Good for you! A few toed 4-irons on par 3s and you may change your mind😂

-Golf-Addict-

Especially when it’s cold. Lol

JustSomeAudioGuy

I was going to add till I saw your comment. My hands hurt thinking about blading blades when it was cold in Ontario 🥶😂

-Golf-Addict-

Lol. I think you lose feeling in your index and middle finger for about 2 holes or so. Ha.

JustSomeAudioGuy

I learned to play on hand me down Spaulding Executive blades in the 70’s. Great way to learn… but holy cow… if you missed, you’d remember the pain for weeks 😂😂

-Golf-Addict-

Ha. Yeah. Do it once and you almost always hit the next one fat. Or have one handed finish. The good ole days!

jondes99

I still remember going from Ram blades to Eye2s and thinking how awesome it was that thin shots didn’t hurt anymore.

JustSomeAudioGuy

I think I went from the Spaulding to McGregors (other hand me downs) until I was playing on junior tours in the mid 80’s and got a set of Wilson Staff’s. Finally bought my first real set of cobras in 90. I miss being able to play on those Spaulding’s 😂

BoofBanana

I hit my ancient bladed 2 iron last night. Carried 170 and took my soul with it. Thank gosh it was at the range for fun. That distance has many clubs easier to hit that can make it that short.

[deleted]

This comment made me drop my phone

-Wiggles-

Yeah, mixed sets are the way to go. I've had MP 64s for years and just recently switched out my 4 iron for a more forgiving CB. I'd like to do the same with the 5 too

ClubberLangsLeftHook

Just went this rout myself. Got the pro 223's for my P-8 and 221's for my 7-5 and I am really liking it 3 rounds in.

Playstationer8

lol this is the opposite of what people mean when they talk about mixed sets

lawltech

Do you mean 225s? The 221s are the blades while the 223 & 225 are CB

ClubberLangsLeftHook

Wrote it backwards, its 223’s for my 7-5 and 221’s 8-P. It was early AM and I just got them.

JBNothingWrong

Just made me love em more, reminds me of baseball

jkmzedder

You will be proved correct! 😂

TheKingInTheNorth

Blended sets ftw

k12pcb

Bless you child in the name of Mizuno

jtag67

Hallowed be thy name. On earth as it is in in a perfect strike. Give us flushed contact and forgive us our imperfect swings as we forgive those who take breakfast balls, lead us not into shanks and deliver us from thin contact.... If I was a believer I'd be headed to hell right about now. But since I'm not I really enjoyed writing this. Also... Srixon would like a word.

Only-11780-Votes

Amen

hrpomrx

Hail Mizuno, divotful of grass. The blade is with thee. Blessed art thou among clubmakers, and blessed is the fruit of thy forge, MP18. Holy Mizuno, mother of skull, pray for us thinners now and at the hour of our duff, Amen.

wi11iam26

I'm the name of the Driver, the putter and the 7 iron, Amen.

yeeeeoooooo

You're a wordsmith!

jkmzedder

I managed to get a 6 iron (ex demo) for £15 on eBay ….*spends the rest of the night looking for full sets on ebay*….

k12pcb

I passed my mp-37 set to my kid and he’s walloping them. I’m in 223/221’s right now. I would highly recommend the mp-37, you can grab a full set for about 350 [these are stiff shaft](https://www.ebay.com/itm/235515270842?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=s7CI0ClxRjm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=exsavkhXQVi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)

TheProfessxr

The feedback alone makes it difficult for me to consider switching.

jkmzedder

That’s the feeling I got too. Nothing comes close. 👍

randointernetguy

Sigh, sometimes I wish I was right handed... Sometimes I strike the ball so poorly I'm sure I must be... Enjoy!

YungRoll8

The Latin word for left is sinister. So sinister manus would be left hand.

ballsagna2time

Shit it's been far too long since I took Latin classes. Thank you!

Yeahy_

MP-60s are made in lefty. I hated the MP18 line personally

randointernetguy

Never hit those, I'm rocking the MP25 or MP32 irons depending on the day

TheBigTuna1107

Are you an above-average ball striker to begin with?

uu123uu

I expect that most people who are enjoying blades are good ball strikers, regardless of their handicap.

granters021718

Meeeeh. I think there’s a large portion who go low one day and make the switch

uu123uu

For sure. I have a set of blades, I just use the 9 iron - you can be very accurate with them, which is fun, which golf is supposed to be.

granters021718

100% - it’s supposed to be fun. Don’t watch my reactions on the course to verify this

Tom-B292--S3

![gif](giphy|3oEdv4pk61Rfcb7nPi|downsized)

AftyOfTheUK

Why you gotta do me like that?

