I'd argue American remakes in general. Old Boy, Quarantine, Martyrs, Inside, just to name a few that either missed the point of the original or were just lazy cash grabs. I have a feeling the upcoming remake of Speak no Evil is going to be the same, but I truly hated the original so my opinion is probably tainted by that.
I'd put Tom Hanks in the main role. He'd pull of the cheesy rom-com first half, and if you've seen his great perfomance of shock at the end of Captain Phillips, he'd be great as the victim at the end.
Would have love to seen it. Audition is one of those rare adaptations, similar to No Country For Old Men, where it reaches the same high quality of the novel it’s based on.
