Put a rubber glove or balloon over your reservoir cap. If it fills up completely it's very likely you have a bad head gasket. My unprofessional opinion is that your head gasket is in fact bad.
Hate to say this but that looks like a blown head gasket to me. Looks like combustion gasses are making its way into the coolant/radiator. I would get a block tester if you don’t have one. Sorry to hear that man. Best of luck.
It would be easier to just replace the head gasket than to get a block tester as I've never seen one where I live, it seems my only option is to get a head gasket and replace it anyway, I just needed some confirmation, thanks a lot.
Do not do this. This dummy has no clue what hes talking about and theres a reason head gaskets are usually made of high temp compound or metal vs latex or plastic that cant handle any sort of heat.
Why do people like you throw out idiotic info that could ruin someones day when you are painfully clueless
No visible leak upon inspection, if I don't run the car for some time, the moment it revs white smoke comes out of the exhaust, but other than that exhaust doesn't have any color.
That's how mine started. It later began to overflow the reservoir tank and blew the hoses up like balloons. It's a good sign that there's no oil in the coolant, though. Not recommended, but I drove with a blown gasket for months before fixing it.
It's funny because it's been months that I drive like that, I just refill the coolant reservoir and I'm good for a few weeks, I think it may have something to do with the previous owner using tap water instead of coolant.
Jack up the front of the car and make sure it’s not air in the cooling system. I don’t know what kind of work you have done prior to this video. Hondas are good about trapping air in the system .
If you put the cap on the radiator and the radiator hoses get a lot of pressure quickly then yeah I would say head gasket. Also check your oil. Don’t think anything is mixing yet. But maybe it can tell you more
You can get a glove, put a rubber band on it, and put it over your coolant filler after the vehicle has sufficiently warmed up. If the glove expands, and gives you a 'wave', then it's a blown head gasket.
Not really looking like a headgasket fail, that thing would look worse if it really is a head gasket but if you are topping coolant every now and then, then probably leaking coolant but not from the headgasket but from the intake manifold gasket.
Besides the #4 intake hole, there is a square hole that coolant passes from the head to thru the manifold to god knows where, if that gasket is broken around there, coolant is gonna enter the number #4 intake in very little quantities and burned in the combustion cycle and you wouldn't even notice it.
This is what happened to me in the past. This is for D series and probably B series dont think the k series has this but don't really know
I made my own intake manifold gasket from thick paper gasket, I'm pretty sure I did a good job, the material used is also water resistant (that's on the label), so I guess it shouldn't break overtime, also no visible leak from the outside of the gasket, but now I kind of don't know since aftermarket ones have an o-ring where the coolant flows.
You could inqure about somebody in a position to do do to ship you an aftermarket gasket?
Its only $40~ could that even be possible? Are there embargos for stuff going to morroco?
I can buy from aliexpress as I did with many parts, I just checked and the gasket costs less than 20$ shipping included, but those don't have the o-ring where the coolant is supposed to flow, also not sure I'd need it unless I check mine and find out it's faulty.
I told them that I have done what you did too….they couldn’t believe me. Oh well, it works and you know and I know it does.

