Nah, it's perfect. Using GURPS as rules light is as intended. All the extra rules are optional, and Film Reroll doing it as rules light is a perfect example of the flexibility of the system.

Yeah, GURPS is ideal for what they're doing. Otherwise, I think maybe FATE could work, but I think with all the different movies they're doing GURPS is much better.

TheGreyKlerik

Whatever system, the podcast works so well because of how fluid they are with the rules. GURPS already has this built in, you can be as cinematic or crunchy as you want with it.

Oaker_Jelly

I think their use of GURPS is perfect. They've slid into a niche use-case for GURPS that people rarely see when examining GURPS at a glance, and it suits their needs perfectly. GURPS allows them to play the narrative, not the numbers, which is ironic considering GURPS' rep as an uber-crunchy system.

It’s a stretch but I think they’d be able to do a really fun Fiasco Classic playthrough with characters, motivations, and relationships set in a movies world. It’s also a great way to have everyone play so they wouldn’t need a GM. Their website states “Fiasco is inspired by cinematic tales of small time capers gone disastrously wrong - inspired by films like Blood Simple, Fargo, The Way of the Gun, Burn After Reading, and A Simple Plan. You'll play ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control.” So maybe it’s not as much of a stretch than I thought.

It would be pretty funny if they actually used the edition D&D had when the first D&D movie was released, but I’m fine with whatever system they use for any reroll.

GURPS bad. Setting that aside, different movies and different games want different rules
