Very fair - I could've left it as "divided we are" but the rhetoric has certainly become very divisive over the last decade. Perhaps exacerbated by social media so it feels worse.
He's gonna get invited to a family gathering, he'll try lechon and his friends will teach him some useful phrases in Tagalog to impress the titos and titas with, it's gonna be great.
Filipinos love when you speak their language! My wife is from Mindanao, and when we got married two weeks ago she taught me some phrases to say during my welcome speech. They loved it when I told them to eat and drink until they're content in bisayan, they loved it so much. Her family is awesome, and Filipino hospitality is real.
I work with some Filipino women who bring in leftovers from what they cook and go on vacation back home and bring us back goodies. Makes me want to to be Filipino too 😪
My family can get fairly dark skinned sometimes (Greek and Armenian I wish I had the dark skin like them) but one time my little brother, probably age 6-7 at the time, was pretty dark at the time and was being bathed when he told my mom “look I’m darker than the rubber band! If I learn Spanish I’ll be Mexican!” Funniest shit to hear in the world right!!!! Well fast forward to this kid being in Highschool he went nearly the whole 4 years on the soccer team with all the Mexicans thinking he was Mexican! He was literally one of the two white kids on the team 😂😂
The kid isn't Filipino, everyone in his class is.
My kid isn't Chinese, everyone in his class is and he wants to be Chinese too.
Mom being white isn't particularly relevant here.

As a Filipino, I appoint myself as a speaker for my people when I say that we accept her.
It's coming!
i heard you're a cootie
Mom handled it so well
"I wanted to be" is so sweet and kinda heartbreaking when you think about how divisive things have become.
Have become? The past was… not good when it came to race relations

Well the parents are the one teaching it. There’s no reason for this kid to feel this way unless they’ve been told to.
Hence the heartbreak
Died at the "A jalapeño is a cootie"
Same here lol this whole interaction was adorable but that one had me busting up at the end.

Filipinos and Canadians are legit the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.
Unless you're a relative and have some kind of physical flaw. Then they're... Ahem, "friendly" Don't ask how I know
Unless you're indigenous

The goodies are called Pasalubong.
Ngl Filipinos are the most chill people I know.
Filipinos would definitely accept this kid.
Theres something so wholesome and beautiful about that little moment. Kids got her heart in the right place. Good kid
As a Filipino, I bestow her the rights to call herself Filipino. Also, goddamn most of her classmates is Filipino there?
Lunch must be banging at her school
If your heart tells you you are Filipino, then by god you ARE Filipino. 🙏🏽
So much respect for her keeping the camera off her kid. Disgusting all these parents humiliating their kids online.
She tasted their mom's cooking and wanted to be Filipino
As a dad in a place where my kids have been singled out for being different.. this hits hard.
Same
Based mom
No, no you don't
