That seems very high...I live in a HCOL area and typically I'm paying $10-15 for a bucket with 100 balls. $20 for 150 balls but that's usually too many for one range session.
If it's like my local course they have $15 100 balls, $18 150 balls but they have a 'special' where it's the same price but includes a beer. They don't advertise it but it's always available haha.
Course near me put in a top tracer system a couple years ago. Price has endlessly been going up.
Right now 155 balls is $39 on weekdays and $44 on weekends.
I just put top tracer in, it is extremely expensive monthly, plus the heaters and covered bays. The cost of balls is crazy, the new nets astronomical, and the biggest issue is getting the balls picked and clean and back to the machine. It’s a business…..I think $20 for an hour of fun is pretty good.
I live in an expensive area, and most of our munis charge about $20/bucket if you buy single buckets. But they sell a 40-bucket pass for $450. Way better deal.
My range used to be 10-12 for a large bucket. It’s now 16 because they installed toptracer in all the stalls. I’m not necessarily opposed to that price for the feedback I get at a range session.
I know, I hear you. Some ranges have limited flight balls. Mine doesn't, because every now and then a ProV1 or two finds its way into the bucket, and unfortunately, the Toptracer is wrong with them too. 😣
I noticed that my first time on a top tracer range. Hit a retail ball at the end just to check. Even without a 'premium' ball and a bit heely, 20mph jump in ballspeed.
Screw that, I just wouldn’t go to that range at all. Talk about price gouging. Golf is an expensive sport as is, they’re guaranteed packed all weekend if they’re charging that much.
I mean I guess to try and aid with caring for the turf? Still doesn’t add up

Here's my DIY setup, using a Garmin R10
$14 damn dollars
I rarely go to the range now, all my golf budget money goes to playing
If the weather is terrible or I haven't been able to squeeze in a round I will occasionally rent a Trackman bay at PGAT SS, the data / video is worth 2 large buckets to me (even though it will be off mats)
I am really glad I read this post. The PGAT SS have essentially ranges with tracking? Is this at all of them? I thought they just did fittings and sales and such at those stores?
I think it depends on the store.
Our local store has 4 bays in the back for rent @ $32 an hour. You can play courses and such like an other sim rental.
They then have 3 bays for hitting demo equipment, trying gear. And then 3 bays for the fitting and pro that are behind glass.
They offer a $149.99 annual deal that gets you 20% off the bay, and 30 minutes a day on the sim
Not disagreeing with you, but walking 9 is only about 10-20 full swing reps in 2 hours, vs a full bucket of balls in less than an hour on the range.
Depends on what you’re trying to accomplish that day.
If it is solely a driving range, it'll be due to rising operating costs. Go to a range on a golf course and you're likely to find a much more reasonably priced bucket
People don’t realize it but a Driving Range is actually fairly expensive to operate. If your main source of revenue of buckets of balls and you don’t have a course and restaurant to dilute expenses, buckets are going to cost a decent amount.
Other thing to consider is the fact that many ranges are busy. Probably makes a lot more sense to jack up the price to lower demand if there’s always a line and your staff is becoming overwhelmed.
Where is this? It's $19 at Vineyard for a large bucket if you're not a 'member', I think around $15 at Stadium, even Tecelote is up there if I remember right.
Tecelote… what is up with that course? I just moved to SD a year ago, my buddy invited me to play golf at Tecelote and it was like $65 after the cart fee. That’s absurd for a short course is terrible condition
$15 for 120 at LA City Munis. I would pay more for more availability though. At Rancho Park on weekdays there is still a line for even the upper levels after the ball machine closes at 9pm.
Definitely depends on the place you go. the course I go to after work when i can is 10 for a large and like 14 or 15 for an XL bucket. But the course I just played at yesterday did mediums (25 balls) for 7 and 12 (50 balls)for large which were their only choices.
Dependent on range for me I drive a little farther because I get 88 balls for 7.50 as opposed to 45 for 10 bucks.
At the cheaper place I but 20 buckets at a time and it makes the price 6 dollars.
