My local ShopRite is outstanding, recently redone, huge. I go there, ACME, or Whole Foods depending on what I am getting. ShopRite is great except for it’s always as crowded as it can possibly be regardless of time of day. edit:it’s the Brookdale ShopRite in Bloomfield.

IThinkUrAWampa

Brookdale Shop Rite is great, parking lot is a nightmare

voteblue18

You need to park on the side. I don’t even bother looking for a spot in the front its too annoying. Go in the other driveway on Broad.

rml24601

100%. This is the way! The front is a nightmare.

mdp300

If it is at all possible to go at like 10AM on a Monday, parking is much easier.

chill_me_not

Stirling?

Jimdomitable

Long Hill represent. Stirling ShopRite is a pretty popular store for the surrounding area.

stlawrence585

That ShopRite is miles ahead of anything else in the area for cost and quality

eat_your_brains

The Bed Bath & Beyond next to the Metro Plaza Shoprite has been torn down to make way for a new 40+ story apartment building. The bottom 2 floors of that building will be a new Shoprite. I have a feeling it's going to be dope lol.

Sn_Orpheus

Once this store was remodeled, it became my go to. Before that, I felt like I was traveling back to the 1970’s when I went in there and avoided it when at all possible.

jacoblb6173

That ShopRite now is on par with most Wegmans. I remember it when i was a kid and it was your typical bright white light ShopRite.

alliegal

I have to laugh at this because my ShopRite (Lincoln Park) is like an industrial warehouse inside. There's no real ceiling, the venting is exposed and everything is painted dark gray, it feels like you're shopping in a dungeon.

BubblesUp

Sounds like Wall. There are all three of these within five minutes of each other. Except for that the ShopRite has been purpose built.

electric_kite

That Rt 34 Shoprite is pretty decent.

section08nj

I moved from the area but Brookdale ShopRite was still my all time favorite of all the ShopRites.

tscher16

I was just about to ask if it was the brookdale one. They really spruced it up from what it previously was

soneg

Mine was recently redone as well and it's great, I can actually find things easily now and it's big enough to have variety. I stopped going to stop and shop after this.

WeCanDoThisCNJ

Depends on the ShopRite. Wakefern-owned stores? Usually pretty awesome. Independent/small licensees? Highly variable. I have two within three miles of each other—one of each type—and the quality varies widely.

CasualMonkeyBusiness

How do you find out who the owner is?

GitEmSteveDave

If you step in the vestibule and something patriotic about America/The Flag is playing, it's a Sakar Shoprite.

Rc-one9

Lol... That's very funny! I noticed walking into the ShopRite in Hamilton Marketplace, that it's ALWAYS playing, "I'm proud to be an American....". Now I know why. To answer the question, ShopRite is the most convenient for me and slightly cheaper overall. Acme is ridiculous with their prices. I don like Wegmans, but lately I've been finding that they aren't always stocked with what I need.

disapproving_cake

I lived in Middlesex county for 18 months recently and I AVOIDED the ShopRites because of this. It's really weird and uncomfortable.

dobby10

https://www.shoprite.com/sm/planning/rsid/245/meetourmembers Click on each separate owner to see the list of stores they own. I believe Saker, Insera, and Village Markets are the three largest owners.

Shark_Leader

Saker fucking sucks. They took over Perlmart stores in Ocean County, which were great. Awesome customer service, full shelves, smooth operation. Now, they're always out of stuff, literally don't give a fuck about the customers, and the employees, especially long time ones, are miserable cause it's a shitty company to work for.

kristennnnnnnnn

They do! I always wondered why the ShopRites by my moms house growing up were so much nicer and got remodeled and I see now that they’re the Village ShopRites. I live in Saker territory now and shop at Wegmans because the ShopRites near me are so old and always in such bad shape.

jarrettbrown

You are correct. Saker is the largest because he’s spread over three counties. Middlesex, Monmouth and ocean.

dobby10

Saker isn't the largest because of 3 counties, it is because they have 39 stores. Village Markets is spread over 4 states! But has 30 Stores.

jarrettbrown

I meant in the state of New Jersey, but sure!

DashfulVanilla

And Mercer. The Sakers live in my town. They keep opening stores while failing to remodel their existing ones. And whoever said that patriotic music always plays in their stores is correct.

pu1pfriction

Saker is by the far the worst after dealing with multiple other owners of Shoprites

[deleted]

Saker is in Somerset county also

A_screaming_alpaca

For wakefern if you ever ordered ShopRite delivery would take you to their portal when it gets to the point to pay

[deleted]

All ShopRites are part of Wakefern and individually owned. Some may not advertise it as much, but they are all franchises.

thegengen

Clark and spotswood are directly owned by wakefern and are both great, I like the saker ones for can can as they always have big displays but prefer Clark and spotswood otherwise, normally spotswood as it by my house

thefudd

Spotswood is always packed.

