Kinda wish he could have retired with us. Saw us through the last of the dark days, was professional, and did work in the community
I’ll never forget the no-shave-until-.500 saga
HB is a GREAT pickup for the Spurs. He was a key player with the Warriors, and for the Kings. Honestly I don’t think this move would make the Spurs an immediate contender but it will pay dividends in young player development, especially if they get a lottery pick this year
Still taking up minutes we’d rather use developing future bigs. Hopefully he can regain some value before the deadline and some poor team convinces themselves they need him for a playoff run.
He’s over 7 feet tall so he should be a big, but I don’t actually envision a future where he fills out his frame and becomes a beast. Big height, but guard weight.
Yeah, it’s tricky. I figured someone who watches Hornets or watched OKC more may have a clue. Basketball reference play by play data has him being a PF mainly in the league, and second a center.
His per 36 min numbers don’t look bad on the hornets. Whether he sustains it or not is anyone’s guess, but I doubt he’s out of the league because of that. 14 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 stocks, 2 turnovers, 2 fouls, on 55% true shooting percentage isn’t bad, for a 22 year old that’s shown statistical improvement at least with cutting down turnovers.
If anything, I’m surprised the Hornets waived him. Granted he only played 18 games for them, so limited sample size.
I think due to injury history and everything, he’s probably best as an off the bench offensive spark that way they can limit his minutes. He’s not a bad player for his age and stature, but has a lot of holes in his game ESPECIALLY on the defensive end. I had the pleasure of seeing him and Tre Mann lead the Thunder against the Magic during Franz’s and Giddey’s rookie year. He’s genuinely an interesting player to watch in a league full of interesting players to watch. I haven’t done a deep dive on his career, but I do think he’s fun so I have paid attention to him most of his career. He’s kinda like the precursor to Chet and Wemby, just in a way less impactful way.
While I’m extremely hesitant to call any contract untradeable as it seems every year the untradeable contract gets traded, however the Bulls would need to add too many picks to make it seem worthwhile if you believe the reports out there about the trade offers involving Lavine the past few weeks that other teams turned down.
If we trade picks to get rid of Zach that might be the worst move by our FO yet. I’m hoping a team becomes desperate or we just wait it out until the deadline and get his value back up during the season
It doesn’t make any sense to trade locks to get rid of Lavine. The goal is to tank, why would you be in a rush to tank and give up picks when the whole point of tanking is to Lee your picks? Lavine can do a fine job commanding a tank.
I read your comment before I saw your flair and assumed you were a Spurs fan. Word for word what you said could have applied to Demar's tenure in San Antonio. That dude is the most consummate of pros I have witnessed since Timmy. Nothing but love for Demar and I will be rooting for Sacramento this year against everybody but the Spurs.
Yup and the Kings adding him without losing Huerter is pretty big imo. They have a pretty good team but their depth is pretty shaky. They still need a bit more depth at the 4 when Keagan sits but besides that they have a really strong squad.
These guys typically don’t have their own private jets, they utilize charter services, or have memberships to private/charter services. Basically a bunch of rich people share jets.
DeRoz does a direct camera stare too, that's what they're referencing above.
But I'm sure the owl got to enjoy a few delicious mice after filming that shot
Hawks were in the Play In and got the 1st pick. Anything is possible. Bulls 5 years ago went 22-60 and picked 7th. This shit is a crapshoot. We just want a chance for Flagg or a high upside prospect
Was that unprotected pick swap really necessary tho? S/O to the spurs for continuing to get these unprotected picks 6,7 years out for essentially salary dumps
Edit: last time the kings gave up a swap to dump salary that pick turned into Jayson Tatum
I have so much animosity for Warrior fans in Sac... It's wild. Then I come here and see this sane Sac loving Warrior fans topping the comments, it's causing some confusion.... Bro-nemy
I’m a life long warriors fan who now lives in Sac and I’ve always loved and rooted for the Kings since the White Chocolate and Chris Webber days
We were both such horrendous franchises for so long, I’ve never had any animosity towards the Kings. It has been and will forever be Fuck LA.
I think they’re the ultimate “oh shit I didn’t know the kings were the 3 seed with 20 games left to play in the season” team. Which is a nice place to be all things considered, lucky playoff seeding and you can make a deep run - would take that in a heartbeat
Fox, Ellis, Murray, DeRozen, Sabonis. Carter, Monk, Heurter, Lyles, Len.
