Upbeat_Tension_8077

Fiery Babyface Ospreay is about to be dope as hell, especially against the likes of Samoa Joe & what looks like now-heel Hangman Even though Fletcher is not there rn because of his visa issues, I'm holding onto the kayfabe idea that him & Will are already scheming to split off and rep United Empire in AEW

mikro17

> I'm holding onto the kayfabe idea that him & Will are already scheming to split off and rep United Empire in AEW Ospreay threw up the Crown tonight. And was wearing a VERY great tracksuit. Just saying.

Scurvydog619Official

If this leads to Based Great O-Khan appearing on AEW TV in the future,I'm not against that at all.

Michael_McGovern

I think Fletcher is ready to move out of Ospreay's shadow. I think he'd do better staying with Callis as a rival to Ospreay.

KG_Cocidius31

When all is said and done with the Don Callis Family story, I could see Sammy and Hobbs being the new members of UE in AEW.

FragMasterMat117

Aussie Open is already in AEW, just saying…

no_more_blues

I think Hobbs says with Don. Sammy's situation is weird, tbh the numbers of a UE vs Callis Family story is off because UE will have 3 (at least) and Don will only have two. Sammy probably should have stayed in the longer term for the Ospreay stuff but they just turned him face because they needed a partner for Jericho after Kenny's illness. I almost wonder if Kenny comes back heel under Callis again but I can't see people wanting to boo Kenny if he comes back from a life threatening illness.

KG_Cocidius31

I can see that, but Hobbs seemed to be cool with Ospreay unlike Takeshita. The rest makes sense. I'm pretty sure Kenny will be a face when he is back because I think it's setting up for him vs the Bucks. Just to clear something up because I see it a decent amount, Kenny's illness isn't something that's typically life threatening unless it's ignored for a very long time or has something else making it worse. I'm guessing by the fact that he is still out that he had a colorectal resection and needs time for the repair to heal or potentially has a temporary ostomy bag.

Marcoscb

Isn't the whole schtick of the UE that their members are from different cultures and not pure born American/Japanese? I can see Sammy barely qualifying since his father is Cuban, but Hobbs doesn't fit at all.

KG_Cocidius31

I thought it was just that they are from all over in general. Otherwise Great-O-Khan wouldn't qualify either and he is a founding member.

itsagrungething69

Did Fletcher come back from injury before the Visa issues. I thought he has a minor injury that was keeping him out as well.

SpeedZ6

Everyone was dressed in varying levels of comfort. Track suit, no shirt, no socks, draped in leather.

butterybuns420

And yet no one was ensconced in velvet

Hanz-Olo

Now I’m imagining George Costanza doing a run-in

DiazFlak

subwaymonkey1

My George isn't clever enough to hatch a scheme like this.

Lobstrous

Give him one more Summer of George, he'll get there.

Fellers

I missed the promo. How many times did he say "bruv"?

AimarEraFutebol

About 4 times.

JARAXXUS_EREDAR_LORD

Slow night.

ryanfea

Gotta leave ‘em wanting more

kirkfeel78

Rookie numbers

NegativesPositives

Don Callis having negative emotional intelligence in kayfabe is 10/10. Dude’s about to fuck himself out of a third client in the span of months and he’ll have no idea why.

mikro17

Like all great pro wrestling heels, Don Callis has seemingly never actually watched a pro wrestling show in his life. "Oh, I'll just have my two wrestlers fight each other at the PPV, there is NO POSSIBLE WAY this could backfire!"

eatcrayons

Ummm, it’s two paydays for one match. What’s not to love?!

Xyless

Not only 2 wrestlers, 2 wrestlers that were basically aces of different companies (Takeshita = DDT, Ospreay = Gaijin Ace of NJPW). It's 2 hippos ready to brutally maul each other for territory.

Zlavoj_Sizek

\>"Am I out of touch? No, it's Will Ospreay who is wrong."

SPna15

Just an aggressively British man.

fearthemonstar

I'm shocked how over he was with an Alabama crowd. Huntsville was great tonight, highlighted by the segment. They could have been dead silent and messed up this debut, but he seems like a huge deal already.

mikro17

> I'm shocked how over he was with an Alabama crowd. > > I was too, but then again, this crowd also popped for a reference to Samoa Joe on commentary in a poncho. AEW Huntsville crowd is apparently into the deep cuts and you love to see it, makes everything better.

fearthemonstar

Yes, I'm ashamed of my bias, but I assumed Huntsville was basically corpus Christi. I apologize Huntsville, I wasn't familiar with your game.

murderisntnice

I’m so glad we got to show out! I was so pleasantly surprised with the crowd, but we chanted and booed until we were out of breath.