ApexVirtuoso

Franchise may give the wrong impression. They're like a Merchant's Cooperative

icantfeelmyskull

There’s some collectively owned ones called wakefern stores.

[deleted]

I worked for those assholes for 9 years, and never knew this until today. Wild.

JimmyTurnpike

Yes all of the franchises own different amounts of Wakefern.

bakingeyedoc

Technically a co-op, not a franchise.

darkwolf131

ngl I love shoprite. maybe it's because I've been going there literally my whole life. Maybe because they tend to have great sales. Idk. but I go to Costco for shelf-stable things, Trader Joe's for fun things, and Shoprite for regular everyday meal things.

DrBiotics

I throw Target in the mix if there’s some sort of deal going on but 100% agree with your approach.

sujihiki

Target grocery sucks

macaronitrap

Agreed. Those Target Circle deals area great but it’s impossible to do a complete shop there.

everydayguy20

How are you not even going to mention ALDIs? I won’t buy a staple if is not from there, and that’s from someone who was raised on purely shop rite food.

darkwolf131

I've never found Aldi to be that great of a deal. Their prices are low, sure, but their packages tend to be smaller, so when you compare unit prices between them and say, Shoprite, you aren't getting that great a deal (if you're getting one at all). It's kinda like how the dollar store actually isn't that great a deal because you're buying a smaller quantity. Granted, its been a couple years since I've been in Aldi. Now maybe it's a different story because of recent inflation. But I remember being excited to check it out, then underwhelmed by the selection and actual price comparisons.

FalseSystem6055

I moved away and do not have ShopRite around. It is what I compare all others to.

ElleMish

Came here to say the same. I miss shoprite so much :( lol

rubellak

I can can agree

Deviantdal

Take my upvote. 😂😂😂 I miss the can can sale and shoprite in general. Fresh produce/inventory. And the staff is always helpful even though they don’t want to be there lol

JimmyTurnpike

Of course Wegmans is a better shopping experience, not everyone has the luxury of living by one. They are great. Whole foods in my opinion has become a joke post Amazon.

sujihiki

Yah. Amazon ruined whole foods. Wegmans is the best grocery store ever

merpaderpderp

My local wegmans is a nightmare to shop at. It’s always SO packed inside there’s no room to move, like if you miss something and have to go back to the meat or produce, forget it. It’s impossible to make way against the flow of people. I love their products the most, but man do we desperately need another Wegs near by to take the load off

Darehead

ShopRite isn't my first choice, but I would take any ShopRite over stop and shop.

JimmyTurnpike

I more or less refuse to go to Stop and Shop.

TimSPC

I drive past a Stop and Shop to go to a Shop Rite.

JimmyTurnpike

💯

saaandi

Only out of desperation will I go to stop and shop. The prices are ridiculous compared to ShopRite. I mostly do ShopRite for majority of my shopping. For shredded cheese (we use a lot of cheese) I hit lidl and also for some basic canned goods are good too.

YukiHase

I call it both Shit & Shop and Stop & Rob interchangeably.

Phil_ODendron

I only go to Stop and Shop because nobody goes there and it's never busy. It's great for grabbing a few things when you don't want to fuss with parking or dealing with people.

moudine

Yep, like if I forgot something on a Sunday afternoon. Torture at Shoprite to go on the weekends, but it's five minutes said-and-done at S&S because no one ever goes.

dsutari

Aldi for 90% of groceries, Shoprite for name brands. Also, the smell of a Shoprite brings me back to childhood.

beforethewind

What IS it? Is it the bakery?

dankblonde

The bagels in the bakery. That’s the smell for me at least. As a kid my dad would take me to shoprite to do the grocery shopping and he’d always buy me a plain bagel on arrival so I could eat the bagel as we shopped lol

kittykatkk

Ok I’m from out of state but I’m pretty sure the best bagel I’ve had since moving here is from shop rite lol I’m confused…I thought I was crazy but do they make them fresh or something?

dankblonde

Of course the bagels in the ShopRite bakery are made fresh. If they weren’t, it would be blasphemy!

