"1899–1900 they finished in last place and were relegated back to the Second Division, having won only 4 matches, all at home, against Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn and Aston Villa." There ya go mate
They also still play in (I think) the 9th division. And they have been to Wembley twice in the last 20 years. They also have recently seem to have gotten a good young supporters group who keep it active.
We last won a trophy in 1995 and have since been battling relegation twice. From 1878-1990s we were one of the big clubs in England and winning trophies, in the 90s we first battled relegation from the Premier League as most of our title winning squad left following the European ban on English clubs, eventually David Moyes hauled us into the top half of the table and fighting for Europe from 2004-2016, we were really poor during this time though. In 2016 Iranian billionaire Farhad Moshiri bought the club, spent 500M on awful players, broke FFP and now we're stuck unable to spend money and with and awful squad. If we get relegated this season it will be the first time since the 1950s that we've played outside the top division
Everton had a fantastic team during the 2000s. The likes of Wayne Rooney, Tim Howard, Tim Cahill, Mikel Arteta and Steven Pienaar were up there with some of the PL's most in-form players at the time
Bad club direction and poor recruitment have underlined Everton's trajectory which has been downhill for a while. The only shining lights have been Pickford and a semblance of identity with Coleman sticking around
Sheesh 🙄 lighten up , it’s banter , those tables are irrelevant, and anybody making claims about their club based on them comes across as needy …..😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Doesn’t show the history , it shows a selected history …where does it show how long/years teams have been in the top division..?? ..the premier league one has some basis for comparative data since 6 of the top 7 teams have a similar number of games played …
Well Arsenal haven't been relegated since 1919 (first stint being 1904-1913) so the seasons Liverpool were out of the First Division must have been equal to the time Arsenal were out (Liverpool first made it to the First Division in 1894, 10 years prior to Arsenal's debut, but were a yo-yo team in the 1890s, then spent half the 1950s in the Second Division).
I remember feeling a bit annoyed that Chelsea were two points away from overtaking us in the all time PL table. They've been shite since then which is quite nice
Unfortunately, I don't think most current PL fans around the world realise how big the likes of Everton, Villa and even Sunderland are/have been!
At this point, a billionaire can buy any PL club, and if it's run well enough, they'll look like one of the biggest clubs in the league to new fans.
I mean it has been 25-30 years, if not longer, since some of those teams contested for titles
It isn’t just new fans anymore - they’ve just faded as big clubs over the decades
I think people define "massive" differently, unfortunately. I know Villa has a 29,000 people waiting list for season tickets with a 43,000 cap stadium (to be increased to c.51,000 within the coming years). Home games are always packed out, and we also have some of the wealthiest owners in the league. I know bias might come into play, but to me that surely is indicative to the size of the club. Although I admit our success in recent decades is not up to scratch when considering other people's definition of club size
Times change and thus, things change, new big clubs are born from smaller ones and other big ones disappear into obscurity, this is football life, only a couple of clubs manage to withstand the test of time and remain big but nothing is guaranteed as long as football continues to be played.
Only because of tv money coming in at a certain time which helped some clubs and killed others.
The top 4 as of right now realistically wont change barring huge investment from nation states again. The CL and tv money guarantee places at the top to stay how they are barring that
So more accurate this *was* football life
Partly it's also the side-effect of the new money clubs. Chelsea and City spending was meant to disrupt the Top 4 big boys, but what it also did was push the likely challengers like Everton and Villa further down the pecking order.
Now you're right, their route to the top is getting bought out by the deepest pockets.
Kinda surprised there's only been 65 top flight clubs...especially when there's 50 in the PL era.
So if I'm reading this correctly, there are only 15 clubs that have been in the top flight but not returned in the PL era?
Really not that many, Serie A has had 68 teams since the 1929/30 season, the first with a single group.
Ligue 1 is even better, it started in 32/33 and had 76 clubs so far.
There were 59 clubs that were in the First Division, and 65 clubs in top flight history. So 6 clubs were never in the First Division but made it to the Premier League.