My muni is now 10 for 70. It was 8 or 9 before COVID so not a huge jump.
I feel it much more with the prices for 18 holes. 60+ bucks on weekend for eh courses.
That's a tad much.
Prices had just jumped from the normal 5/10/15 to the annoying 7/11/16 in thr last year or so in Denver, CO and it's a similar price in Chicago.
(Cue Larry David complaining about the extra change he has to carry around now to go to the range)
I hit my gently used prov1s into an old tarp i hung up in my backyard. Doesnt cost me a thing. I can hit 25 balls or 500 same price and the beer is always ice cold.
Yeah man that’s nuts. I live outside of Boston MA second only to HI for cost of living. Large bucket, 90 balls is $12.
You talking topgolf rates or just a mat and a field?
Damn location? I’m in a hcol area and pay 14$ for a large still expensive but 22$ sims are crazy by me tho I played for an hour and a half with one other person and it was 53$ each
The closest range to me is $15 for 80 and $20 for 115. And it’s a basic range, no toptracer and many of the mats need to be replaced. I hate it but it doesn’t make sense to drive the extra distance to other ranges
It’s ridiculous- I pay for smallest bucket and fill my golf bag with shag balls I find when waiting on assholes taking 5 hours to finish. And most the ranges have gone to shit- bad balls no turf or those insufferable mats.
$22 for a bucket of balls is crazy. The most expensive range in my area (S. Texas) is $10 for 70 balls or $12 for 105. My local muni range is $6 and $8 for same quantity but poor ball quality.
Ugh, dont get me started. Rip off.
Aldo, is that at a dedicated range, or at the range on a course?
In my experience, you'll pay 2 to 3 times more at a dedicated range. Which to me is extra stupid because all the dedicated ranges near me are off mats, and all the course ranges are off grass...so you're paying way more for a shitty experience.
1 bucket of 50 balls for the equivalent of just over $6/$4 (non member/member price).
Bulk package of 10 buckets for $53/$37 and package of 30 buckets for $127/$95.
Free for me as I work there.
This is in central Europe (Prague) for context
$10 for 100 on Tuesdays, $12 normally. I hit 200 on Tuesday, 100 with wedges, 100 descending down the bag 10 balls at a time if I hit everything decently.
It's $15 where I am now... which they were $12 a year or so ago, so def going up at a higher than normal rate.
A course near me now just has $20/day and it's unlimited which feels like the better deal.
That’s wild.
My club (which is semi-private, so not private at all).
Charges $7 for a bag of balls … that’s like 25-30 balls…crazy expensive.
If you do the membership then range balls are included.
Have no data to prove this, but my observation is that Covid brought a lot of really casual golfers into the sport who just want to be outside and swing the club…plus things like top golf. I just see more people at the range than I ever used to, and the range owners figure they can charge more.
Prices for range balls have gotten so crazy that I just invested in a membership at a golf simulator, and it’s been cheaper than getting range balls 🤣. I would highly recommend that route! Or if you have the space, build your own.
Bro closest range to me is $55 an hour in summer and $25 an hour in winter(Canada). It’s crazy but if you wanna hit some balls after work and not drive far it works. I bring my beers in to offset the cost.
65$ a month, unlimited range balls and 17$ games with a cart in Sonoma county CA . I think the baskets are grabbing 15-20$ though, so not too far off from us.
I believe my home course is $8 for a small (30-40) and $12 for a large (70-80). Yearly membership which gives a discount on greens fees and unlimited range balls is $359.
I pay $69 a month and get unlimited balls and discounted greens fees. I hit about 250-300 a day and play 2-3 times a week @ $25 a round with cart. Yours is definitely high.
There's one range near me where that's a jumbo bucket, ~160 balls. Otherwise, a large at most places is $18 - $20. Our muni course range is $16 for a large, but that will likely change since they're upgrading it.
The range up the street went to a large bucket for 16 here in Vancouver, Washington. I now don't go as often as I used to and I suspect the same for other golfers.
