Whatever you would wear for hot and sunny weather. Or a hurricane. On the same day.

vpkumswalla

I was there in July 2022. I went to the lighthouse a couple miles away wearing shorts and a long sleeve pullover. I got back into my car after 30 seconds it was so windy and cold.

boturboegt

For real. on my bandon trip one day we played 36 and it was 66 degrees and sunny with little wind by 15th hole on the morning round, and by the 6th hole on the afternoon round it was mid 40's and hailing and 25-30mph winds.

onederbred

LAYERS LAYERS LAYERS.

DadInKayak

No hurricanes in that area.

LilOpieCunningham

Well now I feel silly

chekmarks

dont feel silly - southern oregon coast has some NASTY weather in the winter. they aint hurricanes, but those winter storms bring 50-70mph wind and heavy rain.

BradMarchandsNose

“I can’t pack my hurricane clothes because the meteorologists don’t call it a hurricane. I need to pack my heavy rain and high winds clothes instead.”

LilOpieCunningham

Exactly--I have gale clothes and I have squall clothes and I'm not sure which to bring

BradMarchandsNose

Imagine being caught in a tropical storm with your hurricane clothes on? How embarrassing!

DadInKayak

Pffft. I had to look up it’s location. No worries. With the wide open ocean to the side it makes sense to think a hurricane can hit.

I_am_atom

It was a joke dude.

mwf86

That's because I haven't booked my stay yet.

onederbred

They have borderline hurricane force winds sometimes

JobClassic

Hope to see you there OP! I’ve been the last 3 years and taking my brother for a 141 hole adventure 7/2 - 7/5. Here are some tips I gave my brother last week for packing. 1.) Don’t bring a ton of balls… you are most likely not going to lose as much as you imagine and if you do, simply buy some from the shop. Unless you have special tees, they got you covered there too along with wooden ball markers from each course 2.) if you are playing 36 in a day, bring an extra polo & socks to change into after your first round 3.) sunscreen, lip balm and lotion are a must 4.) I’ve been looking at the forecast, it’s not going to be super warm and will to be windy … I’d consider packing pants. 5.) Lastly, do your mech shopping last… you will find some logos more appealing than others… so don’t over purchase early Have a blast man, it will be hard not to

billgluckman7

Only thing I’d add… bring some snacks, especially for late night.

Whaty0urname

Am I stupid? How does 141 holes shake out in rounds? Lol

doebedoe

Bandon Preserve has 13. Shorty's has 19. (Both par 3 courses). I'm guessing that is how it happens.

StrungoutScott

to piggy back on this, i went a few months ago and casually tossed a face gaiter in my suitcase, not expecting to even use it. It was the most useful thing i packed due to the batshit crazy wind throughout my trip.

cleodius

What do people do at night there? Does everyone just go to sleep or is there a bar open late?

Justenough2

Most of the restaurants will stay open until 10-11 for food and drinks. The Bunker Bar will stay open until 2am for drinks.

jkody

Play 36++ holes, eat, sleep, repeat.

garytyrrell

Bars or just hang out in the rooms. Our room had a poker set which was great.

Dry-Leadership2484

Every course has its own restaurant except old Mac and sheep ranch, then there’s an Irish pub restaurant at the clubhouse and a bar downstairs Trails has the best food probably

Whaty0urname

Am I stupid? How does 141 holes shake out in rounds? Lol

JobClassic

The 5 main courses are 18, the short courses : preserve is 13 and Shortys is 19… we are playing them all and Shortys twice Breakdown by day Day 1 - Shortys Day 2 - Old Mac and Trails Day 3 - preserve, bandon and Shortys Day 4 - Sheep and Pac Dunes A couple summers ago, I did a 50 hole day as well … just a nice 20 mile stroll through heaven

Whaty0urname

Ohhhh lol...thanks for breaking that down for me

rvdsn

Curious, what’s a trip like that cost?

