Mazzle5

Since day one when he became full time AEW. Heck they even trimmed something from his theme so that the part with the Ospreay chants come earlier

eminemcrony

OK so I wasn't going crazy when I thought they edited his theme compard to the version I heard on PPVs. Guess it was both to make it better for TV and so the chants are earlier.

Ryuzakku

The Ospreay chant part is 1 minute 53 seconds into his NJPW theme version, so they've cut out about a minute of his theme to get it earlier.

KTheOneTrueKing

They basically replaced the first chorus with the second chorus.

Ryuzakku

Effectively, though the first verse is also hype and I’m sad we don’t have it

UpsetKnicksFan29

Same. The song/entrance doesn't hit the same for me. Its lyrically one of the most well crafted songs made for a specific wrestler and it gets chopped up so fans can get their chants off 30 seconds in. If Ospreay is as big a deal as advertised (which he is), either let the song play out every time if your desperate for the fan participation or save it for big matches/moments. IMO. Feels like such a weird thing to be annoyed by but here I am, weirdly annoyed.

Ryuzakku

He didn't get the full one at the PPV, which sucks, as I'd hope he'd get it at big shows. For a comparison, it'd be like cutting out the middle of Triple H's entrance, and you can't have his entrance without the entire thing!

Tdaddysmooth

Dammit. Why is AEW booking so confusing??? /s

JimmyBim

The perfect solution. I was worried too because AEW entrances are normally far faster than other promotions that the chanting part would be cut. Thankfully with this edit they can keep their own style AND the Ospreay chant!

inhumanrampager

And he can do a full entrance for PPV if need be

kyrilhasan

The effect of Minoru Suzuki Incident.

Ibrahim2x

What was the incident?

y2k890

they cut off his theme before the "kaze ni nare" part

Ibrahim2x

Ahh yes, I remember the internet being ablaze about it lol

Santos_L_Halper

I get why they did it, that part of the song comes in pretty late and it was the last match of the show so they were under extreme time constraints... but come oooon. It was his first televised AEW appearance and they cut really the only crowd participation thing Suzuki does, and it's a major part of his otherwise lackluster entrance. As a Suzuki mark I was very bummed about that. But then they haven't done it since and I got to yell it at Grand Slam 1, which was great.

Ibrahim2x

Nice! I think it's a great part of being a wrestling fan is finally being able to join along with chants that you've heard on TV

Bout0067

I love how naturally that chant grew in Japan, especially since these kinds of chants are less common there unless you're a Naito/Okada/Tana

TheDeflatables

The Wrestle Kingdom and Post-DogCage Ospreay shouts were truly special

ramonzer0

I feel like that chant only just happened in NJPW during his last year there? He had Elevated from 2017-2020, got a new theme after turning heel and forming United Empire and then got Elevated back last year and I don't remember the Japanese fans chanting like that when he was a junior

TheDeflatables

You are correct. He was over pre-UE but not OVER over. He truly became special after the pandemic for NJPW and the crowd started to truly love him, and he noticed so brought back Elevated (which he clearly preferred but was trying to be a good heel so used the other song). Once he had the Kenny WK match he was almost Naito/Okada level with the crowd and that resulted in the beautiful WK18 and Dog Cage chants

ramonzer0

Elevated being back - forgive me for the pun - helped elevate the WK17 match Putting aside the excellent in-ring action, the entrances helped create the big fight feel the match deserved As much as my inner FF7 fanboy loved the One-Winged Angel entrance, Will countering it by going back to Elevated and in a way committing to being more face-like which he seemed to be going into beforehand was excellently done

tmads_

This comment made me realize I have yet to move on, I like AEW Will but man...

TheDeflatables

I don't really watch AEW. I'll miss Will, but alas he has to do what is best for him! Shota Umino will lead me forward!

tmads_

I trust in the musketeers + Yuya I also trust that i'll choke Gedo So... you know.

