I think spears are the best, but two handed weapons have their merits. The high stun they inflict on large enemies can be a godsend, and, as has been mentioned, the spin attack makes for fantastic crowd controll.
Yes, but if you have to choose the base weapon for your rock hammer, two handed is better. Breaks stuff in one hit almost every time, whereas other weapon types need multiple swings.
The spin attack hits relatively fast, I'd argue its superior to spears on enemies that have long vulnerability windows, but only provided you're using them just during that window.
No kidding. The timing is tricky against faster enemies, but you would be surprised how many huge creatures you can ragdoll lock endlessly with the one-two combo. The third swing is useless and will only get you hit before you can ragdoll them again.
I've been playing the same with just the 2h swords and they're really effective once you get the hang of them.
I use the puffshrooms to cheese huge groups at once
Apparently there are unshowed modified for weapons: one handed -1.0 / two handed- 1.05 / and spear- 0.75. So spears do 3/4 of their listed damage. I haven’t tested it but the sub was pretty thorough. Red bokos have 25 hp. Apparently a 25 power spear won’t one shot them but a 25 one handed will one shot them.
I still love the spears the most.
Royal Halberds were my go to weapon in BotW. I delight in making spear-spears and stabbing everything from a distance. Or I slap a claymore on a broadsword and slash away from behind my shield. I'm a nervous coward and I adore Fuse with my whole being.
Giant boomerang was my go to lawn mower in Botw (always kept one just for that purpose), honestly probably still is in Totk even after making an actual lawn mower
Add a Zonai Glider to it and it goes much farther, without consuming durability. Only downside is that the zonai device breaks eventually.
This is not the case with monster parts (that I've seen). Try Keese, Aerocuda, or Gleeok, and it has the same effect. I don't know if different wings give you more/less distance though, or if it's just a damage increase ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Riju's bodyguard gave me the silliest tip yesterday... the only problem with claymores is the inability to block... so she suggested fusing a shield to a claymore... and I was like... wait a second... I do it, sure enough, you can block with a shield claymore...
The first time I ran into horriblins they wiped the floor with me with their spear-spears. Then, I too learned the path of the spear-spear, and my love affair began. About half my inventory is just spear-spears or black bokoblin spears now.
I love my spin to win blades but honestly the absence of Urbosa's lightning and the addition of Mipha's trident (which is just such an easy and safe way to achieve 150+ damage) makes spears over all way more powerful.
I feel like my [Guru-Guru character playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0XYV3rctIMvtdhEeiaD6eP?si=cc72e914cff44046) I made like a month ago might be relevant here
(I literally wheezed irl when I realized I was on a *Zelda sub* and could, in fact, share it and not look like an idiot lol)
And then hits rapidly on the highest damage stat highest durability weapon class in the game that doesn't end unless you run out of stamina. So never because you can eat stamina food while doing it. You can also tap B to cancel the ending slam attack if you want. I do that a lot so I can pull out a 1 handed fast weapon, and a shield after a spin to win. Normally a freeze weapon or I put a consumable freeze on it. Swap back to 2H a swing for better the bonus shatter hit damage, and then spin to win.
Spears are great, but they have low base damage, and low durability. They tend to break far to quickly, and do a little bit too little damage before they break for me personally. There's some enemies that are a lot easier to deal with with a spear. I like to have one or two, but I honestly prefer the1H, and 2H non-thrusting weapon.
Sword and board is so good in this game. Shields are safe, parries are strong, and you're in range of attacks more often to trigger flurry rushes. I get more flurry rushes with a 1H out than anything else. Somethimes I swap to a 2H during the animation for more damage and/or for the additional stagger so it's safer.
Spears I mostly use for quick elemental applications. They're range and speed makes them better than 1H weapons for this. Though I typically use 1H weapons to do it just because I tend to carry more, and have an elemental spear as a last resort for something hard to hit or if I'm going to die if I don't immediately freeze or shock an enemy. For those situations where range, and speed are the most important.