WestcoastHitman

I play blades - thinking about switching to forged CBs for additional height (distance allows flexibility in my bag too). I’m a 4 handicap and an above average ball striker

jkmzedder

Playing off 10 currently. But managed to do the back 9 at my club last week level par. First time ever. (Front 9 was 12 over though). So, I’m improving. I swing weird too. A bit single plane, and a baseball grip. I’m left handed writing, but play right handed. “Swing your own swing” and all that. 👍

WengersOut

If you really want to live dangerously throw some Golf Pride Z Cord grips on blades. Hit one thin and you’ll need an x-ray, ask me how I know

jkody

zcords for life. #zcordgang

randointernetguy

Do you have any experience with the Lamkin cross line grip? Wondering if there's any reason to try the Z Cord...

WengersOut

I put 6 dif grips on my clubs this winter to try, including the cross line. For me, Z cord felt better. The Lamkin felt like how grips feel a year into owning them, IMO - just kind of slick.

randointernetguy

Cool, I'll give em a go!

-Golf-Addict-

Dude I love my Irons. (Titleist 680s) I don’t play as much as I used to, so I was thinking of going to a combo or full Cavityback. Then I saw the new Mizuno Pro 241 and probably will stay with blade’s after seeing them. Lol. I just need an updated set.

Big_Simba

Little cautionary tale for the folks looking at this and saying “hmm should I switch to blades?” I’ve hit blades a few times, almost exclusively off mats. I consider myself to be a decent ball striker (despite the handicap - my issue is driver for sure), and I hit them great. I was considering a set until I hit a couple shots off of grass - night and day difference. Turns out the mat is pretty good as assisting you to make sure you’re getting quality strikes - the club can’t dig into the ground too far, and hitting the mat too soon doesn’t seem as big of an issue. From the grass I experienced a considerable distance drop, unless I really flushed it. It seems like it’s much harder to compress the ball and get jump off the club face with the blades. Played one round with em and it was very clear that I was out of my league. My advice for anyone who’s not a sub 10 handicap is to go hit some on the course before committing to a set. My hope was that my mis-hits wouldn’t travel as far and would stay in bounds, but in reality I hit into more hazards due to distance loss due to imperfect strikes. If I had hit it the same way with the GI irons, I woulda cleared the hazard every time, despite the imperfect strike. I didn’t notice this as much hitting from the fairway, but out of the rough it definitely happens way more frequently

ineedabeer603

This is right

beveldown

Little cautionary tale…this person is not a decent ball striker.

sboshoff

If you can't hit compress a blade off the grass then I'm sorry but you're not a decent ball striker. I had the opposite experience when switching to blades. Finally had control of where the ball went. Finally not feeling like I flushed it but seeing the dispersion 30 yards right or left of my target like when I used to hit t200s.

Big_Simba

It’s not an issue of not being able to compress the ball, it’s having a 75% success rate vs 99% success rate

TreAwayDeuce

>and get jump off the club face with the blades. Because the ball doesn't "jump" off the face since the club doesn't have a springy face like cavity backs or other game improvement irons.

taerin

Nah to all this. Buy them and force yourself to be better. It will happen.

Traditional_Crazy_57

Pretty much on the nose here. When I took golf back up at 18 I got down to a 15 pretty quickly then stagnated, got some MP32s and my consistency shot up with all clubs across the board

bigvenusaurguy

exactly, gotta take off the training wheels sometime, worth scraping your knee once or twice.

bigmean3434

Yeah, it’s crazy how younger people and even people about my age think blades are like some mythical tool only pro golfers can use. I have multiple sets of irons and a couple cb sets, but I have gamed blades forever and I haven’t used anything I like better for many reasons.

tee2green

Best of luck….it’s golf on hard mode. After playing on windy days and watching the curve on my iron shots turn into a boomerang, I’ve moved back to cavities and enjoy the comfort. Playing blades is like driving a sporty manual transmission car with no suspension. Yeah it’s super fun for a while. But then you realize it’s kinda nice to have a simply comfy automatic car to get to the grocery store and back.

Macgruber999

Well said. And accurate

Tom-B292--S3

This says what I was trying to say better. I love blades so much, but I wasn't making enough trips to the grocery store to warrant their continued use. They are pretty to look at though lol.

WonPt21Gigawatts

Did you feel that in your loins?

trustedturd

In his plummmms

skycake10

What do you mean by cavity back though? I love one-piece forged cavity backs like my ZX7s.

Nine_Eye_Ron

I found the mid cavity back clubs a great compromise, I’ve got some MP-57s and they are superb.

reginalduk

3 handicapper back in the day, loved my Apex blades, tried a set of dcis. Yes my good shots didn't feel as good, but my bad shots were so much better. Blades are a luxury for all but the greatest of golfers.

bytor99999

I just want that really thin top look. But at my age I need the game improvement. Been playing TM Sim irons. Really miss a thin look.