Zhuul

I shop at ShopRite and TJ's because Fuck ACME, and ***FUCK*** Whole Foods. ACME is owned by Albertson's which is an absolutely awful company who's been busted price gouging multiple times. I wasted a decade of my life working for Whole Foods and the leadership of that company is the worst kind of Ayn Rand disciple double-talking group of corporate slimeballs you've ever met. I think at some point John Mackey was confronted about cutting health insurance benefits and he said with a straight face "The best health insurance is not getting sick." I've watched so many people I care about get used, abused, and spat out by that fucking shitbag company. Went from selling cheese and coffee to working in big law and my stress went DOWN.

Telnet_to_the_Mind

Wegmans have a nice warm, mellow feel. Lots of browns, earth tones, wood... ShopRite is more warehouse like

McLamb0

Agreed but you’re paying for it though. Wegmans is definitely more expensive than shoprite

flames_of_chaos

Not really. Some items are more expensive at ShopRite than wegmans. Some are almost at parity

storm2k

no, they're not. not by a long shot. if i go to shoprite most everything is more expensive all across the store. the place where wegmans cleans up is the prepared foods, but that's always been their thing. as far as produce, meat, dairy, and grocery items, they're almost always cheaper. now, a caveat. if you're someone who only buys brand name foods, then shop rite can be cheaper because they almost always have one brand name of a thing on sale and it's almost always cheaper than even their store brand. wegmans is very aggressive on how they price their store brand items so they're often a lot cheaper than a brand name while still being basically the same quality for most things.

Maximum-Excitement58

I don’t think you can generalize. There are two right near me: one sucks (everything about it) and one is great (everything about it.) I think they are owned by different people.

jackystack

I'm not a fan of my local SR. The staff goes out of their way, the store is clean, the produce is never rotten and their selection is pretty darn good - as is their bakery. I'm not a fan because the parking lot is a mess, I can rarely get in and out quickly, the isles are cramped and everyone seems completely oblivious to others around them.

ravenlights

The cramped aisles are the biggest reason I hate ShopRite. Not the individual aisles really, but the rest of the store. They have SO MANY pallets on the floor and things are positioned in such a way that usually only one person can go by a time. So if someone stops with their cart, they're blocking everything up. I've noticed this in multiple ShopRites. They have a good selection, though, and they are very clean.

the_eternal_veggie

It’s like a rule when building Shop Rites and Wawas: MUST HAVE BAD PARKING LOTS.

Mercurydriver

I agree with the whole egress thing. The ShopRite by me is such a disaster as far as the parking lot layout and traffic goes. It doesn’t help that it shares a parking lot with an IHOP, a Lowes, and multiple other stores in the same plaza. So driving into or out of ShopRite can be a mess. I remember for the longest time that they actually had a traffic cop directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic because it was starting to get crazy. Now I only go to ShopRite in the evening when there’s less traffic. As for inside…I’ll say it’s not necessarily a ShopRite exclusive issue and more-so that generally speaking, most people lack self/spacial awareness and tend to get in the way and bump into other people without realizing where exactly they are and how much space they take up in an area. We’re basically living amongst thousands of NPC’s that are aimless.

SquirrelEnthusiast

Shop Rite and Wawa are my two least favorite places to navigate a vehicle through, and that is including Rt. 22 and 17.

cd2220

My friends always make fun of me for parking in the kind of far away spots at Wawa or at the side spots at ShopRite but I'm just so conditioned to avoid all the fucking parking rigamarole that I automatically do it. The extra 10 steps I have to take to get there are worth it.

Rc-one9

This wouldn't be the ShopRite in Clark would it? Because that sounds like the ShopRite in Clark!

McLamb0

Wegmans and especially Whole Foods cost way more. I go to ShopRite because it’s a better value

leksoid

yes, we go to whole foods just for couple selected products, and thats it. I don't see any reason to overpay for other stuff, that is available in other stores its ridiculous

cracker707

I still go to Whole Foods all the time for bananas, milk and meats, but now organic foods have become so commonplace that I can hop over to Giant or Acme for the stuff that’s ridiculously overpriced at WF like 100% juice bottles. WF wants like $8 for Ocean Spray juices, but they have the best organic bananas and the cheapest. Acme’s organic fruits are more expensive than WF organic fruits but Acme will always have fresh thyme in stock and better garlic. For some reason WF organic garlic sucks, always old. I’m lucky to have multiple options in my area.

McLamb0

Hate to break it to you, but organic is pretty much a scam. It’s really no healthier than regular produce as long as you wash correctly. And you should still wash organic anyway

Tarpit_Carnivore

Wegmans does not cost more, I don’t know why this keeps getting said. We did a cost comparison between Wegmans and the ShopRite by us and Wegmans was cheaper for the same exact items we were buying. If you’re going there to buy the prepared foods, it’s def way way overpriced.