Thos game does a really good job have make the weapon classes balanced. They all have 2 strengths, and one weakness. They all have an overlapping strength with the other two weapons. Spears, and 1H is fast, Spears and 2H have range, 1H and 2H has durability/base damage. The game does a fairly good job of encouraging the use of all 3 major weapon classes.
Edit: also apparently Spears only do 75% of their listed damage while 2H do 105%.

I use two-handed swords mainly for mining and killing thalus (basically mining).
But I do like the way Link wields two-handed swords. It looks a lot cooler than spears/swords.
Two handed weapons still make lynel killers though, so they have that. ✨Royal guards claymore with +10 DMG fused with a molduga jaw + bone proficiency set buff helps you get to like, 400 DMG if you do it right.
This is true, but i like to have a healthy mix of all three. Two handed weapons for big groups (to hit them all quickly and knock them down), one handed weapons for grounded boss fights (so you can get your shield up quickly), and spears for anything else (flurry rushes, predictable enemies).
Two handed weapons have their merits like crowd control but yeah, in general use the other two categories are leagues better.
I like fusing two hands to the other two weapon types for the range.
Spears: Very fast, high damage, can’t use shield at the same time
Swords: Relatively fast, high damage, can use shield at the same time
Claymores: Relatively slow, same damage, can’t use shield at the same time
So yes. I have yet to fuse a claymore that has high enough damage to be worth using. And I’m 50% completed with the game.
There’s a better form of dps than that on the back of lynels now. >! Molduga jaw with royal claymore badly broken, radiant armor level 2 full set for bone proficiency and attack up 3 meal. !< does insane damage.
Two handed weapons have the same damage as one handed ones now, essentially, so only being able to hit twice is limiting, but they are useful if you’re able to get into a spinny attack.
I think all weapons types have their uses now:
One handed: decent all-rounding attacking speed you don’t have to angle. No gimmicks, and defensive with easy shield access. Has somewhat limited range without charge attack(which is only single hit), and bad as piercing defenses without parry/flurry first. No nonsense to use, reliable. It’s just a bit too slow to dominate enemies if your weapon is weak.
Spears: very safe and fast poking default attack, highest burst DPS when charged. but you need to aim charge attacks properly and it’s bad if you get surrounded.
Two handed: attacks stun and break enemy shield stance. But the default attack is slow and leaves you open. Charge attack is strong with high stamina, but has a windup which is bad if enemies manage to interrupt with. Some enemies like lizalfos can still mess with you. Good vs lynels who don’t flinch anyway and get confuses if you change position when spinning around their legs. But other weapons also can get quite a few shots in now it lost it’s overwhelming power advantage BOTW had.
Overall I want everything on hand most of the time. One-handed is often the simplest to just charge in, and spears now quickly deplete the health of lesser enemies. If you have lacking defenses you pretty much need to switch according the situation to not slip up, the way it should be.
If you have a way to enter the jumping bullet time bows are the strongest weapon in both games though. The hover platform and ascend allows you to pick mobs and lynels apart at your leisure. It’s just that the bows as strong as your best melee weapons and the multishot property are rare until endgame. But they are efficient Lynel killers and self-feed into more strong bowsz
For a bit of added context, playing the game I noticed the base weapons were usually very weak and most of my damage came entirely from mister parts fused to my weapons, so most of the damage output, since the damage difference is only 3 or 4, was caused by the attack speed over the weapon, spears have low base attack but are very fast, two handed weapons are the total opposite and when I pull off a flurry rush I would rather pick or 40 damage spear that hits 13 times , then a 45 damage long sword that hits 4, I noticed a lot of people mentioning the spin attack and yeah overlooking that is on me because I honestly always forget charge attacks exist
That’s not actually how the game calculates it. It applies a modifier. One handed weapons are 1.0, two handed are 1.05, and spears are .75. You can test this with a Bokoblon, it has 25 health. A power 25 sword will kill it, a power 24 two handed will kill it, a power 25 spear will not.