Stone2269

Umino has lost every big match he's had for over a year now. i gave up on him. Tsuji is the new man now

TheDeflatables

Umino was the last Reiwa Musketeer alive in his G1 block last year, has had the best match of any of them in the last calendar year, beat Ren Narita in a Korauken Hall main event in January (which was a big match), and is on the clearest story path of any of them (vs HoT with Jack Perry match very likely coming at Windy City or Dontaku)

Twistify804

don't know how you can say that shota loses too many big matches and then cite tsuji, who loses more lmao.

DamieN62

I kinda miss the first verse of the song but I understand why they went straight to the "Ospreay" part, it works better for TV. I hope they can play the normal version in Wembley as he will have a longer entrance.

EndOfDays2525

He has a star entrance. The music, his energy, and the crowd chants really help elevate the whole thing too

luchabrunch

His energy is what really makes it special though. Many people try to create this level of energy and it feels forced. Ospreay has some sort of natural vitality and it just feels right and contagious.

welcome2bonkers

"Bruv, I AM the feeling."

Song_of_Pain

I AM THE HYPE

Mazzle5

And unlike Vegeta Will didn't sound desperate

Sean_0510

Is that me stronger than me? I'LL FUCKING KILL ME

luchabrunch

He really is lol

alex_119

I heard this in full Ospreay voice and energy. Yupp, he’s that good.

EggfooDC

He is *Lisan al-Gaib*!!! It is written… Bruv Maud’Dib

WarmestDisregards

he's genuinely one of those labrador-type people in real life so that tracks. a good example of the "forced energy" thing can be copeland's entrances sometimes

SenorDuck96

>he's genuinely one of those labrador-type people in real life so that tracks. That perfectly describes Will, loveable goofball idiot

BenFranklinsCat

I feel like part of that might be the WWE formula of over-produced entrances, with specific time cues for pyro and poses that need to be tied to the music. I know HHH is a big fan of them, and some amazing entrances have been under his watch (like the Demon Balor NXT entrances) but after a while they do feel forced.

pointysort

Dude made me excited for the sandwiches back stage.

BarnBanders

“Elevate” …. Like his his song. Heh

myslead

They just need to surround him with great stories and he’s going to carry the company on his back

SeanWonder

I just don’t understand why there’s no pyro at the moment he lifts his hoodie during his entrance. Seems like such a perfect time to hit some fireworks and he sets it up so well but I’m disappointed each time he does it and nothing happens

10024618

Bro that chant alone has already made elevated one of my favorite themes in wrestling

HiImFur

I've been listening to Elevate at the gym...lol it's a catchy entrance song for sure

hoopbag33

It is pronounced "bruv"

Styles_Clash

"Elevated" has made it to the playlists for my top sets when lifting. I time it so when the chant hits I have no choice but to make it

just-smiley

No joke, I was at work the other day listening to it on repeat non stop?

Tobeck

It was loud as hell in Duluth when he showed up

fonzarelli78

I knew a lady who came from Duluth

NewbieAnglican

Her manners were most uncouth...

nate68978263

As she sits in a booth Sipping vermouth Everyone says she’s a sleuth

ManMangoGuts

Got bit by a dog with the rabid tooth

fonzarelli78

Went to her grave just a little too soon

reposed

I love opposite land where the heels and faces of NJPW flip flop after being in their respective role for so long.

ReflectionItchy2701

The guy in three weeks became their top guy seemingly. Impressive debuts. That promo on the last Dynamite was spectacular. Ospreay feels like the perfect fit and he seems to really be happy to be there.

DG_Now

He's incredible. I hope he didn't just nerf Swerve though...

Black_XistenZ

They need to pull the trigger on Swerve very soon, so that he gets a solid reign in before Wembley.

LeeCountyTiger

I mean, Swerve v Ospreay headlining All In for the title would easily get my money.

Black_XistenZ

That's what I'm thinking, too. But like I said: I want Swerve to get a good title reign which lasts a couple of months.