Not a bad rotation at all. Upgrading from Harrison Barnes to Demar DeRozen without having to give up Huerter or a 1st is a complete win.
he's an excellent locker room guy. it seems like he has a very consistent routine, is very even-keeled, and is very involved with the community wherever he goes. he'll probably be able to help the young guys with developing their professionalism (by being a role model/quiet example) along with cp3 (a vocal/possibly impositional leader).
My very amateur, uninformed take is that the Spurs under Pop is equal parts team and culture, and if you fit both you can have a much longer shelf life than elsewhere.
I thought Barnes had flashes of brilliance, but gd it sucked to get 0/0/0 Barnes when it mattered. Meanwhile, he'd open every season with like 30pts in game 1.
I think he can be a good consistent presence on a young team, still a threat from 3 too.
Not a bad deal for them - Wemby will keep getting better and they will be closer to a play in team than a tanking one with CP3 and Wemby, might as well add a vet on a not so horrible 2 year contract that will make them more competitive and help integrate the young guys. Barnes has always been seen as a plus locker room guy so that is a big benefit as well.
Spurs just getting Barnes? Aren't getting anything else? Interesting
EDIT: [The Kings will also send the Spurs a 2032 unprotected pick swap, sources tell ESPN.](https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1809775079846228207)
EDIT 2: [2031, not 2032](https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1809776848814895151)
Bulls didn’t want to take back salary so they needed a team with cap space who could absorb his contract in a trade. Harrison Barnes and an unprotected pick swap is a pretty sweet deal for just doing some paperwork lol
Surprised they got rid of Barnes and not Huerter
Lets see what they do to grab one more forward
Duarte will be our tank commander. Good to get two seconds.
Yea we obviously could have gotten way more if we traded him during the season, but we’re pretty light on seconds going forward so I’ll take whatever value we can get
Also surprised it was Barnes. Kings still have an issue with forward depth and too many guards unless Huerter can play backup 3. I think there's a chance he might be able to, he's roughly big enough. But more likely I think they will try to trade him for a PF, even a bench piece at this point
That’s a fucking steal for Sacramento
It gives the Kings another iso scorer besides Fox and pretty much another clutch guy
Also DeMar is going to help Fox/Monk/Keon/Carter/Murray , literally all their young guys
Happy with this move, honesty I didn’t even know you could do a pick swap 8 years out. Also big respect to the Black Falcon. He got traded from the Mavs mid game but was never anything but professional and a class act. Great guy for Wemby to be around and I bet Pop loves him.
Seems like a steal for the Kings, and San Antonio land a solid vet presence for their young team. My gut says Chicago should have got more back, but maybe I’m overvaluing Derozan?
Chicago and DeRozan both were moving on from eachother. Teams don’t usually get much when there’s no chance of a return, there’s not a ton of leverage.
Get some second rounders. As well as make sure their pick conveys this year since the Spurs can get it, if it conveys (top 10 protected). With Demar for sure not coming back it will all but certain be a top 10 pick. IMO
i know it wouldn't have been feasible, but it would've been a blast to see kawhi, pg13, russie, harden and demar all on the clippers. like, team native socal.
Getting a player like DeRoz is so huge for us. I don't think a lot of the kids here understand thst there is more to creating spacing than just shooting 3s.
Harrison Barnes to the Spurs makes a lot of sense actually. By the way, mad respect to Harrison Barnes, he will always be welcomed in Sacramento.
Kinda wish he could have retired with us. Saw us through the last of the dark days, was professional, and did work in the community I’ll never forget the no-shave-until-.500 saga
HB is a GREAT pickup for the Spurs. He was a key player with the Warriors, and for the Kings. Honestly I don’t think this move would make the Spurs an immediate contender but it will pay dividends in young player development, especially if they get a lottery pick this year
And Dallas
Yall traded him mid game lol
The fans didn't trade anybody. The guy who did was fired
Most former Mavs are always welcomed back even if wearing away jerseys. Except Rondo. Fuck Rondo.
He was informed before a trade might go through. He decided to play anyway. Dude has always been a class act
Sacramento Loves Harrison Barnes
I’m mostly happy for Bulls fans that their team can finally tank.
We still need Zach and Vooch gone
Vucevic might be washed enough by now to command a good tank.
Still taking up minutes we’d rather use developing future bigs. Hopefully he can regain some value before the deadline and some poor team convinces themselves they need him for a playoff run.
These future bigs that we do not have right now lol
You guys will have one when you pick up Poku!
Serious: What position does Poku play? Is he a guard or forward?
He’s over 7 feet tall so he should be a big, but I don’t actually envision a future where he fills out his frame and becomes a beast. Big height, but guard weight.
