Chastik

Yeah cool, it's time to come back

BoredCatalan

Was Wagner working for the airlines all along?

Chastik

Nope

JVJV_5

but due to his actions, there were more ticket sales

Chastik

This is just collateral damage. The main idea is different.

JVJV_5

but how can that be? surely they must be in cahoots.

Chastik

Guided by the same logic I may come to a conclusion that Putin worked with airlines in September. But lol

lastdiggmigrant

They're being facetious.

Chastik

Who they?

TheCaracalCaptain

my dude you have been hit with the classic r/sharksaresmooth edit: forgot blackout was happening, just look up sharks are smooth

SRX33

That sounds reasonable. There must be a bigger plot happening behind the curtains.

mawktheone

Al Qaeda were in league with Amtrak! Follow the money people

GenuisInDisguise

It was Wagner! It was Wagner! It was Wagner All Along!

Traumerlein

Not really. There is going to be a lot of political falout and unless you need to be present to profit staying away from moskau is going to be your best health insurance.

Chastik

I've stayed away from Moscow long enough. My place is here

Traumerlein

you do you guy. Just bring a good helmet

LittleRickyPemba

Spoken like a billionaire descending to the wreck of the Titanic, in a tin can.

Eddyzodiak

Not to insult op or nothing but is Ukrainska Pravda the best source?

negrote1000

Nope

demonspawns_ghost

>In July 2021, the Russian activist Alexander Ionov demanded the Russian government to designate IStories as a "foreign agent". On 20 August 2021, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation designated the legal entity of IStories, IStories fonds, and its journalists Anin, Shmagun, Alesya Marokhovskaya [ru], Roman Shleynov (Роман Шлейнов), Irina Dolinina [ru], Dmitry Velikovsky (Дмитрий Великовский) as "foreign agents". In 2021, IStories closed its operations in Russia. Yup.

Pyrhan

That's simply what Russia has been doing to any news source that isn't directly or indirectly controlled by the Kremlin in past years. "Designated as a foreign agent" simply means "Not a Kremlin mouthpiece" at this point.

demonspawns_ghost

>Alexander Ionov was charged by a US Dept. of Justice indictment unsealed on July 29, 2022. He is accused of working on behalf of the Russian government and in conjunction with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and orchestrating a years-long foreign malign influence campaign that used various U.S. political groups to sow discord, spread pro-Russian propaganda, and interfere in elections within the United States. That's just how it goes.

why_i_bother

Hmm, if I compare credibilities, I know who I trust less.

Minister_for_Magic

And yet some countries call **everything** that doesn't 100% match the government line "propaganda" while others allow for *some measure* of dissent. As with all things, degree matters.

from_dust

We've always been at war with Eastasia...

Decentkimchi

Why have you though? I can understand your government doing it, but why have you?

why_i_bother

Yeah, somehow it's question of nation security, to make few hundred people outside Russia think, that there's no more space on flights from Moscow. I wonder what they meant by this.

JePPeLit

That just makes them sound more credible

demonspawns_ghost

Do you believe Russia Today is credible simply because it was banned in the U.S.?

JePPeLit

Nope, because USA doesnt ban everyone who disagrees with the government

demonspawns_ghost

Right, they just label them far-right conspiracy theorists or Russian assets.

JePPeLit

Glad you get it

demonspawns_ghost

By the way, you should go read about the "Twitter Files".

pickledwhatever

RT isn't banned in the US and whataboutism is lame.

Sharlach

Flight info is public knowledge. How do you think people track all those billionaire jets? You can verify it yourself if you so choose. A little bit of skepticism is healthy, but you may as well be asking for proof the sky is blue. The original source is Russian as well.

mschuster91

It's a bit more murky. ADS-B relies on the honesty of everyone involved and the fact that messing around with it is a serious crime almost everywhere in the world - but similar to AIS, it's marine equivalent, there's nothing stopping even a moderately skilled radio amateur from broadcasting their own faked beacon data. No digital signatures, no encryption, nothing. The way these things work is decades old technology - an air- or watercraft has a GPS unit onboard and continuously broadcasts its position, identifier, heading, speed, altitude and other information, which is a legal requirement in many parts of the world. Other vehicles as well as control stations or radio amateurs in a range of up to 300-400km can then pick up the signal and generate real-time maps. These can then be used for anything from surveillance over flight / navigation planning to collision avoidance - the latter has independent systems aboard aircraft as well though, so even a control station fuck-up, outage or whatever doesn't pose a danger to anyone. And as you can guess, there have been issues with it all the time. Military vehicles are allowed to turn the broadcast off, pirates and illicit fishers do it to avoid being tracked, and malicious agents plant false leads.

okusername3

So how would you fake the departure of a big number of elite aircraft?

mschuster91

You'd generate fake waypoints and broadcast them on ADS-B, either from one or more ground stations or from a small aircraft if you want it to be picked up from more far-away receivers.

okusername3

Ok, I guess one could coordinate several stations to cover the range, but wouldnt all the ATC stations scream that there's a mismatch? And what about the destination airports? I'm not convinced...

B-dayBoy

They seem to be a reliable source but many of their articles def have a motive. So you can use them for info but not for reason.

Nethlem

They are about as reliable as Russia Today or Radio Free Europe are.

thefunyunman

Thought I was in r/worldnews with these sources

stinkload

I am more than a little confused by this. Can anyone explain whathis means? *"Vladimir Putin's Il96-300PU, which is equipped with army control equipment, flew from Moscow to St Petersburg. The aircraft disappeared from the radar near Tver in Russia.* *In addition, the second presidential plane, a Tu-214PU, departed from Moscow to St Petersburg at 14:44, which is also equipped in case of war. It disappeared from the radar over the Russian town of Gatchina."*

amaxen

It 'disappeared' because they turned off the transponders.

stinkload

that is what I thought, so they thought their own armed forces might shoot it down if they could find it? is that what is happening here?