Leopz_

honestly if Kenny is healthy by then we could very easily get ospreay vs omega and leave will's title win for the year after. although kenny vs okada is a must soon... please get well soon kenny

ReflectionItchy2701

With the way his program with Joe is going, I may be wrong, but I'm almost certain Swerve is gonna win the title at Dynasty.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lostpasts

You'll likely get one to the tune of "Ole! Ole! Ole!" as well.

Aggressive-Mix4971

I \*need\* the crowd to be ready to do it for a Samoa Joe running kick. They tried it during the Punk match, but fans weren't expecting it, so it didn't go like it should.

InfamousSherbert8598

As a BritWres head, it honestly feels weird hearing Ospreay chants when they’re not to that tune

IvivAitylin

You mean we're going to get a surprise appearance by El Generico?

TheKingsdread

Ole, Ole, Ole is a very very common football chant (actual football not that sport thats played with your hands and some weird egg.)

Hype_Magnet

It was a joke

SoftScoopIceReam

least insecure soccer fan

ZJPV1

Could've just said "very common Association Football chant", or shorten that down to a nice, compact "soccer".

JamoOnTheRocks

This dude is a STAR. His entrance, that promo, obviously his work.... BRUV take my money. I will follow this guy to any company, any match for the rest of his career.

Styles_Clash

It Lives, It Breathes salivating at the increase of streaming and royalties

IHavePoopedBefore

I really hope they let him become a full character and not just book him to have matches every week. I am big on him, and Okada. I hope they've learned from past mistakes and build them right

JamoOnTheRocks

The promo on Dynamite last week was all character work. Loved it.

KibaChew

As a wrestling pleb who only ever watched WWE, then started watching along when AEW started, I had no clue who this guy was. And stupid as it sounds, I used to get him and Zack Sabre Jr. confused. That won't happen anymore. I like ZSJ. I LOVE Ospreay.

TheFolksofDonMartino

They need to hurry up and give Swerve a run with the belt because they have a world champion in waiting right here.

ReflectionItchy2701

Yeah Swerve has to win at Dynasty. They have two good top babyfaces with Swerve and Ospreay right now. It's probably the main event at Wembley but will Swerve stay babyface for that feud?

wxursa

You can have Hangman or Jay as a transitional champ between Swerve and Ospreay. Hangman makes storyline sense if he does something really evil to get the belt, Jay would be more sneaky about it, and it would legitimize him. I kinda wish AEW would have their world champions numbered like how NJPW does it, even if Punk would make some of the numbering confusing.

dzone25

He's got some of the most infectious energy I've ever seen in a performer - dude's just made to be a superstar

Unova123

There hasnt been a more clear "This guy will be a superstar 100% "for a long while

LimitlessBearCat

The All In loudness chants in 2024 will surpass the WK one this year

numbr87

It makes sense, Elevated is the greatest theme in all of wrestling

brown_gentleman

He has to win the world title at Wembley if not earlier. I didn't expect him to be this over but omg he's amazing.

BillBrasky727

I think you mean "getting the "OSPREAY, OSPREAY" chant over".

shutts67

Thank you. The title makes it sound like he's bored with the chant

DespyHasNiceCans

He's getting the 'bruv' chant during his promos too. It's like Austin's 'what?' 😄

Kumomeme

also if i not mistaken got Oi! chant at Battle in the Valley.

theh0tt0pic

It's the most exciting thing AEW has had in a long time.

Dengru

Hell yeah

JaePharos

🐐shit

OhNoesMyMangoes

I took my wife to watch wrestle kingdom both last year and thus year - she doesn't follow wrestling at all but she LOVES Will Osprey. The theme is probably the main reason, really - it just hits hard when you're in the audience

SanTheMightiest

It was already over before he got to AEW

chasingit1

I remember his first match on Dynamite (as a NJPW talent at the time). He was kind of over for the hardcore crowd that know of his work in Japan and the Indies, but to the more general/casual audience (yes, even AEW has this to an extent), it was a rather underwhelming reaction. Then he has had a number of matches in AEW before signing and the more casual crowd quickly caught on to the fact that Ospreay is fucking legit. My, how quickly things can change.

