Never underestimate how much a company values control.
The upper levels of a big corp. arent really in touch with every day people anymore and on see whats on paper thats presented to them.
No matter the cost, they have to be right.
Maybe they don’t think people would watch *Drive To Survive But They’re Girls and Guenther Isn’t There* if they saw the races beforehand. Which is silly but in keeping with the lack of plans and faith they’ve had for this program.
I think there’s a rights issue behind the scenes. Some former f1 employees suggested as much on twitter. It seems like someone was sold the rights but has no plans to air it right now or something along those lines.
There’s a chance but you’d also have to assume that the contract has some stipulation that races must be broadcast somewhere if the races are being funded
They probably still own the rights to that. FoM retains the rights to the highlights for f1 races in all countries but not the full races(for a period) in all of them. I believe they don’t have them in Germany and Australia. So I think it would be similar if whomever has the f1 rights in Germany decided simply to not air it
I would imagine if the rumor is true, this is similar but whomever they sold the rights to has them more broadly. The fact they do have highlights and a crew and commentary (they post clips during the race, there has to be a commentator there) Convinces me there’s a rights issue
Was that happening with the W Series? Some people will always be jerks but I don't recall seeing any negativity about that series. If they say they're trying to promote women in motorsport it needs to be public and hyped up.
Yeah, they do highlights videos with racing clips, and there are enough people involved that no one could keep a secret like that. But it's infuriating. So infuriating.
During the F1 prerace Laura was talking about the Academy race and she and Will were excited about the level of the racing. All I could think was "then why isn't it being broadcast?!" It's not up to them, I know. Or it was a sneaky jab from them to FOM off course.
Las time i read it was something related to broadcasting rights, they were sold to someone but Sky felt entitled to the rights or something like that. And since they have that issue they don't air it.
I saw this but then I also saw the final race of their season will be an F1 support event and that would be televised. If they’re able to televise that race, it doesn’t seem to be a rights issue.
I have also seen next season all F1 Academy races will be held as support events to F1 and likewise, all will be televised. This may have more to do with the F1 branding attached to F1 Academy and not wanting to have that seen with these lower level events. FOM has always been one to protect their image after all.
FOM: "We're creating a race series to replace W series and promote the careers of female race drivers!"
Fans: "Oh cool, I wanna watch and support that!"
FOM: "NO."
If I was being generous I'd say this was just YouTube's shitty content ID auto-doing this by matching similar shots of the track to the highlights of F1 Academy.
That has happened before for some series racing at F1 venues, sometimes even when they are broadcasting live.
But I'm not feeling that generous. So for once, reverse Hanlon's razor.
I wish they'd just be honest and say what their strategy is. if it's a dispute over the footage, say that, if its saving it for the docu-series, say that. Just communicate what's going on.
Both races are there now. I'm assuming good faith so it was probably an algorithm incorrectly matching video from F1 Academy with video from EuroNASCAR since they were both at the same circuit and probably using the same camera angles

I’ve read a rumour that all this is happening because FOM actually *has* sold the broadcasting rights to someone. That someone just isn’t actually… broadcasting it anywhere. Probably bs, but very funny if true
So Formula One goes to a competitor, NASCAR, to run Academy as a support race, and then gets mad when they try to amplify that series? And again, amplify their *competitor's* series because they think its a good cause, rather than because they think it'll make them money? The way this is written makes it seem like NASCAR went out of its way to be good corporate citizens (and supporting a good cause like helping women in motorsport), and got punished for it.
Wish they'd let the SRO have the rights to it. Everything they do is free on YouTube and it would give them some crowds to watch as well. (Seeing as they aren't using it for an F1 support race).