Two-handed weapon + Lizalfos tail is a great weapon for clearing group of enemies with the spin. IMO one-handed weapons are essentially worthless, because spears are better than them against bosses and two-handed are better against groups of trash mobs.
Big weapons do a lot more to interrupt enemies and the charge attack is still the best. Shield's are imo even more important than botw because more things will instant kill you for most of the game so one handers are great. Spears are insanely good for fast damage.
Every weapon type is good in totk.
I find two handed weapons very convenient, they do so much damage most enemies fall back or drop their weapon before they ever get an opportunity to attack. And if they fall back a bit too far the sages beat the shit out of them.
The Zora Spear is legit the best base weapon in the entire game. Fast, high damage (that becomes even higher when it's wet), ridiculous durability... you really can't beat it! If I can't find (or don't feel like finding) Zora Spears, my next choice is the sturdy long stick. Their low base damage isn't too much of a negative since you can fuse whatever to them, and they're also pretty durable.
And yeah, I only keep a couple two-handeds in my inventory, and they're both usually just for breaking rocks. They're way too slow to be useful in actual combat. They used to be somewhat worth it in BOTW since all you got was base weapons, and the most destructive ones in the game were two-handeds. But now, since you can just take a good spear and fuse a Lynel horn or something to it, they're really kinda useless.
Two handed tend to have higher durability while spears break fast, I find it balances out in the long run even if I tend to favor spears, it’s all situational. If you rely on spears against bokoblins you’ll not typically have enough of them to also fight the bosses and the rock-likes and the horribilins, diversity of tactics is always important!
We've actually discovered the weapon types have invisible damage modifiers. Spears deal 25% less damage per hit than listed and greatswords deal 5% more.
This is probably why the "reveal healthbar numbers" effect is gone, Nintendo don't want to confuse people and prefer this kind of thing to be under the hood.
So, while my preference is still for spears, spin to win is still ideal for damage
Turns out there’s actually some hidden damage values, so spears are the weakest weapon type. I think it said they deal 0.75 of their DMG number, Two handed deals 1.1, and one handed does 1.0
I only use two handed weapons in the proving grounds shrines. Sprint + Swing knocks down all the robots so you can chain CC them and make it easier to survive with less. I hate them otherwise.
Two handed is great for foraging. Two hits at most on a tree or ore and its down. In combat I love the large arcs catching multiple enemies and knocking them far away
I tried to fight a silver lynel with a two hander, a scythe I made from lizal horn and royal claymore and I was getting wrecked. I then switched to a one handed weapon. I instantly clean him. The main use I find for two handers is enemy camps and boss bokos, because seldom can they react before you knock them down with a second strike. Spears don't offend a great area and I find myself running away from groups of enemies because Z-targeting stops me from offending the others. I feel like that is the trade off.
Two handed weapons are good for the spin attack and has felt really strong when used in combination with a freeze rod or other ice weapons first cuz once you start spinning they’re stun locked and it does a ton of damage
I've officially sworn off two-handed weapons.
Spears or swords only for me.
Too slow, dps has meh.
A wet Zora spear with a lynel horn feels a lot better than a slow ass sword.
I like to ping a boss boko in the face to stun it then start a charge attack with a two handed behind it. Then I just go in circles around the boss to dodge incoming attacks and all the lil guys swarm me and get caught up in it. The sages tend to help keep some of the attacks off of me so one fused royal claymore can take out a group of bokos quick and painfully (for them). Meanwhile, I just Cannot seem to get a handle on how to use Spears effectively. I keep seeing those Massive attack stats but no big damage while fighting.