McLamb0

Steak, chicken, fruit and vegetables are not cheaper. One guy pointed to a can of beans, maybe thats the case but I never buy that so wouldn’t know. I’m sticking to shoprite

Tarpit_Carnivore

I don’t buy steak, chicken is a wash, and fruit and vegetables can depend on which and if they’re organic or not. Even eggs were cheaper at Wegmans. They’re at best a push but it’s not some wildly expensive thing like you’re shopping at Whole Foods in 2010

partspuke

Wegmans pasta - 99¢ a pound Bowl & Basket - $1.25 Chicken cheaper at Wegmans if you get the family pack Milk a dollar a gallon cheaper ShopRite has some items I have to go there for, so once a month I’ll go.

sujihiki

Shoprite meat is garbage and their selection sucks

obmulap113

I don’t live in NJ anymore but you don’t know how good you have it. My main grocery option is Giant (basically stop and shop) and it’s both shittier and more expensive

StarDatAssinum

Same, but with Kroger for me. ShopRite is great compared to it

Wishilikedhugs

I moved just outside Baltimore last year so I really feel this. Giant and Food Lion do nothing for me. There's a Wegmans in Columbia but the parking lot gives me a spike in anxiety. I'd take a ShopRite and an Acme any day of the week.

babubaichung

ShopRite is dope, stop and shop is a little more expensive? I personally prefer Lidl. But there are a whole lot of things I can get at ShopRite that I don’t find in Lidl.

randygiles

Yeah Lidl blows ShopRite out of the water on prices but I still have to to SR every now and then as Lidl has limited selection unfortunately

thepatientwaiting

Co-sign! I'm lucky to live close to Lidl, SR, and WF. Lidl has amazing quality produce and it's always cheaper than anything else. I like their meats and fish. I just hate that they take products away. They had frozen herbs for 2 years and then replaced them with another brand, which has nice stuff but not the same assortment.

GivinUpTheFight

The options in my area are: Weis: we're gonna rip you off. Stop & Shop: we're gonna rip you off so hard it's easier to use a gun if you're gonna rob people to the extent we do, and we'll tell you to go fuck yourself. Shop Rite: we're a grocery store. So yeah. Compared to the alternatives, I like shop Rite just fine.

ApplicationNo2506

ShopRite ground turkey 93% lean is far superior to all other ground turkey. Probably lying about fat content but idc

Johncamp28

Depends on the ShopRite Just remember Saker ShopRite has a hell of a profit margin. Vendors are only allowed to bring things in under a sale price. So those pretzels you are taking off the shelf 3 months after superbowl more than likely came in during the Super Bowl sale and sat in the back room.

Jurodan

My options are, in order of proximity: Apna Bazaar, ShopRite, Aldi's, Target, Stop And Shop, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Lidl, Whole Foods, and Wegmans. Of the above, I actually shop at Aldi's, ShopRite, Trader Joe's, and a few higher end items at Wegmans (I love their French butter). Yes, ShopRite is convenient (I live close to three, one of which is open 24/7), but they have a decent selection at a decent price.

IThinkUrAWampa

I never thought a supermarket could be beautiful until I went to the Shop Rite in Sparta.

TimSPC

I fucking love Shop Rite. Here are my Shop Rite rankings: 1. Manahawkin 2. Wayne 3. Oakland 4. Wallington 5. Rochelle Park 6. Lodi 7. Hillsdale 8. Jersey City 9. Fair Lawn

twoferrets

I have a theory that most ShopRites are built over cursed burial grounds. There’s no other explanation.

icantfeelmyskull

Can confirm. Work on a bunch of their plumbing

Dead_Is_Better

Our Shop-Rite is built over the woods where we used to hang out and party as teenagers so every time I go food shopping I'm also taking a trip down memory lane. I often wonder what the people who work and shop there would think if they knew of all the drunken and drugged stupidity that occurred there all those years ago.

nonzeroanswer

ShopRite is bottom tier for me.

StarDatAssinum

Moved to Nashville and compared to Kroger, ShopRite is absolutely my preferred go-to store when I'm in NJ. We have Krogers here and they're ass

redhats14

I kind of hate any type of Shoprite nowadays and there’s a semi-newly built (10 years) one I go to occasionally and I still don’t like it. The quality for produce is never there. Prices are high for no reason. Bakery sucks. Wegmans is so much higher quality and better for a similar price. The only reason you’ll see me at Shoprite over Wegmans is Shoprite is close but at that point I’d rather go to Lidl if I could because the quality is nearly the same.

