"Kirin kirin kirin" - Kevin Bacon

velvethippo420

if they had to do a remake, Kevin Bacon would be a good casting choice. that being said, I feel like the original is accessible enough for a global audience.

silversnapper

Accessible? You have to suffer through a boring melodrama for an hour before anything violent happens.

heyitsEnricoPallazzo

Do you also hate foreplay?

velvethippo420

i disagree. melodrama rules and the heightened emotions make it a great counterpart to horror.

VenustoCaligo

Violence without suspense isn't Horror.

metalyger

It can be absolutely fun, like the whole splatter subgenre. Every horror movie doesn't need to be trying to scare people to justify existing.

ElAutistico

Lmao what? If you want straight snuff stuff and nothing else then you should stick to Saw. The violence/climax is completely worthless without characters and a good story.

Endiamon

The first half is way closer to a romcom than melodrama.

Obskuro

This would work so well with a typical western romcom actor like Hugh Grant or John Cusack.

IAmThePonch

I actually somewhat agree that it takes a touch too long to get to the horror. Probably could have been trimmed but this is common in a lot of Japanese media from what I’ve seen

dethb0y

I could see him pulling it off.

SmoothAd9551

Same, I thought immediately “why didn’t he?”

FractalGeometric356

__At its heart, _Audition_ is a movie about a woman who gives up on love.__ Like people always say (as if this was a defect and not a feature) it starts like a rom-com and slowly twists itself into a gross-out. You need a male lead who does rom-com and looks like a puppy. You need a guy that makes the audience believe that he can get her to learn to trust again. __That’s what makes the needles hurt extra bad.__ May I suggest ###Paul Rᴜᴅᴅ also acceptable would be ###Hugh Gʀᴀɴᴛ (Assuming this was circa 2005 when it happened.)

tommybare

Hugh Grant is a really inspired choice. I could see that.

Toonami88

"Kevin Bacon is an American treasure, even when he's playing an invisible rapist!"

i___may

Rarely does a remake of an iconic Asian horror like this even come close to the original. Just look at Old Boy

morganfreenomorph

I'd argue American remakes in general. Old Boy, Quarantine, Martyrs, Inside, just to name a few that either missed the point of the original or were just lazy cash grabs. I have a feeling the upcoming remake of Speak no Evil is going to be the same, but I truly hated the original so my opinion is probably tainted by that.

Shoddy_Newspaper_718

Nah, I don't think he would be a good fit for the role of Asami.

MobWacko1000

Can we finally start asking why people won't watch movies that aren't set in America? Why are American remakes still happening?

Brushesofcolours

What? Now why would they remake this movie. This is just like when i heard hollywood going to do remake for train to busan.

7thEvan

Let’s just leave horror royalty alone please.

rEmEmBeR-tHe-tReMoLo

It should be Tom Hanks. No one wants to see Tom Hanks go through the finale of that movie. Would make the horror even better.

vpox

I'd put Tom Hanks in the main role. He'd pull of the cheesy rom-com first half, and if you've seen his great perfomance of shock at the end of Captain Phillips, he'd be great as the victim at the end.

DogsDontWearPantss

Thank the horror gods he didn't!

Sourflow

No thank you. More original ideas please.

Batman-and-Hobbes

What if Kevin Bacon did a Tremors remake but he played the Graboids.

ReanimatedViscera

Would have love to seen it. Audition is one of those rare adaptations, similar to No Country For Old Men, where it reaches the same high quality of the novel it’s based on.

ReverendEntity

Who would they have cast for the Asami role?

morganfreenomorph

Kevin Bacon

allyourdipbelongtome

Audition is a really fun movie if anyone hasn't seen it, check it out!

ImpressionFeisty8359

He could make it work.

TraditionalOlive9187

What is our idiotic need to remake foreign films. The Americanized versions are never better. I include The Ring in this rant

Wanlain

I have never wanted to see a remake more than this!

bobface222

That sounds awful.

[deleted]

Well twist my tits. I had no idea.

vanillatcube

I think John Cusack would be a good fit.

Snackdoc189

I don't really think it needs a remake, but if they did can you imagine Mia Goth as Asami?

FractalGeometric356

Too obvi. Saoirse Rᴏɴᴀɴ

Snackdoc189

She's phenomenal

MitchellSFold

Producer A "Hey, you know who we should get to play Shigeharu in the remake?" Producer B "Who?" A "Kevin Bacon" B "Who?" A "Kevin Bacon!" B " " A "Well, you know John Malkovich?" B "Yeah, of course" A "He was in Death of a Salesman with Dustin Hoffman" B "Right" A "Dustin Hoffman was in Sleepers with-" B "-Kevin Bacon! Got it. That guy. Yeah, he'd be cool"

bigbozobro

i found this movie through a list of most disturbing movies and in comparison to the rest i was not necessarily very disturbed

ghost_of_anansi

don't cut yourself on that edge . . .

bigbozobro

huh

johngie

I read the plot synopsis on Wikipedia like 15 years ago, and it was probably one of the most disturbing things I'd ever read at the time.  But now, having watched it? Barely a blip on the radar.

GeeEhm

Ah yes, that iconic film "Friday the 18th" starring Kevin Bacon. ETA: I see they corrected it in the article and it now has the correct movie name.
