Peter Jennings yelled out at a fund raiser, right to Henry Kissinger's face:
* How does it feel to be a war criminal, Henry?
Jennings from the rafters! He will always have my respect for that shit.
The only other ABC great was Jim McKay on ABC Sports.
ABC was always the putz network of the big 3.
Ted Koppel was actually great, but he was a sacrificial lamb against Carson.
"As someone that's spent the last 11 years getting his brains beat in the ratings I'm not gonna miss you a bit." - Koppel to Carson on 'The Tonight Show'
Peter Jennings was like my second father. 6:30 every night. I hated when he was on vacation and Sam Donaldson or Carole Simpson filled in. Just not the same.
I had an odd obsession with Dan Rather when I was very young. He was my first idol. I used to pretend I was him. I dressed up as Dan Rather for Halloween when I was 5. Mom took a picture and sent it to him at CBS, and he mailed back a signed thank you card. That thing stayed up on my wall for years.
yes we were a Brokaw house and in my head he was the voice of authority but I thought Dan was just the bee’s knees. loved his election coverage, his sign offs, the self serious tone. lots of gold in there.
Walter Cronkite was probably what my grandparents would have tuned in to see. Didn’t spend much time with them growing up. My parents watched Peter Jennings and he was always one of my favorites.
Peter Jennings took the “I see OJ” call live on the air and the idiots interrupted the NBA finals to broadcast that bullshit. It was the funniest thing I’d ever seen. Al Michaels had to butt in and tell Jennings it was a prank.
Not grandparents, but parents, even for me… and it was Walter Cronkite. I liked Dan Rather on 60 minutes, but felt he was a weak host of CBS Evening News. I switched to watching Peter Jennings.
Firstly, apparently we all had the same experience of going to your grandparents after school until one of your parents was off of work.
Second, I remember all three. They never settled on one
Believe it or not, the network newscasts don’t air at the same time in every city, and they don’t always compete directly with each other.
In Seattle, they air as follows (all times PT):
- ABC 5:30pm
- NBC 6:00pm
- CBS 6:30pm
Whenever a network newscast is on one channel, they’re competing with local news on the other two plus on Fox 13. PBS Newshour is at 6:00 there.
I never saw my maternal grandfather, the staunchest of Democrats, watch any news other than the PBS News Hour with Jim Lehrer.
My paternal grandparents always watched the ABC local news, so they probably would have seen Jennings afterwards. And I remember him most in my own home.
Dan Rather and Peter Jennings. My grandparents flipped between to have a “well rounded view”. 🤣
I met Dan Rather when he came to a museum I was volunteering at as a teen. He was really nice and took a picture with me.
The evening news will always be Peter Jennings for me. That's who I grew up watching. The smell of my mom and grandmas cooking goes hand in hand with hearing the theme song and his voice
Grandparents?!
We were a Peter Jennings household. ABC all the way. TGIF on Friday nights, and then 20/20 afterward. "I'm Hugh Downs. And I'm Barbara Walters. And this ... is 20/20."
Dan Rather and it wasn't even a question. Then came wheel of fortune along with my Grandmothers nightly scoop of Whitehouse Cherry ice cream. RIP Grandma.
Peter Jennings was on all the time at my house. To me he always told the news straight(I was young) I’m not sure if that’s true or not but I believed him as a kid
We watched the local NBC news at 6 and Tom Brokaw at 6:30 every night. Mom would then watch Entertainment Tonight at 7. 30 years later I can still hear the intro music for that damn show in my head.
Grandparents? How about my parent’s house, and it was always Jennings
Pfft! They were on at MY house!
Peter Jennings was the one on every weeknight.
Peter Jennings was THE newsman.
Peter Jennings yelled out at a fund raiser, right to Henry Kissinger's face: * How does it feel to be a war criminal, Henry? Jennings from the rafters! He will always have my respect for that shit.
The man had some serious guts. I still miss him.
True story, gf in high school named my penis Peter Jennings.
