I rode for the first time in like 5 years today. On my way back to the house I hit a slab of sidewalk that was dropped about an inch and my board broke at the rear truck. Any advice moving forward?

bigbuzzyy13

Santa Cruz drop-thru if that changes anything

tonioronto

Santa Cruz skateboards are pretty solid but their longboards are very cheap…

Witchkraftrs

Don't buy a santa cruz next time lol

I fancy building a dh board for some cheap fairly safe thrills (other than skateboarding I come from a motorbike stunting background), but having looked around the internet for information for the past few weeks I’m more confused than ever. It may or may not be useless information but I skate street and a tiny bit of park on an 8 or a 7.75 depending on the day, and bowl on an 8.25 all on venture highs. All I know is I want a top mount no longer than around 36” (ideally a uk brand but it’s not a deal breaker if not) and i HAVE to have white/off white wheels. Trucks are confusing me and I have no idea about deck brands, I have a uk 9/us 10 foot, I’m 5’10 12.5-13 stone/180ish lbs. What would you suggest I build if you were in my position?

[deleted]

Thanks for the help guys, I’ve been banging my head against the wall trying to understand setups but now I feel I’ve got somewhere to start and be able to look further without being totally out of the loop

moms_spaghetti_101

If you're based in the UK then newtons shred and slide perfect will have most of what you need. I'd go for raked caliber 3 trucks and if you want white wheels then the slide perfect supremacy's are sick. I'm terms of decks that's probably more personal, but you could take a look at the zenit marble sk, landyachtz cheese grater, or some prism decks. If you wanna understand the gear choices better then take a look at some of downill 254's videos and blog posts.

chaqintaza

Pantheon Gaia, 150-159mm Paris or bear or caliber trucks with a split angle (50/40ish), white 69mm Powell snakes, wear a helmet and slide gloves and learn sliding and footbraking. I like Paris 150mm on 50/43 angles.

[deleted]

Thank you bro, any other suggestions for a deck? Based on a (very) quick Google it looks like the gaia isn’t readily available in the uk. I don’t mind importing stuff but if I can make my life easier I’m all for it. Also bearings, am I good with my usual bronson g3 or am I after something else, ceramics?

tonioronto

Look at Landyachtz, they’re pretty available worldwide. Like the Freedive for example: https://landyachtz.com/collections/downhill-freeride Bronson bearings will do, just ensure to add some spacers. Don’t go with ceramic, waste of money. Other option, Zealous bearings: cheap, durable and built in spacers.

[deleted]

Also sorry everyone for bombarding you with so many questions but I’ve seen people run a staggered truck setup front and rear (165mm front, 150mm rear for example), any real benefit to this or not?

tonioronto

More agility for racing. If you’re just learning downhill, don’t bother yet.

[deleted]

Awesome, thank you

[deleted]

Thank you bro. I really like the shape of that freedive, fairly cheap compared to a lot I’ve been seeing aswell. That’s great to hear the bronsons will be alright, I like to use as many of the same parts as possible between different setups so I can just have the one basic spares kit, and they’re only £5 more than the zealous you mention. Its a good thing you mentioned the spacers though as I don’t think I’ve ever used an axle spacer in my life so I’d never of thought of it.

tonioronto

You’re welcome!

Kermit-K4zi

zealous steel bearings, or the cheapest builtin

ettonlou

I'd you can find one, the Landyachtz Cheese Grater is 36 inches.

Srryifckdurmom

Can anybody identify the brand of these wheels? https://imgur.com/a/9iOnrEx They’re on an old sector9 i thrifted. I’ve never seen the imprinted logo these have.

xmasterZx

I think that’s Globe?

yamisonic

Globe for sure!

Srryifckdurmom

Aww thanks y’all. I woulda never been able to figure that out. Maybe I can dial in the duro/hardness based on color. I research A lot of stuff in Biology, But Forsure wouldn’t have figured this out . Thank you . + I couldn’t post a picture as my own individual post, with less than 50 karma.

