Everyone should have a 7w in the bag

jkody

Favorite club for the last few years...very seriously considering getting a 9 wood this year to replace my 5 iron, which rarely holds the green from \~200ish. The pro at my club laughed at me and I told him everyone laughed at people with 7 woods a few years ago, too.

JZurf

This is what I have done over the past year, it's just so unbelievably easy to hit well and it always lands soft.

auswa100

I can't hit my 5-iron remotely accurately to save my life - in fact i think I am more accurate from 190/200 with my 7w than I am from 170-180 with my 5/6i. Would you recommend a 9W?

TheElusiveBushWookie

Theegala plays a 9w for some events because he can hold a green with it from ~225yds out way easier than an iron

ChesterButternuts

when do u use this thing? what does it replace in your bag?

SmarterThanCornPop

7W would replace a 4 iron, 5W replaces 3 iron, 3 W replaces 2 iron YMMV but this is generally how it goes Personally I prefer hybrids bc they’re easier to control for me but I loved my 7W back when I was still learning. As I get older I will prob go back to a 7W.

cchillur

I’ve been going back and forth between the 5w and 3h. I can shape the 3h more when I need to. But I can pipe the 5w pretty straight and high. I’ve committed myself to the 5w and gave the 3h to a buddy to borrow so I’m not tempted to carry both.

gimmeyoshoez

3h is my jack of all cuts club. Great on fairways, first cut, and rough.

SmarterThanCornPop

Yeah, unfortunately I have to carry three wedges because I use my 60 degree to save my ass at least once/round. Allows me to be more aggressive going at pins. If not I would prob go 5w over 3H.

cchillur

Idk what the rest of your bag looks like but I have D,3w,5w,4h-9i, and then 4 wedges pitch46°, gap50°, sand54°, lob58°.  You could probably lose an overlapped long club.

SmarterThanCornPop

I’m not counting my PW as a wedge. I carry 52, 56, 60. Tried using 54/58 instead and I didn’t like it. I def wish I had a 210-235 club though. Hard to take that off a 3 wood. Carry distances w/ normal swing D- 280 3w- 250 4h- 205 when hit like wood, 195 when hit like iron 5i- 193 6i- 181 7i- 170 8i- 155 9i- 142 Pw- 131 52- 115 56- 101 60- 84

cchillur

5wood brother! Your distances are very similar to mine. My arccos says D270, 3W240, 5W225, 4H200.

cchillur

I like my 1yr old cobra woods, but I still miss my pings and will likely eventually buy pings again next time.

SmarterThanCornPop

I like callaway and taylormade woods but I think you’ve convinced me to get a 5 wood. Embarrassed to say I thought I was already at the club limit. Been playing with 13 clubs for like 7 years now.

cchillur

The paradym was also very creamy when I got fitted! They also make a 3wHL (high launch) and its kinda like a 4wood?!? Might be a good club for you with adjustable hosel for adding even more loft.  Also, if you go hit to fit, maybe try a 7wood if you don’t love your 4h. might be a nice set for you as well.

Bike_Voucher

My favorite club in my bag.

mbe8819

Yes exactly. When I’m in a weird situation and I have no idea what to hit, I just pull out the 7W.

T04STED

Mine too. A Cobra Speed LD, with head cover that I paid a whole $40 (CDN) for from FB Marketplace. Looked brand new, not a mark on it. Sounds a bit metallic when hit, but it sure does what I need.

awesome_jackob123

I love my 7W. By far the easiest club in the bag to hit for me. It’s a constant 200 yards every time, dead straight. Everybody I play with is so fascinated by that club and I tell them to get one.

antitheta

I am confused as to why this is better than a 4hybrid? What is your distance gapping if I may ask?

sp4cetime

Depends on the player. But generally a FW will launch higher, spin more, and has more MOI than an equivalent hybrid.

aloysiusthird

Tour Chrome 2.0 has been a money shaft for me. Have ordered it to replace my 3w shaft. It’s been great for my driver.

SenorWanderer

Welcome to the club! I love my 7w. I have the G425 set at neutral 20.5°). Definitely my favorite club in the bag. I can hit it anywhere between 200 and 230, flight it, work it both ways, it’s great of the deck, out of the rough, off a tee. There’s no point in carrying a 4i for me.

gibr54

I have a 9w for just that reason. Launches high and lands soft. Took my 7w out of my bag.

KSPN

One of the next clubs I’d like to get. This particular 7w although I’d like to get the shaft in a regular instead of a stiff.

big_al_peters

Love my 7 wood. Probably my favorite club!

FiveFootFore

You won’t regret it.

nikonwill

I have a 4h and I can't hit it to save my life but I have a 5w that refuses to miss a fairway (I am new I do not tee off with driver yet). Thinking of replacing it with a 7w.

SaucySaucier2

My ping g430 7wood is on order. Can’t get here fast enough, so stoked!

Main_Pride_3501

Out of the three best shots I’ve ever hit in my life two of them have been with the seven wood. Great club. Surprised more people dont have them.

UB_cse

Love my 7 wood, found out they existed by picking one up at good will since it sounded funny and absolutely fell in love with it. Upgraded to a Paradym through callaway pre owned and love it even more. Very small sample size but over my 3 rounds this year I hit it 5 yards longer than my 3 wood on average, just because I am so bad at hitting 3 wood. Hoping that by the end of the summer I will be able to justify getting a matching paradym 5 wood!

Badger-Mushroom-182

This is the next club that will go in my bag. Maybe this exact one. I'm also considering just going to my local golf store and maybe Golf Galaxy to see if they have any used 7 woods that I hit well. I suspect the selection will be extremely limited though and I may need to buy new.

youmerelyadopteddark

Maybe I’m a boomer but I thought 21 degree woods used to be five woods

Frequent_Giraffe_134

My 5w is 18 degree. I hit a 4i well so I’d never put a 7w in my bag. The entire sub is going to disagree with me