JobClassic

Depending on housing and when you go but if you stay on property it’s going to range from $150 - 350 / night per person … the greens fees for what I laid out in summer is going to run you $1500. So probably $2k all in …

jkody

Realistically, it's likely close to $1k a day if you play 36 holes a day w a caddy during high season. All the prices are on the website though, and you can do it a lot cheaper "off season," even though it's still really hard to get reservations, and it's much harder to get 36 in when the days are shorter.

JobClassic

Even in the summer, $350 a round and the replay is $175 …. I haven’t had a caddy but don’t think that and the tip is ~$475. If you play a 3rd round, it’s free. A great hack is to play the par three in the morning as a warm up, then 36 after that.

jkody

First, I don't disagree with you at all and your suggestions are good except that I would absolutely pack pants no matter what time of the year. The Par 3s won't count as a round to get the third round on a "big" course free, I don't think. As for budget, $525 for green fees plus $140/night lodging (absolute cheapest bed in high season) and you are still at $665 without any food, drinks, taxes, etc. With a caddy for 36, you are at $965, (caddies are $300 for a 36 hole day more because if you don't pay at least $150/rd you are a cheapskate and will probably get fired by your looper). Again, that is without food/drink. Can you do it cheaper? Yes, you absolutely can, but I still think that $1k a day is a "reasonable" budget if you aren't trying to go dirt cheap and if you want to maximize your time/energy on a golf blowout. And let's be real, there are really not that many people that can carry their own bag for 36/day multiple days in a row. If you can, more power to you.

safmpat

liquor, it's stupid expensive there.

Narrow_Barracuda559

Will be stopping at a liquor store on the way for sure

onederbred

McKees has a great whiskey selection, and the lamb pasty is delicious. Also the Ghost Tree hazy is weak

marlboro__man9

You think? Obviously buy some room booze but I don’t think they gouge that much on the course or restaurants.

mitch8893

Pay < $1 a beer or $6-$10 your choice.

marlboro__man9

Ya so the same as other golf courses, I wouldn’t describe that as stupid expensive.

mitch8893

I havent been but i know everything is expensive there so it could be more than that

marlboro__man9

See I don’t think it’s all that expensive in 2024, all the burgers and sandwiches at mckees are <20 bucks. Pasta at the new place looks between 20-30. Sandwich and fries for lunch at pac is like 15 bucks. Now it definitely isn’t cheap but when you’re spending all that money and confined to the resort I don’t think they gouge you at all.

safmpat

Mostly referring to the overall cost of liquor in Oregon and Washington

garytyrrell

I think old fashioneds were $22 each when we went

marlboro__man9

The Manhattan is the most expensive cocktail on the menu at Ghost tree and it’s 18, it’s like 14 at the bunker bar with cheaper whisky, draft beer is 8 bucks. Pretty standard 2024 bar prices.

garytyrrell

If you drink a lot, paying bar prices all day every day for a golf trip adds up. We had a fifth of whiskey in our room, but we could have used a few more for times we were just hanging out. That’s all. I happily paid for drinks all week, but would take more booze next time.

marlboro__man9

Oh absolutely, I bring tons of room booze I just don’t think the on course or restaurant prices are out of the norm.

safmpat

I live in Seattle and those are laughable prices. Where is this standard?

marlboro__man9

I literally googled 5 bars in Seattle and they’re 14-18 buck cocktails and 8 dollar pints. Get out more.

safmpat

I can get a pint and a medium shelf cocktail plus good tip all day long for less than 20. Would you like to buy a bridge?

marlboro__man9

Ya and I can find a dingy dive and drink 2 buck PBR, I can play 30 buck muni golf. Go to an upscale bar in Seattle and the prices are the same as the upscale bar at the upscale resort course.

beerandsocks

I’m gonna check in on this since I’m going in September this year. But I’ve noted chapstick and face moisturizer for the wind, gold bond for the chafing, and change of socks for each round.

makithejap

Am I the only one using lip balm as an all purpose relief aid?

gfunk55

👆 and apply the lip balm multiple times per round. My lips actually got swollen, it was weird. Plus Ibuprofen, tape / 2nd skin stuff in case you get blisters.

garytyrrell

Yeah I usually apply it to my driver every couple holes to be sure

Brokeman6

Best tip I’ve ever been given by my athletic trainers is to use ZINC OXIDE on blisters. Thank me later. Blister has to be open. Or just raw. It’ll be completely fine the next day.

