100% this. I scratched my cornea a few years ago and it never healed properly. I've now got something called Corneal erosion syndrome which fucking hurts. All these eye pokes the fighters keep getting, do much more damage than they think.
Medical advancements are coming along to save eyesight issues like this but the results and how it looks afterwards is no bueno.

Had something similar happen to me, my infant daughter gouged my eye pretty bad. Never healed right, a little pocket of my cornea would randomly detach from my eye and I would be effectively blind and in pain for a week straight off and on over the course of 2 years. Doctors called it a "Recurrent Corneal Erosion". The solution was to grind the entire corneal surface away so it grows back within 6 months from a clean slate. Solved the issue.
I also should be more careful when I play with my cat. Could end badly quickly for the eyes.