Peter Jennings was always the anchor in our household
Mostly a mix of Brokaw & Jennings, I think I remember Tom Brokaw being on the TV a bit more than Peter Jennings though
My mom had the biggest crush on him.
Walter Cronkite, now get off my lawn.
Don’t forget Chet Huntley and David Brinkley!
Obligatory “oh I forgot” for those in the know 😉
[Chet Huntley and David Brinkley](https://youtu.be/vYDdGH6IMUE?si=I1FILIPB4q8QyA9S)
Yeah, I was gonna say I remember Cronkite giving way to Rather eventually
IMHO, Peter Jennings was probably one of the greats at ABC.
Donaldson has fierce eyebrows
And toupe. I loved me some Sam Donaldson.
"We don't have the close yet! I haven't written the close yet, mothers!"
Jennings or Brokaw. We were loyal to Brokaw because of his California roots. But Peter was just so captivating, especially during 9/11.
That’s interesting. We like Brokaw for this South Dakota roots.
He was the West Coast anchor for NBC for a long time!
Appreciate Tom for not doing the performative sleeve rolls.
Grandparents? Fuck I’m old.
Yeah, someone said their grandparents watched CNN. My grandparents didn’t have cable, and weren’t here too much longer after CNN started.
Peter Jennings was the real deal.
Word!
Tom Brokaw.
Gerald Ford shot dead today at the senseless age of 83.
"Tragedy today as former President Gerahld Fohrd was eaten by wolves. He was delicious."
“Truly, you are the greatest generation”

I had an odd obsession with Dan Rather when I was very young. He was my first idol. I used to pretend I was him. I dressed up as Dan Rather for Halloween when I was 5. Mom took a picture and sent it to him at CBS, and he mailed back a signed thank you card. That thing stayed up on my wall for years.
And *your* photo probably stayed up on his wall for years. That's so funny. Do you still have the Halloween picture? I must see this!
My sister has it in a photo album. I should find it and post it here
1982 Here - I thought Dan Rather was the POTUS for much of my childhood.
Whats the frequency, Kenneth?
yes we were a Brokaw house and in my head he was the voice of authority but I thought Dan was just the bee’s knees. loved his election coverage, his sign offs, the self serious tone. lots of gold in there.
Peter Jennings, and it was my *parents* house, thankyouverymuch.
The Canadian.
Sam Donaldson.
Welcome to another edition of prime time LIVE!!!!
Dan Rather
Do they seem to have abnormally large head to anyone else?
Rathers head looks shopped
Walter Cronkite was probably what my grandparents would have tuned in to see. Didn’t spend much time with them growing up. My parents watched Peter Jennings and he was always one of my favorites.
Tom Brokaw's "good evening" still lives in my head
https://youtu.be/cqxNdtMpqUk
Peter Jennings took the “I see OJ” call live on the air and the idiots interrupted the NBA finals to broadcast that bullshit. It was the funniest thing I’d ever seen. Al Michaels had to butt in and tell Jennings it was a prank.
All three at my parents house
I definitely can't pick just one as I remember all three as well and don't remember there being a favorite.
We were a Peter Jennings house. There was something personable about him that made it feel like he was talking to you, not at you like the other two.
The family guy gang of Tom brokaws lives rent free in my head. But honestly always preferred Jennings.
for all the canadians in the room - Harvey Kirk and Lloyd Robertson.
Harvey Kirck was retired by the time I was born, but we were a Lloyd Robertson household.
[John Chancellor](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0151253/mediaviewer/rm2221216257?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
Edward R. Murrow for mine.
Not grandparents, but parents, even for me… and it was Walter Cronkite. I liked Dan Rather on 60 minutes, but felt he was a weak host of CBS Evening News. I switched to watching Peter Jennings.
Great effing question! Gramps called him Tahm Brokejaw (and said he sounded like Sean Connery without a lisp)
Peter Jennings.