Tom-B292--S3

I bought some Haywood Signatures as a compromise. They are GIs but in the bag they look like blades. I also miss the thin topline, but I think my game will thank me.

BJJJourney

Check out Mizuno JPX models. If you want cavity back with a thin line and no offset. Particularly the tour or forged models.

JBNothingWrong

MP-32 gang

Mysterious-Award-903

150% agree with you.

ZookeepergameThat921

I picked up the Srixon Z Forged II 7-P, I feel the exact same way.

MarineBand5524

My P7MB felt amazing today.

BobSacamanosRatHat

MP-33s here. Hitting the short irons is absolutely addicting. The 3 and the 4 have been replaced by respective JPX Forged clubs as iron technology has definitely come a long way with bladed long irons and playing with those old butter knives is masochism. They’ll make you face some hard realities if your swing is fucked though, that’s for sure. Can’t be coming over the top or casting, early extension-ing or getting off balance and screwing up your rhythm while swinging a bladed iron w/ a dg s300; it’ll yell at you.

Tildengolfer

I remember when I was good enough to play blades. It was existential when the contact was good and gained distance like never before. I now dream of those days when I’m behind my bar watching Scottie win majors….

BroccoliSuccessful20

I went from t100s to 680s a year ago. Better feel, better feedback, helped me improve immensely.

[deleted]

I game that exact set right now. The other day I made an egregiously stupid mistake of trying the Pro 225's. Mizuno added a layer of copper back into their iron heads. This was stupid because my lizard brain went in to "How To Acquire Mode" instantly. This did not please Wife. If you think the MP18's are buttery, just wait til you flush a Pro 221/233/225.

jkmzedder

are they that much better? Damn. I better not try them. 🙈

Yeahy_

the copper makes them feel really soft. Almost too soft. The older forged mizunos have more of a sizzle when you pure them. Comes down to preference IMO mizunos older forging is much superior. I've tried MP60, MP30, MP18SC, MX-23, 923 Hot Metal, 921 Forged, 921 Tour, 223

[deleted]

Not saying you should or shouldn't, but the MP18's - as profoundly good as they are - do NOT have the copper layer as part of their construction. It's like going from a Porsche to a Ferrari. They're both solid cars, but only one is desired by nearly every car nut. Or - to use a more apt analogy - kinda like the difference between the Korn-Ferry Tour and the PGA TOUR. They're both stocked wall-to-wall with exceptionally good golfers and both are worth the ticket price, but the PGA guys are just a liiiiitle bit better.

PartiZAn18

MP4 🤙 but Mizzy Gang _for life_

RadioControlled13

I’m all about my 1971 and 1984 Wilson blades. I’m a high handicapper, but play better than I did with SGI irons. Club restoration and re-plaiting is a fun hobby too.

AdmirableGear6991

Wait until you try their forged wedges…

jkmzedder

These are my current set…I know. 🙈 https://preview.redd.it/p8hoq067h6vc1.jpeg?width=1152&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15abaa652455b524b0c5881814ec847a7fc2cc37

holdmypocket34

Any different club you use will feel amazing compared to those, not just blades. I bet if you hit my ping g425 irons you would gush

jkmzedder

I’ve tried a mates ping i210’s with beautiful grips. And yes, they do feel special. 👍

BobSacamanosRatHat

Great clubs. I gamed these for a long time and can remember when they came out when I was working at a pro shop in high school. Gifted them to a buddy who still has them in the bag.

CaribouLou816

Mixed set is the way

Tom-B292--S3

I've been a blade guy most of my life. My dad gave me an old Campbell's set he bought in the 70s when I was starting out. I tried cavities but always went back to blades. Used KZG forged and Mizunos MP14s. Now, the big issue for me was that I wasn't playing or practicing enough so I never developed that consistency with my swing and ball striking. I do think I lost a lot of strokes off the tee and on the green though, and while I generally made good contact with the ball and it felt amazing when I flushed it, I don't play enough to have to fight my irons when I don't play as often as I like. I didn't play a round last year lol. So, I needed a new set and got some game improvement Haywood signatures, with the compromise being that they look like blades from afar lol. I like the sound and feel so I'm happy, and I'm sure the extra "help" will make my rounds this year more enjoyable. As the pendulum swings to GI this time, it'll swing back to blades for my next set I'm sure haha. There's no denying the allure of them. Anyways, I still feel that all decent players should at least use blade styles from 7/8 to PW. Split combo is probably ideal.

dropthehandle

Enjoy the pain. There are other forged options that offer great feel that aren’t blades and still give forgiveness. Most tour pros aren’t playing blades anymore, especially in their long irons because misses are too penalizing but YMMV.