For me they serve different niches:
Onehander: Master sword, schmitar of the seven, magic rod (freeze op), and a hand cannon (sturdy stick + zonai cannon) cuz blowing things up is hella fun
Twohander: Spin to win sustained dps output. Also mining and tree chopping utility
Spear: Royal halberds for flurry rush. Soldier's spear charged attack is hella fun too but probably lose out to spin to win and schimitar of the seven in terms of dps
With all these said, the biggest winner of fuse is definitely bow
Honestly that was my opinion in BOTW but it's been exacerbated in TOTK. Even the spin attack element of two-handed for me is tough because a lot of times with the bosses in TOTK I'm running up to them to try to get to their weak spot before the stun runs out, and my haste can make it hard to start the spin attack up. Fighting hoards with spin attack can have a similar problem, because even enemies without ranged weapons will pick up a rock to throw and disrupt my spin. Not saying it's useless, just much less rewarding for me.
True, but two handed are still kings for crowd control. Just put an element on a knight's claymore and start spinning. Enemies won't be able to do a thing.
I feel like I rarely use spears unless I’ve fused another spear to them. They just don’t do enough stun for me to manage the enemy. Especially now that I’ve played long enough for white enemies to consistently spawn in multiples
Two handed weapons, even with low damage will ensure a consistent stun lock. Spears don’t offer that for me. I basically only ever use spears against bosses since two handed weapons don’t stun them anyways
i prefer one handed because of shields but two handed charge is very strong very fast damage with a strong area attack i wills at tho with most damage coming from the fuse weapon got makes two handed weapons inferior to spears because they no longer have the massive damage advantage
I'm still at earlyish game and I had a Royal Guard's Claymore fused with black Lizalfol Horn, at 56 damage, and it doubles at 112 when it's close to breakage. I used that on Lynels back.
In my case I feel like I never use one handed swords outside of the Master Sword/Gerudo Scimitar/Scimitar of the Seven
Spears have really turned into a powerhouse (and I prefer playing ranged) and two handed swords are useful on a lot of things
they should have just buffed all the base two handed weapons, fusing blurs the line between the three weapon groups too much its hard justifying using anything but a spear most times. (i pref swords tho to actually make use of my shields) maybe a guaranteed durability+ on all two handed swords you pick up, you more often then not relegate them to rock smashing anyways, and i expect all big swords to be more robust
I prefer one handed weapons because then i can use my shield easily. My husband loves two handed weapons because who needs a shield when you can just spin around a bunch of times and take the enemy out. I find i switch to two handed when I'm fighting gleeoks because i can shoot them from the sky then get between two heads and just spin, but basically everything else i want my shield.
Man, reading these comments I feel like i'm missing out! I've had no problem throughout the game using only "Reapers" (single handed weapon plus strong monster/construct horn). Seems boring by comparison.
Spin to win still works. Enemies will generally just stand there while you dump three stamina wheels into them, and if they don't you can reposition yourself while still doing damage. Also, as far as utility goes, two handed axes and hammers will smash and chop more effectively than one handed ones.
But yeah, spears are busted now.
Nah because of you get a royal claymore ready to break with a high end fuse it will do 200 dmg. Then if you only use it to backstab lynels when you mount them, it will never break and also kill silvers in fewer than 6 hits with maxed armor on
I never liked the two handed because I couldn’t have the shield out at the same time. I’m not as fast or good as most who likely post on this sub. Just fat fingering my way through and enjoying it haha
I’m happy with being able to make spears amazing now I loved using them in BOTW but power wise I stuck with two handed and now that I can make it as strong as I really want I always prioritize spears
At the start of things I only ever fused big slow weapons to the smaller ones so they'd have big whomps but fast attack speed. I've noticed I have a harder time dodging mid-fight if I'm using the big weapons.
I really miss the two handed spin attack from BOTW, where you could double the amount of hits you deliver by simply facing away from the enemy before you start the spin.
- Spears are best against mobs. Fast with high range.
- Two-handed weapons are best for punishing stunned bosses. Spin-to-win with max stamina usually does the most damage.
- One handed is best if you want to also have your shield out. Best for enemies whose move-sets you haven't yet learned, so you can block while you figure out their moves.
Two handed weapons are a lot less useful in TOTK. I’m botw you can spin your way to success in fighting guardians but there’s not many enemies you can do that with in this game.