CeruleanClaymore

It's hilarious that in the thread that was posted right after this one, people are trying to pretend that bruv isn't charismatic as hell, lol.

Unova123

Anyone pretending that is delusional,he hás that level of charisma you cant teach

ShockOfAges

I only started watching NJPW regularly at WK, and the moment I heard the Ospreay chants, all I could do was pray that the AEW audiences would do it as well as the New Japan ones. Thankfully haven't been disappointed.

rosefuri

he's got the in ring ability of omega with the babyface charm of cody which is pretty insane. he's gonna be huge for AEW.

SMC540

I can't really recall anyone ever get that type of immediate pop on their entrance in AEW like Ospreay did. Maybe Omega early on before he became a heel or Punk more recently. A lot of wrestlers get a good response from the crowd, like Swerve's "Who's house?" and "Joe, Joe, Joe" chants...but very rarely does the place absolutely erupt like they do for Ospreay.

MeanAmbrose

Swerve's got that cool factor of over, his entrance is more methodical and sly-feeling whereas Will's is just a pure face, high energy one.

dasfuzzy

That right there was my favorite part of the night. I've had Elevated as my alarm on my phone for years and being part of that chant gave me goosebumps.

mexploder89

That is one sudden and loud alarm

Versek_5

I had Bobby Roode's Glorious as my alarm for a couple days before I very quickly got sick of being jolted awake by my phone yelling at me with no chill.

fakerandyortonwwe

didn't Konnan label one of his podcasts "AEW CROWD IS ALREADY BORED WITH OSPREAY?"

tmads_

Maybe Konnan should focus on not being a horrible booker and stop commenting on other promotions for a change.

lljkcdw

If that’s true, he can eat my ass. I was lucky enough to go to Revolution, and both Duluth Dynamite and Collision, the crowd went apeshit each night and I definitely saw the Bruv shirts move. Guy is white hot right now.

Slickrob

Doesn't Konnan run a horribly booked promotion and a horribly booked podcast?

CountOff

His theme is so fucking good Has that “you think you know me” style immediate recognizability from those first musical note hits

killabite16

If they do things right bro could be there ace

Makhali

I can hear 3 seconds of his song and be stuck with "Elevated, El, Elevate me to the sky, WOOOO-OAH we're so Elevated. OI!" playing in my head all day long. His theme is such an earworm.

Mark4_

He’s the guy already

[deleted]

Fucking awesome

just-smiley

I've only seen four of his matches and he's already one of my favorites.

DarthNawaf

A star right there.

solelyginger

Getting to chant “Ospreay Ospreay” at Wrestle Kingdom was one of my proudest moment as a wrestling fan. The mutual love and respect the Japanese fans and Ospreay have is so wholesome to witness.

Pennsylvania6-5000

He's over like Rover, Bruv.

Ale506

Is his song available on Spotify?

Dan27

GriffTube

So who does he fight in Wembley? Does Joe hold serve until August, or does MJF come back to recapture his title?

RobsGarage

I really wanted omega vs osprey 3 with omega holding the gold and “passing the torch” but I think osprey / swerve would likely warrant a new level of the star system.

DeathEdntMusic

I just can't get passed the fact he looks like a tiktok kid.

DTFlash

I don't get why every wrestler doesn't have something the crowd can do with them. It always works.

Xenon-XL

Cause if they don't care about you and it flops, you look like a total fool. It's pretty risky.

PleasantThoughts

I feel like it would make it less special but then again people say that about dudes doing flippy moves and I always love those.

floridayum

Dude has megastar written all over him. This will be great for AEW

The_JadynB

Ice rewatched this promo too many times since Wednesday. Just brings me joy

TryBeingCool

Awesome theme and chants. Love Will, he’s prob my new fave wrestler.