Srryifckdurmom

I’ll just kindly email their staff

Srryifckdurmom

Thank you :)

Quick question: I‘m looking to get a loaded Icarus and was wondering which flex would be right for me as I weigh around 85kg and never hat a flexy longboard before

Q1go

I grew up lying down or sitting on my skateboard and doing turns by leaning. Wanting to get into it again with the proper equipment and not have grip tape wreck my pants lol. Any idea of costs for how this might happen, potentially street luge or buttboarding, feasibility, and difficulty getting started? I live in MD, USA. I was thinking of something like [this board](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WSG4856/) but I'm not sure. My balance in my legs isnt great which is why I didn't skateboard traditionally growing up like my family. I'm fairly newish but the fam has traditional skateboards and even longboards too. I have one skateboard to my name.

selemaxpagi

What I can do to gain confidence again from riding longboard?

santacruisin

kneepads

LtRand0m

I got a deck that was low to the ground, and then I just took it easy and enjoyed my rides. A low-to-the-ground deck made it easier for me to build confidence pushing, but I also just had fun with learning how push properly and cruising the sidewalk. Having a group of friends with you also helps.

Puzzleheaded_Ad_7849

Just get back on the board. Depends on what your particular problem is, but take it easy, don’t push yourself. Only.. get back on the board. That’s how you regain confidence and face whatever it is that’s troubling you.

mustacheloli

How much is ok for wheels to stick out of the deck width? The only good trucks I have are some bears 180mm but paired with my 4president they stick out about 2~2.5cm and I can't flip them because of the shape of the lips.

ettonlou

As long as you aren't kicking them and getting elected from your board when you push, it's fine. I have 184mm Cal 3s with 90mm Boa Hatchlings on my Bustin Sportster and I don't have a problem with that setup. I kicked them and got ejected a couple times at first because it was different, but I'm aware of it and it stopped being a problem. Rail matching really isn't as big a deal as some people make it out to be.

TheSupaBloopa

Kinda depends on what you’re doing. Rail matching is a newer thing, no one used to care about that. It basically will just make your board turn in slower. No optimal but far from unrideable.

Plenty-Amphibian8525

How do u loosen the trucks for easier maneuver and dont risk speed wobbles?

chaqintaza

You do it with proper premium bushings and tightening the kingpin nut the right amount. Just enough that you can't spin the bushings or washers by hand. Riptide krank and venom hpf formulas are somewhat forgiving for tightening the nut down past that point but the real key is the right bushing durometer and shape combo for your weight and chosen discipline.

ettonlou

This. There are some good videos on YouTube explaining and demonstrating the right about of tightness and how to reach that point. Take your weight into consideration and use the proper gear. If you need stiffer bushings to support your weight, get new bushings. Wide RKP trucks, a longer wheelbase, and a deck lower to the ground will help. I'd say stay away from super high rebound bushings and stick with high performance formulas. As an example, if you're trying to bomb hills with a cruiser on TKPs, you're using the wrong gear. If you get wobbles, you can try to lean in a direction and carve out of them.

TheSupaBloopa

You want your bushings to be tightened down to the point where you can’t spin the washer with your fingers. If you want things to feel even looser beyond that you need to swap to some softer bushings. Avoiding speed wobbles does largely come down to skill and experience as others have said. Although, if you are trying to be more comfortable at speed you can experiment with de-wedging your back truck, or at the very least putting harder bushings in the back truck. Less turn from the back = more stability. Keep your weight up front too and turn from the front.

mustacheloli

I agree with the other answer below. Sadly the more u tighten the trucks the less maneuverability you get. The more skilled you get (aka, your ankles and core get stronger) the more you can control, thus allowing you to loosen them up. Keep on shredding and you'll get better with time

ApprehensivePeach258

You become more skilled. That answer sucks, but the better you get, the looser you can control. Keep skating, that's the only way