BubbRubb4Real

Was it hard to hear Don Callis over the boos?

roguetrooper25

i could somewhat hear him but def couldn’t make out anything he was actually saying, bro had dom heat

CapnShimmy

I was there and couldn’t hear a word Callis said over the boos and “you suck” chant.

BubbRubb4Real

That’s awesome. I always compare his reactions to the reaction he got right after turning on Kenny. I thought maybe his heat was dying off but I’m glad to hear that it’s just how it came across on TV.

trentshipp

Did you watch Dynamite from Corpus? It's been a minute since they've been there, but the crowd was awesome. Turns out CC just doesn't like WWE. Makes sense, it was very much a WCW town back in the day.

fearthemonstar

I did, and yea I think we are generally unfair to CC because of that one dead silent Raw from years ago. But Huntsville is even a smaller city than CC, which is why I had them pegged as "probably not enough smarks to be loud for a #2 promotion." But I'm glad to be wrong, it was a fantastic crowd all night.

CapnShimmy

Huntsville has the benefit of being not only one of the biggest and fastest growing cities in Alabama, but also close enough for a lot of the surrounding bigger cities that a quick trip can be made to it. Tuscaloosa and Birmingham are both less than two hours away, so smarks from both cities could easily make the drive. Nashville is pretty close, too.

Staynes

At this point 95% of people who still watch or go to aew shows are familiar with the iwc and rumors imo, aew has pretty much nothing left but the absolute die hard wrestling Fans and theyre struggling hard to find a broader audience again.

mavarian

If there are seemingly 800k diehard wrestling fans into AEW in the US, that's pretty good for them though? With the amount of unique viewers being higher even

Staynes

The problem is they dont grow anymore. Sure if TK thinks 800k (which isnt even the real number and the only reason the ratings still say 800k+ is because dynamite always has a bigger lead in which they dont retain anything from after quarter 2 or 3) is a good number fine for him. But with WWE growing like they have been you would expect AEW to catch some of that growth in any way or form but they arent, theres nothing growing in AEW be it ratings or watch numbers on youbtube (Highest watched clip from last week Dynamite is at 300k Viewers, 2 Weeks ago its Hangman/Joe wth nearly 500k) TK has enough money to keep that company alive for however long he wants thats not the problem for him but imo as a fan of AEW im looking at whats happening in the wrestling bubble and im scratching my head why AEW isnt getting anything from it. (Im not really wondering why AEW isnt growing there are a bunch of reasons that are pretty obvious imo especially when it comes to entertaining people on the roster)

Underhorse

Certified yapper

mavarian

If you want to account for the lead-in, then wouldn't it make more sense to look at either the quarter hours or the number of unique viewers? They rarely have any quarter-hour below 800k, lead-in or not.  No one is saying AEW is doing great businesswise currently, but maintaining numbers in this landscape is a success too, and shouldn't be diminished by WWE having more success. Also, AEW came to be mainly because more and more people were dissatisfied with WWE, turned to New Japan etc. Why would AEW gain viewers from another company's success with a different approach. Eventually it could lead to growth of AEW once WWE cools off. They've tried to jump on WWE's success last year, didn't work and lead to a worse show. I don't know why "as a fan of AEW" you'd get more hung up on not growing than on the improvement in show quality, especially when acknowledging that the company will be around for as long as TK wants. "TK keeping that company alive" makes it sound like it was a huge failure and loss of money. We don't know exact numbers but they're in for an even bigger TV deal, so even if they weren't profitable because of attendance being down or sth, it should be miniscule.

Heavy_Arm_7060

Ospreay is one of the best incoming talents they've had in terms of being able to present them properly. He's had several bangers in AEW prior, they hyped up his signing, and teased his arrival. It of course helps that he's quite good, but I think in general they've set him up quite well and the reactions are a testament to that.

koomGER

It also helps that people have a good idea of Osprey. They already saw him wrestle at the highest level, and in his few promos on AEW and his presence on Twitter you hear him talk. Osprey is probably overall a way better signing than Okada.