SmackaHam

I go to shop rite because in Paterson and Passaic you only pay 3.5% sales tax and the Passaic one is the closest store to my house

Njsybarite

Greater Morristown shop rite is the tits

breakplans

I love my shoprite. There are a few in the area I can go to but I drive a few extra minutes to get to the one in Byram. Now that I’ve outed where I live, you might know we don’t have Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s or anything too close by…so shoprite is the best option but I do actually prefer it. Whole Foods has great selection but tiny aisles. It feels maybe a little more comfortable because of the brown wood tones and green color scheme, but other than the wider organic and specialty selection (although shoprite is closing that gap every week it seems with new products), they’ve got nothing on shoprite, not to mention they’re now owned by Amazon and shoprites are locally owned.

cttime

Uhh... ShopRite is the largest grocery chain in new jersey, maybe you can be more specific with which one since they are virtually all different.

rocketmercy

ShopRite reigns supreme imo. Especially the little falls ShopRite, I find anything and everything I need. Whole foods is too expensive. Stop&shop sucks ass and never carries anything good. Acme is meh, Aldi is meh, trader Joe's is meh.

coradasmi

Love the little falls ShopRite! I’m in south jersey now but that one was great.

adobo_santos

I prefer ShopRite but that's because I grew up going there but which ShopRite location definitely plays a part in which one I'll shop

Toomuchtime423

Shoprite has great deals from time to time. I won't step into Whole Foods, its a rip off

pleuvonics

Well Ronetco ShopRites are hell bent on being the most unpleasant horribly laid out place in town. Village Food Garden ShopRites? Exquisite. Stunning. But most people have no where else to go. We have an abandoned grocery store in our town we’re praying they’ll put an Aldi or Lidl in.

sideburns

Superfresh by me is pretty good. If they don’t got what I need, which was only once or twice in years, I go to ShopRite which is further away. I can’t stand being inside a Whole Foods or Walmart. A weird anxiety kicks in.

munchingzia

acme or wegmans >

[deleted]

I'm love shop rite. Especially Zallies owned ones. They are the best. Prices are way better than overpriced acme , and I'm not dealing with Whole Foods people.

[deleted]

ShopRite of Rochelle Park is my favorite grocery store of all time. The parking lot sucks, but the store is great. So yes, to answer your question.

visualcharm

I like ShopRites because they are reliable, reasonable, and have variety, without the chaos and selection compromise of similarly priced grocers. I think the off putting characteristic comes from how outdated the interior design and decor seems. Even renovated, everything is so beige. But their products attest to keeping up with the times, so I'd rather that than otherwise.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OceanEyes76

ShopRite owns Dearborn Farms now. This is probably just a rumor but I head ShopRite bought it so Wegmans couldn’t build there.

healthybdysicmnd

Every Saker ShopRite that has been redone are all great stores.

brend2b

My Saker ShopRite in Hamilton is great. Only qualm is whatever idiot approved the extremely bumpy tile in the first quarter of the store you walked through. It's just insane cart noise until you get out of there. I've been to other Saker ones and they all seem to have that stupid loud tile

PoopMuffin

Shoprite is the cheapest "normal" grocery store in my area, cheaper than Acme, and Wegmans/Whole Foods are super expensive. Trader Joe and Aldi are cheaper but they don't always have everything as a true supermarket.

TheRacoonist

My local shoprite just did a huge renovation. It's pretty great

Vicktrolia

Shoprite is just chaotic enough to make me feel at home so it’s perfect. Acme makes me fell uneasy, I do not have Wegmans, Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods near me. I don’t go to Aldi because they never have what I’m looking for.

jessicaismj

Gonna get buried and down voted here. However, I absolutely have to say my truth. I can't stand Shoprite. Everything about them makes me mad. The 2 closest grocery stores in either direction are shoprites. That gets me boiling, before even leaving the house. The store it's self lacks serious variety. Asian cuisine? Nope. Mexican cuisine, not that either. Organics?, nope again. Any ingredient not mainstream, it's just not there. It's not worth the time to shop there and then have to go somewhere else to get the rest of what you need. The 1980s vibe and mentality is 30 years to old. The only really upside to shoprites are their dedication to Italian food based ingredients, which alone is amazing.

howd_he_get_here

This is an opinionated discussion; you're simply contributing. I definitely agree on their ethnic item selection. It's pretty paltry compared to Wegmans (my personal go-to). And God forbid you need a perishable Asian ingredient like kimchi or frozen Chinese noodles... good luck The design / vibe thing seems to vary by location these days. A lot of Shop Rites have been modernly renovated. The one by me recently got that treatment and I honestly couldn't believe I was still standing in a Shop Rite.

