OIAQP

I live in fear that if I was ever to take part in an illegal, violent insurrection, I might receive a harshly worded letter. *shudders*

PoconoBobobobo

To be fair, a lot of the little people who attacked the Capital actually did go to prison. But Paxton has been under indictment for most of a DECADE and been re-elected twice. He'll never see anything approaching justice, as usual for the rich and powerful.

neonoggie

They settled that for a few hundred thousand dollars and some community service I am TOTALLY sure he will serve

OIAQP

>To be fair, a lot of the little people who attacked the Capital actually did go to prison. True, I should have said "if I was ever to *orchestrate* an illegal, violent insurrection..." No consequences for the criminals in the executive suites.

AttitudeAndEffort2

To be fairer, the punishment for that is *supposed* to be death (per the Constitution).

Evil_phd

>To be fair, a lot of the little people who attacked the Capital actually did go to prison. I guess "shit rolls downhill" isn't just for businesses.

Brinksan51

Little people, big people, connected people, good people, bad people, you do not, absolutely do not, attack the Capital! End of story, especially at the behest of a f’n lunatic!

borg_6s

I read that with 'listen' at the beginning

Brinksan51

Just look at that mug…….right to the f’n moon!

captaincrunch00

I think they almost got 9 months combined in jail. Should have been 85 years each.

CGordini

Not a single person was charged and convicted to the full extent of the law. Not. One.

AllTheyEatIsLettuce

Paper cuts are a real thing that can really hurt you for a few minutes.

PhilosopherMagik

You would. It would read 7.5 to 10 years...

OurUrbanFarm

They would not be so nice to you.

Travelerdude

Well fucking do it already!!!

FartingInYourMilk

Yeah there’s too many “This *could* happen” or “This *might* happen. *MAKE* it happen.

illwill79

Let's go light a fire under Garland's weak ass

Psychprojection

Top men are on it. TOP. MEN.

PineTreeBanjo

Maybe we can submit feedback. Lord knows they've been useless enough with our taxes. https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/ I think you can complain about other agencies here.

Born_Sleep5216

You can't do that! That's arson! When we should be lighting the fire on Ted Cruz. It's his fault that he conspired the attack and not to mention letting that poor woman leave Texas because of a strict abortion ban.

illwill79

We can light many fires

stinky_wizzleteet

You could try, but hes the wettest paper bag in history

ResponsiblePurpleYam

You'd need a cattle prod too! He's Garland the Milktoast man!

PhilosopherMagik

Garland is not weak. He is the first AG to get Trump to court through strategy of coming at him everyway. You should give the man respect because Trump is almost 80 and has never seen the inside of a criminal court until this month.

SearchElsewhereKarma

Garland had to be compelled to act and had his hand forced by the sheer volume of evidence compiled by the Jan. 6 committee in the house. He sat on his hands for two fucking years and he is directly responsible for the fact that Trump is likely not being held accountable for most, if not all, of his obvious crimes he committed while he was president.

illwill79

Most of the shit trump is dealing with doesn't stem from the DOJ. I give respect where it's due.

basket_case_case

Last I heard only 1 case of four (not including the SA civil case) is from the DoJ. Garland is the kind of conservative who would happily have done nothing because doing something was unprecedented. He had nothing to do with anything happening.

Spam_Hand

I don't really enjoy hearing "this could happen" from someone named FartingInYourMilk. Please don't make that happen.

Wurm42

You really think the Texas state bar association is going to punish Ken Paxton after the state legislature and the FBI tried and failed?

Born_Sleep5216

They should! His words, his actions. And it's time for Ken Paxton to face swift justice for 2 reasons and more. First. He conspired with Trump in the plot to overturn the 2020 election The second one was that him and his cohorts passed an abortion ban, letting that poor woman and dozens of other women have to leave Texas and go somewhere else to be safe from the bounty hunters. Because who in the right mind wants to pay ten thousand dollars for an unacceptable amount of damages. The others were not fixing the Texas power grid as Texans faced extreme weather conditions and the rest of the agenda. Texans is really upset with the corruption led by Greg Abbott and his republican led government.

ResponsiblePurpleYam

Texas: "We punished Mr. Paxton by giving him a $200,000/year raise with an extra $75,000 cash bonus plus $75,000 in investments and an additional 90 days of vacation time. We think this will teach him a stern lesson!"