Yeah, it’s tricky. I figured someone who watches Hornets or watched OKC more may have a clue. Basketball reference play by play data has him being a PF mainly in the league, and second a center. I will not stand for Adama Sanogo disrespect
Dude put up 22 points and 20 rebounds in the one game he played real minutes, he could be a real NBA player if given the chance.
we don’t have any young bigs right now
While I’m extremely hesitant to call any contract untradeable as it seems every year the untradeable contract gets traded, however the Bulls would need to add too many picks to make it seem worthwhile if you believe the reports out there about the trade offers involving Lavine the past few weeks that other teams turned down.

43, 46 and 49 mil for the next three years + 15% trade kicker. Ouch
Zach Lavine avoided the Pistons like a plague, now he wished he was traded there.
Don’t know who avoided whom… His 50 piece last season was a game lost to the pistons
Nice whom usage
Nah Michael is right, it’s a made up word used to trick students
It’s nice that they can tank but not getting a single first round pick for Caruso and Derozan has gotta hurt.
Yeah, wonder if there are any takers for Vuc and Lavine, or if they think they’ve regressed enough that they can stay and still let them fully tank.
Coby will personally put them in the play-in
The bottom third of the east is so bad that the Bulls could easily make the play in game.
goodbye Black Falcon
it's green falcon!!
Don't be so *black falcon* about it
How would you like it if I called you “yellow falcon”??
Whoa whoa whoa
Woah homie no one is trying to get in your grill black falcon
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?!"
Black Falcon, brother I understand what you’re going through.
Yeah *black* falcon, relax.
wow they actually got him boys. that’s a real W for them can’t lie.
Damn right. Welcome to the Texas team that won't trade you mid game Harrison Barnes
Our youngins had to be bailed out by Demar in the clutch. Now the Kings can use him for that 🥹 Edit: nothing but love for Demar. He was so good to us
I read your comment before I saw your flair and assumed you were a Spurs fan. Word for word what you said could have applied to Demar's tenure in San Antonio. That dude is the most consummate of pros I have witnessed since Timmy. Nothing but love for Demar and I will be rooting for Sacramento this year against everybody but the Spurs.
Our best free agent signing ever too.
Pau Gasol?
He probably forgot Gasol played for the Bulls 2014-2016 or he ranks Demar higher than Pay
might be the same for the kings, aside from vlade
Y’all will love him. He’s ride or die
Hey, there’s still plenty of time for Barnes to go 2 for 2 in that regard.
Black Falcon was born to be a Spur.
The west gets thicker
demar rejected 2/80 from bulls such a fking steal.
Kings finally pulled one over in the lakers 22 yrs later
Goddammit we can't get away from the past but we can sure as hell try.
Yup and the Kings adding him without losing Huerter is pretty big imo. They have a pretty good team but their depth is pretty shaky. They still need a bit more depth at the 4 when Keagan sits but besides that they have a really strong squad.
Trey Lyle’s is quietly awesome as a backup.kings really need a better starting pf.
Hey thank you, I appreciate you saying that.
Woj cleaning things up.
I wonder if this is an agent’s way to keep both happy. Shams gets the scoop, Woj gets the details
Excellent theory. Makes sense.
I’m glad DeRoz came home (sorta)
Only like 400 miles away
Which is nothing considering he prob has a private jet. Cp3 supposedly flew back and forth often from the Bay to LA.
These guys typically don’t have their own private jets, they utilize charter services, or have memberships to private/charter services. Basically a bunch of rich people share jets.
Considering LA traffic, it might actually be a faster commute to fly from Sac to the closest airfield than drive within that city.
*the ghost of Kobe has entered the chat*
Helicopters are a whole other level of sketch than airplanes (Still mostly safe though, Safer than automobile travel for sure).
I kinda doubt he has his own personal private jet but he can easy hire one.
They didn't deserve him either
*stares directly at camera*
That owl got done dirty in the video
DeRoz does a direct camera stare too, that's what they're referencing above. But I'm sure the owl got to enjoy a few delicious mice after filming that shot
It’s time to capture the Flagg.
There are like at least 3 or 4 teams in the east worse than you my team included
Hawks were in the Play In and got the 1st pick. Anything is possible. Bulls 5 years ago went 22-60 and picked 7th. This shit is a crapshoot. We just want a chance for Flagg or a high upside prospect
Don’t have to be the worst team anymore to get the top pick.
As a matter of fact the worse team seems to not get the first pick oftentimes
You guys will fall in the lottery so that’s no issue
At least it's a deep draft to get someone good at the 5th pick
Just fell to my knees in a Chondo's
Started weeping at Mikuni
Happy for Kings fans
I’ve been waiting for Barnes to be a Spur for like 5 years now
Honestly he's the most "Spurs" player I can remember on the Kings.