I’m surprised at how low Crystal Palace is considering they’ve been decent for a while now, but I guess it shows that a decade or so is a drop in the bucket
I mean I’m terms of PL we are gonna get out of the drop zone and hit 17th on the all time list fairly soon. But in terms of the other 2 tables, we have spent so many years in obscurity. Before promotion in 2013 we had never stayed up in the PL. we had a few big years in the old division one, came 2nd in the early 90s but thanks to Liverpool’s scummy behaviour missed out on our trip to Europe. This period now is undoubtedly the best in our history and it’s not close.
Interesting to see Blackpool at 31 in the combined table with only one PL season. Matthews and Mortensen effect? I'm not a supporter, but with Holloway, they punched above their weight for a spell and almost kept them up.
I don’t think it’s realistic for city to top this table this century.
If 1-5 all get relegated this year (and don’t come back), it would take 15 centurion seasons to top the table.
If city average 20 points/season over all of the 1-5, it would take 80 years to reach Liverpool, which would happen in the year 2103.
It’s a huge feat to be where they are in the first place
Look at Man Utd. They were 800 points behind Liverpool before the Premier League started. After 20 years of dominating the league under Fergie, they're still 536 behind.
Whatever happened to them?
Derby, Huddersfield, Grimsby!!
Fucking Grimsby FFS!!
Saddest though must be Notts County and Oldham both out of the top 4 leagues. 🙄
Hopefully Notts is on their way back to League 2 this year. It's a big shame that only one of Wrexham or Notts can get the automatic promotion from the National League back to League 2 as both clubs deserve it with their 100+ points performance this year.
Horrible to look at this table because im always reminded that we’re only really going to fall down. Cant see us being a top flight club for a long time now, and most of the clubs just below us in that table either are prem now, or probably will be at some point soon
Seeing that many games/points/goals, reminds me of this David Mitchell clip: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MusyO7J2inM&pp=ygUpRGF2aWQgbWl0Y2hlbGwgZm9vdGJhbGwgZm9vdGJhbGwgZm9vdGJhbGw%3D
Honestly to say we’ve been out of the Prem for 23 years, I’m quite surprised we’re still that high up on the prem table and the all time combined table.
Although I do think we’ve spent more time in league 1 now since 2000 than the prem overall… sad times.
Edit - Nevermind, another 2 years and we will have… cheers Chansiri.
>They're crazy bastards.

Wow, no kidding.
As a Bournemouth fan it's still quite crazy to see us in lists like this, especially making giants like Bradford Park Avenue eat our dust.
Our goals against column is pretty hilarious.

Bigup Glossop North End
Anyone know the history? What year did they play in the 1st division?

Thanks!
Everton forever immortalised as the Kings of Division One.
Next they can do it to League 1
We will be there.
Wtf is wrong with Everton? I’ve only been into soccer for about a year or so and didn’t realize Everton was such a powerhouse before.
We last won a trophy in 1995 and have since been battling relegation twice. Kinda funny we are 7th on division one
It's good because it shows that City does not just have recent history. Sucks that its mostly oil history in recent years though
Aye, football is a funny game overall
Money is money.
I love that you're even ahead of Chelsea for 2/3. Shows how much they bought
Only club with more than 7000 total points you’ll never sing that
Arsenal will definitely join the 7000 tp club next season.
Uhh... you'll have to wait to sing that!
_Gang gets relegated with 29 points_
Remember the two week window last season when for some reason that was thought of as a realistic possibility
The best of times, the worst of times
Thank you for outing yourself as a buffoon
I wasn’t saying I agreed with it
Now I have outed myself as an illiterate twat
I’m outing myself as an enjoyer of this thread.
Took the L like a champ
I think you did that when you made your account with that name
lmao 😂, send update when United play their 357 games in hand 🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊
Isn't that Man Utd's issue it's not games in hand it's just they played 357 lesser games simple when are they gonna catch up on those
Sheesh 🙄 lighten up , it’s banter , those tables are irrelevant, and anybody making claims about their club based on them comes across as needy …..😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
It shows the history of clubs. It's impressive to be in the top division all this time and consistently get points.
Doesn’t show the history , it shows a selected history …where does it show how long/years teams have been in the top division..?? ..the premier league one has some basis for comparative data since 6 of the top 7 teams have a similar number of games played …
> where does it show how long/years teams have been in the top division.. It's implicitly shown through the number of matches played.
how many years then? , no googling 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
Interesting that Liverpool and us have played the exact same number of top flight games
we're fuckin' massive
Girthy reds
I like you both the best, out of English top flight, so there is that
Well Arsenal haven't been relegated since 1919 (first stint being 1904-1913) so the seasons Liverpool were out of the First Division must have been equal to the time Arsenal were out (Liverpool first made it to the First Division in 1894, 10 years prior to Arsenal's debut, but were a yo-yo team in the 1890s, then spent half the 1950s in the Second Division).
Bournemouth and Brighton nearly going past our PL total 💀
I remember feeling a bit annoyed that Chelsea were two points away from overtaking us in the all time PL table. They've been shite since then which is quite nice
as far as I’m aware you can’t get 1700 points in one season
PL all time sorry
Was it 30 or 40 years ago?
Sorry I should have clarified, the premier league all time table.
What? Is there a joke I'm missing? They're way below us in the all time points table
I assume it’s ‘Premier League’ not just first division?
Should have been more clear, talking about the PL all time table
Oh, right on
[удалено]
A year ago you were about two points away from overtaking us in the PL all time table.
Unfortunately, I don't think most current PL fans around the world realise how big the likes of Everton, Villa and even Sunderland are/have been! At this point, a billionaire can buy any PL club, and if it's run well enough, they'll look like one of the biggest clubs in the league to new fans.