Wreckingshops

When you talk about getting pissed with the missus, Bama can get behind that. Let's be real, chav isn't far off from hick or hillbilly:)

no_more_blues

I'm surprised how good Ospreay is at being a wholesome babyface. He came off like Conor McGregor when everyone actually liked him instead of the douchebag he became (which is the character Ospreay played for most of his NJPW run). If they give Ospreay the ball to run with this summer they genuinely have something special on their hands.

stuckinsanity

He just comes across as a really genuine guy who's thrilled with his life and his success and it's great to see.

Dipthedamncarrot

After watching some interviews with him, i think with renee i could genuinely never believe him as a heel again, i know he’s far too sweet and genuine

trentshipp

He's Goku. I'm here for it.

His real life personality and upbringing is nothing like this. Posh tory boy

[deleted]

Russlet

Or what you are currently seeing is a character? A wrestler with a character. His current character is pretending to be a rudeboi chav from the ends. His real life is the complete opposite.

Ryuzakku

Alright, be an elitist, whatever gets your rocks off, kid.

iizukeii

Ospreays final year in New Japan consisted of him having the entire crowd chant his name, him hugging and giving his belt to little Japanese kids in the crowd and him doing emotional baby face promo’s in the ring after the match. The reason he’s the best isn’t just cause of he’s in-ring skills, it’s how well he’s improved in all other areas. He’s an actual great babyface and a great heel

RedditUsername3127

He’s always been someone who finds a fault with himself and then obsesses on improving it, I’m really excited to see how he progresses in aew

Zall_TW

Connor was never a wholesome babyface lmao

Michael_McGovern

Which is good because they're overloaded with heels and really need a genuine face. For faces at the top of the card they have MJF and everyone else is a tweener where you don't know whether to cheer or boo them from show to show.

no_more_blues

Eddie, Orange, Darby, Copeland are all clear faces. The only tweeners on the roster are Swerve and the BCC.

Michael_McGovern

All of them are in the middle to upper card. Darby and Orange have been the only ones to glimpse the world title picture and both of them were a while back.

heat_fan_

Glad he got to keep his Elevated song Strap the rocket on this guy It's a big get for aew

MeanAmbrose

The Ospreay chant is too good, hope they play his entrance out to let the crowd yell it

EffingKENTA

They probably should edit it so that part comes in earlier. Entrances are usually shorter in AEW than NJPW.

numbr87

Don't touch a SINGLE note

Marcoscb

His PPV entrances should be long enough as to get to that part. I don't think it's needed for random promos on Dynamite. I'm very surprised the "woooah" at the start hasn't caught on, though.

SomeUserOnTheNet

iirc people threw the lightsticks up at the "woah" part in NJPW. Correct me if i'm wrong tho

SMC540

The real solution is to just make his entrance as long as necessary, every time, no matter what. That's what the overrun is for now.

ClaymoresRevenge

He's world champ by the summer

alexmeth

At All In, bruv!

jimmyg17

Challenger Ospreay vs Champion Swerve, All In main event.

freebread

Nooooo that can easily main event a show down the line. IMO give us Ospreay vs Joe while they still can. Hometown babyface vs final boss heel is perfect for Wembley.

MrFMF

put this in my veins

EnvironmentalAge9202

Wembly.

StormWarriorX7

Ospreay can and will become the face of AEW in due time. To me, it works. With the way he's been hyped up by AEW and how he gets to keep "Elevated", it shows the trust and faith Tony Khan has in him. He'll become World Champ at All In for sure.

couldbedumber96

Surely Tony is smart enough to give us ospreay vs PAC sometime right?

Ryuzakku

If PAC can both be healthy and have a Visa at the same time, of course.

WhoiusBarrel

Kermit the frog doing leg day is a fucking line LOL

SkratchMyItch

Ospreay has not only become a very good promo guy over time, but he comes across very believable. Going out on the mic and talking in UK slang (bruv, slags, mate, etc) and not forcing something else will do him wonders too I think.

mikro17

He turned the corner and really seemed to find himself as a character when he was the Commonwealth Kingpin and started up United Empire, which I have to imagine he'll be getting going in AEW once he splits from Don. He was throwing the Crown Up tonight when he got in the ring (United Empire hand sign).

[deleted]

Wait I thought it was supposed to be a W O

numbr87

I've always assumed it was both, but I'm also not sure Will is clever enough for that

[deleted]

"You're the dumbest person I know and I know Ospreay" truly is burned into wrestling lore

mikro17

I never saw a "W O," but I guess I can a bit now? But its been the handsign for the entire group, Aussie Open have done it a bunch in AEW.

