I read once that cats have a sense that we can’t understand. It’s like a combination of a smell and a taste. That’s probably what it was! So I ask my cats “what did you smaste?” (Smell/taste). I want them to feel like I understand them 😂
One of our cats has a strange obsession with fresh dill flowers, so I grow them for him. He can't stop smelling and nibbling them when offered to him, but he has this look on his face with a wrinkled nose the whole time. "Oh man, this smell is too strong and weird. But I looove it..." He acts like he can't get enough, but his face says it's almost too much for him.
Further … the vomeronasal organ responsible for this heightened smell response is located near the front of the roof of the cats mouth. Also called Jacobson’s organ. Neat!

My cat usually makes it while cleaning herself, my guess to check her own pheromones.