Nah, 2-handers are great for bosses. Pretty much every world boss can be stunned in some way, at which point you can just walk up and start spinning. Highest dps out of any weapon type, assuming you have the stamina to maintain it.
They have by far the best charge attack and they can still easily stagger enemies. They may have the worst damage output but they’re still good. I would say one handed is the worst since they have poor range, aren’t as fast as spears, and don’t stagger easily. But all three weapon types are fairly balanced imo.
Depends on buffs that are stacked at the time. Like I used a two handed zora sword fused with a silver lynel’s blade I think it was, then hit myself with a splash fruit to double the damage so I was sitting at around 90, then I ate a level three damage buff meal. Never seen a hinox die so fast.
Not sure, but I do know I naturally tend towards spears over two handers. They’re just too slow, and the reach of spears is overpowered (I get absolutely bloodied by bokoblins with long sticks while I’m trying to wind up my two hander, which animation cancels me and leaves me underpowered in the fight).
I think spears are the best, but two handed weapons have their merits. The high stun they inflict on large enemies can be a godsend, and, as has been mentioned, the spin attack makes for fantastic crowd controll.
Spin to win is so satisfying in group combat
My strategy so far is to parry an attack then spin to win, most normal enemies just sit there while being hutu
Spin to win perfectly between two crystals on a Frox's back? Beautiful.
Two-hander with Lizalfos tail fused gives you crazy reach for spinning attack.
Ooooo that’s a neat trick
It’s kind of like those party favors that extend. V funny.
It's just insanely effective.
Happy cake day 🥳
Thanks!
Or just against big enemies like Molduga and Frox.
The garen/juggernaut strat.
And the spin attack melts frox when you learn where to position.
They also break stuff better like boxes, metal boxes, ores ect
Boxes and ore depend more on the fused material than the base weapon. Best to always carry a boulder weapon at all time.
Yes, but if you have to choose the base weapon for your rock hammer, two handed is better. Breaks stuff in one hit almost every time, whereas other weapon types need multiple swings.
Something to note (minorly) that attack power also matters: silver horriblin horn on a one handed weapon with attack up armor breaks in one hit, too.
I just glue all boxes together and lift them up in the air to break them.
Froxes? Froxs? Froxi?
Froxen
Many much Froxen! In the depes… depthses… depthenesen!!!
I saw a flocksen of them walksenesen
The big yellow one is the sun
Forsen
Can confirm. In Magic: the Gathering, the plural of Mox is Moxen.
I think using Latin endings like that last one results in Froces
Froxson and Done
And they have a higher skill cap, so if you're looking for a challenge it's fun
The spin attack hits relatively fast, I'd argue its superior to spears on enemies that have long vulnerability windows, but only provided you're using them just during that window.
No kidding. The timing is tricky against faster enemies, but you would be surprised how many huge creatures you can ragdoll lock endlessly with the one-two combo. I use the puffshrooms to cheese huge groups at once
Yup. There is no reason to lose a 1 on 1 fight with a 2 handed weapon if you attack first.
plus knocking a shield off an enemy has a certain satisfaction, specially when fighting the boss bokoblins
If you guys are worried about two-handed defense, just fuse a shield to it and you can block/parry with it(I’d use an a non-decayed weapon for damage)
Apparently there are unshowed modified for weapons: one handed -1.0 / two handed- 1.05 / and spear- 0.75. So spears do 3/4 of their listed damage. I haven’t tested it but the sub was pretty thorough. Huehue, soldier broadsword + any claymore makes the ultimate rice/wheat farming tool. Took me like 10 minutes to get 50 of each.
Giant boomerang was my go to lawn mower in Botw (always kept one just for that purpose), honestly probably still is in Totk even after making an actual lawn mower

THATS HOW YOU GET RICE/WHEAT??! Oh my god I’m a dumbass I played BotW for 200 hours and forgot this…
Riju's bodyguard gave me the silliest tip yesterday... the only problem with claymores is the inability to block... so she suggested fusing a shield to a claymore... and I was like... wait a second... I do it, sure enough, you can block with a shield claymore...