I loved him on the Mavs and wish we didn’t trade him just so we could dump Justin Jackson. He woulda been good to have around Luka. Hope he crushes it
LIGHT THE BEAM
Can't wait for the first time he LIGHTS THE BEAM!
Huh. Not bad, Kings FO. Not bad at all. Interested in seeing where this goes next season.
Was that unprotected pick swap really necessary tho? S/O to the spurs for continuing to get these unprotected picks 6,7 years out for essentially salary dumps Edit: last time the kings gave up a swap to dump salary that pick turned into Jayson Tatum
Counting down to the 2030's when the Spurs are contending and everyone is pissed that they're getting lotto picks year after year lol
I know some Spurs fans who are pissed about it now. Not the smartest bunch.
RemindMe! 7 years
I have so much animosity for Warrior fans in Sac... It's wild. Then I come here and see this sane Sac loving Warrior fans topping the comments, it's causing some confusion.... Bro-nemy
I’m a life long warriors fan who now lives in Sac and I’ve always loved and rooted for the Kings since the White Chocolate and Chris Webber days We were both such horrendous franchises for so long, I’ve never had any animosity towards the Kings. It has been and will forever be Fuck LA.
FTL unifies
Right I can’t be mad at this.
In before we see Kendrick Lamar sitting courtside at a Kings game supporting his boy
closing lineup of fox-monk-derozan-murray-sabonis gonna hit like crack
Barnes is a great pickup for San Antonio, they need a vet in him for the rotation and he’s definitely a player Pop would like.
Kings fans are going to fall in love with those pretty ass eyes
Now move Huerter and picks for Kuzma
If Monte gets this done I will personally wash his car free of charge for life.
As a Wizards fan, I'd take that in a heartbeat. Our GM wants two FRPs tho. 🫤
he would wear a purple fur royal cloak and kings crown walking in on his first day and in his hand would be a bag of panera bread
The Kings have the coolest roster in the West
Malik Monk and Demar Derozan on the same team is badass
Only way it could be cooler if is they had Emilio Estvevez from Repo Man
They should at least run Ken Griffey Jr from little big league at the 2
I think they’re the ultimate “oh shit I didn’t know the kings were the 3 seed with 20 games left to play in the season” team.
Spurs want Harrison Barnes? I guess a good vet
He’s a great vet. I’ll miss him dearly
Did you see the people the spurs were running out there last year? Barnes is a huge upgrade lmao
He’s still pretty good. Inconsistent volume but always efficient.
Great guy too. One of the best people to play for us I can recall.
He seems like a perfect guy for the Spurs. All class
I still miss HB. Just a genuinely good person
And both DeMar and Lamarcus supercharged their efficiency after joining us
Pop loves his old vets, always has. They need them now more than ever.
He’s not even old really. Just couldn’t be what Sac needed at his price
They had to free space for derozan. Wembanyama got cp3 and Barnes now, should be fun to see what the other young guys do too
Wemby, CP3, Barnes, Keldon and Vassell is a fun starting lineup.
Kelton won’t be a starter. It’ll likely be sochan and Barnes in the forward positions.
he's an excellent locker room guy. it seems like he has a very consistent routine, is very even-keeled, and is very involved with the community wherever he goes. he'll probably be able to help the young guys with developing their professionalism (by being a role model/quiet example) along with cp3 (a vocal/possibly impositional leader).
My very amateur, uninformed take is that the Spurs under Pop is equal parts team and culture, and if you fit both you can have a much longer shelf life than elsewhere.
There’s a reason they call him the senator. Just professional all around.
He seems like the type who will go on to have a real second career doing something that matters
Definitely, excited to see what it ends up being.
Barnes is quiet - just go out there and play type too.
Honestly Barnes seems like the perfect type of vet for the Spurs. He’s an absolute professional, should be great for the locker room.
Perfect low pressure spot for a low maintenance player. Spurs need adults and they added 2 good ones
I thought Barnes had flashes of brilliance, but gd it sucked to get 0/0/0 Barnes when it mattered. Meanwhile, he'd open every season with like 30pts in game 1. I think he can be a good consistent presence on a young team, still a threat from 3 too.
Plays every single game and hits 38% on 4.5 per night... Definitely has a lot of value if they want to win.
Oddly enough, I’ve always liked Barnes’ game. Seemingly a good dude at that too.
Turning Barnes, Duarte and two seconds into DeMar is really good.