storm2k

that's interesting. very much will depend on where you are and which member of the co-op owns your stores. i've found that the saker stores in somerset county actually have way better latin american ethnic selections than a lot of other places, including things you can usually only get at a dedicated latin supermarket.

dumbass_0

I absolutely hate ShopRites aesthetic and always have, way too chaotic for me. Stop & shop all day vibes are better

throwawayA511

I prefer the nearby stop and shop to the shoprite. I don’t know why but I can just never find anything at shoprite. They have some strange organization. But the shoprite stays open an hour later than stop and shop so I’ll go there if I have to go in the late evening. There’s also a local grocery store that I’ll try to go to to support local business but it’s not as conveniently located. I like that there’s some speciality items that they’ll stock that the big chains don’t.

emilouwho687

Depends on the location. I drive a few extra miles to go to the bigger nicer one. The one in town is small and old and only good for last minute trips.

Winter_Lawfulness967

This sounds like Freehold!

truvey

I moved to Savannah and one of the things that I miss most is Shop-Rite

GoZahnGo

Some of their prices can be better than other grocery stores. Not as good as they used to be where you could stack manufacturer coupons and store coupons, but still pretty decent. Used to work for them 5 years back. Other than treating employees like they should have no life outside the store, wasn't the worst. Not the greatest either, but made grocery shopping a little easier since I could grab as I worked, lol. Also, met Mr. Wakefern (The son i think?) and he's uh... quite the asshole. EDIT: It wasn't Wakefern after all, it was SAKER. Mixed them up, sorry yall!

[deleted]

I just do everything as a ShopRite from home order. Prices are better than other places and they’re 10 minutes away. The Weiss across the street is significantly more expensive and the parking lot is nonsensical.

Senior-Sharpie

The thing that I don’t like about SR (Clark store) is that when you go there for sale items the shelves are always bare. They either ran out, never got it, or they moved it. Frustrating.

Linenoise77

Not all Shop Rites are equal, even ones under the same ownership. They cater the stores to the location.

Realistic_Reality_44

I absolutely love Shoprite

Aden1970

With state of the job market and the profits they’re taking in, I’m not loyal to any chain. I’ll go to different shops depending on the price of certain items. Wegmans for spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, Sam’s for a few bulk items, Walmart for cheese and school lunch items, and so forth.

F26N55

Have you seen the one in Long Hill? My grandparents live in Millington and anytime I visit that one it’s like walking into a fortress.

mikebe1

I split my shopping in between Shoprite, Wegmans, and Trader Joes - they all have their advantages.

tim_dude

It kind of depends on what you have around you. I have a Shoprite and a Stop and Shop almost side by side and I prefer the Shoprite, but when I go to get my haircut in Manalapan, I like to stop by their Wegmans.

ruthie-camden

Shop Rite in Mansfield is my all-time favorite supermarket. Their produce section is out of this world.

AKA_Valerie

I go to ShopRite because that's where my family has always gone, and it isn't much further than the other stores. One thing I absolutely HATE about ShopRite is the constant PA announcements and shitty jingles. I understand the point of them, but it's like nails on a chalkboard, and I feel terrible for the employees who have to suffer through them every day, on top of the occasional shithead customers.

QUEENSNYLAWYER

ShopRites the best. There are other items that I shop around locally for particularly produce and sometimes bread and milk otherwise ShopRite. It's worth traveling to. It's appreciably better than all the local markets that I've checked. Also I like their app were you can sort your groceries by aisle.

Routine-Unit-3086

They have deals, and food, that other stores don't have

rockmasterflex

My (Saker) Shoprite is ridiculously large and the aisles are literally the entire length of a sears store long (no midpoint gaps). Also the new decor is obnoxious. The place sucks. Its impossible to find what you want quickly if you are a casual shopper. Costco moves shit around ON PURPOSE constantly and it is easier to shop there. I would love to never step into a Shop Rite again but Target is obviously not trying in the produce section at all and for certain products I can't get a usable amount before expiry at Costco. But good lord do I minimize what I need from ShopRite because fuuuuck spending time in there. Also costco has better meat =)

djinner_13

No fans of super fresh on here? The one in linden is huge and has a large international section. Also it's always fully stocked with fresh produce and a good seafood selection. I usually get meat elsewhere though.

electric_kite

I like Shoprite but the prices are EXPENSIVE. My weekly shopping for a week for 2 is ~$80-$100 shopping at Aldi. Sometimes I mix it up and go to Lidl and include Trader Joe’s just to spice it up, but even still, we’re never over $100. For shits and gigs we tried to do our same shopping trip at Shoprite and spent $150. It was nuts. Stop and Shop is worse tho.

