I find cleaning mold lines very satisfying and somewhat relaxing. Guess I'm lucky. Although I do start to notice them on plastic appliances and I have to fight the urge to scrape them off.

auchenai

For me it's assembly in general. Once it's built my motivation disappears

Sablesweetheart

Same. I love the building process the most.

_Greyworm

It's funny, I don't like building, but love painting

[deleted]

I hate both i just like to play the game.

wishesandhopes

I hate resin kits but enjoy plastic, game is my favourite part too though.

Agreeable_Objective

I really like adding customization bits and giving them cool bases too. I gave one of my Krieg soldiers a skull on his hip like in one of the artworks in the book. Then I have him a trench base that had him elevated off the ground so it looked more like a display piece. Still unpainted and will remain so for a long time most likely

Stankpool

Have you tried gunpla before? Most of the models don't require painting or glue to build. Obviously its not 40k related but if you enjoy building it sure is fun.

Sablesweetheart

I have a few kits, yes! Glueing I don't mind, I convert a lot for 40k anyway, really getting into scenic bases. I enjoy painting and I'm decrnt at it, I just love building. Lol I also spend as much on Legos annually as I do on 40k some years.

Live-D8

My assembled guys outnumber my painted 4 to 1

Suitable_Fig9826

I always build first cause it's fun, but i forget to paint before, so i always feel bad.

QQasaurus

I have two young kids and every single toy has mold lines. I can't not notice it at this point and it makes my eye twitch.

Darthasie

I laughed at this, because at first I thought what a freak, but then I realised I was doing it myself to my pen as I was reading haha.

ScudleyScudderson

It's like filing my nails. Except, I don't have nails. Still, very chill.

JoeMcDingleDongle

>Except, I don't have nails Go on...

Budgernaut

This is so me, too! Like Mold lines on my car's dash components bother me now.

SoftServe2

I have discovered mold lines on my glass mugs and cabinet hardware, both of which will plague me forever.

renoise

You are lucky. Truly, mould line cleaning is the worst part of the hobby for me.

AshleyRiot1990

I love assembly but God those mould lines in unreacheable places

gardenofhounds

Use a tiny amount of Tamiya cement brushed over the area and they dissolve! Perfect for plasma coils and THESE GOD DAMN TYRANID WARRIORS and any other little crevice. Miracle product! I go over everything with a 600 then 3000 grit sanding sponge after shaving them down too. My mans is smoov.

AshleyRiot1990

Never heard of this, will give it a try, thanks

gardenofhounds

Just make sure you use a thin amount and don’t huff it too hard!

snouz

I do mold line scrapping before gluing, also I sometimes fill those gaps in convex places with sprue goo and scatch it again when dry, for a perfectly smooth surface.

AshleyRiot1990

I do it also, but it's so time consuming

themonkoffunk77

I don't mind mold lines, but gap filling drains my motivation so much. I've tried probably every single potential solution as well, sproo goo, miliput, green stuff, various glues, and more. It's always extremely tedious and is never just as simple as opening the product and applying it. They're time consuming and often needs to be gone over a second time or third. I have a judticiar with a tiny gap in his cloak that's 2 rounds of alcohol downed miliput just won't smooth easily and it makes me want to break things.

Kilocong

Hey, I generally don't know what I'm doing so take this as a amateur post, but I use Vallejo putty. Just squeeze it out the tube, I normally apply a small amount with brush or my scalpel and then run my finger over it and it fills gaps fairly well, not 100% but it's really quick for the smaller stuff / gap fills. Edit: if you haven't tried it!

themonkoffunk77

I actually haven't tried vallejo putty and at this point why not try it lol. I'll be honest and say I'm extremely anal about the gaps, so I may be too critical of them.

TL89II

I dont fuck with mold lines, unless I'm entering a paint comp or doing a commission. Fuck em, they don't bother me. I aint drilling any fuckin barrels either

Explotography

Same. I'm colorblind so my models aren't gonna look great anyway. Why worry about mold lines on top of that?

Slanahesh

A good hobby blade will deal with the most prominent mold lines and the tip will drill your barrels with a simple spin. Takes a few minutes per model in my experience.