Beard341

I knew he was an amazing wrestler already but I realized he was a really good promo guy when he made that singular in-ring promo with Jericho before All-In *compelling*.

barneyflakes

If you haven't, seek out the promo with Ospreay and Omega before their WK 17 match, it's my favorite promo of Ospreay's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueWAzVxJ0E4

DeFy_DC

Also his press conference before his last match with Shota.

NeuroCloud7

Yeah that was exceptional, and I have a feeling Ospreay will improve the more he focuses on episodic television, which he's never done before

BubbRubb4Real

Yes! That promo battle got me from “Oh god I don’t want to see him face Jericho 😑” to “….Alright alright I’m in!”.

TrainXIV

Having watched him since his Swords of Essex days, he’s definitely “British-ing” it up for the American fans. Thought he was going to say “Pip Pip Cheerio!” for a second. His more serious backstage NJPW promos felt far more authentic to me, but I guess he feels has to be more of a “gimmick” in AEW

the_io

> Thought he was going to say “Pip Pip Cheerio!” for a second. he's chav stereotype, not ponce stereotype. More "mandem" than "ma'am".

ParanoidEngi

He used to have merch that said Pip Pip Cheerio - pretty sure one of his moves was named that for a bit too

the_io

Aaah, didn't know that.

Shuriken95

Yeah he's definitely "turning up" the Britishness, cos he never did the bruv stuff outside of AEW.

JCfromTBC

He’s honestly got a touch of Stone Cold on the mic.

MrBoyer55

He makes you believe everything he's saying. This is Will turned up to 11, which is the basis for a lot of the best characters in wrestling.

burgerpatrol

Elevated is so electric, it's going to catch up on the audience one way or another

Skywalker3030

Callis in the back during the handshake had me dead Good segment and looks like Ospreay is going babyface soon, thank god Bruv should be main eventing Wembley

no_more_blues

Whole crowd chants for Ospreay: "Ospreay Ospreay! Takeshita Takeshita! Give it up for both guys!" Fuck the haters I want Don on TV every week.

solelyginger

lmao i fucking loved it. Delusional Don Callis is the best. It was very strong “~~Fuck you Don!~~ Thank you Don!” energy

mikro17

> Fuck the haters I want Don on TV every week. 100%. I don't care if the manager gets more heat than the wrestlers, I just want great television and Don Callis provides that consistently, dude is absolute walking slime and I just desperately want everyone to punch him in the face. Nobody ever complained about Bobby Heenan being too big of a deal - I don't think at least, it was a bit before my time lol.

SlimReaper665

Was a nice lil reminder that the best wrestler walking planet earth is also pretty damn naturally charismatic, bruv

koomGER

From a certain point of view: Osprey could become what Omega was supposed to be for AEW (but injuries cut his run short).

Then-Shop5854

From how Omega was talking even when AEW started he's always known he was on the clock, he spent about the last of his "I'm the best in the world week to week" juice in that title run, since then he's still an unbelievable worker, but I'm sure he's glad he can take a back seat.

IamcJ

He's gonna shine for years to come

Michael_McGovern

I think he'll be what they thought they had when they got Omega. Omega has been great for AEW but I think most think his peak was back in NJPW and his prime run in AEW was quite brief and now he's breaking down. I think Ospreay can be THE guy.

Remarkable-Motor7705

I genuinely think he has all the tools to be one of the biggest things in all of pro wrestling. Really excited to see what AEW does with him. That eventual Ospreay vs. Switchblade feud is going to be absolutely incredible.

DeFy_DC

They have tons of history.

Tsuku

I love Ospreay's charisma, him and Swerve facing off will be unreal. I hope Tony knows the gold he has right now with them.

Infamous-Historian81

That pointy thing Takeshita did at the end was boss

SicknessRising

He seems so happy to be there. Good for him. I’m ready for this match!

BoyWithHorns

Heel Takeshita with Don Callis is S tier booking and always has been.

ReflectionItchy2701

To think that such a great babyface like Takeshita could work so well as a heel, it's incredible. I didn't watch Takeshita with DDT so maybe he has been a heel already in his career.

JeremyTSchmidt

I'm so glad I got to see both Ospreay & Takeshita in South Bend thanks to Warrior Wrestling.  The match Will had with Brian Cage at Warrior was absolutely incredible, & his post match promo was one of the most genuinely real promos I've ever heard.  You couldn't help but root for the guy.  The Stone Cold comparison above is spot on.  Ospreay has so many great opponents to play off the next few years, it's gonna be special. I can't fucking wait bruv.