95andSunny

Now hear me out…try the mp18 cb. Not a true cb. More of a blade with a little of the upper half dug out. They make for a good combo set with the Mb if you’re into that kind of thing.

jkmzedder

Seen a good set of those on eBay!

FootballOogie

I wish I could hit blades. I am not good enough yet to use my MP-60’s

bdgg2000

Welcome to the world of stingers

jkmzedder

😂😂

TLEH-IV

I played 670s for 8 years and I am a very good ball striker. The feel is unmatched but the modern CBs are just too consistent on less than ideal strikes to get off of them. I play T150s now. I will never get rid of my 670s though.

mauceri

Titleist MB 712's checking in. Playing the game as God intended. These irons force you to learn to swing vs hacking and praying like the majority of golfers do out there.

Pamela_Handerson

These were my first set of blades ever. I will never forget the first shot I pured with them. I connected absolutely perfect with a 5 iron and the feel, the sound, the ball flight absolutely everything I can literally remember it perfectly and I will never forget it. That was it for me

jkmzedder

Same here!

mauceri

Love it, what are you playing now? I felt the same way demoing mine for a laugh thinking I wouldn't stand a chance. Also San Clemente is one of my favorite places on earth.

Pamela_Handerson

I’ve had a club buying problem since haha I’ve had the Nike forged blades, Mizuno mp33s, cobra rf blades, titleist AP2’s which I played for 2 years, and now I’ve got a set of the Haywood MBs but to be honest they’re not the best feeling clubs in the world. I think my next set will be the Mizuno blades. And it is hard to beat this area! My wife and I are debating moving for financial reasons, but then we have a killer day at the beach, or I have a beautiful golf round in January and it makes me second guess wanting to move haha

Starscreammm333

Blades go straighter

EwanHuzami

I had been using a second hand set of Ping G25s for a few years, I knew what my Ping fitting settings were and pounced when I found the right ones online. Last year my buddy upgraded his Mizunos and offered me his MP59s for a couple of hundred bucks. Luckily we are the same size and his clubs were a perfect fit for me. I am loving them. They are obviously less forgiving than the Pings, and quite intimidating to look down on, especially the butter knife 3 iron. Awesome though, what a change. So much more shape control. And the feeling! Never understood the obsession with how Mizunos feel. I am a total convert.

jkmzedder

I get where you’re coming from 👍

Stuckkxx

What’s your handicap?

jkmzedder

10 👍

jkmzedder

Here he is on today’s round. 😂👍 https://preview.redd.it/2robl4cg7avc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d6d8560a99255a0a6dff93fd18d5b1819fe972d

fuzedz

My brother in Christ, welcome to the next phase of existence.

jkmzedder

Happy to be here! 😂👍

BobMcQ

I'm with you. I'm not a great golfer, but I borrowed blades from a co worker and found that I more consistently found the center of the face than with my GI irons. Something about the small face gives me confidence, not intimidation. And the pleasure of the feeling of a well struck shot is addictive. I bought a set of MP20's to practice with and most likely will end up gaming them.

jkmzedder

Excellent. My thoughts exactly. 👍

jkmzedder

Here he is on today’s round 😂👍

Wibbly23

there are no shortage of players forged cavity backs that feel just as good as blades do.

MelodicTonight9766

Humble brag. Most people can’t play blades. There is a reason cavity back are more forgiving.

Yeahy_

Common misconception. [https://coolclubs.com/iron-reviews/](https://coolclubs.com/iron-reviews/) Look at the P7TW vs the P7MC. Very similar dispersion. The T100 has an even wider dispersion with the same strike pattern.

ToryBlair

OP can’t either, he’s a 10 handicap When a large number of players on tour don’t play blades, maybe ask yourself why

MTKPA

Srixon z965's all the way through the bag to 3i. The only blades smaller with a thinner topline than the Mizuno's. And the only blades that have a more buttery sweet spot. I refuse to give them up, even though I know for sure I'd gain a few strokes. I love getting such detailed feedback, the feel of a compressed shot, the shape control, all of it. But I definitely don't love coming up 20 yards short of the green because I hit it 1/4" out of the toe.

FrederickBishop

I’ve only ever used blades as they were hand me downs but when I get a new set I will switch

Macgruber999

You’ll be back. We all had this identical journey. The next phase is when you realize that 85% of the PGA Tour plays some form of a forged cavity back or a foam filled forgiving looking blade you’ll come back. Mizuno blades do feel amazing tho no lie there.

randointernetguy

Sigh, sometimes I wish I was right handed... Sometimes I strike the ball so poorly I'm sure I must be... Enjoy!

Ok_Specific_7161

You'll go back..