TL89II

Yea, but I don't wanna. Everything that's not an HQ gets the same treatment: good enough. HQs / centerpiece models get all the love. I'll drill their barrels and remove their mold lines. I have way too many models to get through, that few minutes per model adds up fast.

JoeMcDingleDongle

Agree with you on mold lines, but "a simple spin" for the barrels is some hyperbole. I mean maybe if you just want the appearance of a hollowed out barrel with no regard for how centered it is, I suppose it is simple. Or maybe you have incredible accuracy that most folks don't possess. I don't know. What I do know is if a barrel is slightly off for me I notice it and I don't like it lol, so I go with not drilling any barrels at all for my own sanity.

Rosendorn_the_Bard

Use your hobby knife to drill a small pilot (or the whole thing). Start slow and check. If you're off, adjust it. Had to learn this the hard way drilling Grey Knight storm bolters.

BoardgameGameGuy

My eyesight is so bad that when they are a foot away on the table, I can’t even see them. So I don’t bother. Assemble, paint, play. Not necessarily in that order. Haha

Alpha1CentauriC

Who hurt you??

TL89II

Not the mold lines.

Not_Mortarion

Yesterday I finished painting my witchseeker superior, in preparation for ashes of faith, but man I don't know if I can do 4 more, I spent too much time on this one. I love kill team and painting every model with the same dedication of a named character, but sometimes it feels a bit uphill

floatingspacerocks

Don't thin your paint and they will never be an issue

genteel_wherewithal

I was actually surprised by how bad the mould lines were on the Hearthkyn. I thought GW had kind of moved past them being this bad or this awkwardly placed.

stdfactory

I bought new sanding sticks with thick foam in the middle. It's slower but more enjoyable now.

wendiego

Try to start playing 40k 🤣

bay_watch_colorado

I refuse to remove mould lines unless I'm entering the model in a competition

FutureFivePl

Sand paper (the higher grit type) It's super easy and gets the job done better then a lot of other things

FluffyGorgon

Best tip I can give as someone who does only hobby and zero actual play. Get yourself a Dremel. With a little practice you can erase those mould lines very effectively. Especially on larger models.

[deleted]

On one of the older demon models the mold lines were just butt cracks.

ryusai72

Stupid sexy demons

Dangerous_Dinner9607

Try melting the mold lines with tamiya extra thin.

merzbeaux

I have pretty bad ADHD and even now that I’m medicated and have a good method (I use the GW moldline tool for simple areas and switch to the tip of an X-acto for small or complex areas) the cleanup process always slows my work flow to a crawl. What stresses me out more than mold lines now is removing sprue attachments, especially on areas with detail or complex shapes; even after getting good at shaving as much as possible with a knife and using flexible sanding sticks I still worry about sanding away detail.

Ueberprivate

Definitely remove them before assembly, some people seem to not do that and make it harder that way. But yeah, it's annoying.

carefulllypoast

ugh right? i do it piece by piece so i don't miss anything or waste time looking for something ive already cleaned. sucks

Cheeseburger2137

I needed to use a few plastic bits from 15 years ago recently. I swear cleaning it up was a nightmare, it took the amount of time in which i could clean and assemble 5 modern models.

merzbeaux

It’s even worse if it’s a model that went a long time in production without being replaced; they start to get significant mold shifting

Quandaledinglenut99

I'm torn with mold tines,.sometimes I scrap and sometimes I say fuck it and just paint over them. Just depends

hobby_master_

I dislike assembly the most

SouzTheTaxman

I will build and clean all of your models if you paint mine. My pile of shame is all ready to prime...

okieviacal

This is why I’m more inclined to buy used minis and repaint them. The prep and assembly is mind numbing.

[deleted]

The heavy intercessors kit is full of big mold lines. Not hard to remove just takes a second pass a lot. Only kit I got a little lazy with.

Batpipes521

They don’t really bother me. I try to get the really big ones but for the most part but if it’s somewhere I’m not going to see a lot or at all, I don’t worry too much.

SSBAJA

I just leave the mould lines on and paint them to look like cracks or damage in my armor