Later2theparty

Remember how long he was indicted for fraud?

hamsterfolly

Texas appeals court, Paxton could still appeal this (ugh)

Born_Sleep5216

It won't do him any good. He has been caught on tape, and we hope Texans will do the right thing by voting him and those Republicans in the Texas government out of office.

Born_Sleep5216

Exactly! Let's see how those Texas Republicans come to his aid now after they are the ones who acquitted him in the first place!

Scandals86

Came here to say exactly this 😆

PizzaWhole9323

This^

InsomniaticWanderer

"Man can be punished for doing crime, says court."

alien_from_Europa

So why no punishment included in the ruling?

[deleted]

Man can bribe the Judge to get away with the crime too

ExcellentSteadyGlue

Because that’s not what was ruled on, or what was ruled, or how it works, and the judge ultimately has no authority over what the state bar does or doesn’t decide because it’s a separate thing from the judiciary and us. (*some* states have official governmental channels for state bar assocs, most don’t) from the government entirely? What was it you expected from reading the article, which I assume was the first thing you tried to answer your question?

Slowmetheus

I'm glad it leaves it open

Zoidbergslicense

It is astounding that this guy still holds public office.

Broken-Digital-Clock

Maybe him banning porn in Texas will be enough to piss people off and oust him.

Born_Sleep5216

That or arresting him.

throwaway69662

PH is a casualty that I don’t care about, but x Ham ? Aw shit man. Now I’m forced to VPN

R_Daneel_Olivaww

tired of hearing news articles every day saying so and so can or may be punished. tell us when it really happens

PhaedrusOne

He makes me embarrassed to be from Texas

RickyWinterborn-1080

But he won't. At this point I think he is a red herring for us to chase after while Abbott and the rest of his criminal shithead friends do everything they can to prevent Democratic votes from being counted.

timatlast

Just look at the four accusations he leveled against other states. That’s usually a good sign for the laws that he’s the one breaking. -The deciding votes in these battleground states were cast by unregistered voters -Votes were switched because of a glitch in the voting machines -State workers meddled in the election -'Illegal' votes had been cast How was he so sure of fraud? Because he’s the one committing it.

BlotchComics

Can but won't... just like all of the other crimes he's never had to answer for.

deekaydubya

“Can” well cool, so nothing will happen

Zaphodnotbeeblebrox

Yeah.. they said he “can” be punished but he won’t get punished for anything.

Jikemo1020

He can be punished but he won’t be punished. That’s how it works in Texas. Now, if he was a liberal, his career would be over.

24Ours

As a Texan....I hate that people in other states know our attorney general. I don't know who the attorney general is in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, or New Mexico....the states that neighbor Texas. Why is ours an asshole that EVERYONE knows?

lebowtzu

I think he’s building a very specific kind of political capital for a run for governor or senate or president. The MAGA type of capital. I’m imagining a similar trajectory to Desantis and his failure of a presidential bid. But he (Desantis) certainly successfully keeps his name in “the papers.”

Plow_King

don't feel that bad. i live in MO and our former AG and Governor, John Ashcroft, was W's AG for awhile, so he was fairly famous. And his son is now our AG as well, so that's a lineage we still deal with.

Jackinapox

can be, could be, might be, may be, possib-ly.

BrightMarvel10

Spoiler alert: he won't be.

JD_tubeguy

They need to disbar this slimy fuck he's had too many lives already!

epochellipse

That crooked heap of shit has never been punished for anything but that doesn’t mean nobody should try.

Msmdpa

Let the state bar discipline him THEN let him appeal.

keninsd

They are just as corrupt as the court as they are controlled by the TX supreme court!

CallMeLazarus23

I guess I know what it feels like to be edged by the Legal System now

atomsmasher66

‘Can’ and ‘will’ are two very different things.

black_flag_4ever

Can't believe this comic book villain level scumbag still has his job.

Upbeat-Willingness40

I can, he’s in Texas afterall.

blurry850

How is this asshole still in office?

BiffSlick

Fuckin’ Texas. What do you expect?

baconeggsandwich25

>The lone Republican judge on the panel dissented, arguing that Paxton's office does grant him immunity as an agent of the state. Funny how the "party of law and order" always tries to argue that they have immunity for the crimes they commit. Like the saying goes, the core of conservative thought is that "There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

Good_Juggernaut_3155

Paxton was fucking his staffer and his wife learned ALL about it. At the time I was hoping she’d cut his dick off when he went to sleep. That would have been justice, but no, nothing happened.