Dan was GOATED
Peter Jennkngs was the man.
Firstly, apparently we all had the same experience of going to your grandparents after school until one of your parents was off of work. Second, I remember all three. They never settled on one
Walter Cronkite
Peter Jennings
Jennings.
Walter Cronkite
Tom Brokaw all the way
That crazy Canadian Jennings. But Koppel was the man to watch if you wanted answers.
PJ!
Peter; especially if something major was going on
Peter Jennings, telling the truth with 2 fingers on the typewriter. I miss him.
Grandparents.. yikes, Peter Jennings was on growing up in my household.
Walter Cronkite
Dan rather. It amazing how much more gravitas and dignity the news had. I don’t think I ever heard any of these men speak and thought “oh bullshit”
Peter or Tom
Tom Brokaw NBC Nightly News
Pete
Peter Jennings, I think.
Tyrone Copel
"How does it feel to be a war criminal, Henry?"
For some reason I remember Ted Koppel more, but also Jennings and to a lesser extent, Brokaw.
Tom Brokaw for the win
Tom Brokaw. His voice brings me back to my grandparents (now passed) and their living room.
Peter Jennings. Then Ted Koppel on Nightline later on at 11:30.
Jennings.
Walter Cronkite!
It was Cronkite Chet Huntley, David Brinkley, Bill Beutel, Harry Reasoner for me.
Dan Rather. They would watch Gail King do the local evening news, and then it would go into Dan Rather.
Peter Jennings, my Pop hated Dan Rather, never told us why
I would like to hear what they would say with all that is happening.
Believe it or not, the network newscasts don’t air at the same time in every city, and they don’t always compete directly with each other. In Seattle, they air as follows (all times PT): - ABC 5:30pm - NBC 6:00pm - CBS 6:30pm Whenever a network newscast is on one channel, they’re competing with local news on the other two plus on Fox 13. PBS Newshour is at 6:00 there.
Dan Rather
As a teen I liked Jennings. My parents went back and forth between Jennings and Rather. Brokaw's voice pitch was just a bit too low.
Peter J
I never saw my maternal grandfather, the staunchest of Democrats, watch any news other than the PBS News Hour with Jim Lehrer. My paternal grandparents always watched the ABC local news, so they probably would have seen Jennings afterwards. And I remember him most in my own home.
They were dead before these guys came around.
My granny don watch the news. She has her social clubs and bingo nites. LOL
Pretty much always Peter Jennings, seemingly for decades.
Peter Jennings
You mean my parent's house. Tom Brokaw, still my favorite.
Always Tom Brokaw
Dan Rather and Peter Jennings. My grandparents flipped between to have a “well rounded view”. 🤣 I met Dan Rather when he came to a museum I was volunteering at as a teen. He was really nice and took a picture with me.
Nope. Walter Cronkite.
Walter Cronkite
Peter Jennings is why I got into Broadcasting
F,M,K
I didn't watch the news, but I always saw the last ~30 seconds of Peter Jennings, because when his newscast was over, it was time for Simpsons reruns
Dan Rather
Those were the days, eh? Newsmen you could trust.
Tom. Always Tom. I think my grandma was sweet on him.
Mostly Rather, but in retrospect Brokaw was the best
John Chancellor! David Brinkley and Walter Cronkite!
Dan Rather. CBS had the best reception in my part of Louisiana.
All 3
Grand parents? It was my mom. She was a fan of Tom.
On at my parents house
The evening news will always be Peter Jennings for me. That's who I grew up watching. The smell of my mom and grandmas cooking goes hand in hand with hearing the theme song and his voice
Grandparents. This sub really likes to remind me I’m old.
Gerald Ford dead today at the senseless age of 83.
My grandparents? Walter Cronkite
Walter Mercado. My Nana didn't speak English.
Peter Jennings.
Peter Jennings. Why? ABC was the channel that came in clearest in our pre cable house.