Narrow_Barracuda559

Yep, those are good. I am bring two pairs of shoes for sure. Also doing ship sticks for the clubs

gfunk55

People have different opinions and it depends on your transportation situation, but if you have a direct flight to whichever airport you're using I wouldn't do ship sticks. If you're changing planes then I'd consider it maybe.

Narrow_Barracuda559

Yeah, never really used ship sticks before, but they are working with the podcast I am a part of, so we will give it a try.

onederbred

AVOID at all costs. So many horror stories

beerandsocks

I’m curious about the greens too. Would be interested if you do a recap of what you experience. Seemed like the worst was late March/early April. Hopefully they’ve had time to improve. Have a blast man. Can’t wait for my trip, it’ll be my first.

Narrow_Barracuda559

Will do a complete recap on the Break80 Podcast for sure.

dadbuilder

Looking forward to hearing about the conditions. I'm 35 days out from my first trip. I cannot wait!!![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Narrow_Barracuda559

Will do a full review on the Break80 Podcast for sure. Just subscribe on apple or spotify. We will keep the review real and honest.

PhingerPhoods

Yeah buddy bring your pocketbook

Narrow_Barracuda559

Part of it is comped, which helps, but there are cheaper parts of the year to go without question.

Significant-Walk-631

Don’t bother with an umbrella it’ll get thrashed in the wind. 36 a day is a lot to handle but their par 3 course in the afternoon is great to play and don’t necessarily need a caddie. If “Dave Hilton, KC Gonzales, or Alan “Scotty” Young is there and available, they are in my opinion the best caddies, but ask the caddie managers on what your playing style is like and they should be able to pair you with someone good for you. Expect to pay around 200 or more per round to your caddie and they’ll be happy with that as a fair price. Pack undergarments and light over garments as temp fluctuations are very common even during the rounds. Don’t bother bringing a tour bag or a heavy bag like anything leather as these guys are although athletes sometimes double bag it and be as light as possible so even if if you want to keep your main bag for supplies like balls etc… they have their own bags for lightweight carrying no charge and are def a great asset to use.

Narrow_Barracuda559

Thanks

Significant-Walk-631

Np bud. Enjoy the rounds. Some of the best golf on the planet there and trails dunes and pacific are usually the best conditions there. Don’t be surprised about the greens on sheep ranch or old Mac as they’re not quite like putting on perfect surfaces. They’re a bit raw and still roll but not like Augusta etc. They are a thin packed fescue but dunes trails pac and the par 3 are poa annua and are pretty much typically the best seaside greens one could play on.

Narrow_Barracuda559

I have played the Old Course and they don’t roll smooth, doesn’t lessen the experience.

BGOG83

Extra socks and shoes. It’s a lot of walking. You won’t lose golf balls, so don’t load your bag too much. As for clothing. It’s a crapshoot what the weather and temps will be at all…..it also seems to change every hour.

onederbred

Oh yeah. Prepare for sore feet and maybe some chafing. Trails is really the only course you can lose balls on

Ornery_Brilliant_350

Golf club

RegularWrap7317

I played there 3 weeks ago. It was 75 degrees, sunny and beautiful everywhere on Oregon coast except when I got to Bandon. It was blowing 30-40 mph consistently with gusts to 60 mph. I was wearing shorts and golf shirt when I pulled into parking lot and EVERYONE was wearing winter golf wear - pants, long sleeves, jackets & wool caps. I was thankful I had a pullover in my car but it was cold. Be prepared for wind and cold.