ProgressBackground95

Don't worry, y'all will vote him back in 🤣

usernicktaken

Good! Now nail that treasonous fucker.

Altruistic_Pear7646

Why do they always argue immunity for anything they do in office? Just sets a bad precident for whoever holds office next.

malepitt

ANGH, Tex

TheAngriestChair

How? Who's going to do it?

Do-you-see-it-now

Good. Someone get a running start and kick him in the balls now. Metaphorically speaking.

Available_Resist7891

This guys is the worst. He needs to be gone asap

worstatit

As a Pennsylvania resident whose vote he tried to invalidate, I'll say Paxton is a despicable cretin, so is every Texan that votes for him.

Yelloeisok

I feel the same way about all of the PA house scum bags that voted to void their own constituents votes too. Daniel Meuser (R-P.A.), Yes Scott Perry (R-P.A.), Yes Lloyd Smucker (R-P.A.), Yes Fred Keller (R-P.A.), Yes John Joyce (R-P.A.), Yes Guy Reschenthaler (R-P.A.), Yes Glenn Thompson, (R-P.A.), Yes Mike Kelly (R-P.A.), Yes

worstatit

Indeed. I'm going to enjoy voting against Kelly into the future, though it'll do little good.

ChanceryTheRapper

Honestly, given how things run in Texas, I'm not entirely convinced he can be.

Alleandros

But he won't.

whoralator

No punishment is enough for this fascist.

lastburn138

SHOULD be punished

DamonFields

To be a Republican criminal in Texas. No worries ever.

Lost_Minds_Think

Abuse of office, bribes, witness intimidation, but nothing stuck. But now you want us to believe he’ll get in trouble for filing a lawsuit?

Someoneoverthere42

He *won’t* be, but he *can* be……

pplatt69

We've never had such crap go on in America. Not to this extreme and so blatantly or had so many idiots so arrogantly sure that their emotional landscape and preferences excuse such outlandish behavior. So the legal system has been puzzling through it all. It's been annoyingly slow, but with reason.

Vanillas_Guy

"This thing could happen...but will it? Stay tuned to find out. While you're here, check out these ads!"- modern journalism in a nutshell.

Crans10

Let me try this again. So now that we know he can. May he please be punished for attempting to overturn the 2020 election?

adkRaine13

Can he? I mean, he hasn’t so far, FFS!

spamulah

Nobody can touch that man. For some damn reason No matter what he does….

chowderbags

I eagerly await the slap on the wrist he'll get a decade from now after he's exhausted every avenue of appeal and probably tries to arrest or investigate everyone responsible for dolling out even the slightest hint of reprimand.

[deleted]

The guy is like the Teflon dong.

pinacolada_22

He has a pact with the devil, this man will live 200 years and never see consequences of his actions. Idk how Texans keep voting for this AH

CommunicationHot7822

But he won’t be I’m sure.

TheIronMatron

I’m beginning to doubt any sentence that starts with “Ken Paxton can be punished”.

Dumbledoorbellditty

God, there is a long fucking list of crimes Ken Paxton deserves to be punished does. Yet my fellow Texans constantly vote in dirtbags like him and Abbot, Mr. Pisspants himself.

jmaneater

Isn't he in charge of the punishment department?

CluelessSage

Oh hell yea let the tsunami of charges against this criminal begin!

magillicuti

Grab him by the wallet. That’s the only thing these kids understand

PineTreeBanjo

If he isn't then they will try again and we will fail as a nation.

Low-Helicopter-2696

Dude looks like a villain from an 80's movie. Like a poor man's John Lithgow.

updatesforassholes

Ken Paxton is turning into Teflon Don II

carlthedogboy

The fucker’s never been held accountable yet, has he?!

retzlaja

Enjoyed this news with my morning coffee.

VGAddict

The DOJ needs to RICO the entire Texas Republican Party.

joshtalife

I wish the legal system moved faster sometimes.

ATribeOfAfricans

Ken that was very naughty! Bad! Don't you even THINK of you it again you hear me!?

DaveP0953

...but will he be punished? I have serious doubts.

redheadedandbold

Yes! Yes! Yes!

eskieski

“can be”…. should be

MarquisDeMiami

Supreme Court already says No

Garth_Brooks_Sexdoll

Yeah but he won’t be

SoundSageWisdom

Most excellent

SqueezeMyLemmons

Can he? Yes Will he? No way in hell (unfortunately)

[deleted]

shame this mofo, bring back public shaming!

