I like the dance-punk aspects of Squid a lot more than their traditional post-punk sound. Feels less drab than a lot of the gothic inspired stuff. Squid just keeps their groove better as well compared to other post punk acts. I also prefer the vocals.
black midi is the biggest oddball of the Windmill-associated bands. Personally, Cavalcade is the album that truly sucked me into the bm rabbit hole. Schlagenheim and their non-album single Talking Heads would be the closest you’d get to something like Squid or Dry Cleaning.
black midi is barely post-punk at all but get grouped with post-punk bands anyway and it’s really strange lol. Only reasoning I see for it is because they come from the same venue.
Just like you I couldn't like black midi, but with time I started listening more and more, so today, for me it's so good to listen to it. Took time to get into it but was clearly worth it
Went to see them on Wednesday for the first time, impressive live. I'm hooked on Calvalcade, but that could be some of that naughty Dan Carey infused production that sucks me in every time.
It's funny how the algorithm works...
Personally I like squid a lot more, but I'm also a huge black midi fan. I also just absolutely couldn't get into them when I first heard them and it took a really long time until it finally clicked for me
I love Black Midi! In terms of comparisons to Squid and Dry Cleaning, I would say their debut album is most comparable. After that they depart from that sound completely and go more for a prog rock sound. If you haven't listened to artists like Les Claypool or King Crimson it can be a lot to take in at first.
black midi were kinda similar when they started out but they’re very much their own thing. personally i love them but mostly as a live band (also listen to [martin a](https://youtu.be/w9TtzXh7acM))
I'm not a \*huge\* fan, but I do like Black Midi ( and I LOVE Squid and Dry Cleaning ). [Welcome to Hell](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gskOgyWq-QQ&ab_channel=blackmidi) is bloody amazing, IMHO.
Black midi was my introduction to the windmill scene. Schlagenheim is a lot closer to the squid sound, but cavalcade is my favorite by them.
Personally really like black midi
Personal preference of course. It is clearly a glitch in my matrix

Squid and BM are two of my favorite bands. You should definitely get into BM. FORCE YOURSELF.

Big fan personally. Hellfire truly is a masterpiece.

Was Harry Hill there?
He was indeed, absolutely mental ahaha!

Their debut record still is their best album, maybe try listening to that. But if you just don’t like don’t pressure yourself into liking stuff.
Oh no pressure here just giving something new (to me) a go