The highest price near me is $20 (100 balls), but it's a shot tracer range with tons of other amenities like heated bays. Everywhere else is typically $15 for 100 or more balls. I got a range membership since I prefer hitting on nice turf, $800 but I go enough in a year to average out maybe $10 per bucket.
Ha! Where I live there’s little chance that developers will allow an independent driving range to survive.
“Sir, we will pay you one zillion dollars for your land and kick that DR owner off of that nice flat land. We’ve got hospitals and apartment complexes to build.”
That seems very high...I live in a HCOL area and typically I'm paying $10-15 for a bucket with 100 balls. $20 for 150 balls but that's usually too many for one range session.
HCOL here as well, 150 balls, 1 hour of top tracer, and a free beer for $25. It's $18 without the toptracer.
That’s a sick deal but that beer isn’t free lol
Yea, I kinda realized this after I typed it out.
No Man, that beer is free. Don’t feel bad about it. Just enjoy it
I’d take the deal without the beer. Therefore the beer is free.
If it's like my local course they have $15 100 balls, $18 150 balls but they have a 'special' where it's the same price but includes a beer. They don't advertise it but it's always available haha.
Free compared to what OP is paying… but great point.
Course near me put in a top tracer system a couple years ago. Price has endlessly been going up. Right now 155 balls is $39 on weekdays and $44 on weekends.
seriously? that's the same as a 9-hole round, or even 18 in some places.
I can play 18 on a decent muni for $26 walking if it’s after work.
Yes, but do you take 155 shots in a 9-hole round? ... Wait.
Helllllllll yeah I do
That is nuts. I pay less for 18 holes of golf on a good course.
Homie is hitting balls at Jackson.
Wrf. I live in a suburb of Vancouver Canada. Cost of living is bonkers here. I get a basket of 88 balls for $5.50 (4 bucks US).
Canadians would call the basket a basket instead of a bucket. Anyways, good luck in the Preds series, game 1 was pretty good.
Haha thanks! I’m just stoked to be watching the canucks in the playoffs. Go Canucks go!
I live in a HCOL and it went up to $19 and that’s when I joined a CC and didn’t look back
I live in an expensive area, and most of our munis charge about $20/bucket if you buy single buckets. But they sell a 40-bucket pass for $450. Way better deal.
Yeah I bought a $20 muni bucket yesterday…and then had the pleasure of waiting half an hour for a bay to open up
Bro I just wouldn’t golf if I had to deal with shit like this
My range used to be 10-12 for a large bucket. It’s now 16 because they installed toptracer in all the stalls. I’m not necessarily opposed to that price for the feedback I get at a range session.
[удалено]
All the Toptracers I've ever used are wrong because they show my driver carry as 20yds shorter than I thought I hit... 😭
Could be the range balls?
Thank you, I appreciate your trying to help...
A lot of ranges have "low flight" balls that intentionally stunt the yardage. I'm not being sarcastic.
They are also designed to be durable (probably over distance). I focus on ball flight / path more than distance.
Mine jacked it up to $44 for 155 balls on the weekend lol
What
Better be grass at that price. I’m never hitting off a mat for $44
where lol
Screw that, I just wouldn’t go to that range at all. Talk about price gouging. Golf is an expensive sport as is, they’re guaranteed packed all weekend if they’re charging that much. I mean I guess to try and aid with caring for the turf? Still doesn’t add up
That is a good question. Life, uh, finds a way. $16 for a large bucket (non-member pricing).
$16 for 150, $11 for 75, $6 for whatever's in a small bucket. $2,000 for a simulator: Infinite balls.
Can you post your $2000 simulator set up?

What is your ceiling height?
Dangerously low
8' to the trusses. Works for everything but driver. Gotta work with what you got
Flightscope mevo plus. There’s also a golf simulator subreddit.
I LOLd at your flair. Thanks for the laugh! Hit em well!