And one unprotected pick swap
Well we winning chip a year before that so it will be the 30th
Spurs just getting Barnes? Aren't getting anything else? Interesting EDIT: [The Kings will also send the Spurs a 2032 unprotected pick swap, sources tell ESPN.](https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1809775079846228207) EDIT 2: [2031, not 2032](https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1809776848814895151)
Hold up I'm pretty sure we're getting Sabonis, Keegan and a signed Boogie jersey
As long as Boogie is back in the league, I'm aight with it.
lmao DeRozan is out there trying to help the Spurs get assets
Bulls didn’t want to take back salary so they needed a team with cap space who could absorb his contract in a trade. Harrison Barnes and an unprotected pick swap is a pretty sweet deal for just doing some paperwork lol
Barnes isn’t a bad player.
and an unprotected swap in 2032
Let's fucking goooooo
West is so freakin stacked
And the Grizzlies should get basically their entire team back from injury, the play-in spots will be even more of a bloodbath than last season.
fucking brutal out here man
I’m happy for the kings. They are so fucking lovable with their squad as constructed.
Surprised they got rid of Barnes and not Huerter Lets see what they do to grab one more forward Duarte will be our tank commander. Good to get two seconds.
Yea we obviously could have gotten way more if we traded him during the season, but we’re pretty light on seconds going forward so I’ll take whatever value we can get
Im hoping we saving huerter to trade for kuzma
Also surprised it was Barnes. Kings still have an issue with forward depth and too many guards unless Huerter can play backup 3. I think there's a chance he might be able to, he's roughly big enough. But more likely I think they will try to trade him for a PF, even a bench piece at this point
Let’s go
That’s a great deal for Sacramento
Their offense should be amazing with a half court bucket getter added to the transition game they already have
Our Offense on paper looks amazing, not looking forward to seeing how our defense is going to look like though.
The less defense you play, the more energy you’ll have for offense
Great pickup for Sacramento. Demar is becoming underrated.
Two of the best 4th quarter and midrange shooters in the league. Should be interesting to see what the offense looks like moving forward. I'm excited!
Monk has been pretty clutch for us too tbh.
you will love Barnes, Spurs fans
That’s a fucking steal for Sacramento It gives the Kings another iso scorer besides Fox and pretty much another clutch guy Also DeMar is going to help Fox/Monk/Keon/Carter/Murray , literally all their young guys
Having Fox, Derozan, and Sabonis in your starting 5 is just insane
Plus Monk and Murray
KINGS
DEMAR YOU’RE OFFICIALLY A KING HARRISON YOU’RE A SPUR!
CASH, YOU’RE A BULL!!
My favorite kings player. 😢 Sad to see him go
Okay sure, I'll take that Going from "dogshit" to "mediocre" is gonna hit real good
You guys have two more years Max of being mediocre before Wemby starts taking over the league so you're good lol.
Love this for the spurs. Barnes is a consummate professional, he’ll be a great influence on wemby on and off the court.
As the warriors sacrificed Harrison Barnes for a dynasty run so shall we
Bulls are finally going into tank mode
LETS FUCKING GO!!!!!!!!!! I’ll miss Harrison, but I’m stoked beyond belief to welcome DeMar!
Dude you guys got the best deal off the offseason so far
I’m so happy right now I don’t even care about it being 110° outside
thanks HB, love you man
Can we please send some players to the east? West is getting way too crowded.
Barnes is someone I hadnt thought of for the Spurs. Should be great in terms of spacing for Wemby
Happy with this move, honesty I didn’t even know you could do a pick swap 8 years out. Also big respect to the Black Falcon. He got traded from the Mavs mid game but was never anything but professional and a class act. Great guy for Wemby to be around and I bet Pop loves him.
Get ready to see a midrange god in the regular season Sacramento
Most clutch duo in the league between Fox and DeRozan
No quite back home but probably as close as he'll get.
Seriously?
Seems like a steal for the Kings, and San Antonio land a solid vet presence for their young team. My gut says Chicago should have got more back, but maybe I’m overvaluing Derozan?
Sign-and-trades never net a great return
Especially this late in the game, when the numbers of remaining potential trade partners has dwindled.
IMO
Congrats kings even though he joined the west but im glad it wasn't us
i know it wouldn't have been feasible, but it would've been a blast to see kawhi, pg13, russie, harden and demar all on the clippers. like, team native socal.
Getting a player like DeRoz is so huge for us. I don't think a lot of the kids here understand thst there is more to creating spacing than just shooting 3s.
Wow! Good for DeMar and the Kings. Interested to see what happens with Lavine now.
#WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON
