He was wearing it the night I saw them here in L. A. back in May. And that was just before the convictions were handed down. He talked about his uncle's death, but nothing about him wearing that shirt that day. He mentioned Jeff wearing Kareem's #33 that night. Which was appropriate because they were at a location that the Lakers played for decades.
So not to say our reasoning was the only reason for the 34, but just another layer or bonus.
Someone threw him a jersey in Nashville that was the same jersey and he put it on at the end of the show. I have not seen a picture of him in a concert since then without that jersey.

I was at LA too and he not only wore that jersey the last day he was with his uncle, he wore it at many of the 2014 tour dates