$300k for room for a simulator
$14 damn dollars I rarely go to the range now, all my golf budget money goes to playing If the weather is terrible or I haven't been able to squeeze in a round I will occasionally rent a Trackman bay at PGAT SS, the data / video is worth 2 large buckets to me (even though it will be off mats)
I am really glad I read this post. The PGAT SS have essentially ranges with tracking? Is this at all of them? I thought they just did fittings and sales and such at those stores?

They offer a $149.99 annual deal that gets you 20% off the bay, and 30 minutes a day on the sim
I’ve been on Reddit for years now, just to find this post
30 minutes a day? Then another hour for 25? Damn that’s a steal for only 150 a year
Same. Walking 9 is $20 and range is $14 for me so I’ll just walk 9 for my practice nowadays. Range days only really happen for bad weather weeks.
Not disagreeing with you, but walking 9 is only about 10-20 full swing reps in 2 hours, vs a full bucket of balls in less than an hour on the range. Depends on what you’re trying to accomplish that day.
Quality of reps > quantity of reps This is true in time and time again in skill development research.

The ranges near me now charge by the hour. $22/hr. So it's worse as you can't take your time.
Fuck that
$50/hr in Toronto
Seriously? That's insane.
We’re reaching top golf prices lol. That’s crazy
$10 for an hour of unlimited balls - city owned course so seems cheaper than others.
That’s the trick! City courses have the cheapest range balls
I pay $225 for all the balls I can hit in the year
r/thisguyballs
$325 for me and still worth every penny
If it is solely a driving range, it'll be due to rising operating costs. Go to a range on a golf course and you're likely to find a much more reasonably priced bucket

My bucket went from $4.25 to $4.50 recently. That’s for the med/small 40 balls I like in 1 sesh
$6, $9, $12 here in San Diego
Where is this? It's $19 at Vineyard for a large bucket if you're not a 'member', I think around $15 at Stadium, even Tecelote is up there if I remember right.
Tecelote… what is up with that course? I just moved to SD a year ago, my buddy invited me to play golf at Tecelote and it was like $65 after the cart fee. That’s absurd for a short course is terrible condition
Used to be $20 with cart seven years ago. I went there every week.
I don’t mind goat tracks but Tecolote is a different beast. It’s such a piece of shit.
I’m north of the Vineyard. Pala Mesa is the range I hit
That is not San Diego, lol.
I just had a slice of pizza and a small cup of soup….$15 Its out of control everywhere
Golf course in my middle of nowhere hometown was $6 for 75, moved to the city and it’s $13 for 100
Wish courses had like a $2 for 15 option just so you could get some warm up swings in
There was a local course near me that gave a small bag w the round like maybe 15 balls. If I’m doing 18 that’s enough for me.
12 dollars for about 100 balls for my local one. Or a monthly membership of $120.
Damn my range is 6.50 for a large
Shrink the game
Just the rich pushing the poor out. Tale as old as time
$15 for 120 at LA City Munis. I would pay more for more availability though. At Rancho Park on weekdays there is still a line for even the upper levels after the ball machine closes at 9pm.
$10 all you can hit, putt and chip near me in Saint Louis.
Last time I went it was $5
It's cheaper for me to walk nine than to hit a large bucket in my neck of the woods
We printed 1.3 trillion dollars and counting
Definitely depends on the place you go. the course I go to after work when i can is 10 for a large and like 14 or 15 for an XL bucket. But the course I just played at yesterday did mediums (25 balls) for 7 and 12 (50 balls)for large which were their only choices.

My range does automatic tee-up so you get a card every few weeks. $10.00 – 125 Balls $20.00 – 275 Balls $50.00 – 750 Balls $100.00 – 1,625 Balls
Inflation
That's a tad much. Prices had just jumped from the normal 5/10/15 to the annoying 7/11/16 in thr last year or so in Denver, CO and it's a similar price in Chicago. (Cue Larry David complaining about the extra change he has to carry around now to go to the range)

I pay $40/month for unlimited range balls and a discount on green fees. It would cost me around $60 per week at $22/bucket.
country club. about $1k/month
$15/large bkt ~150 balls. This is on a course, off mats 95% of the time and the occasional irons only limitation.