Brokaw always
Walter Cronkite
Usually grandpa was watching Bonanza or Heat of The Night. But it was Peter Jennings if any of these
Brokaw
Ted Koppel is #1
When journalism was still a respectable profession
Grandpa always watched Peter Jennings. I’d watch it with him every night before my mom would pick me up
My parent's TV... Peter Jennings.
Dan Rather. I still love his voice, delivery and accent because it reminds me of my grandpa.
Tom Brokaw
I was an adult watching Brokaw... Grandparents? lol Wait, I am a Grandpa!!! What happened here?
Jennings at our house. Brokaw at my grandma’s.
Tom
Grandparents?! We were a Peter Jennings household. ABC all the way. TGIF on Friday nights, and then 20/20 afterward. "I'm Hugh Downs. And I'm Barbara Walters. And this ... is 20/20."
Walter Cronkite
Brokaw
Cronkite
Dan Rather and it wasn't even a question. Then came wheel of fortune along with my Grandmothers nightly scoop of Whitehouse Cherry ice cream. RIP Grandma.
Peter Jennings was so hot.
Tom
Dan Rather
I remember all three at one point or another...
Dan Rather
Well now I feel old because I grew up with my parents watching Peter Jennings.
Dan Rather, usually. We preferred CBS' local news out here, and it segued into Dan nicely.
Peter Jennings all the way
Lol my PARENTS house. And it was Dan.
Tom Brokaw was my guy
Peter Jennings was on all the time at my house. To me he always told the news straight(I was young) I’m not sure if that’s true or not but I believed him as a kid

I can hear this photo.
Rather or Brokaw, and it was my parents house.
Parents were CBS fans. Cronkite then Rather.
Peter Jennings feels like home.
My father used to watch Tom Brokaw.
Tom Brokah
peter jennings
Such dignity and integrity
grandparents? Tom Brokaw was on in my parents household. walter cronkite would have been on in my grandparents household
I only remember tom brokaw because of that scene from ricky bobby. “The greatest generation my ass, tom brokaw is a punk”
Douglas Edwards CBS News was my dad and grandparents news anchor. Dad stuck with CBS through Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather.
Brokaw was the man on TV in our household
Whichever network Wheel of Fortune was on at the time..... It flipped around between NBC,CBS and ABC.
At mom's house, Tom was. That's why I'm Tommy Jr. nine months later.
Jennings was the best
All of them... parents homes too, but you left out the 60 Minutes cast...
Remember when your grandparents watched Peter Jennings instead of Fox News? I miss that. So much.
Tom Brokaw. But at home, it was Peter Jennings.
Thought they were all one person
Peter was on every night at our house. I miss those days of serious news without the lies and spin.
Why does Dan Rather’s picture look weird? Lol. Looks like his head was photoshopped onto someone else lol
And wrong scale
Brokaw until Fox News became a thing 🙄
My grandparents always seemed to watch Dan Rather mainly because they were loyal to our local CBS station.
Walter Cronkite.
Parents were fans of Jennings (Connie Chung before that), then became Fox News addicts around 2010.
All 3 of them were on in my house with my parents
I dont see Angela Rippon or Trevor McDonald here ....
I thought Peter Jennings was a Vulcan 🤦♂️
My dad was a Cronkite man. After that it was Brokaw.
Rather,after Cronkite retired.
Dan Rather and it was my parents’ house. Every. Damn. Night.
Grandparents? That would be Cronkite and whoever preceded him. My parents went with Jennings.
Dan Rather held me and family down for years.
We watched the local NBC news at 6 and Tom Brokaw at 6:30 every night. Mom would then watch Entertainment Tonight at 7. 30 years later I can still hear the intro music for that damn show in my head.
Usually Tom Brokaw to buy I always preferred Dan Rather.
Dana carveys impression of Tom Brokaw is always good
Dan Rather
Walter Kronkite.
Dan Rather! 100%
Should have seen Peter Jennings before the nose job, wheeww /s
Ours was a Dan Rather home.