Yes, but then they do share an hp pool, meaning your weapon breaks super easy if you are blocking with it.
What
Same! I loved those things.
Fellow “nervous coward” here, spear+spear is awesome!
The hands make me whimper, Lynels still make me shriek, and if I cant hide somewhere and cheese I nope out.

I look back fondly on chopping Guardian legs off one at a time, then shooting their eyes out.
The first time I ran into horriblins they wiped the floor with me with their spear-spears. Then, I too learned the path of the spear-spear, and my love affair began. About half my inventory is just spear-spears or black bokoblin spears now.

how do you get 150?
I’m assuming using splash fruits to keep yourself constantly wet, then fuse with a 48 attack item and have at it Edit: 53, i’m bad at math
Sidons ability
Two handed weapons can attack just as fast using the great spin.
Are you saying that spinning is a good trick that we should try?

Git gud.
Are you 14?
Are you asked that so often you think you can use it as a comeback? And straight to the sockpuppet voters.

Did you try a spear + shield?

Attach a 2 handed weapon to one of the skeleton arms.. you get a one handed weapon with the 2 handed damage and a 20 point damage bonus from the arm.
but doesn’t the arm break in like 10 hits
not in my experience.. the fusion seems to increase it
I saw in another thread that fusing in general adds about 25 hits to a weapon before it breaks
can you fuse multiple times for infinite durability?
Doesn't seem like it. Once a weapon gets that first time fuse boost, that's it.
Correct, both weapons break when durability runs out
Fusing adds durability, but the skeletal arms all share second place for the worst durability of any weapon in the game.
Counterpoint: Big weapons go spinny.
70% of my combat in both BotW & ToTK is 2-handed spin attack.
Spears: Very fast, high damage, can’t use shield at the same time Swords: Relatively fast, high damage, can use shield at the same time Claymores: Relatively slow, same damage, can’t use shield at the same time So yes. I have yet to fuse a claymore that has high enough damage to be worth using. And I’m 50% completed with the game.
RGC + Silver Lynel Saber Horn: "What is my purpose?" Link: "You repeatedly bonk the back of a Lynel while I am mounted on it."
There’s a better form of dps than that on the back of lynels now. >! Molduga jaw with royal claymore badly broken, radiant armor level 2 full set for bone proficiency and attack up 3 meal. !< does insane damage.
Until it's patched I suppose
Biggoron's Sword + Silver Lynel Saber Horn tho
Also Fierce Diety Sword + Silver Lynel Saber Horn
Lasts forever and hits like a truck
Claymores are for crowd control.
Claymores are for mining. 1 hit break on all ores. Kills talus and frox faster too
Anything can be for mining depending on the fuse material.
I’m only replying because your reply was 1 minute ago
Spear + shield = spear that can use a shield at the same time
Two handed weapons have the same damage as one handed ones now, essentially, so only being able to hit twice is limiting, but they are useful if you’re able to get into a spinny attack.
2 handed weapons should be used solely for spin to win.
tell me you don't two-hit lock stun enemies with two handed weapons without actually telling me you don't
Did you mean to say stunlock?
this is only true for flurry rush. spin attacking is so op for hitting groups and dealing dps
They’re perfect for taluses, one-hit mining and woodcutting but otherwise I stick with one-handeds otherwise I die way too easily
I think all weapons types have their uses now: One handed: decent all-rounding attacking speed you don’t have to angle. But they are efficient Lynel killers and self-feed into more strong bowsz
great spinning with lynal claymore on bosses that have two hitboxes feels good, Don't know how far off the damage from spears is though
Base damage numbers rarely matter since later into the game most of you damage is coming from fused parts
I hardly ever use spears
i have no spears in my inventory. it’s like 70% one handed weapons and 30% two handed weapons and no spears
i think having a spin is still good for lots of enemies or larger enemies, and for fighting taluses and other bosses
Wait until you try out spear charge attacks for dps windows
That’s not actually how the game calculates it. It applies a modifier. One handed weapons are 1.0, two handed are 1.05, and spears are .75. You can test this with a Bokoblon, it has 25 health. A power 25 sword will kill it, a power 24 two handed will kill it, a power 25 spear will not.