Damn. I pay $30 a month for unlimited range balls at the muni by my house
$22 seems like a lot. I live in Eastern PA and typically a large bucket (approx 90 balls) costs around $12.
THANKS A LOT, OBAMA
Range ball Sales are down from all the post-Covid home simulator builds, so they need to raise prices to stay revenue neutral.
Bidenflation
$15-$18 USD
Like $7
I paid 20 a few weeks ago. The range had trackman on 90% of their bays. I assumed that was the reason.
I paid 20 a few weeks ago. The range had trackman on 90% of their bays. I assumed that was the reason.
$11 for a large bucket (100) of old balls pulled out of a pond.
I'd rather pay $22 for a bucket of balls than the $10 they wanted for a hot dog at the turn Saturday.
The range near me has been going up $2 a year for the last 5 years. Ballflation
$10 bucks for what they call the large. It's a good amount, probably like 50ish balls? $5 bucks for a small which is like 20 balls.
Damn location? I’m in a hcol area and pay 14$ for a large still expensive but 22$ sims are crazy by me tho I played for an hour and a half with one other person and it was 53$ each
Screw the range, just play.
The closest range to me is $15 for 80 and $20 for 115. And it’s a basic range, no toptracer and many of the mats need to be replaced. I hate it but it doesn’t make sense to drive the extra distance to other ranges
$6
It’s ridiculous- I pay for smallest bucket and fill my golf bag with shag balls I find when waiting on assholes taking 5 hours to finish. And most the ranges have gone to shit- bad balls no turf or those insufferable mats.
$22 for a bucket of balls is crazy. The most expensive range in my area (S. Texas) is $10 for 70 balls or $12 for 105. My local muni range is $6 and $8 for same quantity but poor ball quality.
£120 for 2000 near me, though the range is often closed because they run out of balls…
$18 up from $16 last year, large bucket, prices are jacked!
And yet they are still the same balls the course bought by the truckload in 2006
I stopped going to my favorite course outside of playing bc of the range ball prices. 18 bucks for a large is obscene
Supply/Demand. Inflation.
Top Tracer
I get two free buckets a day. But I’m a cook at the driving range bar and grill lol. Sorry for the high prices
That’s not the norm. Shit is too expensive though.
$650 for the whole year. Plus 3 'free' rounds and 15 day tee time privilege.
$10 at my local golf club and surprisingly its cheaper at my closest golf club
That’s crazy I live in a HCOL area and it’s $10 a bucket or 125 balls on the automated tees.
Same reason deodorant went from 3.50 to fucking 8 dollars. "Flation"
Exactly why I'm getting a net
$12 for 50 balls it’s crazy
That’s insane. My local range the most expensive bucket is $19 but it’s 250 balls. $10 for 110 balls
1 bucket of 50 balls for the equivalent of just over $6/$4 (non member/member price). Bulk package of 10 buckets for $53/$37 and package of 30 buckets for $127/$95. Free for me as I work there. This is in central Europe (Prague) for context
What??? How many balls are in that bucket? At mine they cost 1€!
$17 for 120 where I go. We're in Pittsburgh
$12 for a large. Those better be some damn good balls and a amazing range to even justify that price.
Local range shut down pre-COVID, someone bought it post-COVID, put in Trackman, and now it's $16 for a bucket.
$12 for 100 balls Another course near me is $350 for unlimited balls, but it’s just a little too far for the time available to me
$10 for 100 on Tuesdays, $12 normally.
I’m in Raleigh NC. Lonnie Poole is $12 a bucket for large. That seems really expensive to me. $22 is on another level of BS
Yea it's a total joke. At least my place has trackman so I try to get my $25 bucks worth.
That's highway robbery. I pay $16 for 160 at my range.
More people playing golf
15$ 100 balls 730-9 you get a pitcher of beer
I know. I can walk 9 twilight for $17.
That’s wild. My club (which is semi-private, so not private at all). Charges $7 for a bag of balls … that’s like 25-30 balls…crazy expensive. If you do the membership then range balls are included.
