When most traffic is safer robocars someone who needs to go just a few miles on a nice day might have a self driving eBike come to them for a fourth the price of a robotaxi. It might actually be faster with traffic.
yeah it does solve some last mile issues like I took this train to point B, but I am still a mile away from office. Then you can summon a bike to get there.
Adding a third wheel (ie building a trike) eliminates the need for the complex balancing system on the autonomous bike.
Why go through the complexity of building a two wheel system? What is the primary benefit? Is it mainly for looks? It's cool? Takes less space on the road? Add new tech to an old form factor? Curious what others think...
Because then it wouldn’t be a self driving bicycle anymore. Nobody wants a self driving tricycle. Tricycles are for losers. Might as well go all the way and get a self driving 4 wheeler (car) instead.
I guess you could use it for small deliveries. Just tell the customer to come out and get the package. And you already have preexisting infrastructure for bikes. If there’s any accident, it’s usually no big deal for bikes.
Now get to the stage where we can get that tech into a single tire, and we can make [homicidal tires](https://www.google.com/search?q=rubber+movie&oq=rubber+movie&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgAEAAYjwIyBwgAEAAYjwIyCggBEC4YsQMYgAQyBwgCEAAYgAQyBwgDEAAYgAQyBwgEEAAYgAQyBwgFEAAYgAQyBwgGEAAYgAQyBwgHEAAYgAQyBwgIEAAYgAQyBwgJEAAYgATSAQgxNTkwajBqN6gCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) a reality.
Google had this as an April Fool joke in 2016: https://youtu.be/LSZPNwZex9s?si=Svnfcmis3XDE5EW3

Once the bike arrives, would the rider operate it, or is it still in autonomous mode to the office? Great idea.

Sometimes engineers build things for a laugh. Like a Rube-Goldberg bicycle.

Yeah I agree. They could even add training wheels to the end of the bike if they want to keep the bike concept.
But what does it use for actuation

Hmm, I see a gang of people, in San Francisco probably, just jacking the packages off the bikes.
not really any more or less safe than those delivery robots. They can always design a bike that's harder to be tempered with.
This reminds me of [this Cornell Project Team](https://www.cuautobike.org/).
Google ‘Ola-Solo india’
just makes me think of calvin's bike hunting him down in calvin and hobbes