I know I just found out
Anyone try putting lizalfos tail on a boomerang yet? Gives it a huge aoe.
If you're using a heavy weapon you gotta spin. If you aren't spinning or flurry rushing, use something else
I find two handed weapons very convenient, they do so much damage most enemies fall back or drop their weapon before they ever get an opportunity to attack. And if they fall back a bit too far the sages beat the shit out of them.
TF you mean, Spin To Win is great
The thing is I like the look/feel of sword + shield and I like the ability to block/parry
2 handed weapons have way less DPS now, but their ability to floor most enemies and toss everything around like ragdolls makes them pretty great
I personally like to use two handed weapons vs moblins, you just delay the hit right before he gets up and its basicly a chain knockdown.
I think it said they deal 0.75 of their DMG number, Two handed deals 1.1, and one handed does 1.0
Yes, it’s a problem
I have never used a spear in totk unless it was the only thing I could attach a rock to in order to break other rocks
I only use two handed weapons in the proving grounds shrines. Sprint + Swing knocks down all the robots so you can chain CC them and make it easier to survive with less. I hate them otherwise.
I always go with two handed swords so I can still have a shield. Not having a shield can really get you stuck in bad spots.
The spin attacks destroy bosses when they are vulnerable with two handed weapons
Two handed is great for foraging. Two hits at most on a tree or ore and its down. In combat I love the large arcs catching multiple enemies and knocking them far away
Fuse allows you to fuse claymores to one-handed swords, improving attack speed, while maintaining range and power.
i use the two handed weapons on big single enemies like moblins cuz it knocks them down and that stops them from kicking me in the face
High damage 2h weapons with spin absolutely shred most bosses. I find all weapons have a good place personally
Yeah but don’t sleep on one handed swords with spears attached
Found one fused by a monster, a royal guard spear with claymore fused to it. I was rather impressed
I love doing a smasher two hander. Just spin on a frox back for easy zonaite.
actually yes.. i love my spears and are glad theyre kinda meta
I think I should start actually using my spears and not just throw them and attach them to wooden planks lol
Two handed weapons are good for the spin attack and has felt really strong when used in combination with a freeze rod or other ice weapons first cuz once you start spinning they’re stun locked and it does a ton of damage
Royal claymores are pointless. Soldier’s Claymores are great. Spin forever.
My logic is this Swords and Spears: Better flurry rushes and quicker hits Two-Handed Weapons: Spin to win babeeyyyy
For me they serve different niches: Onehander: Master sword, schmitar of the seven, magic rod (freeze op), and a hand cannon (sturdy stick + zonai cannon) cuz blowing things up is hella fun Twohander: Spin to win sustained dps output. Also mining and tree chopping utility Spear: Royal halberds for flurry rush. Soldier's spear charged attack is hella fun too but probably lose out to spin to win and schimitar of the seven in terms of dps With all these said, the biggest winner of fuse is definitely bow
it's alright cause I found spears to be shit in botw, nice change of pace
Two handers are fused with stone/boulders. Their one goal is to break boxes, mineral veins and barrels.
Spears have always been great for low hp enemies. Two handers have their places, as well. I prefer spears and 1 handers, personally, always have.
Two handed can be useful in some situations but in comparison to how they were in BOTW they suck
Me am do break rocks.
I just spin with the Barb armor
Well you guys wanted realism right? Spears and piles have always been the most effective battlefield weapons 😂
No, I prefer two-handed weapons.