$20 for a large bucket in a metropolitan area of Wisconsin. I’m looking into building a home sim because I’d make my money back in a year or two.
i get 90 balls for 20 150 for 25 at a range with automatic tees and toptracers cameras. curious to see what everyone else pays
$10 for a large bucket in Mesa AZ - at that price just practice putting 😎
Have no data to prove this, but my observation is that Covid brought a lot of really casual golfers into the sport who just want to be outside and swing the club…plus things like top golf. I just see more people at the range than I ever used to, and the range owners figure they can charge more.
Idk what you’re talking about I got 110 balls for $10 yesterday
18 in Fairfield County CT
Plenty of new people to drive up prices.
Prices for range balls have gotten so crazy that I just invested in a membership at a golf simulator, and it’s been cheaper than getting range balls 🤣. I would highly recommend that route! Or if you have the space, build your own.
At my local hack shack it's $5.50 for 45 balls or $10.00 for 90 balls. At better courses a small bag/bucket could run closer to that $10 mark.
10-15 bucks 115 balls Pittsburgh Pa
Because it’s what the market will bear. Golfers start going elsewhere, the prices will change. Supply and demand.
Supply and demand.
Bro closest range to me is $55 an hour in summer and $25 an hour in winter(Canada). It’s crazy but if you wanna hit some balls after work and not drive far it works. I bring my beers in to offset the cost.
$3 for a small bucket $5 for a large. But the large is maybe 50 balls.
65$ a month, unlimited range balls and 17$ games with a cart in Sonoma county CA . I think the baskets are grabbing 15-20$ though, so not too far off from us.
how many balls?
Is this Oak Creek in Irvine you're going to?
Getting rippled off bruh.
I believe my home course is $8 for a small (30-40) and $12 for a large (70-80). Yearly membership which gives a discount on greens fees and unlimited range balls is $359.
Soon, it will be cheaper to buy a box of Top-Flights at a sporting goods store and hit those out into the range instead of buying a bucket.
15 an hour at our range. Love it..
I pay 20 bucks for 6 tokens. Prolly 50+ balls per bucket.
12 to 13 bucks for a large bucket. New York.
None of you guys say how many balls are in your large bucket and what city your range is in. Both matter immensely to price
That's obscene. I pay about £2.50 for 50 balls at my clubs range
Nashville, TN checking in. $15 for 100 balls in my part of town.
$17 here for about 25 balls. Thanks Davis love! The course was fine until you “redid” it ( made it more expensive)
19 dollars for 100. pretty standard for australia.
The range up the street went to a large bucket for 16 here in Vancouver, Washington. I now don't go as often as I used to and I suspect the same for other golfers.
It's 6.50 a bucket here and 3.25 for a half bucket
$17 where I'm at for large 100 count but it comes w Trackman and a grass deck. $20 will get you a large bucket and a beer.
$12 for a large - SoCal Small bucket still just a $5’er
LCOL— can get 70 balls and a domestic beer for $10! Was cheaper last year too
The highest price near me is $20 (100 balls), but it's a shot tracer range with tons of other amenities like heated bays. Everywhere else is typically $15 for 100 or more balls. I got a range membership since I prefer hitting on nice turf, $800 but I go enough in a year to average out maybe $10 per bucket.
$5- 20 balls $7- 40 balls $10- 80 balls South Florida Where I’m from in north eastern Tennessee it’s $5- 80 balls that is the only choice…
Seattle,WA suburb, $14+tax for 90 where I am
It’s cheaper to just buy used balls and take them to the range.
6-8-10 depending on size
$10 for 110 balls in south Louisiana
$22 is fucking absurd where is this?
How many balls? Today I got 120 for $15
$12/90
Ha! Where I live there’s little chance that developers will allow an independent driving range to survive. “Sir, we will pay you one zillion dollars for your land and kick that DR owner off of that nice flat land. We’ve got hospitals and apartment complexes to build.”
$20 for 185~ by me
$40 a month gets me 100 balls a day at my course. I love it.
