Not overreacting at all. I once used the term “brain fart” in an email to explain my absentmindedness. It was a fairly casually written email to a couple of folks I was on friendly terms with—or so I thought. I didn’t realize also on the thread was a director, who got terribly offended at my choice of words. My manager had to have a talk with me. This was after I’d been at the company about 7 years and had a spotless track record. It was also brought up several months later in my annual review. Over “brain fart.” 🤦🏻‍♀️

I had a similar experience. Among the dozens of emails that I sent in a day, someone took offense to something I said. I have no idea who or what it was, but I heard that shit every year at review time for 5 years. On year 6, my boss started that sentence again. I stopped him and told him that if he said another word without showing me the email, then we're getting up and going to HR this very minute. That was the last time it's been mentioned.

No, that’s some bullshit. You weren’t swearing in front of clients or customers, so it really shouldn’t matter.

Thanks for this

Most of the jobs I've worked, they didn't care so much about language unless we were in front of a client or customer. I'm guessing we haven't been in the sake fields.