Just because they’re not competing for titles doesn’t mean they’re not still massive clubs.
It certainly means they’ve declined in size comparative to other clubs
I think people define "massive" differently, unfortunately. I know Villa has a 29,000 people waiting list for season tickets with a 43,000 cap stadium (to be increased to c.51,000 within the coming years). What’s the difference between the three?
Table 1 is Premier League plus the old Division One. Table 2 is old Division One only and Table 3 is Premier League only.
Ahhhhhh ok thanks 🙏

Middlesbrough doing really well on the all time premier league when you consider all the teams above have more matches and in most cases many more
We were mid table for years years. I think we finished 11th for like 4 years in a row, then 7th then slowly got shite
Bolton still 13th while they have been out of the prem for more than 10 years is kinda impressive
West Brom surprisingly high up
I feel like they were almost always in the Premier League
Weren’t always in the prem but they’re a founding member of the football league and historically always a big club
First time was 2004 I think?
Ah I see, interesting!
City being the 7th all time First Division club and ppl be like no history...
Give Pep and his henchman robot a few more years….

Note that prior to 1981 you got 2 points for a win.
That table is calculated after the 3 point rule entirely.
Whatever happened to them? Derby, Huddersfield, Grimsby!! Fucking Grimsby FFS!! Saddest though must be Notts County and Oldham both out of the top 4 leagues. 🙄

Only 6 teams in the history of the Premier League never got relegated, and now two of them are facing high chances of doing so.
Not quite, Brentford and Brighton have also never been relegated from the PL (but they weren't in it when it formed)
Consistency!

Why is there even a rivalry between West Ham and Millwall? The difference between the clubs are huge.
Proximity and hooliganism. Fans of both sides have been killed due to the violent nature of the rivalry. Even that riot back in 2009 was pretty scary.
Size of clubs matters little when the rivalry is historical. Plus Millwall will just hate on anyone and everyone. They're crazy bastards.
>They're crazy bastards. Hooligans
Actually one of the oldest , West Ham then called Thames Ironside and Millwall athletic were made up of Dockers on either side of the river
Sad to see that prestigious clubs like Everton are going down and glad to see that Aston Villa is coming back to where they belong.
No one belongs anywhere, positions in a league are earned over a season.
It ain’t nailed on yet….,

The modern Arsenal fan who says stuff like theclub was nothing before Wenger need to see this table fam.
what arsenal fan would ever say that
As an MK season ticket holder down in League 1 it's bonkers that we've played Bolton, Derby and Sheff Wed this season (and Sunderland last year).
Not in League 1 for long ;-)
How long until Leeds start having negative GD?
When were Villa most successful? 80's?
Most successful? The 90's... The 1890's. Won 5 out of 10 championships that decade. And then the European cup in early 1980s.
When were Villa most successful? 80's?