But there's *dozens* of fans at the track who got to see it live!
Literally dozens!
Were you at the convention? I didn’t see you there
That’s just the parents and partners of the drivers
They've all been shot.
At this point the only explanation I have is that it’s a money laundering scheme, I don’t understand why would they fumble this so bad.
Never underestimate how much a company values control. The upper levels of a big corp. arent really in touch with every day people anymore and on see whats on paper thats presented to them. No matter the cost, they have to be right.
I still don't understand what the end goal here is? Whats the point of all this secrecy.
They’re making a docu series I guess. Makes no sense to block it, but I guess that’s why?
Maybe they don’t think people would watch *Drive To Survive But They’re Girls and Guenther Isn’t There* if they saw the races beforehand. Which is silly but in keeping with the lack of plans and faith they’ve had for this program.
I think there’s a rights issue behind the scenes. Some former f1 employees suggested as much on twitter. It seems like someone was sold the rights but has no plans to air it right now or something along those lines.
But they have commentated race highlights published on YouTube
Highlights might have been specifically exempted in the contract.
There’s a chance but you’d also have to assume that the contract has some stipulation that races must be broadcast somewhere if the races are being funded
That would have been smart but the issue is apparently that it did not 😝

Seems highly likely, they made graphics, filmed it, and remixed the theme they wouldn’t bother with that if they thought it would never see screens
I wouldn’t be surprised if next year Netflix and FOM announced DTS:Academy to launch during the mid-season break
Hide as much as possible to control the story later.
All the race highlights are on YouTube.
I think it’s so they can stop other categories from being televised.
I suspect they don't want people to talk down the women when they're not as good as the male equivalents
Was that happening with the W Series? Some people will always be jerks but I don't recall seeing any negativity about that series. If they say they're trying to promote women in motorsport it needs to be public and hyped up.
Yes, they were regularly criticised for not being any good by quite a lot of people, even Chadwick was often derided.
Are we even sure this series exists?
Schrodinger's race series
too bad no one can observe it to infact confirm either way
Yeah, they do highlights videos with racing clips, and there are enough people involved that no one could keep a secret like that. But it's infuriating. So infuriating.

How are the ladies supposed to get and be supported with this kind of clownshow
"Fuck those women, their hopes and their dreams."
“Also, screw anyone who tries to help them.”
Question… am I really helping if all I do is watch it every now and then? I guess that’s what I would say IF I COULD WATCH IT!

As far as I can tell both VODs are available again already, so probably just a mistake.
I wish they'd just be honest and say what their strategy is. if it's a dispute over the footage, say that, if its saving it for the docu-series, say that. Just communicate what's going on.
Right, because the internet was so cool and supportive about W series...
So much for the F1 Academy support by FOM?
Both races are there now. FOM will always be a joke lmao
Like is F1 Academy a tax write off/loophole or some kind of money laundering. Because it does not seems like they want it to succeed.
The iron curtain is so strong it is blocking neutral third parties. This is going to kill FOM’s ability to get the W Series on support calendars
Huh, I might be wrong but I watched EuroNascar and F1 academy wasn't even shown in any way during those streams right?
Camera work is likely very similar, and most likely is what triggered the claim
For anyone interested in GT racing Vincent is a great follow btw!

FOM being abussive with copyright complaints in YouTube once again, nothing new
FOM being abusive with copyright claims but still gradually inching closer to infringing Indycar’s copyright
Freedom for me, not for thee
Great, so this series is clearly worse than the already lackluster W series.
Well, I was there and saw it with my own eyes! Let's see FOM try to copyright my brain...
Wish they'd let the SRO have the rights to it. Everything they do is free on YouTube and it would give them some crowds to watch as well. (Seeing as they aren't using it for an F1 support race).
There is a conflict between the party FOM sold the rights to, and Sky Sports.
Of course it's Sky Sports.
Yeah my feelings exactly.
Formula One Management sucks.
certified FOM moment
Well I’m done with F1 Academy, not that I ever got started.
What even is the purpose of this series?
bruh
Why are people thinking this is some bizarre scheme to keep the series secret? Formula 1 post highlights on YouTube the day after the race.
