mean how else was he gonna capture that award winning footage of the cop pulling over the real criminal? 😏
I was at a stoplight recently and there was a car in the left turn lane. A cop car ahead of me pulled up next to him to go straight. When the light turned green he shot out in front of the cop to go straight ahead. Needless to say it didn't go well for him but it sure made my day!
It never ceases to amaze me when I come across something like this completely at random, and I can pick out exactly where it is just by looking at the houses and intersections because I drive on the same road.
Doesn't know how to pull over either.
It’s bad enough to stop on a busy road with so much parking next to it, but in the intersection, that’s a new one.
dude I saw someone pull into a mcdonalds drive through once... they got IN LINE
parking next to it -> side roads to park on.

Lol - driving manual Florida here

You did the right thing!
I like how the cam car treats the stop sign as a yield sign, behind a cop
What are the chances there’s two cops?
Depends on how close you are to the donut shop
Gotta mark those on the map now.
Slightly Tap On Pedal
I've always heard it as Squeal Tires On Pavement

Can you show us what a soy pitchfork looks like?
It's like a regular pitchfork but made of wojaks.

I run stop signs all the time, you're fine. Just be aware of the stop sign order
They totally paused.
I thought all stop signs are yield signs when nobody is around…
Peak comedy right there

Yep love how OP is like "look at this idiot running a stop sign" as he runs a stop sign lol
True enough, but there's a huge difference between a rolling stop and the other car brazenly speeding through.
Not really, as neither of them did stop
Yes really, one has a high likelihood of getting you t-boned, the other is more akin to yielding since you’re like 99% stopped
True, however both get you a ticket, so there is a difference.
Driving through a stop at 30 and 5 mph are not the same
Either still counts as running a stop sign. OP was just lucky the other guy did so at a higher speed, otherwise I wouldn't be surprised if the cop went for him

Cop looked at you so unimpressed like "could have been you"
Cuco is fire
CUCO
Yeeee I was going to comment it this myself
That’s not an undercover cop.
*unmarked police vehicle* fixed it.
He's undercover as a cop; it's the new trend in law enforcement.

Oh yeah haha sarcasm is hard on in the internet.
You also rolled through the stop sign.
Yes, totally my fault, I should have stopped. I already explained in one of the many other comments left before you saying the same thing
This in Bradenton?
4-way stop signs will now and forever be the stupidest road design of the Americans
almost every 4 way stop could be a small roundabout and it would remove 95% chance of these kinds of violations
Cop about caused a wreck like a dipshit doing a u turn from an inside lane with zero lights.
You’re California roll isn’t much better than not stopping. Just sayin.🤷🏻♂️
So both of you?
Unmarked =/= undercover
Cammer decides to run the stop too in front of a cop.
\*behind the cop
OP is a bum for running the stop sign.
And then you ran the same stop sign...
r/JusticeServed
I absolutely have to commend you for your song choice here! CUCO is the shit!!!
Come on guys the cammer doesn't have to stop at the stop sign. It's called "journalistic immunity". I mean how else was he gonna capture that award winning footage of the cop pulling over the real criminal? 😏
Posts video while running a stop sign (definitely not a complete stop) to show someone running a stop sign. Classic
Driver rolled through that stop sign.
Yeah ran it also
I guess nobody stops at that stop sign
I think all four of those cars were unmarked police vehicles
Cool song, what's the name?
CUCO - Dontmakemefallinlove
Florida?
Yeah, I could bet this is around Sunrise, FL
Turning down the music hoping to hear the siren?
Cuco reference?
Officer, I didn’t know what that red octagon white letters meant. I swear
Just cut the video shorter next time lol
I totally paused!
I just see 2 people running a stop sign
That is not an undercover cop.
Beat me to it 🤣
I was at a stoplight recently and there was a car in the left turn lane. A cop car ahead of me pulled up next to him to go straight. When the light turned green he shot out in front of the cop to go straight ahead. Needless to say it didn't go well for him but it sure made my day!
Camera man just glazed thru that stop sign too! Lol
Cam car also doesn't know how to stop at a stop sign. . . .
I see this more as a "haha loser, the cop caught you and not me"
Okay so our camera car didn't stop either. 2 seconds is not a legal stop. Its a full 5 seconds at a complete stop. The camera car at best yeild
Tons and tons of people have already commented this.
It never ceases to amaze me when I come across something like this completely at random, and I can pick out exactly where it is just by looking at the houses and intersections because I drive on the same road.
I like how the title is written as if it was obvious there was an undercover cop :D
r/convenientcop
Cuco is the shit man 🆒🇨🇰
Good thing for OP the other guy got caught first.
It is funny because the truck ran the same stop sign.lol.
The person filming didn’t even come to a complete stop. They give tickets for that around here.
I hate these california stops too
Karma, got to love her.