Losalou52

It’s been a windy spring and summer so far. My daughter had a her OGA Jr tournament at Charlotte’s this past weekend and it was pretty windy but not terrible. Best days right now are the overcast mornings before the wind picks up. September and October are the best months out there. https://preview.redd.it/a6vi2r4ag29d1.jpeg?width=1096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab9127824668b0c9cefe3313f3cbbbb0e7f1e342

king_platypus

Extra socks

SouthernLefty

Good footwear. Played 36 3 days in a row, I changed socks and shoes between rounds. Made such a huge difference. Tylenol. Take 2 after your morning row with lunch. (Assuming you are playing afternoon as well) Good windbreaker/rain jacket. I got really lucky and never needed it for rain, but definitely got windy afternoon rounds. Don’t forget to check out Charlottes at the practice facility. Free 9-hole course that many didn’t know existed!

Coxxy24

Buy the goretex ecco walking shoes. Best decision I ever made for walking 36. Having done it so many times before they were recommended to me by a caddie out there and it was the first trip coming back that I didn’t end up with a ton of blisters. Something about the salt air makes your feet super moist the whole time. The goretex makes the shoe more permeable.

Accomplished-Box6478

I've got over 70 rounds in there. So here are my thoughts. Lots of good suggestions below from other people too. 1) Really good walking golf shoes, perhaps two pair, 2) Socks for every round 3) light weight Wind/Rain gear 4) Huge cooler full of ice, water, liquor, snacks, sandwich supplies for your room, breakfast food too. Load your room up with food 5) Plan for playing more than 1 round a day., there is nothing else to do. If you can get enough time between rounds to go back to room, shower and change 6) Beanie or tight hat for wind. 7) Caddie and Cash for caddies. Tip well! 8) Fore-caddy who you give camera to. 8) Empty your bag of anything extra and leave it in your room 10) Bring Band-Aids, eye drops, lip balm and sunscreen and ... oh... bring humility, you are going to get lit up.

McKeagar

I went to Bandon last November so although I didn’t go during the summer months here are some things I’m glad I had and wish I brought: Don’t bring as many balls as you think you’ll need. I am pretty wild off the tee but didn’t even go through a dozen in 7 rounds. Be prepared for the rain even if it’s not in the forecast. Having pants and jacket is super nice, maybe a windbreaker vest for cold windy conditions. Rain gloves are a must in your back at all times. Don’t bring a small carry golf bag because you’ll end up just pulling it on their carts the whole week. I wish I used a bag with more pocket space for my layers I would shed as the round went on and all my rain gear. Minimum 2 pairs of shoes, I brought 3 and had a rotation of dry ones and fresh feeling shoes every round. There is a driving range over at the Sheep Ranch that isn’t ever crowded. If you have a round at the Sheep Ranch or somewhere close, or the practice facility is too full this is a great spot. I also recommend doing the 11 hole loop at the Sheep Ranch if you don’t have time or energy for a full 18 reround after your first one in the morning. The loop starts on 1 and then you finish on the 11th par 5 volcano hole right by the club house. In the afternoon the Sheep Ranch isn’t very busy, we went out with 3 of us and didn’t have a single person in front or behind us for the full 11 holes. 29 holes in a day is also the perfect amount. Most of all just enjoy the courses. You’ll get bad breaks and good breaks, but the golf is incredibly fun and the courses I thought I wouldn’t care for as much ended up being my favorites. Every single course is a must play! Enjoy

lankysig2029

Theragun. Don't skip the protein balls at the snack shacks. Don't bring an umbrella. Switch socks between each round. Caddy's....meh. You can get a bad one and it can really ruin your round. Maybe one for the group for some routing information on some holes. If you get a good one, tip him well and request for the rest of your rounds. Bring booze for the room. Bunker bar stays open for awhile but sometimes it's nice to have drinks you've already paid for. I'd also suggest for those complaining about price...April is probably the best month to go. We start getting nice weather usually in March/April in Southern Oregon. While it's cooler at the coast you have a good chance of getting a 65 degree day and the price is cheaper than what you get in May- October. I go over about twice a year (day trip) and every other year we do a 4 day trip. Haven't gotten to Shorty's yet but heard nothing but great things.

adot14

Depending on how many rounds you play. Fresh pair of socks will be your best friend

Narrow_Barracuda559

Haha, no doubt. We are playing 18-36-36-36-18

onederbred

Also, get the energy balls they sell at all the clubhouses. They’re so damn good. (They do contain peanut butter, so hopefully you’re not allergic)

Mitch_cumstain

I dunno what kinda socks people wear but stay away from cotton and you’re good. Get some wool. Stays fresh.