If the hose that leads to the radiator is quite hard when the car is working it is definitely a blown head gasket. It's not unusual that civics blow a gasket.
Yeah the upper hose. When you close that lid and let the car idle for a few minutes, if it is hard it's definitely a blown gasket, if not, then you could be a lucky one.
Yep that's a possibility, but the coolant empties very slowly, over the course of 2/3 weeks to refill the reservoir tank, and the bubbles are varied in size, can go from big to multiple small bubbles, so idk.
Could be a blown head gasket. The D series don't have your typical symptoms. I drive an '05 Civic coupe with a d17a2 and mine started out like yours. I wasn't seeing any smoke out the exhaust or any type of oil and coolant mixture, but my reservoir would slowly overflow until I started overheating almost every day and coolant would shoot out from the reservoir. I drove it like that for an entire year (and overheated the absolute piss out of it a couple times) before I finally had time to fix it. I used to take a hand transfer pump and pump the excess coolant from the reservoir back into the radiator before long drives. I also used to have to drive with the heat on full blast, even in the summer. Good times 😂
The good thing is, if you decide to replace the head gasket, the D series are cheap to fix and are excellent motors to learn on.
I get the same symptoms as you had, the only difference being the coolant reservoir empties over time, and my car doesn't overheat.
Yep, a head gasket job on D series doesn't look hard at all, just need a torque wrench, if I had to replace it I decided to do it myself (seems fun to do also xD).
I would hate to have the head warped, I have hopes it's not the case, my car has never overheated since I bought it, it was running cold if anything and then it ran fine after I replaced the thermostat.
Probably just a small leak in the gasket starting to form it will get worse over time , when u do end up replacing the gasket make sure you get a machine shop to machine the cylinder head surface otherwise it will just fail again in short order
Even if the car has never overheated since I bought it? I suspect the tap water the previous owner was using is the cause for that leak in the head gasket.
You could use a solid cardboard piece as a gasket.Use the head as a template place the cardboard (one complete piece) on the head and then take a lead pencil and cover the cardboard with it. You will have a near perfect gasket once you cut the excess cardboard off.
There's kits with a fluid that changes color if you have exhaust gases present in your coolant.
I know what you're talking about, but so far I've never seen someone selling or using it, I live in a 3rd world country.
Put a rubber glove or balloon over your reservoir cap. If it fills up completely it's very likely you have a bad head gasket. My unprofessional opinion is that your head gasket is in fact bad.
Good idea, I may give this a try.
Hate to say this but that looks like a blown head gasket to me. Looks like combustion gasses are making its way into the coolant/radiator. I would get a block tester if you don’t have one. Sorry to hear that man. Best of luck.

Where do you live, if you do not mind telling me? Just curious.
Morocco.
Ah damn, you could try a diy one for 100% confirmation. I’ve heard of ppl using gloves, balloons, condoms ect.
Yeah, that looks like something to try for more confirmation.
Do not do this. This dummy has no clue what hes talking about and theres a reason head gaskets are usually made of high temp compound or metal vs latex or plastic that cant handle any sort of heat. He meant making the head gasket tester, not the head gasket
Bro what? Use you it as a tester not the head gasket. Don’t think I’m the dummy.
Wtf… dude seriously take a second before coming at others for being a “dummy”
I loose coolant over time, and I have to fill the coolant reservoir once or twice a month, car is a 98 Civic.
check for leaks or any colored smoke from the exhaust
No visible leak upon inspection, if I don't run the car for some time, the moment it revs white smoke comes out of the exhaust, but other than that exhaust doesn't have any color.
RIP your head gasket
I’ve owned several cars over the years that had blown head gaskets. You’ve got all the symptoms- sorry friend.
Haha, that's reassuring as I was planning to replace it.
That's how mine started. It later began to overflow the reservoir tank and blew the hoses up like balloons. It's a good sign that there's no oil in the coolant, though. Not recommended, but I drove with a blown gasket for months before fixing it.

It seems bubbles just keep popping indefinitely.
If you put the cap on the radiator and the radiator hoses get a lot of pressure quickly then yeah I would say head gasket. Also check your oil. Don’t think anything is mixing yet. But maybe it can tell you more

Check the oil to see if antifreeze is mixed in there.
That's the weird thing, I don't have the coolant and oil mixture symptom, oil looks normal.
It gets burned in the cylinders.

Okay that's something to try, thanks.
Does it leak antifreeze?
Not that I know.
Idk man, maybe a pinsize hole in the radiator.....
I thought about that, but I've seen no leak, if so, could it explain the bubbles? Probably not.
Well, imo the leak could be drying up from the heat and the bubbles be from air entering through the pinhole. Again, just my opinion...
Yep that's a possibility, but the coolant empties very slowly, over the course of 2/3 weeks to refill the reservoir tank, and the bubbles are varied in size, can go from big to multiple small bubbles, so idk.

Turn on your heater on full and let it bubble like that it’s called burping the system
looks cut to me.
Push Rods clicking loudly.

You can’t be serious that would never work fam
Well, I understand your thoughts on this. I was hesitant to go forward with it myself. However, it worked, incredible as it sounds like a new gasket.
Condom works too.🤯