Spin attack with double handed weapons is the best move in all of the game
The spears honestly might be my favorite weapons in this game lol
yes. i only keep about one or two two handed fuse on hand for breaking rocks
I like 2 handed weapons sometimes. Spinning around is very fun
If you are surrounded by mobs they can be very useful. They're also super good when fighting large enemies like a Talus or Hinox
I feel like I rarely use spears unless I’ve fused another spear to them. They just don’t do enough stun for me to manage the enemy. Especially now that I’ve played long enough for white enemies to consistently spawn in multiples Two handed weapons, even with low damage will ensure a consistent stun lock. Spears don’t offer that for me. I basically only ever use spears against bosses since two handed weapons don’t stun them anyways
If they didn’t have jump attack or spin attack, they’d be worthless.
i prefer one handed because of shields but two handed charge is very strong very fast damage with a strong area attack i wills at tho with most damage coming from the fuse weapon got makes two handed weapons inferior to spears because they no longer have the massive damage advantage
I'm still at earlyish game and I had a Royal Guard's Claymore fused with black Lizalfol Horn, at 56 damage, and it doubles at 112 when it's close to breakage. I used that on Lynels back.
No. You can one shot a hinox with the spin attack with a 40ish attack with the spin attack if you have a decent amount of stamina. The spin is insane.
**Spin**
In my case I feel like I never use one handed swords outside of the Master Sword/Gerudo Scimitar/Scimitar of the Seven Spears have really turned into a powerhouse (and I prefer playing ranged) and two handed swords are useful on a lot of things
I really like the 2 handers for their running swing.
they should have just buffed all the base two handed weapons, fusing blurs the line between the three weapon groups too much its hard justifying using anything but a spear most times. (i pref swords tho to actually make use of my shields) maybe a guaranteed durability+ on all two handed swords you pick up, you more often then not relegate them to rock smashing anyways, and i expect all big swords to be more robust
Not worthless at all. Spears are glass cannons, 2 handed weapons are damage/crowd control
2 handed weapon that can spin is far better than the one that only charge and hit once. It's my to-go weapon for gleeok
Love spinning with the 2 handers, particularly on most Talus
Nah because of you get a royal claymore ready to break with a high end fuse it will do 200 dmg. Then if you only use it to backstab lynels when you mount them, it will never break and also kill silvers in fewer than 6 hits with maxed armor on
The spin attack, especially with a set that reduces charge attack stamina drain, is super super good
I never liked the two handed because I couldn’t have the shield out at the same time. I’m not as fast or good as most who likely post on this sub. Just fat fingering my way through and enjoying it haha
Two handed weapons for chopping wood/mining ores Edit: oh yeah and spin goes brrr
I’m happy with being able to make spears amazing now I loved using them in BOTW but power wise I stuck with two handed and now that I can make it as strong as I really want I always prioritize spears
2 handers can spin2win tho
Spears are the best generalist weapon imo. Two handers are for spinning for big damage on downed boss level stuff.
Either way, I love my spears. It's just so satisfying to do a flurry rush and go crazy stabbing monsters.
I went from never using spears in Botw to almost always having a Zora spear on hand in TOTK
I found myself using spears much more in totk
- Spears are best against mobs. Fast with high range. - Two-handed weapons are best for punishing stunned bosses. Spin-to-win with max stamina usually does the most damage. - One handed is best if you want to also have your shield out. Best for enemies whose move-sets you haven't yet learned, so you can block while you figure out their moves.
Spears fused with beam-emitters are my favorite weapons to use
Spears were already my best weapons in BOTW
Not sure, but I do know I naturally tend towards spears over two handers. They’re just too slow, and the reach of spears is overpowered (I get absolutely bloodied by bokoblins with long sticks while I’m trying to wind up my two hander, which animation cancels me and leaves me underpowered in the fight).
Two handed weapons worthless? Clearly OP isnt aware of spin to win.
I forgot
i literally never use spears and almost always 2 handed weapons
Two handed weapons have always been like this. You will always be at a tactical disadvantage