Biggensberger

This match is gonna fuck so outrageously hard. Good lord. Osprey's arrival is so exciting. He is such a star. Takeshita too. They sold the match so well, too, with just that 30 second staredown.

itsmekelsey_x

Bruv. Can’t wait for him to take on over AEW.

tc__22

Schlaggggg

Infamaniac23

I really wish they just turn him pure babyface. I never liked him as a heel and always found his heel control segments bad. But I dig him as a face, him dying and trying to comeback against Omega during their wrestle kingdom match was a sight to behold.

resolve028

You can tell that they believe this is the new Okada/Omega. They have a lot to live up to with this first match but if any 2 wrestlers can do it, it's these 2.

murderisntnice

Thank you for posting what Callis said, I was in the crowd and couldn’t hear a word over our booing lmao.

plisken64

Bruv..

Ferdinandingo

goosebumps from that staredown

Biggensberger

Fucking electric. The presence of both of them

All_Botch_Everything

Most excited I've been for a match since Omega/Ospreay. Will has been the best in the world for like 3-4 years now.

Brabochokemightwork

A true british lad, if you look up the world “Lad” in the dictionary you’ll see Ospreay’s face

janoo1989

that staredown between Ospreay and Takeshita was pretty electric

ReflectionItchy2701

It's pretty clear something will happen at Revolution and Ospreay will completely turn face and leave the Don Callis family. I appreciate the fact that they didn't introduce Ospreay like it was his first time in AEW and never was a member of the Don Callis family. Even if it's difficult to portray Ospreay as a heel right now, they sticked to the continuity and the fact that indeed he is a member of the Don Callis family right now. I liked Callis saying that this match is like when Jordan and Pippen faced eachother in practice. This match can be absolutely fantastic.

ollyollyollyoioioi

I really really really want Ogogo and Ospreay working together. Bruv & Guv

Scurvydog619Official

It'll be Osprey and Kip Sabian. They've been friends for years, and Kip in the AEW version of United Empire would WORK.

ollyollyollyoioioi

I love Kip so i'd be down for that but I want Ogogo to be higher on the card and Ospreay is gonna get a lot of tv time

TDStarchild

The crowd singing Elevated and chanting Ospreay after he wins the title in Wembley will be legendary.

snowybell

Here's hoping he doesn't end up like Jay White.

Russlet

2 years ago ending up like Jay White would be a great thing. Shameful how TK dropped the ball.

DrRafaelPenguin

I will cry if the Don Callis Family turns on Ospreay at Revolution and then we get three months of him tagging with Jericho.

ThisIsKhrox

No. Callis turns on him, Kyle Fletcher returns pissed off and we get United Empire in AEW with Ospreay and Aussie Open

rosefuri

he reminds me a lot of 2019 cody where there was this very sincere babyface vibe that was infectious, you just *want* that to be the top guy. I've thought it before but tonight kind of solidified it for me, he's going to be huge for AEW.

WilliamPSplooge

He and Okada are just what the doctor ordered for AEW.

Eastern-Branch-3111

Best wrestler alive. The only 5 star match I've ever seen in person was much more him than his opponent.

RumsfeldIsntDead

Guy who's fought half the roster in AEW has finally arrived in AEW. I wonder if he'll learn from why there's no serious buzz at all for this when Okada comes in

MrPuroresu42

I’m thinking perhaps after the match, win or lose, the “Don Callis Family” attacks Ospreay, and then you hear a coin drop?

no_more_blues

Lol Okada bout to save like 3 people on the Revolution PPV.

jimbsmithjr

He may as well just stay at ringside, ready to step in as required

plisken64

just saying i would read that Manga

c0de1143

I’d be shocked if he wasn’t part of the Boston show.

RoboZoninator91

Mone opens, Okada closes. I'd put money on it

An_Actual_Owl

Get him away from the Don Callis black hole of Charisma and keep him out of stable wars bullshit and he can easily be the top guy.

BamaNUgaPayPlayers

Who

durran684

Why make the spoiler the title?

Gameunderground

Why even tag this spoiler? Spoilers: Spoiler in the title. "New Wrestler has arrived in AEW" Come on dude.

bobbythecorky

Right? Why bother, it keeps happening regardless 🙄

SMC540

Ospreay challenging Swerve for the world title at Wembley would probably be the single best decision Tony Kahn could make in 2024.

TG316

I've been a massive fan of Will since he started at Rev Pro years and years ago, and I'm genuinely moved to see his career going as well as it is. Keep smashing it Will, onwards and upwards, bruv.