Groady_Wang

I always liked Pathmark more. But I'm sandwiched between 2 shoprites and a couple stop and shops now. So I just go to what's convenient

showstoppergal

I only go there if I'm in a hurry and have a small window of time. Otherwise I'm going to wegmans

Liveslowdieslower

I have to pass Shoprite to hit the other stores I usually shop at (Wegmans, Trader Joe's). Every Shoprite I've been to continuously lets me down with their high prices and terrible produce. Plus, most of the stores haven't been updated in 20+ years. Their liquor stores, however, are pretty decent usually.

[deleted]

The larger ShopRite’s have everything I need although I like the fruits and veggies better at Whole Foods. Also depends on where you live. I have to drive a distance to get anything other than ShopRite or Weis. I also think the items I purchase at SR are more cost effective compared to anywhere else.

BennyBlanco96

If you move out of state you’ll miss ShopRite tbh. Grew up in NY and moved to NJ the Mass and Mass had no ShopRites. At least they had Stop & Shop but honestly growing up I barely when there n now I barely go still but it’s a good supermarket and if you left to a state without ShopRite you’ll realize how much better ShopRite is compared to what the rest of the country got

EloquentBacon

One of my favorite grocery stores is the Shrewsbury Shop Rite. Its a large, bright, clean and well laid out. I do half of my shopping at Trader Joe’s and the other at this Shop Rite. My least favorite grocery store is the West Long Branch Shop Rite on Rt 36. It’s small, dark, smells weird/bad and always has long lines.

rewardiflost

I've had Pathmark, Foodtown and A&P stores around - but they're gone. The nearby Acme stores have closed. I have ShopRite or Stop & Shop to choose from nearby and ShopRite has generally less clutter, more inventory, and better prices. I'll hit Aldi occasionally, but they rarely have what I need to complete my shopping list, and the place feels like a dollar store.

coreynj2461

Shoutout to the paramus shoprite greeter. Love her!

immaphantomLOL

You ever been to Woodbridge ShopRite? Nothing convenient about it. Have you ever been to another grocery store? Yeah. That’s why we go to ShopRite.

Pcakes844

Everyday is like fury road in the parking lot.

Jake_FromStateFarm27

Shoprite is great, however I will say their new updated "flagship" stores are an absolute disaster. The layouts of the new stores make absolutely no sense, they are always out of stock of essential items, and they are super congested because of their layout to accommodate self checkout. The OG shoprites like Nutley and Rochelle Park are some of the best around. Service is always good even on the busiest days/holidays and shelves are always stocked unlike the new stores. I love Wegmans out of all the other boutique grocery stores and wish there were more of them because they blow whole foods and stews out of the water in terms of quality and price.

Filthycute87

I love my local Shop-Rite. They redid it and my cousin works there so I usually have a pleasant experience. Also, I find their Bowl and Basket brand is pretty good.

IlsaFM4

For me, a lot of ShopRite locations are aesthetically unappealing, the only reason I shop there is their frozen entrees are cheaper than Stop and Shop. That, and they have decent corn muffins. For produce and meat, I find Trader Joe’s is reasonably priced. Wegmans actually has good prices, provided you’re not getting anything from the bakery, meat and seafood, or produce department.

[deleted]

I prefer because I grew up with only ShopRite and maybe a little Pathmart because of my grandmother. ShopRite feels comfortable for me but I can definitely understand the brand and aesthetics part over other stores.

bubonis

Near me are two ShopRites, Walmart, Acme, and Stop-n-Shop. The ShopRite closest to me is pretty awesome and I have few complaints. The other ShopRite isn’t quite as nice. Walmart is okay for a few specific things, mainly their bakery and prepared foods. Everything else there is very limited in selection and they don’t have my favorite brands/products. Acme and Shop-n-Shop are just sad. Every time I go into them it feels like all the lights are on dimmers that are perpetually stuck at 60% brightness.

Sinsid

Shoprite is my favorite general purpose grocery store. Wegmans is good too. Whole Foods doesn’t count imo. It’s like saying Wawa is your favorite grocery store for milk. Ok, but they don’t sell a huge number of things you normally buy at a grocery store.

Chelseafc5505

ShopRite Kearny is pretty solid. Do my big grocery shops there. Can get crazy busy if you go at the wrong times If I need a specific protein, or other specific ingredient for something I'm going to cook night of, I probably go to whole foods. Also get coffee beans from whole foods, because ShopRite selection is not great. If I need something basic immediately, I'll do ShopRite Newark, which is not a good ShopRite at all, but fairly close

misterxboxnj

We've got two grocery stores near us, stop N shop and shop rite. Shop Rite is cheaper and had better produce. We also do some shopping at Costco for bulk items and trader Joe's for certain small things.