MandoRodgers

The Ospreay chant feels like a soccer chant which makes it extra fun to do during this cheeky buggers entrance

alex_119

He’s so contagious he made me use “bruv” on a daily basis at work. He’s special.

chainsawcholo

OSTRITCH OSTRITCH!

WWTFSD

I believe Ospreay will be the guy that carries AEW back to the promised land. Dude is a megastar and both of his matches since debut have been fantastic

Ok_Ad8846

Everyone who likes ospreay was already watching “bruv”

icametoplay4

Factually Innacurate. I know at least one person. Immediately disproved.

chocotaco1981

Ostrich ostrich

Adampro123

Thank god he got Elevated back. Ashes Fill The Sky was a pretty good theme too but Elevated is one of the best themes in wrestling. I wonder if Tony Khan helped Ospreay get it back. He wasn’t able to start using it again until around the time he first worked for AEW. Also if you haven’t yet you should check out his final entrance in Japan and his final send off with the music playing. Just an amazing thing to whiteness.

2128mk

The obvious example of Tony’s music magic-making is “The Final Countdown,” but I feel a duty to remind everyone that he also licensed “Roundball Rock” for no discernible reason at all.

MasSillig

Somebody has to tell Tony to stand at the corner post on the stairs or at least stay in 1 corner. They cut to multiple shots trying to avoid him and still couldn't.

AfroClam

I’ve watched this like 20 times since it aired. Between the song, his energy and the crowd, it’s a good example of how great wrestling can be sometimes as a fan

bigchicago04

Now if only their production guys can get the lighting cues right.

birdazam

He got the singing in UK and this in Japan, I feel like people from US should just do their own thing I don't know.

julictus

our truly American hero!

younginvestor23

I like the replace OLAY OLAY OLAY chants with OSPREAY

Infamaniac23

All my issues with Ospreay as a wrestler aside he’s a fucking star. Dude just looks cool as hell.

Maleficent-Comfort14

Now they just need to the “waoh” part right

TVC011

Hunter fumbled 💔

gmoss101

I literally chant it at my screen in my bedroom lol. Do the crown hand sign and everything

moonslammer93

He’s going to be megastar for AEW.

Tsuku

Wembley is gonna be nuts.

koomGER

Osprey has a great energy and intensity, all of his show ups in AEW so far were bangers. Of the big three AEW did sign over the course of the last year (White, Osprey, Okada), he seems to be the best bet to be leading AEW to a new height. Maybe with White as his heel counterpart. So far i havent seen anything remarkable from Okada. Probably we hear in the next 3-4 weeks that he is currently injured and they limit his in ring action maybe.

Borlos

I like his theme but liked his heel theme better. Osprey was a mega badass heel.

ZeroZelath

This is a repost I swear.

Dementia55372

But reddit told me that no one will know who a wrestler is if their entire life story isn't explained repeatedly by commentary and in multiple video packates

slumpadoochous

Maybe you should read what people actually say instead of arguing what you wish they had.

pm-me-nice-lips

hashtagdion

It helps that they're piping it in. Noticed that with the Sasha Bank CEO chant as well.

10024618

I mean it's not really "piping it in", it's part of the song lol. That'd be like saying that they're piping in the lyrics to Judas every week

hashtagdion

Putting a chant in a song is literally piping it in. There's a difference between putting lyrics in your entrance music and putting a chant in your entrance music.

MatttheJ

Like Seth's music? Or Cody's? Or Moné's? But even still, 90% of what you're hearing is the crowd. You can literally see them in the clip all shouting it.

hashtagdion

I literally said they did it with Mone as well, and below I point out they're also doing it with Seth. Cody and Jericho are fans singing along with a song lyric which is different.

TheDeflatables

Wait ... You think the Cody Woah and the Ospreay chant are entirely different and not comparable?

hashtagdion

No, I didn’t say they were entirely different, nor did I say they weren’t comparable. I said fans singing along to a lyric in a theme is different than piping a chant into a theme.

