I seriously dont get it. Truffles and radishes are readily accessible, that full heal and have bonus hearts. We can build flying death machines, tanks, laser robot allies, homing arrows..why is having a durian somehow crossing a line with balancing?

I think it's perfectly fine that way tbh. Having a nigh infinite source of full recovery items isn't exactly balanced, and it's not like they're particularly hard to get to begin with. There's plenty of hearty truffles in caves if you look around enough.
I get that. For me though it’s like “enormous growing space! Itty bitty harvest.” Like what’s the point of the huge plot if it grows just a couple items? Would’ve made more sense if they just used the little flower boxes there by the school building. I would have preferred that actually. More mini-quests to unlock maybe a total of three different small plots?
Maybe it's part of the lore of the radishes. Just like different plants irl need different amounts of space to properly grow maybe the radishes need that space. I'm aware I'm most likely thinking too much on it but that's the explanation I'm going with
I haven't tried growing any other crops yet, but I think the yield increases if you grow something else. I think Uma mentions that she's inexperienced with growing radishes, so the yield for those is decreased in order to make it balanced, since hearty radishes are one of the best food items in the game.
Having us be able to plant things in our home garden should definitely be the benefit for end game.
But idk, as i said up above the balancing excuse is silly.. when we can hover above enemies in a death helicopter with homing lasers, use tanks and buff ourselves many other ways.
And if someone feels the easily accesible durians are unbalanced..dont..use them? Haha just silly

I found a cave somewhere that has a crawl tunnel hidden to one side that leads to a room with glowing crystals and around three of almost every mushroom (including truffles). I'd have to get away from work fist, but it's somewhere in hebra.
I JUST FOUND THAT PLACE TODAY TOO! It was after I placed an apple in a little shrine bowl next to a cherry tree. Afterwhich, several glowing pillars appeared, one of which was this cave that you mention.
Sorta reposting this comment again because I never see anyone mention it as an alternative to durians. I see comments about hearty radishes and truffles all the time but those are far more of a pain to get imo:
While they aren't as good, Beedle sells **hearty lizards** for 100 rupees each at a few different stables. They give +4 yellow hearts per lizard, but due to being an elixir it caps out at +16 yellow hearts. Monster part doesn't matter, even a basic boko horn or chuchu jelly gives the same amount of yellow hearts as say a silver lynel horn.
For the locations:
**Foothill Stable** has 5x Hearty Lizards
**Outskirt Stable** has 3x Hearty Lizards
**Woodland Stable** has 1x Hearty Lizard
There is probably one or two other shops with hearty lizards but these three should be good enough, especially if you just save and reload to restock shop at the foothill stable for 5x.
Can restock the shop by waiting for 24 hours in game and then dropping a hard save and then reloading said save.
I literally went to that exact spot because I knew that's where I could get them, and my heart pretty much exploded once I saw those hands coming for me.
This is what I love about the Durian being removed. They could have just reduced the spawns so it wasn’t as farmable. They could have nerfed the effects so it wasn’t as powerful.
But no, they straight up deleted it and put an absolute “fuck you” monster in the farming location.

Tbh you can cook a bunch at once, I guess it depends on how many hearts you have. I have around 18 hearts so I just cook 1 at a time because full health and an extra heart or two is good for me.
Yeah, I just started the game up this week so only at 6 hearts right now. I used to use the durians early game to get like 12 extra hearts or something to take on some of the bigger stuff I wasn't ready for in BOTW.
my head canon is that ganondorf farmed them all to extinction between the opening scenes and link waking up, which is the reason how he got an extra long health bar in phase 2

It seems like lot of the Hearty items, other than truffles, are easier to find on sky islands than on land.
I have yet to see Hearty bass on land but I've seen them on several different islands in the sky. Same with the radishes. They may be on land but they are definitely on some of the harder to reach sky islands.
It definitely made the beginning portion of the game a lot more challenging. It also meant that after getting one extra stamina wheel I dedicated the rest of the shrine work to getting hearts.
While I can still dupe, I’ve been stocking up my Hearty Bass and Hearty Truffle. Miss my hearty durians… I don’t like them irl but atleast it’s Asian produce representation lol.

Which crabs? I thought the only 3 upped attack, stamina, and defense. I use the bass sand salmon and do fine, though.

Beedle also sells hearty lizards pretty consistently, if you got a decent supply of rupees they're only 100 each

Tbh you can cook a bunch at once, I guess it depends on how many hearts you have. I have around 18 hearts so I just cook 1 at a time because full health and an extra heart or two is good for me.
Yeah, I just started the game up this week so only at 6 hearts right now. I used to use the durians early game to get like 12 extra hearts or something to take on some of the bigger stuff I wasn't ready for in BOTW.