SnooStories4024

I love my shop rite of Edison on Rte 1. It’s small by most of today’s SUPERmarket standards but it has a local small town vibe that I like. It also has the best overall prices than the other supermarkets with the exception of Aldi/ Lidle but it has brands I’m familiar with so most of my shopping is there.

[deleted]

I love ShopRite. I always feel so calm when I'm shopping there

voteblue18

The 2 main stores I go to are the Brookdale ShopRite and the Stop and Shop in Clifton. ShopRite has consistently better prices and quality especially when it comes to meats and produce. The one thing I don’t like is their deli for cold cuts they don’t stock Boar’s Head for some unknown reason. But I don’t eat a lot of cold cuts anyway.

pierogi_daddy

it is by far the best value while still packing good products and not looking like walmart. Store brands are usually pretty solid too. Probably the main reason I like Shoprite is they are better than your average chain grocery store about having decent options in their ethnic aisles. not gonna beat a specialty grocery for that but many are good and they do a good job of catering to the local ethnic groups. When I was in Passaic there was a ton of peruvian and mexican items, stuff like that.

p0ttedplantz

I prefer shoprite over stop n shop. Shoprite does have narrower aisles though

irelace

Yes. It's the superior grocery chain...

Hustler_One

We prefer ShopRite over any of the other grocery chains in the area by far. We did get a good amount from Lidl for a while but ended up back at ShopRite for everything Lidl didn't carry anyway. People need to remember that ShopRites are a coop so your experience at once can be vastly different than another. I personally find the ones directly owned and operated by Wakefern to be better.

section08nj

ShopRite sales are the easiest to navigate. But I agree some are great, some suck. Greenstein-owned ShopRites are great (Brookdale/Bloomfield, Newark). Village Supermarket ShopRites may look pretty but are badly run (Garwood, East Orange, etc too many to count). The Tullys ran a good ShopRite + liquor store in Kearny but they sold it a week ago, so no clue what's going to happen with that one.

forever-anonymous

Shop rite

Triconick

There meat goes bad so fast. I will pick up other stuff, but never meat from there, unless I am going to cook it right after I buy it.

L1saDank

Like literally sometimes they have $2.88 Ben and Jerries sales so yep I’m down.

dankblonde

Shop rite is my favorite grocery store behind Kroger and we don’t have those here lol.

STFUNeckbeard

Whole Foods doesn’t sell 90% of the same things shop rite does lol. And the things it does sell are more expensive. Yeah some may be higher quality but not all. I do prefer wegmans over shop rite, but wegmans sales are essentially non existent where as shop rite you can save huge with a little planning. Uncle Giuseppe’s is the GOAT though

Stinkeye63

I got to ShopRite since it's the closest. The Acme stores always smell like grease from the fried chicken and their dairy products are sometimes expired but still in the case.

Yetipopsicle

Morristown ShopRite is the bomb. Love that place. I agree though, Wegmans across the board is nicer

EricaSloane

I prefer ShopRite for most things, I know the store and can navigate in and out pretty quickly. Though I will go to stop n shop or the a local market for boars head deli in addition. I wish Wegman’s was more accessible, but sadly ocean county is just left out.

peter-doubt

Sit tight. The Shop Rite at Blue Star (rt 22) is being rebuilt

MorganRose99

I just know it tends to be a little more pricey than other places, but the one near me is quite nice, no outstandingly bad experiences

thisismyreddit90

My Shop Rite rules. Cedar Knolls is an experience

Big-Maintenance2971

We moved out of NJ and we only have one ShopRite in the area. It always makes us feel like we are home again. Giant is ok. Weis is ok. Wegmans is nice. But Shop rite has always been there for us Jersey people living in a different state with terrible grocery stores every mile you drive.

dand06

ShopRite is my go to for quick pickings. Otherwise all shopping is done at Lidl. Love Lidl.

SailingSpark

Here in Atlantic County, I prefer Acme. The three local Shoprights are dreadful places. The one in EHT is more like a very crowded warehouse than a grocery store. At least they stopped making the entrance into a maze.

HumbleSerpent

I miss shoprite

kissenakid

i prefer it over all the other NJ grocery stores. I lived in PA for a year, i went to super Giants often. i thought it was pretty similar to shoprite. I lived in DE for a year as well, went to shoprites there. You will never catch me in a costco, walmart, acme, aldis, stop and shop, or whole foods. They might as well change their names to ShopWrong