TheDeflatables

You realize it's the singer just chanting "Ospreay" in the song right? Not a crowd chant added in?

hashtagdion

It doesn't have to be a crowd chant. It's a chant in the song intended to get the crowd to chant as well.

TheDeflatables

Just like Cody's WOAH then

Global-Fix-1345

This is, without a doubt, one of the most smoothbrained takes I've read in a while. If they're part of the entrance, they're not being "piped in" because they're clearly part of the song. The chants are part of the lyrics. [You can just look up the lyrics for yourself.](https://genius.com/It-lives-it-breathes-elevated-lyrics) You are not using the term "piped in" correctly. At all.

hashtagdion

If you put a chant in a song with the goal of getting the crowd to chant it, that's piping it in. Like when WCW famously put the Goldberg chant in Goldberg's entrance music. Compare that to Judas, which is just fans deciding on their own to singing along with the lyrics. Compare to the chants "Joe" chants Samoa Joe gets along with his entrance music. Compare to the "You Suck" chants Kurt Angle got along with his entrance music. If you put something in the song in order to get the crowd to do it, that's piping it in. Objectively. It's not a bad thing so I don't see why y'all are reacting to it like this... They piped in the chant to teach it to the crowd. Not a big deal.

elc1992

But the chant is built into the song as lyrics.

hashtagdion

Doesn't matter. It's like when WCW piped in Goldberg chants.

elc1992

I respectfully disagree, as the song was released and originally made with the chant. If the song came out and then they added the chant in a gap with no lyrics I would agree.

hashtagdion

I don't think it matters when they start piping the chant in. Personally. I'm not even saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying it's a thing that's happening and it's helping the chant get over.

[deleted]

I guess they're piping in Rollins' song with the crowd singing along too then, right? That's literally the exact same thing. A part of the song made to be chanted along with.

hashtagdion

Yes, they are. And that's annoying as fuck.

therealpoatanchama

hey fans please sing my theme here are the lyrics 😭😭

SkrijaTaran

Because the chant is part of the song and being piped through the speakers

braedizzle

Lmao his tron screen graphics couldn’t be more WWE-Esque than they are in this clip.

Infinite-Surprise-53

They'll probably add more when he has more AEW clips

AJ91022

I wonder if they can't use New Japan footage for it

Stiff_Sleeper

I have a low IQ so I appreciate it when people put the chant in the song so I know what to do

eldiablonoche

Im afraid I have some bad news for you about WWE's use of grey noise in their live entrance versions..

HighPlainsDrift_

I've never heard something so obviously piped in. Come on.

givemewhatiwanthunte

Pretty loud for an empty arena

irish0451

It's a shame Tony isn't on the desk to put it over harder, feels like Taz and Ex could have done a better job mentioning it. You know Tony would have given a ***"Listen to this place!"***

HeightStock

You don't have to spell it out lmao They don't treat us like idiots

irish0451

It's their entire job to put this shit over lol

officerliger

Not trying to be a hater cuz I love Ospreay, but these chants sound piped in It sounds like 20,000+ people chanting this in a slam packed building, but on TV it looks like half the crowd isn’t chanting, doesn’t seem nearly as energetic as it sounds either

DaveyMuldowney

Its very clearly a part of the song. Just like the “CEO” part of Mercedes forgettable entrance.

eddiefarnham

Is this a big deal? I mean this in a way that - this is AEW fan's lane. They chant. They want to be part of the show. I think it would be a bigger deal if they didn't chant.

parakathepyro

I thought he was a big name free agent, Shouldn't his chant have already been over?

mikro17

While he's used the song for years, on and off, the crowd chant portion was a pretty recent development in Japan. And while the AEW audience, as a whole, is familiar with Ospreay (via the internet and his previous AEW appearances), the majority of the audience isn't regularly watching his actual New Japan stuff.

used_to_be_wonderful

Were WWE fans doing the WOAH on day one for Cody when he returned?