ThisMTJew

A windbreaker

Kynance123

Golf balls !!

Maleficent_Pop_1980

Dr Scholls Blister Defense for your feet. Your phone for pictures. Put the phone number of the van service in your phone as soon as you get there (it runs 24/7). A good beanie (if you dont have one, buy A TurtleFur one from one of the pro shops).. Bandon is the place of golf dreams, enjoy!

GrandpaShark710

An extra dozen balls?

New-Pollution536

Make sure you have comfortable golf shoes

NBA-014

Kentwool socks. Gotta keep your feet dry! ChapStick for the dry lips. Sunglasses to protect your eyes if it's windy.

Mundpetcockvalve91

I’ve been there over 80 times, I live in Oregon. I always pack as if it will be great for nine holes and raining for nine holes. It does get cold on the coast at night so bring a good sweatshirt and pants. Have a blast.

Drogalov

If your anything like me about 6 dozen balls

StrungoutScott

i played 7 rounds a couple months back and lost a total of 3 balls. Pretty sure all 3 were lost on trails.

Mountainminer

Bro take me seriously when I say, buy some anti chaff product. Either runners glide or whatever powder doesn’t give you ball cancer. I played all the courses they had at the time in 3 days a few years ago and my boys and my ass were rubbed raw. The sea air, the dust in the wind, sweat, and walking 40 miles is nothing to trifle with.

Deepdesertconcepts

Lightweight wool socks

elvabaillo

Many, many balls

TuluRobertson

Brandon’s tunes. For Brandon

VitaeVerano

A pencil with an eraser.

garytyrrell

More socks than you think. Especially if you’re going multiple rounds in a day. I had 2 pairs/day and ran out. Alcohol - there’s plenty to be had at McKee’s and the other pubs, but would have been nice if we had some whiskey in the room.

Revolutionary_Test64

Probably an excessive number of golf balls

Rockcreek11

If there is any rain in the forecast I always bring two pairs of shoes and a change of socks. Nothing worse than walking that 2nd 18 in wet shoes. Bring blister patches of some sort. If you do get a blister you have to walk still and you don’t want that to kill your time.

GolfandMaybe3People

If this is a multiple day trip with 36 holes a day, I like to slip out of the golf shoes for the afternoon round and play in my sneakers. Your feet will thank you.

DaveWW00

Extra golf balls

Hoyle33

All putters Every. Single. Club.

GoLow86

I went in May of this year. Rain pants are clutch for the wind. I wore shorts and rain pants over and it was perfect. Also change your socks/shoes between rounds if you are playing 36. Feet will thank you. We played 36 a day 3 days in a row. It was an awesome experience.

Dry-Leadership2484

Everything you own and then only wear the same 3 things the whole trip

Poopnakedyeah

Baby powder if you start chaffing

venicegolfbum

Lip balm, sunscreen, socks, lightweight layer options - vest, golf hoodie, windbreaker. Above all else bring your imagination and listen carefully to your caddie. Enjoy - it is the greatest experience I’ve ever had in golf.

5567623976251

Extra balls!

mikerulu

Been multiple times over the last couple decades. Keep the polos at home; it’s not that kind of place. You need to dress in layers even in the summer. Good base layer, light hoodie, vest etc. The wind isn’t typical wind; it has salt in it. It will dry you out very quick. With that in mind you need to drink a ton of water on the course. Chapstick and sunscreen for your face are a must. The courses are not flat by any means and there are no “cart paths” so don’t expect to walk on nice trails in between holes so good walking golf shoes will be your best bet. I would 100% go through your bag now and take out everything you don’t need. If you’re getting a caddie and they think your bag is too heavy they will make you use one of their bags. If you’re push carting you don’t want the extra weight. I’m heading up in October for my annual trip. I can’t wait to play the new course. Have fun!

Icy_Faithlessness418

3-4 dozen balls and an extra putter after you throw yours into the ocean.