IdahoMTman222

He can be but will he?

Aggressive-Will-4500

Somebody tag me when this asshole actually sees any consequences...

Outrageous-Divide472

Sadly, you will never be tagged.

shouldazagged

He did a hell of a job playing the cowboy zombie in Fallout.

Friendly-Company-771

How about disbaring him?

Haunting_Pass_3439

Can. Won’t.

Outrageous-Divide472

Lots of people can be punished for that, but they won’t be.

Temprawr

It’s like the end of Hunt for the Red October “You’re dodging another subpoena?”

Sideshow_Bob_Ross

Well.... We're waiting.

postman925

Don't worry, he won't be. His cronies in state government will protect him.

FearsomeSnacker

The rules apply to all, so enforce the rules on all or don't have the rules. DO SOMETHING RIGHT FOR A CHANGE!!!

rukh999

Nice to see we're still finding that doing illegal things is illegal still, so far.

_Piratical_

But let me guess, he’d have to prosecute himself? Amirite?

Noctornola

So he won't be, is what the court is also saying.

SnootSnootBasilisk

It's funny you think Ken will face consequences

TNGreruns4ever

Seems "can" is not the same as "will", much less "has been", when it comes to the verb "punish" with respect to Republicans.

CroatianSensation79

Not holding my breath. As long as he has assholes looking out for him and looking the other way, he’ll continue to get away with this shit. One of many repulsive scumbags in the GOP.

MirroredCholoate

That's cool I guess. Doesn't mean anything, though, unless a lesson is taught.

Invented_Chicken

Is he playing the jawharp?

ShutUpTodd

can't punish him if he bolts before he's served the subpoena.

InternationalBand494

If only there was any possibility of anything happening to him.

GoodieLikesChicken

Texas has the death penalty, correct?

cohbrbst71

Then flicking punish him already

TrappedInOhio

A lot of things can happen that never will, I guess.

AJ_Grey

He'll have to go to bed early without eating his vegetables but he can still have ice cream for being a good stooge.

AmongRorschach

Yeah no shit he can

PhilosopherMagik

Come at him sideways already, send a Jedi if you have to

vagabending

We’ve been hearing this song for a long time but not seeing any punishment. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Lopsided_Pickle1795

Good. Lock that crazie up now!

Barnowl-hoot

Someone please hold him responsible for the crimes he committed, as a Texan, he is corrupt and needs to go

valeyard89

Can be? Sure Will be? Nope.

jayclaw97

About time this guy got some punishment for any of his crimes.

onlyusemefeets

How do you Americans not see that these people look evil. Why are they in power and not snorting fentanyl on a corner?

decay21450

"Just a day earlier, a panel on the same Texas court found that Trump associate Sidney Powell could not be punished for his election claims." Pronouns?

mynamejulian

For a decade, Ken Paxton has more felonies waiting to be charged that would put any of us in forever jail if we committed such crimes. This is fascism at work.

rounder55

For his last punishment, Paxton struck a deal regarding his indictments that came without a trial for 8 years. If convicted he faced decades. His punishment was an agreement to do 100 hours community service, pay a 6 figure fine, and take a course on legal ethics (as if that will unfuck an unethical DA). AND he did not have to admit guilt. I'm sure they'll really punish Paxton again

dmp2you

Depends on who's doling out the punishment. If it has to do with anybody in Texas, for get about it .. We all saw what happened with his impeachment, 9 yr old fraud case, Sidney Powell trying to steal the election ..

Haunting-Ad788

Put this fuck in prison already.

23jknm

Thousands of people should be in prison for it but most will get away with it because they have more money than most of us ever will so they can do what they want apparently.

voyagerdoge

The journalists thinks Sidney Powell is a man.

disasterbot

Did he stroke out in this pic?

mealsonw

This IS 2024, IF THIS IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE THEN WHY HAVEN'T THE POWERS THAT BE PROSECUTED THIS INTERLOPER.? WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR SANTA CLAUS & CHRISTMAS?

Dentiddx

He can be punished, so... what about everyone else????

FancyStranger2371

But will it happen with a GOP controlled Congress? Nope.

Formaldehyde007

By whom? Fellow far-right Texans? Even if he is convicted, the Supreme Court will likely rule against it.

kdeweb24

He can. He won’t. But, he can. I hate it here.
