I agree. I get what they were going for, trying to make each episode it’s own standalone thing with its own aesthetic, but it just looks like cheap instagram filters applied over what was originally a much better title sequence
It’s odd in a way because I actually really like how the separate serial title card technique is used in some of the earlier Classic Who serials like the computer text for The War Machines.
I did not like them at all. They look like lazy fan edits. Not saying all fan edits are lazy. I’ve seen very good ones. But these don’t do anything for me.
I feel like if they could have somehow done it without altering the way the Tardis looks it might have worked cause it wouldn't be as obvious they just slapped a filter over it
I loved the arrangements of the theme.
I didn’t even realize 7a had entirely different titles tbh lol it doesn’t make a huge difference either way.
What makes more of a difference is that 7 is just lackluster as a whole. Both halves needs to be one whole season to get more of the Amy/Rory departure, and a bigger season to deal with Clara.
The intro filters are hardly talked about compared to that lol
Honestly they're so bad, that I reckon someone either messed with the file for the Opening Titles, or the file was corrupted - so they tried replicating the original and couldn't get it right so they just used it for Series 7A and tried to make it look like a stylistic choice - and got to work redesigning new credits for Series 7B.
I mean why else would they go to the effort of making brand new credits when Matt was only contracted for another 5 episodes.
I think Moffat said back in 2012 that the idea was for each episode to act as a mini blockbuster, and he wanted each title sequence to be slightly different and reflect the tone of the episode.
He was contracted for another series when it was developed but dropped out early. At least that’s what I thought anyway.
Was also given as the explanation for Time of the Doctor having about a seasons worth of plot in one episode.
Don't think he was contracted at that point, Moffat has spoken about having to develop an idea for the 50th anniversary that had no Eleventh Doctor because he wasn't sure if Matt was coming back or not.
I think Matt then said late in the day that he'd stick around for the 50th and a Christmas Special but not a full series which is what forced Moffat to condense basically a seasons worth of plot into Time of the Doctor.
I don't know which is worse, the Instagram filter and textured logo approach of Series 7a titles or the "If you look closely, you can see f***ing EVERYTHING!" approach of the Series 7b titles.
I was NOT ready for the Matt Smith era when it first happened, so I was really biased against these titles (and the new look, sound, and tone of the show). Steven Moffatt eventually won me over, but I still don’t like the titles.
I don't know why they couldn't have used the 7b titles for the whole series, or at least use the series 5&6 titles for the Amy & Rory episodes. OR couldn't they have just used one of these 7a intros for the whole 5 episodes.
Changing it up every episode was ridiculous

Me too. Which is why it feels so half baked to me. If 60s Who can manage it, surely they could’ve too.
They just badly failed at it in series 7.
Yeah remove the "filter" and it looks cool. I esp like the lightning hitting the TARDIS
I was sad to see the Doctor DW Who logo go. I thought for Moffat's era it was visually striking. Especially when seeing it transition into the Tardis.
I honestly like them, I'm not a fan of how they changed fonts for the actors. But I really like how each episode gets its own DW design.
I did not like them at all. They look like lazy fan edits. Not saying all fan edits are lazy. I’ve seen very good ones. But these don’t do anything for me.
No they're not, they're cool as fuck.
I really like them =(
I really like the 7a opening actually, it’s my favorite of NuWho.
Hey just wait until you get to 7B.
7B's is the best intro in doctor who, the ending tardis opening transition was awful, but the rest was great
Oh hell no, series 7B is badly animated. It looks so unfinished and low resolution. The fsn versionsfor it look far better than the actual gideo.
Agreed Mr Madre
7B is what doctor who title peak performance looks like
The intro was great in The Snowmen but it was very bad in the following episodes.
I feel like if they could have somehow done it without altering the way the Tardis looks it might have worked cause it wouldn't be as obvious they just slapped a filter over it
It just kinda looked like they couldn't make their mind up lol
DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO MATT SMITH MATT SMITH MATT SMITH MATT SMITH MATT SMITH MATT SMITH

I thought the idea was to make the vortex look more and more violent and corrupted as a way to signal the end of the Ponds journey.

Everything about S7 is atrocious. Unless you count DotD as s7
Town called Mercy is actually pretty good, and hide is fun.
Honestly the best thing I can say about S7 is A Town Called Mercy isn't awful
I don't know which is worse, the Instagram filter and textured logo approach of Series 7a titles or the "If you look closely, you can see f***ing EVERYTHING!" approach of the Series 7b titles.
I never understand why people say sorry on post like these.
I'm saying sorry, because you have to look at this atrocity
I like how the music matches the energy of Smiths doctor but the lightning is a little much.
the pink firey vortex 💀

I thought that the series kept darkening the intro to foreshadow the ponds death
Doing my watch through of the parts of newwho I never saw rn and yea these really annoyed me
7b has been better so far tho
Yeah I don't mind the 7b titles. It could have been done a lot better though
I hate them as well, super lame.
They took an L here

I never got what the color scheme of each episode was meant to represent
